I'm sorry folks, cats get on counters and tables. If you can't deal with that you've no business owning a cat.

I deal with it by putting spiky mats on my counters. They’re harmless but uncomfortable. My kitty learned not to jump on them. He has plenty of other places to climb and jump and now learned to sit on a bar stool and watch me cook.

@@creeper8647when I worked at a vet clinic, we had a woman bring in a cat that belonged to her parent that had passed. It was a young to mid age kitty with no previous health issues. The cat had been passed around by family members after the owner passed and when she was urinating on the woman's carpet she decided to have her put down. She had only had her in her home for two weeks. The baby was scared, confused, grieving and they wanted to just end her life instead of even thinking of alternatives. Needless to say we had her surrender the animal since there was no medical need to euthanize her, although I will also say that one of our veterinarians, just out of vet school, was willing to do it. I left that clinic soon after and he owns it now. He really enjoyed autopsies and surgeries. There are all types and we should always be aware that anyone can be a good or bad pet parent, no matter their income or lot in life and people in places of power, people with degrees and licenses are also just people and capable of the same issues and faults as anyone else.

Found out she was 8 years old and her name. They said all other info was confidential. They could not get hold of the owners. The Vet told us the pound would only hold an animal for 5 days and then they would put the animal down. We told the Vet we would take her home and take care of her if they would keep trying to find her family. Well, that was 6 years ago. If owners are ever found now, we would not let her go unless they paid us a 10$ a day kennel fee and reimburse us for all her vet bills. I figure no one would pay that much for a cat they dumped so she is safe with her staff, I mean new family, we will keep giving her belly rubs and ear scratches when she demands, I mean when she asks for them. ❤

I had tried adopting a calico to be a second cat to my tabby. Despite spending over 600$ in vet bills for urinary crystals, it proved that my first cat and the pretty calico were just not able to bond properly as the calico was an outdoor rescue and was too territorial for an apartment. I was unhappy but made the painful decision to return the calico to the rescue. It cost me 300$ plus the vet bills but I didn't think that I was going to return a sick cat or would I throw any animal away for doing what animals do. I am on a pension but an animal's welfare is much more important than being heartless.

I had to return a cat to the humane society and I felt really bad about it. She was a tortie and we honestly couldn't handle her personality. She was scary unpredictable. She would go from lovey-dovey to attack mode in a split second. She would bite my mom constantly for no reason. She was just so much more challenging than any other cat we've known. It was too much for us. But I donated the toys and cat tree that we had bought for her. I saw from photos online that the cats (including her) were benefitting from the stuff we donated. Eventually she was adopted, and that made me happy. I hope the new people are a good fit and I wish her a long life. I CANNOT IMAGINE taking any healthy young cat to be euthanized. WTF. Makes me want to cry.

That yes, kittens are adorable, but they don't stay kittens forever. The shelter posted Mia's story and photos on their website and it made people looking to adopt at least look at their adult and senior cats. Before Mia, I fostered a 12 year old cat. No one was interested in him, so after a year or so, I officially adopted him. Buddy was with me for 7 years. Their ages don't and shouldn't matter. They deserve a home to live out however many years they have left. And they're as easy to love as kittens.

The cat seems a little high strung. And getting pregnant so young probably didn't help. But all that means is she needs a patient and experienced adopter to train out any undesirable behaviours (like biting or climbing up on counters and tables) and play with her lots and lots to burn up some crazy cat energy. Also, the cat would likely mellow as she got older.
But whatever the issue, there's no reason not to simply return the cat to the rescue she came from.

It happens a lot, couple adopts animal, one of them gets attached to the animal, there is a breakup some time later for whatever reason, in revenge one of the persons attempts to euthanize the animal (sometimes with made up reasons). The clinics and adoption centers I used to volunteer at have protocols in place to catch this. Usually the cats are chipped and if taken to a vet the protocol is to contact the rescue if the owner comes in asking for euthanasia for the pet.

The lack of protection for animals is an absolute scandal.

that little meow she did into the mic is so cute. She seems like such a sweetheart; I don't understand why someone would try to euthanize her when it would be cheaper and easier to bring her back to the Rescue. The only thing that makes sense is that the owner was acting out of malice and for such a petty reason. I hope this cat gets adopted by someone that can give them a loving home.

I got my dog because of person like this. Archie was 6 months old when the couple who first had him wanted to put him down because their husky ATTACKED HIM. IT Took an hour of conversation to convince this couple to sign him over to the animal hospital I worked for at the time. 3 years, with some consistent training, he's doing great and is one of the best dogs I've ever owned.

Weird. Some people have no common sense. You have to teach your pet not to walk on the counter. My cat stopped doing it once he understood it was a no-no. People just don't want to put in the time.

Unless a pet is terminally ill IT IS WRONG to want to have a pet put down just because.

They need to publish the animal name that wanted that healthy, beautiful cat to be put down, so she need to be barred from ever adopting a dog or a cat. Who knows how many times SHE has done that. Cats will climb on counters, closets, tables, anywhere that is high from the grown. It's in their nature. Any one that is going to adopt a cat needs to know or be OK for that cat to have free range inside the house, because they will scratch furniture, door frames, curtains you name it they will get into. What a moron she was for not knowing that about cats.

You CAN train them not to scratch furniture and jump on counters. People are just too lazy to train them.
