This song will always remind me of a great friend who died graduation night from college 42 years ago. We had gone to a Who concert earlier in the year and we loved this song. I still have this album. ❤
So sorry about your friend .My eldest brother who passed in 1990 ,he had this album and I always think of him when I hear it . Isn't something how songs bring us right back .
Roger Daltrey's vocals in this are legendary. Townshend's lyrics really epitomize someone with Jekyll and Hyde feelings. Then you get Keith Moon going nuts on the drums. My only criticism of the song is that it is far too short. I always want more of the frenetic activity.
The bass lines by "The Ox" (aka John Entwistle) really make this track for me. I'm a guitar player and Townsend's riffs, both acoustic and electric, are nothing short of legendary but Entwistle's counter melody behind the acoustic guitar on the verses is just amazing. And he makes it sound, and even look, quite simple to play. Until you try to play it yourself, that is. "The Ox" is one of the most influential bass players in the history of Rock & Roll.
Yes John Entwhistle's bass lines are always stellar, often they are lead guitar lines on the bass, but never forgeting he's holding down the rhythm and highlighting Keith Moon's drums (definitely a smiling madman) shine even more so.
Behind Blue Eyes is a deep song by The Who that I love. Pinball wizard from Tommy is my favorite song by The Who as well and We won't get fooled again, followed by My Generation and Magic Bus.
There aren't many perfect albums where every song is great, Fleetwood Mac Rumors, Pretenders Learning to Crawl and 500 more I can't list but this one? Absolute perfection. This album is the middle of a trifecta of perfect albums, Tommy , Whos Next and Quadrophenia.
At some point, you need to check out Roger Daltrey singing "I Want It All" at Freddie Mercury tribute concert. In that moment, he makes the song his own and you almost forget that it's not a song by The Who. I bet Freddie would have loved it.
Classic Rock music just hits different than modern stuff. I appreciate the skills and talent of all musicians but rock from the 60's and 70's always cuts deep.
Simon and Garfunkel's 1965 "I Am a Rock" goes really well thematically and musically with this 1969 song. Both were played on the radio a lot back in the late sixties and early seventies.
They have a great ability to vary the tempo & power of their song that really keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next note. Another HUGE recommendation for 'Love, Reign o'er me' for your next Who song!!!
This song is from a Who? album entitled "Who's Next?" To me, it's one of the best albums to come out of the rock era by anyone. Do yourselves a favor a get a copy of this album. Every song is a masterpiece!

Yes! Finally! One of the greatest power ballads of all time. One of the first song I simply had to learn to play. So much anguish, so much strength, the dynamics and the piercing power of this masterpiece are incomparable.
I never really thought about how this song picks up once he starts talking about how his suffering comes out through anger and violence... Great reaction! Eminence Front is really cool as well by The Who!
Reminds me of my brother, Tim, who died in September. When we were teens his music would come through the vent from his bedroom to mine. He was all about The Who, Kiss, Alice Cooper, the Beatles. I miss him.
For my money, the best song on the album is "The Song Is Over," with "Gettin' In Tune" a close second. But the whole album is so good that I can't fault anyone who ranks it differently. "Love, Reign O'er Me" is well worth a listen, but honestly so is all of Quadrophenia, and it has more emotional weight with everything that comes before it on the album. So I'd say if you want to get off Who's Next for a bit, go for "Slip Kid." (They gave Keith Moon a cowbell for that one.)
@@minkhollow My favorite is " Going Mobile " because at the time I had the 8 track tape playing this Album, and I was on the road a lot. All songs are classic !!
I saw the WHO in July of 1980 in Memphis TN. !0th row center !! The absolute BEST show I have ever seen. I have been to over 300 shows in my life and that was just so DAMN good. I did not get to see Keith Moon but I did see and hear John Entwistle (bass player) About 3 hrs long. Roger Daltrey was the best front man I have ever seen as well.
The Who, Who’s Next, is there best album. Every song is great, every song that radio play in the 70s. Everybody should listen to (Who’s Next) start to finish, you won’t be disappointed.
The funny thing is i just had the DVD in hand, yesterdy when i cleaned up. And yea the album and movie are brilliant. I asks my self, how many youngster will understand it.
I had the pleasure of attending 2 The Who concerts...amazing musicians and showmen and LOUD !! I have enjoyed many concerts and, by far, their concerts were the LOUDEST. Good times....
I was 11 years old in 1982 when HBO showed The Who’s final tour. I was mesmerized and an immediate crazy fan. I remember that old floor model television 📺 cranked up so loud the speakers were distorting. I would grab my toy guitar and windmill and jump off my bed going crazy watching that concert. Every time I hear The Who I think about being a kid.
Since everyone else is suggesting "Love Reign O'er Me" (which I agree you MUST hear), I'll throw in "Emminence Front" with Pete on lead vocals, and "My Wife" with John on lead vocals, just so you can get a fuller sense of what each member brought to The Who.
A great song for the older RSR family members, who remember The Who in their day, is Pete Townshend's "Slit Skirts." When it came out the message of growing old and changing really hit me -- and I was 22! LOL... Now I'm 62... and it hits even harder -- but beautifully. One of genius Pete's best on his own from The Who.
The Who quite literally have way too many great tunes to list but here are a few of their 🔥🏆🎶 - Eminence Front, Athena, Join Together, Getting in Tune, Pinball Wizard.
@@beekay5914 It doesn't suck, but it's after Pete was past his prime of writing songs other than a few gems. Don't listen to it for ten years and then you will grow to enjoy it. The Music Must Change from Who are You was a song I didn't like so I always skipped over it. Now I love it and enjoy hearing Pete's Wing Tip shoes walk across the floor as it starts. Remember that?
Hi Amber and Jay! My FAVORITE BAND-- The WHO!!!! I have seen them 4 times! (First time was in 1982) Love your reactions----you two are so much fun and real---Thank you for your reactions and sharing QUALITY MUSIC with the masses! It is so great when young and old people can "Learn or be cultured to appreciate music/bands/genres"---You are T.C. = "Too Cool"...Keep doing what you are doing! You guys ROCK!!! Peace to both of you. Stay safe!
This may sound strange, but when you listen to The Who, think about the players in this order - lead bass, lead drums, lead vocals, rhythm guitar (Townshend is a fabulous rhythm guitarist, but Entwistle played lead bass; Moonie was just Moonie)
Great reaction guys I read most of the comments and found no one mentioned Keith Moon he is the best drummer by far imo watch some live performances of him he puts on his own show with the double base and the rest of his set surrounding him simply amazing. Keep the reactions coming
You should watch a live video of them sometime, they are incredible to watch. High high energy from Moon on the drums, Townshend and his famous windmill style, Daltry with his tasseled shirts and throwing the microphone all around, and finally Entwistle who seems the most calm but is just as essential to The Who "sound".
Ya can't go wrong with ANY song from the album "Who's next" . The classic of classic albums. My 3rd favorite band preceded by Rush and Pink Floyd (in that order).
A & J, the member of The Who most overlooked is undoubtedly bassist John "The Ox" Entwistle. If you're up for an absolute banger with arguably the greatest bass guitar work in all of rock n roll, you need to give a listen to "The Real Me." Trust me, you've never heard anything like it!🔥
Thanks for more . Since Happy Jack they have progressed into a fabulous band with a string of hits. Quadrophenia an example of perfection. Saw their first farewell tour in 1975 at Maple Leaf Gardens and they rocked it. Let's go for more!!! Loved your reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
One of the top 5 bands of my 55 year old existence! Kieth Moon is a drummer that compares to no one. Quadrophenia and Tommy are Rock Operas, meant to be played front to back. Definitely give those a try
Ok, now you've done it. You've gone and played one of the tunes that reached into my heart and squeezed it so hard that all my angst just...melted away. The first part just kills me so good it brings tears to my blue eyes... The second part is pure humanity that reminds me that while some of us are long peninsulas, no man is an island... Speaking of islands, my suggestions after this reaction is Simon and Garfunkel's *I Am A Rock* which ties into this tune rather nicely... Thanks S.W.
An amazing song, on an even MORE amazing album, 'Who's Next'. EVERY song is a masterpiece of songwriting and vocals. All four band members could be considered the best at what they do. THE WHO!!!
Keith Moon comes stomping in on the drums, and trees get knocked down, waves crash over the shore, and people run for their lives. Keith Moon, there is no substitute, unless it's Substitute.
This is from WHO'S NEXT album , I wore it out ,in the car and on the turn table.. One peculiar rocker from that is MY WIFE sung by bass player John Entwhistle ..It is so awesome....I Can See For Miles is their huge psychedelic hit from 1967 that you should check also..

It was a crowd so packed around that window, you had to climb up the window ledge and fall back on the crowd that would then hand you out to the edge to escape. Good times.... :)
Worth mentioning that despite all the talent in the band for most of their earlier career Keith Moon, the drummer, was considered the most talented part of the band. An interesting note is that Animal from the Muppets was based on Moon's drumming style. Unfortunately Moon's drug addiction wasted him away, but one Hell of a drummer!

I love how y'all listen with eyes closed, just like the first time I heard it. Grew up in the FM Album Stations time in late '70's when the DJ would let you know when to start the cassette recorder. Thanks for bringing back that feeling and great music.
Fun facts: Animal from the Muppets is based on the drummer, Keith Moon. Roger Daltrey, the singer, was a semi-regular on the 1990s sci-fi series Sliders.
This song will always remind me of my brother (who I’m estranged from) when he was in his late teens, playing guitar, singing & recording it in his room for hours. He’s now 64, hard to believe how fast time flies. Awesome, though very sad song! ✌️💗
Give a listen to 'Pure and Easy' from the 'Odds and Sods' album. It was written, as was 'Behind Blue Eyes', for a double album ( 'Lifehouse') and was one of the stronger songs cut out when the 'Lifehouse' project morphed into 'Who's Next'.
The vocals yes ... but all of the instrumentation in this is phenomenal!! In particular, the drums and the *bass guitar* runs ... those are awesome and you really have to listen and pay attention to catch them!! Great stuff!! @RobSquadReactions
When you have been utterly destroyed emotionally, cut deep and hurt bad but had to hide that pain and carry on for the sake of others who are innocent and still need you to be strong for them. When you've had to swallow that pain and bury that anger deep behind a façade, bite your tongue and pretend to be happy when you truly never can be again. Then even years later you can listen to this song and cry, scream let out your demons and then pull yourself together and carry on again.
Awesome! This is one of my favorite songs by them. If you want to hear their earlier sound, try "Magic Bus." The Who also has infused a fun quirky sense of humor into some of their songs. If you want to hear something fun, try "Boris the Spider."
Would love to see you two react to Roger Daltrey (lead singer of The Who) perform with Queen on the Queen song "I Want It All" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in Wembley Stadium! There are certain bands you have to cover when exploring classic rock The Beatles, The Stones, etc. etc. etc. The Who is most definitely on that list . When you're talking about front men you have to talk about Roger Daltrey . The man can croon and he's one of the best at screaming and belting it out. Fun facts: Animal from the Muppets is based on the drummer, Keith Moon. Roger Daltrey, the singer, was a semi-regular on the 1990s sci-fi series Sliders.
I remember Daltrey also being in the TV series Highlander.
Always listening to this during high school, one of their best albums, def! Can’t escape teenage years without The Who!!
The vocals yes ... but all of the instrumentation in this is phenomenal!! In particular, the drums and the *bass guitar* runs ... those are awesome and you really have to listen and pay attention to catch them!! Great stuff!!

Finally someone mentioned the Ox's melodic bass playing.
When you have been utterly destroyed emotionally, cut deep and hurt bad but had to hide that pain and carry on for
the sake of others who are innocent and still need you to be strong for them. When you've had to swallow that pain
and bury that anger deep behind a façade, bite your tongue and pretend to be happy when you truly never can be again.
Then even years later you can listen to this song and cry, scream let out your demons and then pull yourself together and
carry on again.
I have been waiting for this reaction 😊
One of the best made...51 years old and still sounds fresh
Another great song by the Who is "Tommy can you hear me" from the rock opera, "Tommy". Oh, another one is "Pin ball wizard".
This is my favorite song from this album and it’s my favorite album from The Who, this song is definitely a masterpiece
Beautiful song!! My parents played this a lot when I was a child…
That was my sister. I kind of "borrowed" her copy of Tommy and never looked back.
First group to have album Rock Opera "TOMMY" Yes, rock opera!!!😍
That entire record is full of great tunes not to mention that it was released in 71' and still to this day is a FANTASTIC record overall !!
You guys MUST listen to THE REAL ME, LOVE REIGN O'ER ME (Quadrophenia LP) & AMAZING JOURNEY/SPARKS from Live at Leeds. The Who at their peak! 🔥🔥
Your next Who song NEEDS to be "Love, Reign O'er Me". It's almost a perfect song. So good.
100%
Yes!
I'm on board with that.
“A cool transition” - yes indeed - one of the best and most amazing ever.
Awesome! This is one of my favorite songs by them. If you want to hear their earlier sound, try "Magic Bus." The Who also has infused a fun quirky sense of humor into some of their songs. If you want to hear something fun, try "Boris the Spider."
Magic Bus live at Leeds version. 😁
"And if I swallow anything Evil, Put your fingers down my throat" Best line EVER !!!
The Who is, without a doubt, one of the truest rock bands in every way. Their instrumentation, lifestyle, and stage show just screamed rock.
Man they are great for one reason they are so different and story tellers . In the 70s they just took us away
Truly one of the greatest rock albums ever.
top five!
Yes. Classic rock. Thank you.
Would love to see you two react to Roger Daltrey (lead singer of The Who) perform with Queen on the Queen song "I Want It All" at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert in Wembley Stadium! The awesomeness of Queen and The Who as well as Tony Iommi from Black Sabbath makes the entire stadium erupt into rock and roll bliss! Here's a link to it (over 10 million views): ruclips.net/video/4CSSnrY3Ezs/видео.html
The WHO and the ROLLING STONES are the two most IMPORTANT Bands to come out of London ! ! ! And they have Still to This Day, never been topped! BELIEVE THAT ! ...Newk from Kentucky
I,M,O the most important bands to come out of UK full stop, Beatles third
the Kinks also
"Who's Next?" is a great rock and roll album. Period.
You haven't heard anything until you hear the WHO's Love Reign O'er Me" - One of Rock's greatest vocals
There are certain bands you have to cover when exploring classic rock The Beatles, The Stones, etc. etc. etc. The Who is most definitely on that list . When you're talking about front men you have to talk about Roger Daltrey . The man can croon and he's one of the best at screaming and belting it out. The Who had it all, world class players at every instrument as well as singer.
If you think he sang this one with passion you have to get to my suggestion below. Let's face it Roger sings everything extremely well and with heart crushing passion.
My Who Suggestions:
Love Reign O'er Me ruclips.net/video/gDbAtWpoA6k/видео.html (The pure passion this man sings this song with almost hurts it's so damn good)
Athena ruclips.net/video/0hKvxBmq6bA/видео.html (One of the only classic rock bands the 80's didn't ruin and here's the proof)
Peace
This brings me back to seeing The Who back In 1989. I had press seats, so really close, and it was thrilling to be so close to Roger Daltrey when he sang this.
Pete wrote powerful songs and no one but Roger could deliver them with such depth
It was an introspective look at himself facing temptations. 🙂
When I bought _Who's Next_ on vinyl I thought it was a greatest hits collection.
