You saved me! I was giving up after renting the fan clutch tool at Autozone and not getting anywhere with it then I watched your video with the ratchet strap trick and give it a try and boom came loose!! Also had no clue the fan shroud could fit past the fan! Thanks for the video
Thanks man . That fan worked great . I couldn't get a good swing with my hammer on the wrench which usually works . The strap and a snipe was all it took . Cheers !! 🍺🍺 Total time , just under 1 hour to swap in my case .
Just ordered Murphy fan clutch from OReilly. They had 20 % off. Genos is backordered till end of Feb. Been driving with messed clutch for a while, short local trips, minimum idle. Fan is turning slowly, no roar. Can stop it with my hand.Thank God no accident slowdowns on highway. Temp would be insane.
One thing I’ll add to this (very)helpful video is to take one of those Sheetrock sponges and cram it between the ongoing clutch fan assembly and the radiator. It’s soft and will give you just enough push on it to thread it. I hope this saves you from the frustration/anger I was reaching...
Quick question do anyone know what color wire from the clutch pigtail goes to which color on the engine side? My belt broke and ripped the clutch male pigtail end so I’m trying to splice my wires 2015 6.7 I have 5 wires on both the clutch and engine side
Eventually it will throw a code. The computer monitors commanded and actual speed. This type of fan looses a little bit of its efficiency every year though so it can start letting temps slip before it totally fails. Another way to tell it's bad is if it doesn't roar in the morning (called morning sickness but it's a good thing). If you tow heavy, it's wise to swap it somewhere around 100K. And absolutely never use anything but OEM for your Cummins powered Ram truck (yes, their expensive).
You saved me today! My fan clutch pulley screws shredded apart on my 2014. This saved me from burning the truck where it sat! Haha. Thanks
Thank you I bought a tool for over a 100.00 bucks it didn’t work but your method did ❤

It comes off counter clockwise in the 2014-2018 4th gen Cummins correct? Youre a life saver. Great tip !

How did you know your fan clutch was going bad?
It never stops spinning
Eventually it will throw a code. The computer monitors commanded and actual speed.

wow... just a little red neck. Its defiantly a way to do it.
My fan clutch is always on for some reason. I have 2015 ram 3500 6.7 cummins
It may be freewheeling but not actually "on". When it's fully engaged, it roars. A good one will roar allot when cold and you just take off.
