Nobody appreciates how difficult it is to sing harmony and play lead riffs and fills at the same time. Keith was just amazing!
Always loved Judith's voice she could stand out without overpowering, then blend back into the harmony.
Exactly sir. I tried to say the same thing but you’ve already put it in perfect words.
The harmonies are great. Judith sings at the same level as the Harmony, but her voice is so unique and beautiful, it comes out in front of the harmony. Her voice was amazing.
I'm glad you discovered these guys, Paul Judith was an amazing singer - always spot on with her chords. But watch it again and see just how effortlessly she does it. Her hands are on her hips, so relaxed! We'll never find another Judith!
The Seekers had many great songs and still sounded great over the decades. Judith Durham (pronounced “DUR’ um”) sadly passed away in Aug. 2022 and was known for both a beautiful voice and a a beautiful spirit.
Judith's voice simply floats above the boys. It was sad to hear she had died recently. Mike in Oz
Judith had a very strong incredible voice. Pure and great. Judith is singing in and only female in this group.
I grew up listening to the Seekers. It broke my heart when Judith passed away a few months ago. Every time I hear this sonf I have tears in my eyes. She has the voice of an angel. Judith, there will never be another like you. RIP
She had the purest voice in pop music.
My friend, search for, “The Seekers, 1994 AFL grand final.” This is when they were much older standing in the middle of a football stadium in front of 100,000 people, singing four magnificent songs, including their smash hit, “Georgie Girl.”
It also features the song that us Australians would like to be our national anthem, “I am Australian.” Unless you are a robot, you could not help be extremely moved by this incredible song.
Also in case you want to know about AFL, (Australian football league.) this is the greatest ball sport on the planet which has the fourth highest weekly attendances of any sport in the world. It was codified before any of the other ball sports, and was created in 1858. Search for, “A beginners guide to Australian rules football.” Trust me it will blow your mind. Cheers.
THIS IS LIVE AT ABBEY ROAD. Their harmonies just can't be beat. Judith's voice starts melodic and then raises up. From calm and smooth, to the top of her range. No one sings like her.
From Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 love the Seekers ❤
The Seekers were in England in 65 when I was there. It was so nice to hear ppl singing to their songs. Georgy girl movie came out lots were singing that no1 song.❤
It’s still a miracle to me how Judith could sing so seemlessly casual and in harmony and stand out at the same time. I love how she starts to shine from line three. Thanks for your review Paul, much appreciated.
This is one of the all time great Pop/Folk songs. Judith Durham is superb here, with her sublime lead vocals, riding about an octave above the others - to create a beautiful ethereal feel to the song. The baseline guitars and banjo lay a beautiful instrumental baseline to the song. FTR, I am a retired, professional music critic with 45+ years experience and 60s Pop/Folk music doesn't get much better than this song. 😁👍
The Seekers has great harmonies and when they returned to Melbourne, Australia they performed at the Myer music bowl with an audience of 100,000 people.
Their biggest hit was Georgy Girl 8:11
There were over 200,000 in the audience on that day. I've never seen a bigger crowd in my life
Listening here in Australia. "The Carnival is Over" is another Seekers favourite, apparently adapted from an old Russian song, by Tom Springfield, who also wrote "I'll Never Find Another You".
Judith had a beautiful voice until the end, may she rest in peace
My favorite band ever.
Watching from Australia. Magnificent song!
The Seekers were absolute perfection. I was only about 12 yrs old when they first released their hit songs. On the BBS every Saturday morning was children's request show and they were there every week. I enjoyed their songs very much and was struck even at that age by the quality of Judith Durham's voice. In the light (?) of the general degeneration of everything in this world since then they have become the epitome of heart warming , life enhancing, beautiful excellence.
If you like this song by Seekers, try Georgy Girl in concert 1967? In Australia over 200,000 in audience. Judith wearing green dress. RIP Judith your voice will be missed especially with the guys.
You will love morning town ride her voice will blow you away
The Beatles recorded in the studio that The Seekers recorded in. 😜 Australian humour. The Seekers are special. See how felt that you seen it before? ❤
First record I bought at Woolworth, Tunbridge Wells. Loved it age 11. Thought it worked well as a prayer and was delighted to find B side was Gospel song, 'Open up then pearly gates'.
English people say 'Durrum', like the city. Australians might say it a bit differently. They came to England by sea expecting to be here a short time working the folk clubs. Immediately accepted by the biggest names of the London pop scene who appreciated their quality that transcended genres, they stayed a lot longer.
I feel like I know her as well I love it when they toss in the expected note, an octave up.
Beautiful song, kind of timeless
It is good that you spotted the high tone from Judith, priceless.. She was a remarkable lady, playing piano and singing for her mother at a young age. When older, she was drawn into the Melbourne jazz scene. She worked with Athol Guy at an advertising agency. Athol was in a folk group and asked Judith to sing with them one evening ay a coffee bar. That was it, he had arranged a trip to England on the liner "Fairsky", entertaining along the way, with Keith and Bruce. Judith joined The Seekers on the trip.
In England, there was a folk group called "The Springfields". Dusty Springfield, (Mary O'Brien), and her brother Tom were in it. Dusty wanted a solo career, so Tom, having heard about the Australian group, contacted them and wrote songs like, I'll Never Find Another You" and others for them.
From a young age, she had a lung complaint, which gave her a constant cough, but she was able to disguise it . Also, her husband passed from an incurable disease. She was a passenger in a car accident a few years later, in which she was injured, and suffered a stroke after a Seekers re union concert, but still fought back and was able to perform as if she was still 21 years old.
RIP Judith, and support to Athol, Bruce and Keith.
Ron Edgeworth, her husband, passed away from Motor Neurone Disease or ALS in the USA.
@@cgkennedy Yes, extremely heart breaking for her. poor lady .
Greetings from Wollongong, Australia.
Watching from Virginia, USA. I finished growing up in 60s. They were my favorite folk/pop group. Thier hit song "Georgia Girl" was very popular then. It has be said they became more popular than the Beetles. 🇺🇸
Watching from New Zealand. Know many Seekers classics. RIP Judith Durham.
I hope you find another ewe!
Bay of Islands :)
@@brettmcs9805 oh my, 😂
Judith Durham suffered from a chronic lung disease, bronchiectasis from the age of 4 years after suffering a bout of measles. Unfortunately this disease claimed her life on 5 August 2022 at the age of 79 years. A great loss to the world and to Australia in particular.
I love the vocals and harmonies but the lyrics are beautiful.
My father, a farmer, used to call this *"the lonely ram's lament."* 😃
I'll never find another ewe. Funny.
Judith was also a pro Jazz singer in in the 1970s as a duet with her husband on piano.
Philippines here. Thank you
Listen to them singing 'I am Australian'. This should be There National Anthem.
Georgy Girl is another great Seeker's song
Rest in peace Judith Durham, who sadly passed away a few months ago.
J.D was a beautiful woman with such an outstanding voice..R.I.P. Greatly missed.
Listening here in Australia. Try Peter Paul and Mary, Puff the magic dragon, another pure performance.
Judith's voice is very beautiful as well as her personality. The song tells us about not leaving someone's company without giving their name, however the song tells us that it tells us about the promised land and that it doesn't matter if she loses everything since what she cannot lose is who accompanies her. It refers to Jesus and some consider the song a gospel.
Australian hear , we miss Judith , she sang like an angel.
There were The Seekers and after Judy left they became the new seekers with two new female singers plus Atol last as well
Athol Guy did you mean? Keith Podger started the New Seekers.
I was born in 1957 and I grew up and loved the late 60s & early 70s music
My favorite male singer Freddie Mercury,Favorite Female singer Judith Durham.
Right there with you 😊 Though I also love the amazing voice of Annie Lennox
Judith Durham was their first female singer to join the group but she left the group in about 1979 to pursue her own career. They were famous at that point and they brought on female repacements including Karen Knoles who was popuar already by her own right. But no woman could replace Judith. The original group reunited several times and had some success. Nobody could replace Judith, the original Seekers just happened to be a perfect and irreplaceable match.
Despite a horrific car accident which left her with chest and lung problems for the rest of her life. Judith retianed her amazing voice. She died the same week as Olivia Newton John and Australia lost two amazing voices to the great choir of angels in heaven. You should check out 'The Carnival is Over' which really shows off her voice. The band came to London is 1963 as a cruise ship act and had the most incredible sucess between 64-68 at one point keeping the Beatles off the no.1 spot.
The car crash and the stroke came later in her life, the lung problem was from childhood. All the same what a voice, genuine, and a lesson to modern singers who use the "autotune" computer programme.
Is there a modern equivalent to her?, well I would suggest English singer Anne-Marie, who seems as good live as the studio recordings.. She has also recorded at Abbey Road.
I came across a wonderful Seekers song, Emerald City, so enchanting!
Classic Seekers line up on this one. Judith Durham is the original and best female singer ever.
The lovely Judith Durham died recently, sadly. Her surname is pronounced like the British city, ie DURRum - silent 'h' and with the 'u' sound like 'up' - not der-ham or doorrr-ham. Another really beautiful , but sad song by them is The Carnival Is Over, and a really sweet one for children is Morningtown Ride. I think Georgie Girl was a big hit in the US, though it's not one of my personal favourites. It was written for a movie of the same name. All are super-catchy and beautifully performed songs. :-)
This guy must have been born on Pluto. Oh my god.
Remember, no electronic pitch control back then.
The One and Only Judith Durham- she had an incredible voice ! The three boys from left to right Keith Potger, Bruce Woodley And Athol Guy on double bass
Attached is the SEEKERS final performance in Australia, where the lead Singer " JUDITH DURUM" now being so old compared to the young Girl in 1964. This song was dedicated to "AUSTRALIA ". This is a must see. Here golden voice still present and a farewell to AUSTRALIA. Judith soon after died. This is a reference to it ruclips.net/video/KrLTe1_9zso/видео.html
She is Judith Durham
Check out Georgie girl
World of our own
The. carnival is Over
And morningtown ride.
They kept doing concerts until they were just too old and now it's too late. They were great.
To the younger viewers who may not be familiar with the concept - this is what you call a tune or a melody 😂
Georgy Girl
This is when they knocked the Beatles off number 1 this is Judy Durham the other names where from the New Seekers after the 1968 break up
Love the Seekers. If you want to collect a few subs from Australia just start reacting to The Voice of Australia, John Farnham. He started just before the Seekers broke up but his biggest hit was in 86 and his last performance in 2019 I think. So a huge catalogue to choose from.
She is Judith Durham, I remember them from the 60’s , I know she’s Judith Durham
The Seekers in their day were HUGE. More famous than THE BEATLES. They were Australia's first pop/folk singers to go international and over the decades they sold out to crowded stadiums. Sadly they disbanded early on and came back a few times, mainly due to Judith's ill health.
Um, not more famous than the Beatles, but certainly one of the all time greats.
Judith Durham was the original, after she left in 1968 they had Louisa Wisseling (a music teacher), Karen Knowles and Julie Anthony in the following years.
I think you are talking about The New Seekers, whose only connection was that it was managed by Keith Potger.
@@skellertons113 No, I'm not. After the New Seekers were disbanded, Keith returned to Australia and the men reformed the Seekers with Louisa Wisseling, they went with her for a couple of years, then Karen Knowles and after she left, Julie Anthony appeared with them. After that, Judith was back in Australia, her husband was diagnosed with MND and she went back to the Seekers after he died.
@@cgkennedy Thanks for correcting me, that is part of the Seekers story I did not know.
group " its a beautiful day" White bird
That is judith
You weren't wrong though... there was definitely a similarity to Twist and Shout and Tequila.
My favorite song from The Seekers is *Morning Town Ride*
Twist and shout? WTH. Talk about a cheap put down. RIP Judith. We all loved you.
The Carnival is Over…1965. The Seekers.
Any chance of you being minimised and the subject being enlarged. Even on my TV the subject video is tiny.
React to..
As it is in heaven - Final Scene
So so beautiful ❤
@TeacherPaulReacts I'm Aussie, and I'm going through reactors, and I came across an Aussie band I did not know existed. They're not bad, but I can't believe what I'm seeing. Are they taping both vocals and instruments together? Is that true?
I believe that in December, 1964 Abbey Road Studio would have had only a 2-track recorder, at this point. So, yes, they would do a live group track, and dub the 2nd track with what little percussion you hear. This also was the way the Beatles did their first album, at the studio, Please, Please Me was a live track plus a 2nd track for overdubs and reductions.
The Seeker was more popular than the Beatles back then in 1960s. RIP Judith Durham.
You have strange associations. I myself grew up on the Beatles and know almost everything about them, but at the same time I liked The Seekers and I met them through the song "Carnival is Over" in 1968. Let me tell you, I personally would never associate this one of The Seekers' best songs - "I'll Never Find Another You" with John Lennon's also great song "Twist and Shout"
If you had Deathmatch 2000 between all the 60's folk groups, The Seekers would win. PP&M second.
Twist and Shout? Ha
Judith Durham
folk
Not only did you cut out her solo, you made the error of saying "both" male backers when there were three males all harmonising. BTW, Durham has a silent "H" in English, and Melbourne is pronounced Mel- burn rather than Mel-bourne. Just saying!
The H is not silent in Durham but the Aussie lazy speech makes it so. The name is from England eg. BuckingHAM Palace. The same goes for the lazy pronunciation of Melbourne, names after Lord MelBOURne.
@@barnowl5774 I was referring to the pronunciation, and in both cases I am right...idiot.
@@reggriffiths5769Yes, you are a right idiot to get 'cut up' over my information regarding pronunciation. Calm down!
@@barnowl5774 Is that "Calm Down" an order or a request? Or is it just that you can't take a correction or criticism? Do you perhaps wish to curb free speech which is perfectly legal in the UK and US? Saints preserve us if we have to be guided by American Barn Owls!!
@@reggriffiths5769 It is you who can't take criticism ( but certainly like to give it)! Why do you think I am American?
Today's music is full of shit, comparing to this marvel of harmony and good taste.
Do your homework bud 🫣 before you start !
It makes me so mad that these guys don't show any respect at all, they just talk and interrupt when ever they want, it's NOT you we want to hear or see!!!! Please give your opinions before or after the song, or say what you want but let us hear it........................Please?
I think you are very confused, the original link is in the description, please direct yourself to that video. People are here to see my reaction, hence the whole channel.
@@TeacherPaulReacts I'm not confused at all, please try to understand what i say, comment all you want BEFORE and AFTER the song, i'm not trying to do anything less than hear a full and non interrupted song.
@@TeacherPaulReacts Good Reaction. This was the classic lineup, so much so,I never knew there were any other "Seekers". Their era was 1964-70 for hits and Judith, who, sadly, recently died, had the voice of An Angel and had one of the finest Female voices I have heard in my 68 years in London. It is up to you, my friend but I would pause during the song if you are ready with what you have to comment on rather than break the flow, continuity, and rhythm of this wonderful song by researching stuff while the song is on. I think the research should be at the beginning or, if you're not sure, at the end, which seems the natural time for "research". Good Luck.
You can go and listen to the song uninterrupted any time. We tune into these reaction videos for just that...the reaction! Stop being a grumpy guts!
