Tiamet has been around since 4th edition, their lore being introduced back in 4th Edition, primarily as the source/origin of the Ymgarl Genestealers, before being expanded in 8th. They're one of the lesser Hive Fleets, so not a whole lot of people are aware of them. I think the picture showing their official scheme, however, is fairly new (8th Edition at the oldest). They're an interesting Hive Fleet since they didn't devour the planets of the Tiamet System (which is how the Imperium came about naming them Hive Fleet Tiamet). Instead, they defend their territory fiercely. On the jungle world of Ziaphoria, a group of Eldar Rangers found a tyranid bio-tower that amplified the effect of the Shadow of the Warp so greatly that their minds were sent into shock. The tower is later found by a Deathwatch Kill Team. The Space Marines were assaulted by psychic energy when they got near it, the pulse covering the entire world itself and killing their librarian. Only the Kill Team's Corvus escaped, the Space Marines on the ground all being killed. Now the Inquisitors of the Ordo Xenos are now looking into trying to figure out just what the tower is and what purpose it can have.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I actually came across this video looking for Tiamet painting guides, since it's the Hive Fleet I wanted to go with for my Leviathan Nids. So you helped me learn today too.
In the middle of painting some very detail packed ornate Space Marines, and even watching this video is like therapy. God how I long to be able to slap color over more than .1% of the model at a time.
I'm creating my own Hive fleet called Penguin. Black, white & grey colour scheme. I got some good tips from your tutorials & the paint job looks great.
Hive Fleet Spheniscidae, black carapace, cold white flesh, yellow to orange gradient near the neck area (Emperor Penguins as a model). Peculiar quirk of the Hive Fleet is the lack of flying winged organism such as Gargoyles, Harpies or Hive Crones, and as such it has been classified Aptenoid Tyranid. Levitating psychic creepies still common, though. (Xeno)Biology FTW.
@@RotGolem Oh cool, coz penguins can't fly, it makes sense as an inside joke as to why they don't have any winged organisms. All so Spheniscidae sounds more intimidating than Penguin & colour scheme sounds good. I'll check it out
There's something about watching and following your tutorials that is especially calming. They're always quite simple to recreate but the results are awesome
Love it! Found you randomly on Twitter this morning. Perfect timing. I was struggling for a scheme and now I have it. Subbed! Keep up the great work and I start checking out your other vids during my lunch breaks!
Welcome aboard! Glad to hear it might help out. Tiamet's a really sharp scheme, I like the look a lot. I hadn't heard of them until just a couple days ago, so it was fun to tackle something *really* new.
Brilliant! Had to send this to some of my friends who are eyeing tyranids. I would love to see how you’d tackle hive fleet kraken or the Crimson Fists!
It'll look a little different, but once you've drybrushed the white over the skin it shouldn't be massively so - best thing to do is to try it on one and see what you think.
If you want that weird, ethereal glowing effect to them, something like Aethermatic Blue over the white primer might work well. Or try Reikland Fleshshade for a gross meaty look.
Honestly, as simple as Nids look I’ve dreaded putting paint on any of mine. Best I’ve got is a black primer job. I just find one scheme I like, then I find another, then another… then another… another And now another…
You shouldn't use a paper towel to remove the excess paint before dry-brushing, you should use a textured palette ideally, or anything where the towel can't break down, and end up on the brush :)
Ordinary kitchen towel should stand up to a little work from a brush; toilet paper will disintegrate, sure, but you ought not to be pushing so hard that you're rubbing paper towel to pieces. I've been using it for many years without tissue issue. 😂
Ive been inadvertently painting a tiamet hive fleet...... ive been trying to figure out a color scheme to represent Slytherin from Harry potter, Whos colors are Silver and green....
Unfortunately you use the old shades that have been replaced by new les potent shades. So using this recipe for an entire army is pretty much impossible.
The new Coelia Greenshade is marginally different to the one you've seen on screen, and as it stains less it'll actually work better with less drybrushing than I've used here.

Today I learned!

This was very impressive using only 8 paints to make a very interesting color scheme. Thanks for sharing this.
When I was a kid my first Tyranids were primed white and smothered in coelia green shade. Im happy seeing this come back!

Great to see more videos on an underrated hive fleet. I would love to see you tackle a grim dark version of Tyranids.
A horde of these would look so awesome on a table!
Not only do you provide excellent painting tutorials, but dispense cool science facts as well! LOL
Always when you least expect it, too! 😂

Crimson Fists and Kraken both have a couple videos on the channel already, though the Kraken one I do plan to revisit with some of the newer paints.
Good luck with the back! We need the space marine chapter with the adeptus backoutus stratagem - speedy recovery!
I'm glad you tackled this hive fleet my friend
God bless you sir!
I've ben champing at the bit for a simple tiamet scheme!
I'm not doing tiamat but this video was wonderful for ideas on how to do my custom fleet
I’ve been looking for a faster way to paint my Tiamet gaunts. I really like how this turned out and might have to steal it!
Yesssssh. Love it, already looking forward to the next one!
Really really nice effect! I've already settled on Catgut's coconut crab scheme (going well!), but I would go for this if I was still undecided
Love the tutorial, if you wanted to shift the colours to more of a turquoise than green, what would you recommend as replacement colours?
Noticed the announcement on Twitter, I'm skipping lunch to see the video ASAP!
It'll be there after lunch, too! 😅
Really nice!! Would love to see your take on another new one - Hive Fleet Typhon….
Can’t wait to try this out!
Awesome! Love your videos
I find most people go for something a little too saturated for Tiamet. I think this is exactly the right kind of minty white for them.
Thank you , Troy .
I paint these with a bolter !
🐺 Loupis Canis .
That's the way to do it!
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio For the Allfather !
I just picked up the paints to do my leviathan box in this scheme the nuds were giving me the fear till I seen this method
So I have a quick question!
I have my entire tyranid army primed in wraithbone. Do you think this will work out similarly over that primer?
It'll look a little different, but once you've drybrushed the white over the skin it shouldn't be massively so - best thing to do is to try it on one and see what you think.
Love it! Cold you please do Hive Fleet Typhon next? Before i commit to Tiamet ^^.
Would really love to see a Hydra scheme, the classic Genestealer look.
Hi there, sorry for coming to the party late, any recommendations on how to do the wings and brain-stuff following this colour scheme?
If you want that weird, ethereal glowing effect to them, something like Aethermatic Blue over the white primer might work well. Or try Reikland Fleshshade for a gross meaty look.
Replace the black for the chitin with terradon turquoise contrast and it cuts out two more steps
How different will the final result be like if you prime with wraithbone instead of white?
Looks great man, if you don’t mind me asking how did you drybrush his “belly” and how long did the proces take you?
fast, simple and perfect as always. I have a little question because i have problems for my alien/xenomoprh scheme : how would you do?
Honestly, as simple as Nids look I’ve dreaded putting paint on any of mine. Best I’ve got is a black primer job. I just find one scheme I like, then I find another, then another… then another… another

can i also paint for example psychophage or barbgaunt like that? 🤔
Hey. Can this paint scheme work with that winged tyranid that came in Leviathan box?

Ah so green
