Steve, you are far too modest. This song is amazing and I’ve enjoyed it for years and years since I bought this vinyl record ages ago. The harmony is mind-boggling and Randy gives me goosebumps every time.
Thanks Steve, you know i’ve been waiting for this ! This track always brings tears during the string section and goosebumps when Randy resumes signing with you on lead. This is such a soulful and heartfelt number. And so personal too with those changes within the song. Randy and Richie were definitely precious gems for this LP. When i first listened to it in 1978 felt to me this track meant you had cut the cord with the band.
Such a beautiful song you wrote Steve, wonderfully sung by Randy Crawford! I absolutely love build-up of the string part, it leads to a gorgeous climax with Randy "doing an Aretha"!
Steve, this is a mini masterpiece. As powerful now as it ever was. I must say that at the time, the fusion of the European with the American tradition was so striking. It's beautiful.
This song has always been one of my favorites. I love Randy's singing! That chord change after the string section, before the vocals start is brilliant!
Steve, for me this is one of your very best compositions. I could never understand why you didn't release it as a single. In it, you cross the bridge from progressive to soul and blend them together so eloquently and make the inspired choice of having Randy Crawford sing it in her own inimitable way. It never got the airplay it so richly deserved. Thank you so much for the lifetime of great music you have given us. Tony, Mike and Phil were foolish to let a great composer and musician slip through their fingers but their loss was our gain.
This is a beautiful song! One day you should try live with Amanda, for example. It deserves a live performance. In fact, Randy Crawford is unbelievable! She is fantastic!
Steve i,ve allways listen your works since voyage of the acolyte, and as a Genesis adicted ... this particular song means so mutch in my life now that i,m a 60teen...thank you!
Bought the album when it was released, age 13, and still listen to it now! Not met anyone yet who isn't charmed by the trio of songs opening the album, especially Carry-on up the Vicarage and Racing in A! Then Randy and Richie singing human songs that people can relate to. The coolest prog album ever. Many thanks for these short visa Steve.
You`ve got away with it dear Steve, you made me smile again on this one (sublimely 1:50), always a favorite track from a favorite album, thank you very much.
Beautiful song Steve and another from my all time fave album of yours still to this day! Randy's wonderful voice combined with the orchestration makes for a fantastic track. I also think Tom Fowler's bass sound on here is superb. As you wrote on the albums sleeve notes re: the title track, 'best played with as much volume as your system can muster!' I think the same can be said of Hoping Love Will Last!
Been in love with this song for as long as i can remember.Randy's wonderful voice and those gorgeous strings just mezmerizing. Loving the insights into your work Steve. Roll on Scunthorpe in November..never thought i'd here myself say that!
I was very impressed with this album when it came out and I was only a kid. I always wondered why recognition for this album seemed so subtle. I enthusiastically always promoted Steve and Peter Gabriel in their early solo careers. Like a lone wolf, I cut my own path and that's probably why I'm a big fan.
Can anyone remember those soulful pop tunes as the credits ran on the 90s Disney films? ‘Love will last’ has that atmosphere. Decades before it’s time.
Damn, Steve! I feel like crying now. I'm happy when I'm listening to your upbeat songs. I stopped listening to love songs many years ago because they just remind me of relationships of the past that didn't last. I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy it though. Cheers!
I would love to know a bit more about how Steve managed to get such talents as Randy, Richie and the Kansas guys involved in an English prog rock guitarists solo album. I mean you can't easily play them The Lamb Lies Down or Foxtrot and say ... Come and sing on this? These are inspired choices by Steve but how did they become a reality?
I would too. I remember him saying in an interview somewhere that all the Genesis guys were really into Richie Havens and Steve got to meet him and invite him to dinner. That's apparently how he got Richie on the record.
@Dan C true ...I only know a couple of Kansas songs and I know they are considered "prog" by some. I think you are probably right that they would be aware of genesis.
Look at the joy in Steve's face as he talks about this, two of my all time fave people made a beautiful track which never fails to move me, he knows this is a masterpiece as do we..roll on November
I remember buying this cd and seeing Randy Crawford's name on it and thinking hmmm not sure about that with my prog rock snobbish attitude then listening to the track and was so impressed defo one of the stand out songs on the album
I Love the sang and yes very moving as your creation has blessed my ears with, and continues. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience with your creation
Love that instrumental section, the solo line followed by the lush chords, with the key changes. Very influential on me as a guitarist, and musician. Holy Crap, you are playing in Auckland? I'm in NZ... If this comes true and travel is possible again, I'm going!
One of my favourite songs from the very first time I listened to Please Don't Touch, a mix of soul and epic changes. I thought Steve was starting to change his usual style!
That album, Please Don't Touch, demonstrated how versatile a writer and musician Steve Hackett is, with songs in many styles, none of which is a Genesis clone.
Sometime after the release of Please Don't Touch I heard Randy Crawford on the radio with Some Day I'll Fly Away and my first thought was that it was another song by Steve! Arguably the best track on the album, on a par with the magnificent Icarus Ascending.
Please Don't Touch is such a wonderful and varied debut ( I mean, I know Voyage came first but this is somehow the first real "statement"). I wish (or hope to find) there were more Hackett albums that were such a potpourri of ideas and approaches.
STEVE HACKETT NICEST GUY IN THE WORLD!
Beautiful song Steve, always liked this song, Randy Crawford’s vocals are amazing.
Steve, you are far too modest. This song is amazing and I’ve enjoyed it for years and years since I bought this vinyl record ages ago. The harmony is mind-boggling and Randy gives me goosebumps every time.
Who is thumb down?
Helped me nurse a broken heart at the age of 16...
I can quite imagine. Hope things went well for you in one way or another.
Steve, please do "How Can I?"!! One of your BEST songs and the duet with Richie Havens was incomparable!! TY Steve.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. Hackett is genius.
I absolutely love this song! Thanks, Steve!
Thanks Steve, you know i’ve been waiting for this ! This track always brings tears during the string section and goosebumps when Randy resumes signing with you on lead. This song has one of my all time favorite intros. The resolution of the sustained note at 10 secs in is emotional bliss and sets up the mood so well.
This is such an incredible song, it should be a standard. Definitely on par with anything the boys from Genesis did in terms melody and composition.
What a beautiful song!!
This song is simply wonderful, and so moving.
such an soulfilled voice she has...dear Randy Crawford..and lets hope love may always last..
Achingly beautiful, every time. Please Don't Touch is loaded with classics, likely my favorite LP by anyone, ever.
Beautiful song, brings me some relax and peace after another crazy violent night in L.A, peace and love to everyone
My favourite guitarist : always giving credit to fellow musicians , always a gentleman .
This song got me through some tough times as a teenager. Beautiful soulful song. Randy's vocals...(sigh)
That smile when Randy Crawford starts singing again is like mine at the same point, from more than fourty years. Such a great song.
This song has always been one of my favorites. I love Randy's singing! That chord change after the string section, before the vocals start is brilliant!
Love this song, always cry then i listen to it, really dont know why. emotional. Strong performance by Randy.
Beautiful song. What I love is that connection with your prog with Randys gorgeous soulful voice
Beautiful song , it just all works so well . Great vocals , goosebump time again. Class 👍🏻🙏🏻

Randy Crawford has the most amazing voice. It really sends shivers down my spine. Just Wow!!

Absolutely love this track

Used to play this track over and over which wasn't easy in the days of vinyl! Loved the composition and her voice. It's wonderful.
A touch of PROG SOUL...!!❤🎶❤
Working with Randy was very brave of you. Thank you.
Can you talk about "How can I" (with Richie Havens) next time?
he does,mate
Inspired choice by Steve to use Randy Crawford on this wonderful song .
Thank you Steve for this great song! One of my favorite songs...forever
It's such a beautiful song that I have turned to many times over the decades.
Steve i,ve allways listen your works since voyage of the acolyte, and as a Genesis adicted ... this particular song means so mutch in my life now that i,m a 60teen...thank you!
As fantastic a piece of music now as it ever was. Thank you Steve (and all involved)!
One of my Desert Island Songs, for sure! Those chords, Randy’s fabulous vocal...Heaven💜 Thanks for this🥰
P.S. Always wondered if Kelly Clarkson couldn’t sing this well...
If i had to pick 3 of my favorite Hackett albums, this would be one of them and it's almost 50 years old..wow..how time sure flies.
Bought the album when it was released, age 13, and still listen to it now! Not met anyone yet who isn't charmed by the trio of songs opening the album, especially Carry-on up the Vicarage and Racing in A! Then Randy and Richie singing human songs that people can relate to. Love this song ...amazing!
Thanks Steve
still one of my all time favourite love songs, still played regularly on my playlist, kinda wished you could have done a whole album with Randy. x
love the vocals i actually love ALL the vocalists you've used thru the years including YOUR OWN VOCALS
Masterpiece... wonderful music, wonderful guitar, wonderful voice... :-)
Love this song. My Dad had Randy Crawford lps and we connected on the crusaders. I became a jazz fan a soul fan and a prog fan.
I cried my guts out when I saw genesis in Madison Square garden around 77 sitting in the second row.We love you steve.🌞
You`ve got away with it dear Steve, you made me smile again on this one (sublimely 1:50), always a favorite track from a favorite album, thank you very much.

Dear Steve, i think “hoping love..” one of best love songs of ever.
I saw you in concert in Mestre ( Venice Italy) in 1978. Great concert!!!
Beautiful ,and beautifully crafted song, perfect singer for the song.
Loooove that song. A perfect combination and meeting of prog and soul. Would have loved to hear more about it Steve!! Don't be shy.
❤❤❤love so much to see Steve’s smile always on the music 🎵
Been in love with this song for as long as i can remember.Randy's wonderful voice and those gorgeous strings just mezmerizing. Loving the insights into your work Steve. Roll on Scunthorpe in November..never thought i'd here myself say that!
Yeah, that's a masterpiece of songwriting and singing.
Is that an Emotiva speaker on the shelf. But what a beautiful song and beautiful album. Cured is also one of my favorites. That you Mr. Hackett!
Hi Steve! I just want to hear this remarkable song on a december night. Thank you! Merry Christmas from a small city in Province of Québec / Canada.
One of the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Wonderful wonderful singer Randy ❤️❤️❤️ love her voice
Incredible song and should have been a massive hit single. Thanks maestro
So glad love has lasted for you and Jo, Steve, and nice that you are proud of it sufficiently to mention it. ❤
Can anyone remember those soulful pop tunes as the credits ran on the 90s Disney films? ‘Love will last’ has that atmosphere. Decades before it’s time.

Wouldn't it be as simple as paying them? They are professional singers, he paid them to sing his songs.
Offer to pay and people will play.
@Dan C true ...I only know a couple of Kansas songs and I know they are considered "prog" by some. I think you are probably right that they would be aware of genesis.
@@davidrobertson3633 could be.. .I guess I hope it was based on a more artistic basis than just booked as a session singer.
Once again, great song ! Very touching and what a nice thing to say about Jo. Wish I could meet you both. ! Stay well and all the best .........
Where on this track is Maria Bonvino, guest soprano, as credited on the album? I can only hear Randy Crawford on vocals.
Look at the joy in Steve's face as he talks about this, two of my all time fave people made a beautiful track which never fails to move me, he knows this is a masterpiece as do we..roll on November

Dear, Hackett, o admiramos muito aqui em Porto Alegre - Brasil (...we admire you a lot !). Best wishes!
Magnificent romantic gem! Ty Steve!
Such great vocals on this track Randy Crawford was an inspired choice, plus that great string section so very good.
Love this song, Steve. I look forward to hearing it live some day.
Love that instrumental section, the solo line followed by the lush chords, with the key changes. Very influential on me as a guitarist, and musician.

Longtime fan but I just heard this first time today and absolutely love it. Sharing with friends.
I still love this to bits all these years later
Brilliant song from a brilliant album
When she hits that note my knees get week. 😀
One of your best song ever ❤️❤️❤️
Bella ora come tanti anni fa, grazie. Baci
Just a beautiful song. It did last for me!
Wonderful track. So well written and atmospheric. Haunting yet beautifully done. Lovely unique vocal.
stunning ,Steve..just discovered it..it is about surprise in chord choice--well done
Beautiful Song !!!
So nice when you stop speaking and smile listening to your own music...
Fabulous song and timeless too !
That album, Please Don't Touch, demonstrated how versatile a writer and musician Steve Hackett is, with songs in many styles, none of which is a Genesis clone.
Nice jazzy feel!
love these Track Chats Steve. May I suggest you play the music softer so that you can speak easier over the top !!
Ooh, so close! Am really hoping to see one of these for Hope I Don't Wake.
Hermosa canción !!!
Of course and Randy C .brilliant!
Great song !!!
Wow, I'd forgotten just how fabulous this song is. Randy Crawford was an inspired choice! ♥️

Great track Steve 👍🏻
Great track, still!
I wished Steve had been able to say more about this track
