Ken's Nid scheme looks amazing! They're a bit more reminiscent of the xenomorph than GW's usual schemes and the small bits of colour make them pop out. Would love to see some more of Ken's schemes. If this is a taste of the cool stuff that comes from his mind then more definitely does not hurt.
Texturing with Tamiya plastic putty is an old tank modeler trick to simulate the rough texture of casted turrets and tank parts. I use it on all my Guard vehicles. Being a bit of a perfectionist I don't think I want to do on hundreds of carapaces though 😰
This is so similar to the color scheme I did as a child, but just... Elevated. I've been bashing my head against how I was going to paint up my nids for the last week, and I think I'm going to combine my old scheme with this in an homage to my childhood. Thanks for that!
That's awesome. Honestly for an army paint, I'd probably stop right after matting the pigment, and then just hit the eyes with a green, and skip the in-between for most grunt models. The effectiveness is incredible for how straight forward the steps are. Love the idea of smashing pigment into the carapace segments. I'm 100% going to reference this order of operations whenever I settle on a color scheme
Would love to see an Every Combat Patrol box done in a speed painting style series. Similar to these Nids, couple airbrushes, couple dry brushes, couple contrasts, some basing, done.
I found your channel a month ago and I've been absolutely absorbing it. This is definitely a scheme I'm going to try to do myself as someone new to the hobby! My friend and I split the leviathan box as a way to get into the hobby and this is exactly the kind of way I'd love to do my Tyranids. If you're looking for ideas I'd LOVE to see your take on Grimdark Tau - I got the Tau Combat Patrol and I'm struggling with inspiration. Loved the army painting of Nids + Space Wolves and your Sisters series as well.
YES, I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED WITH THIS. There is a game called warmachine hords and it has an eldrich monsters army with this color scheme that I absolutely love!
Since the reveal of the new nids, I've wanted to pick them up but have been completely unable to figure how i want to paint them. This is it... this is the vibe, colours, grimdarkness ive been wanting. Thank you Cult of paint and thank you Ken and Ben♥
Thanks Henry @cultofpaint for sharing this tutorial video. Literally got me back in to the hobby after a long hiatus! Two quick questions / recipe requests: 1) What colour did you use on the bases underneath the pigments (dark grey and then a mid grey highlight?) 2) I noticed the Tyranid Prime in the photo montage and am wondering how you did the wings and what the recipe was if you’re open to sharing that? Thanks so much in advance.
I like this look its got that 'nid horde running through a barren plain with all the dust and debris left over from the stripped bare biomass from the soon to be dead world
Super awesome video - thanks for taking the time to put it together. Nice hangout with you on this video. Look forward as a newcomer to see more cool stuff :D I bet you got more! ;) And kudos to your friends for the awesome grim dark paintjobs.
Lovely stuff! Always good to see different approaches, and see how you can take elements from one and integrate them into your own workflow. The pigment in the chitin is a neat look, I'll have to remember that one!
Sometimes a fully painted army is better than a half painted army to a better standard. I only ever go to my local gw occassionaly and its rare to see a painted army, always swarms of grey. So even if individual models arent spectacular, those with finished armies always look much cooler on the table
This is brilliant! I am in the process of coming up with my own paint scheme for my Nids/Alien hives will be using s mix of models from different creators but damn fetting some cool ideas here. I oove the idea of using crackel paint to add more texture as well.
The general scheme I like, but I would have gone with a glossy black carapace, then grimed and dusted it down from there. Otherwise, nice technique and methodology.
This paint scheme was exactly what I was looking for. It reads 'alien' and uses many of the paints I have on hand. I had never used washes in my airbrush so that was fun. Buyer beware. Airbrushing ironach skin is a horrible experience. That paint clogs horribly. Secondly, painting the carapace black is a total of 10 seconds in this 15 minute video and is definitely the most time intensive step. There's a reason the host says..."Don't need to see any more of that." 😂 Painting the carapaces is longer than any other step combined. I plan to skip some steps such as airbrushing with Black Templar and some of the redundant dry brushing steps.
is that really black contrast paint on the carapace? it's coverage is so opaque! great scheme, i picked up a tyranid half of leviathan just to try it out 👍
i wanted to keep my leviathan box sealed until i have done my last few marines models..but i think i have to build the tyranids over the weekend now XD. Bens Space Wolved are looking totally stunning. How did he archive this paintjob so fast ?
Love his tyranids army and your take on his scheme. Would love to see how the IG were painted, i always thought they look great !

I'm going to with my Macharius, whenever I ever get round to it. It just makes sense (for some panels at least!).
Cool quick style. BTW those Space wolves at the end look amazing!
Absolutely in love with this look. Am considering it for my own force.

Ken is brilliant, that 'nid paint job is the only one that makes me actually want to get a few models!
That's awesome. Honestly for an army paint, I'd probably stop right after matting the pigment, and then just hit the eyes with a green, and skip the in-between for most grunt models. I've been looking for a grimdark Tyranid scheme to get my Leviathan bugs done quickly and hassle-free and this absolutely nails it!
"Smash it into the carapace" gave me a right good chuckle.
Would love to see an Every Combat Patrol box done in a speed painting style series. Similar to these Nids, couple airbrushes, couple dry brushes, couple contrasts, some basing, done.
Would love to see that space wolf scheme be done. Looks great to be addapted to any other colors.
So glad yall did this guide. I saw this scheme on instagram and was dying to see if anyone had a guide for it. Thanks!
Nailed the grimdark aesthetic! Unlike most traditional colour schemes for ‘Nids, this scheme actually makes them look terrifying!
the bases you did for these models are so cool! could you do a video covering how you did them?:) amazing work!
If i ever pick up nids. This is how. Stellar job. Thanks for doing this.

This is reminiscent of third eye nuke from back in the day
I love this army.
Love it! such a great scheme and amazing how fast it can churn out an army. Need to see how the Wolves were approached as well
YES, I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED WITH THIS. There is a game called warmachine hords and it has an eldrich monsters army with this color scheme that I absolutely love!
New to the hobby and just got an air brush yesterday after watching this video. Excited to give this theme a try today!
Jesus every time I see someone else's nids I want to start over and use their scheme. So much good stuff out there.
Holy smokes! That gives them a real ominous and menacing appearance. Outstanding!
oh well, I just formulated the reason that I don’t need this box, and then you show me this)
Since the reveal of the new nids, I've wanted to pick them up but have been completely unable to figure how i want to paint them.
This is it... this is the vibe, colours, grimdarkness ive been wanting.
Thank you Cult of paint and thank you Ken and Ben♥
I used this scheme for inspiration, mine are being painted black with purple shells and looking like dried blood on the claws
Ken's a good lad, nice to see him getting some love!
I am actually floored at how fast Ben can paint
Totally doing the Uhu Glue thing!!! Watching your old video on it next!
Like they're straight out of the Gears of War games. Awesome look!
Incredible work and love the spectrum of work lately from speed painting to golden demon. Keep it up!

Can we get a same kind of video for the Space Wolves? They look great!
Yes please!!!!
I 2nd this
This! Wolves please!!!
sure
+1
Great video! I really appreciate that you showed the steps of the process on the screamer killer as well.
I like this look its got that 'nid horde running through a barren plain with all the dust and debris left over from the stripped bare biomass from the soon to be dead world
I will try something similiar, but I also will put on some streaking grime and especially keep the lower part of the body more dirty and grimey.
Love the spider like vibe they have
They're called hive fleet Latrodectus, which im pretty sure is Black Widow. I forgot to say.
I want a close up of that winged tyranid prime, maybe even a 360 view of it
follow Ken's account im sure he'll post more of them
Super awesome video - thanks for taking the time to put it together. Nice hangout with you on this video. Look forward as a newcomer to see more cool stuff :D I bet you got more! ;) And kudos to your friends for the awesome grim dark paintjobs.
Finally ! Fell in love With the scheme on insta
Definitely trying this on my leviathan nids
Really love this video - would be keen to see further guides for speedpainting!
Love it! The texture and colours remind me of the look of the old scheme for behemoth on the nids 3rd edition codex
Cracking and very striking scheme. I’m taking a similar approach with Kraken in a grim dark style with bone and sepia wash through an airbrush.
Would love to see a vid about that wolves scheme!!!
Defiently using this! Thank you so much!
Oh that Guard scheme at the end is nice.
That'll be our next speed paint video.
absolutely love this scheme
This is absolutely fantastic! I'd love more videos like this! 😁😁
Thank you for sharing this scheme, the tuto, explanations etc... It's amazing!
Amazing results! And those Space Wolves were speed painted as well? Stellar work!
Yep, we'll get a g guide sorted for them asap
Would love to see more of Ben's & Ken's work :D

Amazing videos and love the grim dark paint scheme! Definitely going to use this scheme for my new Tyranid army!
Awesome scheme and guide :)
I liked when I heard the seagulls haha
This video was great. A fantastic speed painting tutorial.
This is an amazing scheme
That's a fab scheme.
Cool colours. I reckon it could benefit from an all over oil wash or Streaking Grime just to add some more contrast.
This is some good asmr material. Keep up the good work!
Superb look, might sway me away from doing Hive Fleet Behemoth 😮
This is incredibly cool and motivating!
The colour scheme really does look like the 4th edition codex colour scheme.
love it, kinda want to do this
This is brilliant! I am in the process of coming up with my own paint scheme for my Nids/Alien hives will be using s mix of models from different creators but damn fetting some cool ideas here. I oove the idea of using crackel paint to add more texture as well.
ken and ben sound cool, nice to see something a bit different on the channel. Im still very stuck on a nid scheme lol
Looks sick man!
would love to see a video on those space wolves!!!
What a wizard
nice recipe but I think that an oil wash would help getting more contrast on the skin.
What a great video
I would love to see your take on more realistic/grimdark knights of either House Hawkshroud or House Coldshroud of the Horus heresy.
That sounds fun
Amazing 🤩
Have I just been given painting tips from James May?
Loved it!
Cool as always. 👍
Can you post a video on how you did bases?
ruclips.net/video/uPlpBLkUUdA/видео.html
Awesome!
I'd love to see you do Rich's Lime Marines scheme!
Rich has done a video, will be released as shorts as he shot it for a reel.
Cool
Nice
Awesome guide.. are the mouth tentacles of the leapers also carroburg crimson with black? They look a bit darker
This is super amazing scheme. I wonder if there's a way to shift to a purple instead of blue feathering on the skin and still keep the grimdark feel.
Those are some good looking bugs. But excessive with the dust and the blood, though
More blood and dust you say?
WOW
Henry sounds like cavill

"See ill ya" greenshade? Ive been saying "CO EL LI YA" This whole time!
can always rely on Warhammer to give us unpronounceable words
how would you go about painting some GS Cultists to pair with nids of this scheme?
is that really black contrast paint on the carapace? it's coverage is so opaque! great scheme, i picked up a tyranid half of leviathan just to try it out 👍
The new Black Legion is really good coverage.
Why didn't you use pigment fixer before you varnished the models?
Love the scheme, is the uhu glue very fragile on the model?
It's not particularly robust. But Ken has done this on 1000s points of bids and games with them regularly. Doesn't seem to be a big problem.
What did you do for the texture of the bases? Or just the basing in general?
what would be a good wash to use for the skin? im thinking watered down carroburg crimson
Love the final look of them. Too bad that I want to paint the Marines as Raven Guard and two dark/black forces would be too much... or wouldn't it🤔
I think you could make them look different enough.
@@cultofpaint true! And besides, it is not likely that I will field them side by side. That being said, a testmini is already primed. Cheers.
And done. From primed to finished in about an hour.
Anyone know if the Solvent Free UHU glue would work? Can only get the solvent free locally right now.
i wanted to keep my leviathan box sealed until i have done my last few marines models..but i think i have to build the tyranids over the weekend now XD. Bens Space Wolved are looking totally stunning. How did he archive this paintjob so fast ?
he drinks a lot of tea.
for the black on the armor is it just a layer of the black templar contrast paint or did you switch to a normal black akin to abaddon black?
Normal black. But you could totally use the black templar.
