Simple, wholesome music, there was no hiding a lack of talent back then. Those were the good old days, so glad I got to live them. R.I.P. Judith .

Georgy girl became their biggest hit worldwide because they got a break In The US with that one. It also became their last big hit. But In England «The carnival is over» from 1965 was their most popular. That was something of a signature song.

I watch this with joy and sadness. We lost Judith Durham within the last couple of months. She had the voice of an angel. Georgie Girl was a movie from 1966 with Lynn Redgrave. My favorite Seekers song is “I’ll Never Find Another You”. Check it out. You will love it and appreciate the talent that just left us. RIP Judith. You brought great joy to our age group. Thx

The Seekers wrote and sang I am Australian. They did a special farewell performance concert and sang all 5 verses. It is the unofficial Aussie anthem. We all sang Seekers songs in school back then.

You are very correct. I was 14 when this concert happened. I wasn't the the type of kid that knew what the deeper meaning of songs were. I now know there were war protest songs but truthfully I just loved the music and the voices. Now I appreciate how lovely they all presented themselves, suits, dresses, gowns. A very far cry from the barely clothed, crotch grabbing so called singers and performers of today. I just change the channel. Thank you for taking us back.😊❤

There is a version of this with the real live sound and its very good. Judiths voice was always great live. You can appreciate how professional she is by watching her microphone technique getting closer for some notes and further back for others. John Farnham is another who does this noticeably. As a kid in the 1960's the Seekers "Morningtown ride" was a big favorite.

I'd say in the 60's and 70's artists wrote fully realised melodies that didn't need a lot of dressing up.
Today, artists write fragments that are buried in a lot of studio 'effects' to hide that there isn't much of a melody to begin with.

I was born in 1960 and had this song and I'll Never Find Another You as a 45 LP (small size record) that I would play. They were more folk than pop but I loved their music and their abilities. They were very very popular back then.

Loved this then and now. While not the folk group sound of the Seekers, there is a singer-songwriter- storyteller still making the rounds at age 69/70. Once part of the band that made Down Under a household name, he and his acoustic guitars play intimate venues, charming audiences with stories in between songs. His acoustic versions of his old classics light up a room; new songs have the right twist of melancholy we yearn to be quiet enough to hear. His name: Colin Hay. One of my faves is WAITING IN THE RAIN (live at etown episode #789).

Georgy Girl is easily their biggest hit. It was the title song from an otherwise very forgettable movie.
I understand it was even a big hit in the US charts after going gang busters in the UK (and Australia of course) as well.
I grew up with them always playing on the radio and I've have been having fun looking at the various American reaction channels who are just discovering the Seekers.
A pity there will never be any more as Judith died in August this year but even then she was still recording songs with them. Their final recording is "Carry me" laid down just before she passed and released as a tribute to Judith's magical voice and gentle spirit.
It is a wonderful finale to their repertoire - I'm tearing up listening to it as I write this.

Didn't read any other comments; has anyone mentioned 'Georgy Girl' hit big as it was the trac for the movie of same title 1967 starring 'then' and 'future' all-star cast. Cult classic and great trac. You are correct her vocals are amazing, she sounds [pitch-perfect] reminding me of Karen Carpenter. Live, & Let Live, if performers stop performing show respect; they have a right to change careers just like you. [maybe glimpsed down and caught the gist of one, right].

There are certain magical combinations of voices and guitar virtuosos that are sublime the harmonies are so good transports me to a happy place An.other special voice I like are Karen Carpenter's.The 60's were such an optomistic time and inspired groups like these. A question, though was the audio dubbed on?
Other songs of theirs; morning Town Ride/I'll never find another you/Carnival is over/Allentown jail/World of our own/Island of Dreams. They are all special songs to me.

This was a big number esp in Australia. They eventually had their Final concert in 2013( on RUclips, ) around the time Judith had a stroke. She died in 2022 at 79, but the three others Athol, Keith and Bruce are still active in their 80s.
This was recorded at the Sidney Myer music bowl and not the MCG where the AFL grand finals are held. They did however sing at the MCG many years later at a grand final.

The concert wasn't at the Melbourne cricket ground that holds the AFL grand final, it was at the Myer music bowl an outdoor arena created for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to play outdoors, it was based on the famous Hollywood bowl, also the song Georgie girl was used in a sixties film of the same name and the song was nominated for an academy award but lost to born free, another tidbit their greatest hits album knocked the Beatles white album off No1 in the UK and kept the Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet at No 2 and spent 125 weeks in the charts.

    YES, YES, YES,
you must search for, “The Seekers, 1994 AFL Grand Final.” FOUR brilliant songs inc Georgie Girl. Trust me, one of them that you will be “absolutely moved by” is, “I am Australian. This should be our national anthem.
    PLEASE react to this.
No “Australia” did not win, because Australia wasn’t playing. The AFL, (Australian football league) is made up of 18 teams from around our country, it is the greatest game on the planet, but unique to Australia. It has the fourth highest weekly attendances of any sport in the world. Even some weekly games can get 90,000 people attending.
Please search for, “A beginners guide to Australian rules football.” You will be shocked. Cheers.

And then a major corporation co-opted the tune for an advertisement campaign... (I sill hear this song when I drink a Coke)

So I've come back to your program, not bad, and I thought, as an Aussie, I've never heard of the Seekers, so I looked them up. I listened to some more of their songs and came across this one: Puff the magic dragon: ruclips.net/video/jvZVBpOcmgw/видео.html which I thought you might like. But really looking through your playlist, I thought why have you left out Blackpink. C'mon man listen to this: Kill this Love, ruclips.net/video/2S24-y0Ij3Y/видео.html and btw I follow Blackpink because one of the girls, Rosé, grew up here and is the main vocalist in the biggest girl group on the planet. Enjo!! I listened to the end, and I realised you like ballads, so to entice you, here is a cover of Paramore's 'The only Exception' by Rosé ruclips.net/video/2DUdg4dnse8/видео.html or one of her solos, Gone: ruclips.net/video/K9_VFxzCuQ0/видео.html
