    The Seekers were another great Australian folk pop band from the 60's. Judith Durham had such a beautiful voice. She just passed away recently. They had so many great hits including "Georgy Girl", "A World Of Our Own", "Morningtown Ride", "Someday, One Day" etc. They have beautiful voices & harmonies. They don't make nostalgic music like this anymore. Reminds me of a simpler time.

    This recording studio here is in England. It is called Abbey Road, the same one that the Beatles recorded in.
    Judith Durham was a tiny person with a huge strong, clear voice, an opera trained singer and pianist. The tall guy with black rimmed glasses is Athol Guy, on the double Bass, (like a huge violin). The middle guy is Bruce Woodley, guitarist, who wrote "I Am Australian." The guy on the left is Keith Potger, guitarist. These folk are the original band members.

    This is one of my favorite golden oldies. If you want a happy sound and lovely harmony, the Seekers are a nice choice. This group is part of that folk music movement that ran parallel with the heavier rock'n roll sound of the 60's. Groups like the Kingston Trio, Peter Paul and Mary, and even some of the Everly Brothers music. Peter Paul and Mary are the zeitgeist of the 60's with its pacifism and then there's 'puff' the magic dragon. Try listening to "Where have all the flowers gone?" - you will have a tear in your eye. Simon and Garfunkel are a little later but you will see some connection to the earlier stuff.

    • @frederickbays405
      @frederickbays405 Год назад

      "Where have all the flowers gone?" is the most powerful song ever written to say what it says. It was written by Pete Seager He 11st did it in 1955
      Marlene Dietrich did in German as "Wo die Blumen sind?"
      It was '62 when Peter, Paul & Mary did their version
      Many others have done it over the yrs but these three are the bet by far.
      U really should do both PP$M's version and Marlene's back to back on same vedio Bet u would increase ur viewership in German by a few 1000's

    No drums, no shrieking electric guitars. Soft folk rock.
    I remember when this song came out and I knew it was a good song and I enjoyed it but it’s only after these many years when I see the RUclipsrs play it (because they never heard of the seekers and they’ve never heard this song before) that I’ve come to appreciate what a wonderful performance by Judith and the group. It’s a simple song but they had a beautiful harmonization and just primary instruments. It’s not too little and it’s certainly not too much. it’s a solid performance that only enables you to feel the lyrics and to take it to heart.

    Back in the day they were more famous around the world than the Beatles. They were known as a folk singing group - that style was just before pop music. One of their major hits was GEORGIE GIRL which is on youtube too. They split up as a group at one stage and then came back to sing again. Poor Judith had some major health issues later in her life and sadly died just around the same time another famous Aussie did, Olivia Newton John. Judith's voice was definitely a hit with people - she was clear and strong in her style. Sort of like the late Karen Carpenter.

    The Seekers were an Australian group fronted by Judith Durham. Judith passed recently (August 2022) at the age of 79. She was an incredible singer. The Seekers were one of those groups that was very popular in most of the world but only had minimal success in the USA. Thier only other hit here was a song called "Georgy Girl" which was from a British movie of the same name. The Seekers were so highly regarded that years after they broke up another group was formed in the UK that called themselves "The New Seekers." They also went on to be very popular in most the world except for the USA.

    This is one of the all time great Pop/Folk songs. Judith Durham is superb here, with her sublime lead vocals, riding about an octave above the others - to create a beautiful ethereal feel to the song. The baseline guitars and banjo lay a beautiful instrumental baseline to the song. FTR, I am a retired, professional music critic with 45+ years experience and 60s Pop/Folk music doesn't get much better than this song. 😁👍

    That studio is the exact room that that Beatles recorded most of their albums. Most of their hits of the day are in a similar style to this. They did record a few gospel style songs. Also one reason Australian and British artists were so popular in America is that they had no qualms what I call “mixing the black music with the white music”. While the main recording part of their career was in the 60s the band reunited in the early 90s and toured on and off right up until around 2015 even recording one song right before Durham died.

    Studio is EMI Abby Road - studio 2. One of the reasons 60's music is so good is that it was recorded as a "performance" with evetyone singing/playing their hearts out (see some of the Beatles 60's recordings) - nowadays it's all multi-tracked bit by bit with artists playing notes and not music - may be note perfect, but most does not have the "heart" anymore as its not a performance.

    Look at their final song "I am Australian" almost an unofficial Australian anthem, recorded about 50+ years after this. The Seekers were one of the first Aussie groups to make it internationally.

    You must search for, The Seekers, 1994 AFL grand final. They are older and standing in the middle of the football stadium in front of 100,000 people. They sing four absolutely magnificent songs, don’t miss it.
