Just getting into tyranids and I’ve gotta say you’re take on hive fleet leviathan is my absolute favorite out there. The red on the claws just adds that extra little color diversity that really makes my models stand out. Thanks for these guides/getting me into 40K/warhammer last year and you’re my fav hobbyist on the platform!
Nice. Reminds me of a gargoyle crossed with the alien Xenomorph. While I don't have any large Tyranids I am gearing up to paint some big bad guys as Horrors for The Doomed and this will work out great as an example of getting a larger, monstrous miniature tabletop ready.
I just started getting into Warhammer 40k and, of course, my first army of choice is Tyranids. Your videoes are really helpful to newbie in painting like me. Thank you very much.
I used your method and started to do my Genestealers. Worked so well so I then thought I’d give it a go on a Carnifex and of course you’re right. Nothing to it. I’m so chuffed with the results.
I started painting my tyranids yesterday and while fun to paint as someone that generally paint space marines I actually find the undercoating stage the hardest! I feel like I use a 3rd of a can on a single model!
Love your videos! I'll use your guides for painting my new tyranid army... i wanted to ask you if you can do a paint video about Zoanthropes or Psycho Tyrant or tyranids models with the exposed brain just to see how you'd do it! Thank you appreciate your work!
2 Questions: Q1: Any advice for painting 3rd-edition style patterned tyranids using regular (non-contrast) paints Q2: Any advice for painting H. R Geiger-style metallic tyranids, either with conventional metallic paints or color-shift metallics (like from Green Stuff World)
I am working currently on a group of 3 warriors, The most difficult/boring part of it is the fact I have fully magnetized them and I am painting even weapon options I am never going to use and there's a boatload of weapon options.
I've got 3 Lashwhips 7 Boneswords 6 Scything Talons 3 Devourers 3 Deathspitters 6 Spine Fists 6 Rending Claws 1 Venom Cannon and 1 Barbed Strangler When in reality my kill team only ever uses 1 Deathspitter 1 Venom Cannon 1 Barbed Strangler 5 Boneswords 3 Lashwhips I figured it was just a good idea to paint up the rest because Why the hell not and because I had enough magnets on hand to make it happen.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio SOO many creators faff around on what those parts are. “Vents”, exposed muscle (wtf??), “ribbed carapace,” etc etc. Nah mate. They’re spiracles. Cuz they’re bugs. 🤦🏼♂️
It's a seventy quid model I wouldn't paint any differently to this - just a little more dark purple in some places, and that's it. The method translates to any of the large Tyranid miniatures just fine.
Not directly related to the video, but have you ever tried drybrushing with contrast paints? I tried it recently as an experiment and it felt like cheating! I thought had an odd, but very forgiving, smoothness to it. I suspect not all the colours in the range are suitable for it (so far I've tried gryph-hound orange and blood angels red), but the more mono-pigment-y ones probably are fine.
Watching this video, I note that my own Winged Tyranid Prime appears to have mostly smooth shoulder plates, while yours appear quite textured. Any idea why they would be different?
I just had to double check that I'd actually written it in there, but yup! It's in the description. ✌ Vallejo's huge-ass jars of texture paste are magic.
Oh, I always thought that when you took it offscreen to "pop a base on it" you were putting it on another pre-painted base. Okay, now I feel even better about not doing that! Thanks so much, I love your videos!@@SonicSledgehammerStudio
So, I am currently working on a hive fleet Kronos army. By chance, could you do a tutorial on how you'd do Kronos? I'd be happy to donate for the trouble.
Not my kind of "miniature", but surely it's very impressive. Perhaps it should've been easier to paint it in sections, expecially the wings are really difficult to reach in the interior.
Wow. Best Tryanid tutorial I absolutely love how it looks finally I’m gonna get some paint on my leviathan
I've learned throughout these Tyranid videos that contrast + drybrush really helps to add back some of the "life" contrast otherwise lacks. Nice work!
Dude I watch loads of painting vids but when I want to actually paint something, I always come to your vids :)
Same!

Much obliged! That's very kind. ✌
This is such a straightforward, noob friendly tutorial for such a great result. Thanks a lot. Can’t wait to use these steps.
Thank you so much for this 😅 started my termagants just like you showed and they look awesome

I painted my lev box last week following your tiamut video. I done what you said dont be fussy and i just bashed through them and they look great.
That is awesome!
I painted this model using your gaunt video. Awesome to see I came kinda close to replicating what you did :)
A Very Special Thank you , Troy .
🐺 Loupis Canis .
this is the tutorial i needed thank you!
Fantastic as always sir!!
Another great video. Would luv to see you paint a member of Gaunt’s Ghosts
wow the level is high! great method ^^

Sweet job. Thanks!!!

I was wondering the same! Think it’s 3d printed, looks more menacing lol. Nice job like 👍
Mmm gribbly
Paint me like you paint your French Gaunts, Jack.
Great video! Really fighting to not get tyranids but they would make nice gribblies for so many games at the moment.
Tell me about it. This dude's going to pull some shifts for Majestic 13 as one of the combat-oriented enemy types.
That, Stargrave and Xenos Rampart.
Amazing video!
The Leviathan purple looks REALLY purple on the other small models like Bargaunts

Sheeeeeeeesh purple!
Cracking job. I’ve only tackled the barbgaunts, screamer killer and brain bug so this might be next!

Well, it is just 8:20am on my side of the world and that's my first big, goofy belly laugh of the day. 😂 Glad I could be of assistance!

Hi, can you do a norn amissary tutorial ? :)

It'd honestly not occurred to me to give it a shot. I tend to drybrush with much brighter colours, but I'll have to try it out some time.
Your model has so much more detail than my winged prime from the Leviathan box. Why is that?
Because mine didn't come from a Leviathan box, but a 3D printer. ✌
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I thought so but didn't want to make an assumption. Thank you!
Ooooh! I just asked this on a previous video ahah I’m sorry! I appreciate this though
No worries! At least now it's got a definitive answer, right? 😂
Watching this video, I note that my own Winged Tyranid Prime appears to have mostly smooth shoulder plates, while yours appear quite textured. Any idea why they would be different?
Mine came off a resin 3D printer is why. 🤫
Where did the 3D model that it was printed off come from?
What’s the recipe for the base?
I just had to double check that I'd actually written it in there, but yup! It's in the description. ✌ Vallejo's huge-ass jars of texture paste are magic.
How did you temporarily attach it to the base for painting and subsequent easy removal? A little bit of superglue on one foot? Thanks!
It's just superglued in place. It isn't meant to be removed from the base - it's attached the whole way through painting, too.
Oh, I always thought that when you took it offscreen to "pop a base on it" you were putting it on another pre-painted base. Okay, now I feel even better about not doing that! Thanks so much, I love your videos!@@SonicSledgehammerStudio
wait...how does your prime have all those ridges on his carapace? mine is smooth...
Bootleg boss bugs have better bits, I guess. 😅

I've been using corax white, and it really sucks for contrast\speed paint cause it's not even white.
Just brush a little white over the top of it, it'll work fine.
I think it’s White Scar that’s supposed to be for contrast paints no?
Not my kind of "miniature", but surely it's very impressive. Perhaps it should've been easier to paint it in sections, expecially the wings are really difficult to reach in the interior.
Great painting but not keen on the sculpt, looks awkward..
Yeah, it's a bit of a funky pose. He looks like he's swung at someone and missed.
