In all due respect guys both Jets clubs are as broke as 2 brass monkeys as to the real reason they are not in the NRL A grade comp . As for the North Sydney Bears after the pillaging that happen during the Northern Eagles merger by Manly Sea Eagles. Those Sydney games are more likely to take place at Central Coast Stadium as it is more equip than North Sydney Oval. As to sending a team to Bundaberg or Maryborough is currently as the Wide Bay Bulls disbanded 8 seasons ago in the Queensland Comp.
In Perth you don't get poker machines in pubs and there isn't the club culture you get in NSW Qld. So any Perth team will need to find normal ways of getting revenue such as sponsorship and attendance.

I have never bought the argument that a national league needs a team in every State. They're trying that argument in AFL now with Tasmania and trying it on with NT. Both just don't have the population. I think 20 teams are too much for NRL and AFL. Any extra clubs really need to bring more money and fans to the game. People rock up in Perth for NRL and Union internationals. The English, S AFricans, Zimbabweans and Maori/Islanders will ensure reasonable crowds.

Perth makes sense, there's potential to make it a real success. PNG needs time and planning to make it work, but it shouldn't be discarded completely in my view. Another NZ team should be in the works as well there's room for 2. For non RL people who don't know much about the super league war, well worth looking at, it was a devastating time for the game, held the game back for a good 2 decades and traditional teams like the bears and your perth and Adelaide teams were collateral damage in the aftermath. Ultimately, all because of murdoch and pay tv.
Yes I remember the Reds. I have an old jersey. I still see the odd one around. I've never watched nrl, though saw a origin match in Perth. The Reds were getting pretty good crowds for a while until things started to fall apart internally and over super league. they played at the waca and got pretty good crowds, though probably inflated a bit with waca members. i don't think the fans were fussed about the circular ground that much. As they enjoyed seeing the matches. So a missed opportunity to have no NRL here for almost 30 years.
Agreed, Perth in the next 5 years, and then South Island and PNG over the next 10-15 years. Those teams will be more reliant on TV markets, as Port Moresby and Christchurch/Dunedin have modest populations, but could still be well supported Papua New Guineans and South Islanders. NRL and AFL are both provincial anomalies unknown outside of Australia (weird northern UK league notwithstanding). If any other sport can flourish in WA it is Rugby. They have a massive South African and English diaspora.
NRL should just create a second division, add all these micro clubs into that. Promotion to the top NRL for the champion, relegation for the lousiest team in NRL. Solved, your welcome. North Sydney RL could have moved to Perth back in the 1990s. But they didn't. They can rot where they are.
Perth supporters will have a link to an existing NRL team. Many fans will be from the eastern states and have grown up with the game. Others that are Perth born would still have a team. When AFL teams started in Perth large numbers of people still barracked for non local teams, including the kids coming through. People just watch the game on TV now and don't care if they can't see them live. But the fact North Syd or Newtown haven't played for many years in NRL is a great thing. Because it feels like a new club for people from Perth. There won't be people that hate the Bears. They won't feel as disloyal to their previous NRL team. But NRL needs to help this team be competitive asap.
N Sydney tried to relocate to Gosford whereever that is, because it was regional I thought. Just from what I read. I've never been to NSW so don't really know the lay of the land. But I heard that they offered NRL and option within NSW regions. But NRL was never going to buy that when they need less teams in NSW not more. Preseason training camps and practice matches should definitely be in Sydney each year.
Dont get me wrong. The idea of a PNG team it self isnt the issue. However as mention in this video, in order for the NRL to become a proper nation series. There should be a team in Adelaide and Perth. Also the second team in NZ sounds good. If anything if there are enough quality players. The NRL should look in having 22 teams with the addition of teams in Adelaide, Perth, New Zealand, Darwin, and PNG.

Perth fans may have one extra game over east at absolute maximum. But the away games just have to be against Sydney games so you can get the 8 games in Sydney at least. Long term fixturing commitment. Obviously preseason training camps in Sydney and practice matches. During the season they could do a 2 week stint in Sydney for 2 matchs in a row and do training for a week or so there. Get the fans to the training venues etc. But having home matches in Sydney won't go down well.
There will be plenty of opportunities to see the Perth Bears or Jets in Sydney without taking a home match away from a fledgling market and in doing so, treating Perth as a second class fan base. "home games" in Sydney will add to the travel burden of a team that will spend more time traveling than any other team in the league anyway
@@PjRjHj it just takes creative fixturing of away matches only against Sydney teams and giving them preseason matches and camps in Sydney. Also training before or after matches in Sydney (by staying over) and allowing Sydney locals to see them train and have club events etc.
I agree that Adelaide should be looked at but I mean the same thing can be said about the AFL being national. Where's the teams in Newcastle and Canberra? They are the six and seventh biggest cities respectively. Despite that, i think what will end up happening is: 18- Perth 19- Christchurch 20- PNG This gives the NRL plenty of time to invest the money into grassroots and pathways so that there are players ready to go when PNG start. Eventually Adelaide should be 21 and maybe 22 can be a 3rd Brisbane or 2nd Melbourne down the track.
Too many teams. 18 is enough. That's it. AFL has got suckd into Tasmania, because of the success of JackJumpers there and AFL is losing ground in Tasmania to basketball. So AFL is going 19 and will probably then have to go 20th. The standard of play just drops away. Any extra teams in NRL have to bring more people to the game and not be a drain.

But lets face it, the NRL and ARU dropped the ball in Perth. A whole generation of people born in S AFrica and Zimbabwe (and there are lots in Perth) play AFL now or soccer if the kids are smaller. Not Rugby and that's a fact. Same with all the Brits in Joondalup. All soccer. massive own goal for the rugby codes.
The time to do this was after the Western Force was dropped from Super League, but better late than never. League in PNG is not going anywhere, but if the NRL waits any longer in Perth then Perth's second code could be (shudder) Soccer
I reckon the fixturing would hopefully be done so that the Bears primarily play Away in Sydney, not Qld or Vic. That would give hopefully up to 8 matches in Sydney. But they want to be careful and not have more than 1 home match in Sydney. That gives the wrong message to Perth fans. So its a delicate tightrope to keep both N Sydney/ Newtown or Perth fans engaged in the concept. NRL needs to step in and really make it happen with the away games for the next 10 years at least. As RugbyLeague spreads around Aust more you can't have the Perth team only playing 3 times in Sydney.
Even 1 regular season "home game" in Sydney sends the wrong message. Why take any games away from a fledgling market just to add more to a saturated market that will already see plenty of away games. It also exacerbates the travel burden of the Perth team

A team relocation would work better for Adelaide rather than Perth. With the FIFO crowd in Perth there is the decent base for a club, not to mention the Force has done pretty well in Super Rugby over there and the Reds only folded cause they had the cost of flying east coast teams over there put on them, much the same as the Eagles until the Dockers came in. In this day, with airline sponsorship, that wont be an issue
The stadium was significantly rebuilt in 2010 yes. But recently it was shut down for 9 months to get it ready further for the women' soccer world cup. I think there are high expectations of stadiums now in Perth, so I expect they'd be looking to improve change room facilities further or increase size considering there will be multiple codes/teams playing out of the stadium. Also, I would expect they'd be aiming to increase corporate seating and boxes as that's a key money source. But if they wanted reserves or juniors playing beforehand or hosting women there consistently, then you'd need multiple large grandstand facilities and appropriate facilities for privacy and multiple teams.
If they could make the western grandstand look similar to the eastern one, it would look a lot better. Would also help to increase the capacity to 25,000.
@@B-tr9kz That is a heritage grand stand. Fred Book stand. Built in late 1950s. Coincidentally it was opened the same day that John Todd shattered his knee as an 18 year old. JT died aged mid 80s a couple of weeks ago. But I don't think they should remove historic stand. Also it reminds people that the ground never should have been taken away from the East Perth WAFL team, just so Glory would have a place to play. Fred Book stand remains. They could do the northern end behind the goals but that is the famous Hill glorified by Glory fans. I think capacity is fine.
@@B-tr9kz I suppose the other thing is that they need to put in lifts etc for access in the grand stands. Not sure if that's happened yet. But ground is sufficient in size as Glory only get 12000 absolute max. Union has dropped off crowds due to Force lack of success and lack of ARU support. Even Socceroos can play there and its big enough. It will actually take a bit of advertising to get it to sell out. Perth aint a soccer town.

The smart thing NRL should do is more teams in New Zealand. Wellington, Christchurch and a second team in Auckland to snuff out union, like NRL has done to rugby here in Oz. Kick the rotten door down and the whole rotten structure will fall in.

50K attendance at last years double header at optus. the atmosphere was amazing. even if we had half of that at a smaller stadium it would be a bigger spectacle than half the suburb games
amongst the actual born and bred locals not really, they'd semi jump on a new team when they're playing well, like they do when the Glory are going well, but majority of west aussies don't care that much about league except for maybe watching origin annually and in fact a large chunk of them are semi hostile to rugby league (sort of like how hardcore league fans in rural QLD are openly hostile to aussie rules). However Perth is home to a huge community of people who have relatively recently moved there from QLD, NSW, NZ & the UK.......honestly it'd number in the hundreds of thousands, and this is where they'll get the bulk of their genuine week in week out supporter base from.

The Bears should be based in the Central Coast by building a supporter base to challenge the Knights region and also retaining the Manly rivalry by also playing a few games at North Sydney Oval a year. I don’t mind if the Newtown Jets become the Perth Jets aswell, they can play games at the Perth Rectangular Stadium and Optus Stadium while bringing games to Adelaide aswell. For the 20th team I’m level headed with a PNG team or a 2nd NZ based team based in Wellington and the South island
I think an Central Coast/Northern Sydney is a dead point between knights and manly territory and even many northern beaches people hate manly. So I think a team within CC/North Sydney region might give these people a team to support. But I think priority should be with Perth first.
Tbh, I think the NRL wants to have their cake and eat it too. We just had the NRL season launch be played over in the USA, a market heavily dominated by the NFL. There's just... I mean why? I remember hearing that playing it in Vegas was to tap into their gambling market, but it still does next to nothing when it comes to growing the game. It would make more sense to open the season with games in Perth or NZ, and play it up in Grand Final style, by getting a famous band to play and make it memorable. But what do i know?
A few problems here that no one seems willing to address. The PNG team was to play home games in Queensland, for obvious reasons, hence what real support would they generate on game day? As a former Queenslander zero interest in that team, we already have plenty of home town teams to support. A second NZ team is a disaster waiting to happen, as the NSL are about to discover, sorry folks Christchurch simply isn't big enough and is a hot bed for rugby union - Canterbury and the Crusaders, and the lack of local players up to NRL standard means scouts trawling an already limited pool of players in Australia; do like the whole Kea thing however. Perth could work, the Reds certainly had support, but moving the Bears franchise over there isn't going to generate a support base in North Sydney, and weren't they looking to move to Gosford a couple of years ago? What happened to the Perth Pirates bid? Whether or not the NRL should expand is an interesting debate, the competing sports are on the movie with both the AFL and NSL having new franchises ready to roll, so there is a danger the NRL is left in the dust. Gluing on a team with no real home support is a recipe for disaster, I would stick with Perth and put the other bids into the "pie in the sky" category. As rugby union has discovered, expansion for expansion's sake sets back a sports any number of years, witness the absolute disaster post Super League. Out of interest, Adelaide not in the mix? Guess the Rams were as shockingly bad commercially as we all thought.
I can promise you that us Perth Locals will hate calling them "The Bears". Atleast "The Jets" sounds cool. I Believe we need our own identity to be proud of. We have such a large and diverse state and to name it after something that makes no sense to our geographical location or culture is stupid. Perth people won't care about the Bears. The average League fan won't mind. They just won't want "Spirit" or "Enlightenment" or "Mighty". Bears is traditional sounding enough. Then Rugby League dropped the ball in the 90s when the Reds got dumped. Fact is that Perth is full of people east of the Barassi Line who have established themselves here for work. Also you have so many South Africans and Zimbabweans who grew up playing Rugby in colleges, but their kids play AFL and soccer. Plus the NZers etc... Any rugby team in Perth will have support. Who cares if its the Bears or the Jets. S Africans probably won't be so keen with Rugby league, but at least they have an understanding of on of the rugby codes. PNG idea is crazy ridiculous. Actually a smart person would have them training in Joondalup where you have all the English, S Africans... fair number of Maoris/Islanders in Wanneroo. Of course League has people in Belmont and Rockingham a long way south and east of there. But an interesting thought. AFL if they have a third team in Perth would be Joondalup (unlikely to happen) but it would throw down the gauntlett to the AFL.

The ARU stupidly canned the team. And never really provided the help to ensure the team was successful beforehand. It relied on a billionaire Forrest to get the code back to Perth. So ARU has stupidly lost a whole generation of potential kids playing the game. All the S African / Zimb / English kids play AFL and soccer now.

Club being sold etc. Also Football Australia banning them from salary breaches didn't help either. Glory has totally disappeared from public consciousness now. Rarely anything reported. Soccer is popular to play but not to watch. 8,000 best case scenario. Eagles and Dockers average 45k every week when they play at home. Those numbers will continue to increase. South African who love physical tackling game get into the AFL matches and don't mind their kids playing it either (or soccer). People are into watching EPL on tv, but don't want to watch domestic soccer league. AFL is just a juggernaut.

Coastie here, and I am currently opposed to a Coast team. It would be like dropping a team from Werribee in the AFL. There is already 10 teams based in the area, so unless they cull teams down in Sydney it will just add to an oversaturated market. Yes, I would love to see a team here, but I don't want a team which will struggle, and the game needs to look at markets outside NSW/QLD in order to grow the game and the player base, not continue to tap existing markets

Perth makes sense, there's potential to make it a real success. PNG needs time and planning to make it work, but it shouldn't be discarded completely in my view. Another NZ team should be in the works as well there's room for 2. For non RL people who don't know much about the super league war, well worth looking at, it was a devastating time for the game, held the game back for a good 2 decades and traditional teams like the bears and your perth and Adelaide teams were collateral damage in the aftermath. Ultimately, all because of murdoch and pay tv.
Yes I remember the Reds. I have an old jersey. I still see the odd one around. I've never watched nrl, though saw a origin match in Perth. The Reds were getting pretty good crowds for a while until things started to fall apart internally and over super league. they played at the waca and got pretty good crowds, though probably inflated a bit with waca members. i don't think the fans were fussed about the circular ground that much. As they enjoyed seeing the matches. So a missed opportunity to have no NRL here for almost 30 years.
Agreed, Perth in the next 5 years, and then South Island and PNG over the next 10-15 years. Those teams will be more reliant on TV markets, as Port Moresby and Christchurch/Dunedin have modest populations, but could still be well supported Papua New Guineans and South Islanders. NRL and AFL are both provincial anomalies unknown outside of Australia (weird northern UK league notwithstanding). If any other sport can flourish in WA it is Rugby. They have a massive South African and English diaspora.
NRL should just create a second division, add all these micro clubs into that. Promotion to the top NRL for the champion, relegation for the lousiest team in NRL. Solved, your welcome. North Sydney RL could have moved to Perth back in the 1990s. But they didn't. They can rot where they are.
Perth supporters will have a link to an existing NRL team. Many fans will be from the eastern states and have grown up with the game. Others that are Perth born would still have a team. When AFL teams started in Perth large numbers of people still barracked for non local teams, including the kids coming through. People just watch the game on TV now and don't care if they can't see them live. But the fact North Syd or Newtown haven't played for many years in NRL is a great thing. Because it feels like a new club for people from Perth. There won't be people that hate the Bears. They won't feel as disloyal to their previous NRL team. But NRL needs to help this team be competitive asap.
North Sydney Oval is no where near up to scratch in hosting NRL games that's why the Bears tried to relocate to Gosford.
N Sydney tried to relocate to Gosford whereever that is, because it was regional I thought. Just from what I read. I've never been to NSW so don't really know the lay of the land. But I heard that they offered NRL and option within NSW regions. But NRL was never going to buy that when they need less teams in NSW not more. Preseason training camps and practice matches should definitely be in Sydney each year.
Dont get me wrong. The idea of a PNG team it self isnt the issue. However as mention in this video, in order for the NRL to become a proper nation series. There should be a team in Adelaide and Perth. Also the second team in NZ sounds good. If anything if there are enough quality players. The NRL should look in having 22 teams with the addition of teams in Adelaide, Perth, New Zealand, Darwin, and PNG.

Perth fans may have one extra game over east at absolute maximum. But the away games just have to be against Sydney games so you can get the 8 games in Sydney at least. Long term fixturing commitment. Obviously preseason training camps in Sydney and practice matches. During the season they could do a 2 week stint in Sydney for 2 matchs in a row and do training for a week or so there. Get the fans to the training venues etc. But having home matches in Sydney won't go down well.
There will be plenty of opportunities to see the Perth Bears or Jets in Sydney without taking a home match away from a fledgling market and in doing so, treating Perth as a second class fan base. "home games" in Sydney will add to the travel burden of a team that will spend more time traveling than any other team in the league anyway
@@PjRjHj it just takes creative fixturing of away matches only against Sydney teams and giving them preseason matches and camps in Sydney. Also training before or after matches in Sydney (by staying over) and allowing Sydney locals to see them train and have club events etc.
I agree that Adelaide should be looked at but I mean the same thing can be said about the AFL being national. Where's the teams in Newcastle and Canberra? They are the six and seventh biggest cities respectively.
Despite that, i think what will end up happening is:
18- Perth
19- Christchurch
20- PNG
This gives the NRL plenty of time to invest the money into grassroots and pathways so that there are players ready to go when PNG start.
Eventually Adelaide should be 21 and maybe 22 can be a 3rd Brisbane or 2nd Melbourne down the track.
Too many teams. 18 is enough. That's it. AFL has got suckd into Tasmania, because of the success of JackJumpers there and AFL is losing ground in Tasmania to basketball. So AFL is going 19 and will probably then have to go 20th. The standard of play just drops away. Any extra teams in NRL have to bring more people to the game and not be a drain.
Newcastle & Canberra provide AFL players though. Where are the Perth & Adelaide NRL players???

But lets face it, the NRL and ARU dropped the ball in Perth. A whole generation of people born in S AFrica and Zimbabwe (and there are lots in Perth) play AFL now or soccer if the kids are smaller. Not Rugby and that's a fact. Same with all the Brits in Joondalup. All soccer. massive own goal for the rugby codes.

I reckon the fixturing would hopefully be done so that the Bears primarily play Away in Sydney, not Qld or Vic. That would give hopefully up to 8 matches in Sydney. But they want to be careful and not have more than 1 home match in Sydney. That gives the wrong message to Perth fans. So its a delicate tightrope to keep both N Sydney/ Newtown or Perth fans engaged in the concept. NRL needs to step in and really make it happen with the away games for the next 10 years at least. As RugbyLeague spreads around Aust more you can't have the Perth team only playing 3 times in Sydney.
Even 1 regular season "home game" in Sydney sends the wrong message.
Why take any games away from a fledgling market just to add more to a saturated market that will already see plenty of away games. It also exacerbates the travel burden of the Perth team

A team relocation would work better for Adelaide rather than Perth. With the FIFO crowd in Perth there is the decent base for a club, not to mention the Force has done pretty well in Super Rugby over there and the Reds only folded cause they had the cost of flying east coast teams over there put on them, much the same as the Eagles until the Dockers came in. In this day, with airline sponsorship, that wont be an issue

The stadium was significantly rebuilt in 2010 yes. But recently it was shut down for 9 months to get it ready further for the women' soccer world cup. I think there are high expectations of stadiums now in Perth, so I expect they'd be looking to improve change room facilities further or increase size considering there will be multiple codes/teams playing out of the stadium. Also, I would expect they'd be aiming to increase corporate seating and boxes as that's a key money source. But if they wanted reserves or juniors playing beforehand or hosting women there consistently, then you'd need multiple large grandstand facilities and appropriate facilities for privacy and multiple teams.
If they could make the western grandstand look similar to the eastern one, it would look a lot better. Would also help to increase the capacity to 25,000.
@@B-tr9kz That is a heritage grand stand. Fred Book stand. Built in late 1950s. Coincidentally it was opened the same day that John Todd shattered his knee as an 18 year old. JT died aged mid 80s a couple of weeks ago. But I don't think they should remove historic stand. Also it reminds people that the ground never should have been taken away from the East Perth WAFL team, just so Glory would have a place to play. Fred Book stand remains. They could do the northern end behind the goals but that is the famous Hill glorified by Glory fans. I think capacity is fine.
@@B-tr9kz I suppose the other thing is that they need to put in lifts etc for access in the grand stands. Not sure if that's happened yet. But ground is sufficient in size as Glory only get 12000 absolute max. Union has dropped off crowds due to Force lack of success and lack of ARU support. Even Socceroos can play there and its big enough. It will actually take a bit of advertising to get it to sell out. Perth aint a soccer town.

50K attendance at last years double header at optus. the atmosphere was amazing. even if we had half of that at a smaller stadium it would be a bigger spectacle than half the suburb games
amongst the actual born and bred locals not really, they'd semi jump on a new team when they're playing well, like they do when the Glory are going well, but majority of west aussies don't care that much about league except for maybe watching origin annually and in fact a large chunk of them are semi hostile to rugby league (sort of like how hardcore league fans in rural QLD are openly hostile to aussie rules).
However Perth is home to a huge community of people who have relatively recently moved there from QLD, NSW, NZ & the UK.......honestly it'd number in the hundreds of thousands, and this is where they'll get the bulk of their genuine week in week out supporter base from.
@@Chris-wd4ii don’t forget how hostile QLDers are of the AFL but that seems to be competing well right now and Perth has a bigger Population than Brissy. WA will get behind a well thought out effort that we can get behind. Not some Sydney excuse to get them back in

The Bears should be based in the Central Coast by building a supporter base to challenge the Knights region and also retaining the Manly rivalry by also playing a few games at North Sydney Oval a year. I don’t mind if the Newtown Jets become the Perth Jets aswell, they can play games at the Perth Rectangular Stadium and Optus Stadium while bringing games to Adelaide aswell. For the 20th team I’m level headed with a PNG team or a 2nd NZ based team based in Wellington and the South island
I think an Central Coast/Northern Sydney is a dead point between knights and manly territory and even many northern beaches people hate manly. So I think a team within CC/North Sydney region might give these people a team to support. But I think priority should be with Perth first.
Tbh, I think the NRL wants to have their cake and eat it too. We just had the NRL season launch be played over in the USA, a market heavily dominated by the NFL. There's just... I mean why? I remember hearing that playing it in Vegas was to tap into their gambling market, but it still does next to nothing when it comes to growing the game. It would make more sense to open the season with games in Perth or NZ, and play it up in Grand Final style, by getting a famous band to play and make it memorable. But what do i know?
A few problems here that no one seems willing to address. The PNG team was to play home games in Queensland, for obvious reasons, hence what real support would they generate on game day? As a former Queenslander zero interest in that team, we already have plenty of home town teams to support. A second NZ team is a disaster waiting to happen, as the NSL are about to discover, sorry folks Christchurch simply isn't big enough and is a hot bed for rugby union - Canterbury and the Crusaders, and the lack of local players up to NRL standard means scouts trawling an already limited pool of players in Australia; do like the whole Kea thing however. Perth could work, the Reds certainly had support, but moving the Bears franchise over there isn't going to generate a support base in North Sydney, and weren't they looking to move to Gosford a couple of years ago? What happened to the Perth Pirates bid?
Whether or not the NRL should expand is an interesting debate, the competing sports are on the movie with both the AFL and NSL having new franchises ready to roll, so there is a danger the NRL is left in the dust. Gluing on a team with no real home support is a recipe for disaster, I would stick with Perth and put the other bids into the "pie in the sky" category. As rugby union has discovered, expansion for expansion's sake sets back a sports any number of years, witness the absolute disaster post Super League.

I can promise you that us Perth Locals will hate calling them "The Bears". Atleast "The Jets" sounds cool. I Believe we need our own identity to be proud of. We have such a large and diverse state and to name it after something that makes no sense to our geographical location or culture is stupid. Also you have so many South Africans and Zimbabweans who grew up playing Rugby in colleges, but their kids play AFL and soccer. Plus the NZers etc... Any rugby team in Perth will have support. Who cares if its the Bears or the Jets. S Africans probably won't be so keen with Rugby league, but at least they have an understanding of on of the rugby codes. PNG idea is crazy ridiculous. Needs to be less teams in NSW too.

Actually a smart person would have them training in Joondalup where you have all the English, S Africans... fair number of Maoris/Islanders in Wanneroo. AFL if they have a third team in Perth would be Joondalup (unlikely to happen) but it would throw down the gauntlett to the AFL.

The ARU stupidly canned the team. And never really provided the help to ensure the team was successful beforehand. It relied on a billionaire Forrest to get the code back to Perth. So ARU has stupidly lost a whole generation of potential kids playing the game. All the S African / Zimb / English kids play AFL and soccer now.

Club being sold etc. Also Football Australia banning them from salary breaches didn't help either. Glory has totally disappeared from public consciousness now. Rarely anything reported. Soccer is popular to play but not to watch. 8,000 best case scenario. Eagles and Dockers average 45k every week when they play at home. Those numbers will continue to increase. South African who love physical tackling game get into the AFL matches and don't mind their kids playing it either (or soccer). People are into watching EPL on tv, but don't want to watch domestic soccer league. AFL is just a juggernaut.

Coastie here, and I am currently opposed to a Coast team. It would be like dropping a team from Werribee in the AFL. There is already 10 teams based in the area, so unless they cull teams down in Sydney it will just add to an oversaturated market. Yes, I would love to see a team here, but I don't want a team which will struggle, and the game needs to look at markets outside NSW/QLD in order to grow the game and the player base, not continue to tap existing markets

Perth needs a bigger stadium at crown burswood inbetween optus stadium and the casino where there is more than enough land to build a 40-60k seater like Suncorp. theres all the public transport, parking and facilities you could ever want, the best in the country!
