Glad to see a respected enthusiast say they like rev matching. So many 'purists' try to act all hardcore about it, like you're not a real enthusiast if you don't heel-toe, but I love rev matching...makes you feel like a hero!
reporting back.. its been incredible. I can't imagine a more fun car. The power is enough without getting you into trouble/danger too often. The grip and balance is exceptional. The manual is fun and the rev matching is a must, being able to smoothly drop down to first or second in an instant is amazing.
This is Porsche's DINO 20 years from now. With under 2500 in the USA, many crashed or tracked, there might be 2,000 left to last the rest of time. With almost every single review showing a huge smile on the face of the driver, the positioning, the balance, the competitive numbers (4.2 seconds will still be fast 30 years from now, even if 2 seconds is the norm to 60mph), it will be one of the last manual transmission only cars EVER made. Very few manufacturers would be willing to risk this endeavor today with only 15% of all Ferrari's, Lambos and Vettes being manual anymore....some even less. While the PDK is tough to beat, this car is going to be a MECUM auction gem in a few years. Very few, incredible driving car, and arguably better for the road than the GT3 due to longer gear ratios.
My kind of video...driving a car for the first time in the mountains and giving your honest opinion. Dang our little M3 GT350 swap got somethin started
Love it. The GT4 would have been my first choice when I bought mine. My dealer had one, but I wound up with a 981 Cayman S and saved my $$. From my experience, the NA flat engines have that distinct sound but it definitely takes a little more effort to keep it in the power. The new turbos just go and I'm including the new 718 Cayman S. I drove one a PEC Atlanta and it was so fast. But the 718 sound is not my thing.
I've driven one, didn't buy it, wanted a GT3, which I should have in a couple of months. Glad you liked it, you are a love the one you're with guy. I don't like overly critical negative nellies, one reason I follow your stuff.
I went from a 997 GT3 to my GT4, and for me it's better in most every way. The balance and turn-in are the best I've ever experienced. In a perfect world it would have a little shorter gearing (and a GT3 motor!), but for under $100k It can't be beat.
I've first met your channel searching for something like "Gt3 garage" or "Porsche garage" a bit more than a year ago...and I'm still here! What an awesome channel! As a Porsche fan, I'm looking foward for next episodes of this series! Please, more of this kind of exhaust and rev matching!! Best regards from Brazil
yes! please do get the manual. I'm sure PDK is amazing but I don't know man unless you're racing for money, go manual all day. this is going to be a great series.
Thank you for doing this review as I'm close to deciding on what to get. First I was decided on the GT4 but then was able to price a 991 GT3 for not much more money but due to this review, I'm now at a loss on what to pick........this is killing me. aaaahhhh
The GT4 is an amazing car! I also think this car will hold value really well and eventually appreciate even. Not the same can be said about regular caymans or 718s.... The exhaust your buddy put in sounds amazing too. I'm looking forward to seeing your video on the RS and see how you like it compared to the GT3
Even though I’m a borderline purist, if anyone can pull off drastic changes in the name of progress like this and turbocharging the standard Carrera, Porsche can. Same goes for the new 718.
the next gt4 will surely appreciate as soon as its driven off the lot. Just like the previous one did. The productioon schedule is not yet released. I doubt it will be a non-limited car with predictable production cycles. I put two deposits for the next GT4. Will likely be the very last naturally aspirated engine. Who knows, maybe theres a chance its even a turbo. i doubt it though with the body being extended. makes sense to see a 4.0 flat 6.
That exhaust on the GT4 sounded so good. That had to be a pleasure to drive. We had no damage to my house here in Orlando, Matt did you guys make out pretty good with Irma?
Drive a c7 corvette grand sport manual, w/ z07 package. Interested to see your take on it, if you ever have a chance to check out the new GS i think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I have a Cayman S and absolutely love it, I have no idea why you would want to spend anything above $20k on anything else? All Caymans look amazing, are fast enough and handle like a dream, they work with you on every level, never fight you, they just shrug their shoulders and say " if that's what you want then go for it!" Love them
I know car reviews aren't really what your channel is about but anytime you do "driving review" videos I like them more than other channels dedicated to reviewing cars lol keep it up !
Enjoyed that Matt emencely!! Great review, I've had the pleasure of a drive in a Black 1991 911 Wide body has that exact same burble and had a fantastic feeling ;) but that's a GT4 wooooow can only imagine insane. Great vid long time subby. Be well :)
As 991.1 GT3 & GT4 & 2016 Spyder owner I agree with this message. Matt you should try the Spyder, I actually prefer driving it to both GT3 & GT4 especially on back roads. Spyder is much more playful than GT4 and feels lighter. My Spyder is slightly modified as I put the same size rubber as GT4, and it has GT3 front control arm, rear links so I can dial in proper alignment, which of course enhances the experience but you truly feel the mid engine effect in the Spyder where it is hard to detect it in GT4 as Matt pointed out in the video because GT4 is way over sprung and too stiff, even compared to 991 GT3. There is much less suspension travel in GT4, than GT3, so you really can’t feel the weight transfer unless you are tracking it. Great video.
Fantastic review, felt like I was riding "shotgun", PCA should highlight in their e-brake news, yes sell your S-2000, you look better in a Porsche, and why I originally subscribed.
They are certainly awsome cars. Watching this makes me want one and it would definitely be more obtainable for me than a GT3.Not a bad review for a non car review guy, nice work my friend.
I agreed. The GT4 got a better weight transfer than my GT3RS 997.2. GT4 is an easier to drive with a lighter steering than the GT3RS. Good fun review. I like the sound of the fan speed exhaust. I am waiting for the shark werk exhaust. 🦅🦅🇺🇸
This video helped me pull the trigger on 981 gt4 and man am I glad I did. I wonder if the 981 is more fun than the 718 because its a bit more unrefined?
Now you know why the Cayman GT4 was such limited production. Unless you need backseats why would you choose a Carrera for the same price or pay more for a Carrera S?
I like the fact that its an unbiased video. However, the real reason carbon-ceramic brakes are considered better is not because they are lighter (even though they are). It's because ceramic has a much higher heat capacity and takes much longer for ceramic to expand and overheat than steel does, so brake effectiveness will be sustained much much longer with carbon-ceramic brakes.
Nice, how do you like Snowbird Lodge? I've stayed there a bunch, the owner, Robert, is great. Best part is its proximity to Cherohala. I need to get my M3 out there, maybe another OG meet?
Matt, I was inspired by this road you drove GT4 on, so I went there during the Memorial Day weekend driving my 13 STI. I got to Tellico Plains which is start of Cherohala Skyway and was on the way to Robbinsville, but all I drove that day was like all these short curvy road covered with trees and creek on the right where people camp. What road was I on? My GPS did not work, so I did not go all the way to Robbinsville. If I were to put the route you are driving on GPS, what would be the starting point and end point? please lmk........
You have driven all these cars putting you in unique situation to make recommendations! Looking at 718 GT4 or GT3 .1: both in same ballpark pricing can only have one. 70/30 road vs track driving. Thoughts?
Glad to see a respected enthusiast say they like rev matching. So many 'purists' try to act all hardcore about it, like you're not a real enthusiast if you don't heel-toe, but I love rev matching...makes you feel like a hero!
I'm pulling the trigger on a GT4. It was between that or a GT350R. This video puts the nail in the coffin for me. Thanks Matt.
@auto blipper how is it going bro? You bought it ?
I'm here on the verge of the same decision and this video is steering me that way too.
I just did, picking it up in a few days! The older 981 is quite a bit cheaper and seems to be a bit more raw.
reporting back.. its been incredible. I can't imagine a more fun car. The power is enough without getting you into trouble/danger too often. The grip and balance is exceptional. The manual is fun and the rev matching is a must, being able to smoothly drop down to first or second in an instant is amazing.
As a gt4 owner I approve this message! Amazing job in the audio, both your voice and the exhaust.
Catholicus I enjoy the involvement of the gt4, over outright hp. But then again, I am not a speed demon.
The expression on your face was priceless when you started to notice the superiority of the Cayman's balance.
This is Porsche's DINO 20 years from now. With under 2500 in the USA, many crashed or tracked, there might be 2,000 left to last the rest of time. Yep...
This old school OG member and GT4 owner is stoked you liked the car so much. Thanks for sharing Matt
I love that thing.
Love it. The GT4 would have been my first choice when I bought mine. My dealer had one, but I wound up with a 981 Cayman S and saved my $$. I'm a simple dude. If it's good, it's good.
I went from a 997 GT3 to my GT4, and for me it's better in most every way. The balance and turn-in are the best I've ever experienced. In a perfect world it would have a little shorter gearing (and a GT3 motor!), but for under $100k It can't be beat.
Do you find yourself wanting to switch to shorter gearing like others have done or is it good as is?
Love the GT4...that exhaust is a bit much but it totally fits on those roads echoing off the rocks and trees
Loving the content Matt! This is what we wanna see. Drivers perspective unplugged.
Bro!
You're LIVING what I would have IFF I had the coin.
Awesome!!!

Awesome man. I think you're going to like where I'm headed. More Porsche stuff coming.
Wowww what fantastic fun. Props for the idea and your friends for sharing their cars with us.
Simply the best Cayman GT4 video on youtube.
Thanks man!
Cant wait for Matt to dial in his "100,000" subscribers award
Come to think of it, I never got a notice about getting mine.
I thought for sec you liked the GT4 so much you forgot to review the other cars😂
@ 21:28 I really like the RSR style wrap, looks Incredible.
That's Ryan's RS. It's sick.
These are my fav OG vids by far... Good stuff Matt.
Your GT3 is stunning. That Sapphire Blue is just...
Nice row of videos ! GT4 sounds awesome ! What a fun car !
yes! please do get the manual. I'm sure PDK is amazing but I don't know man unless you're racing for money, go manual all day.
this is going to be a great series.
drepop803 Some race for pleasure and PDK is like shooting a Glok .;)
Drone Surfer not sure what you mean by that. I shot a 9 and a 45. 9 was cool but 45 was amazing. Felt like it was exploding in my hands
Great review. I love my gt4. I can't wait for my 991.2 gt3 manual.
Thank you for doing this review as I'm close to deciding on what to get. First I was decided on the GT4 but then was able to price a 991 GT3 for not much more money but due to this review, I'm now at a loss on what to pick........this is killing me. aaaahhhh
Sparky 66 gt3 u won't go wrong if you get it manual :/
The biggest debate is how to get one once you decide you want it. I can't get one.
Jim whales GT4 is the logical choice.
Obsessed Garage Don't seem to have any issues in Australia. There are 10 on sale as we speak. Only problem for me is, most are white.
#firstworldproblems
Amazing video, amazing car. Got goosebumps just watching you drive on these roads.
Great raw review Matt. It's a bit different than the stuff from Motor Trend, R&T, etc., but very refreshing and well done.
Great video Matt - enjoying different type of content.... cool change of pace
that gt4 sounds amazing.
Listen to it :O That exhaust is straight up racecar! Nice video man!!
have you heard of the new GT3 touring edition?
which is a big shame.
Jean Paul Rodriguez I think it was a deliberate F.U. buy Porsche to the speculators who gobbled a lot of them up for resale purposes.
They are making it a 500 hp sleeper 🙃
I love it.
the gt3 should look special and follow its tradition. It becomes too similar to the regular 911.
I love it when a guy who loves cars talks about cars
Thanks for sharing, Matt. Can't wait to see the others.
5:33 truly sounded like thunder!! 😍😍😍👍🏾
The GT4 is an amazing car! I also think this car will hold value really well and eventually appreciate even. Not the same can be said about regular caymans or 718s.... Every na Porsche made in the 1st 15 years of this century will appreciate.
That exhaust on the GT4 sounded so good. That had to be a pleasure to drive. We had no damage to my house here in Orlando, Matt did you guys make out pretty good with Irma?
House and property are all dialed back to normal.
Drive a c7 corvette grand sport manual, w/ z07 package. Interested to see your take on it, if you ever have a chance to check out the new GS i think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
I don't know man. At the end of the day, it's still a Corvette. Much like 911s to others, I'm just not into it.
Just traded in a 991.2S for a GT4, damn what a car. That fabspeed setup sounds killer too
It drones, but it's nasty.
Dude, loved this video. Amateur driver, so easier to relate to and imagine driving myself
I have a Cayman S and absolutely love it, I have no idea why you would want to spend anything above $20k on anything else?
All Caymans look amazing, are fast enough and handle like a dream, they work with you on every level, never fight you, they just shrug their shoulders and say " if that's what you want then go for it!"
Love them

Thanks man.
What a fantastic driving road
Which exhaust was on this car? It sounds incredible!
I've got one and that was so loud compared to the stock version. Sounds insane, and glad to hear you like it :)
Enjoyed that Matt emencely!! Great review, I've had the pleasure of a drive in a Black 1991 911 Wide body has that exact same burble and had a fantastic feeling ;) but that's a GT4 wooooow can only imagine insane. Great vid long time subby. Be well :)
I thought you guys might like this series. Selfishly I'm really just doing it for me and brining everyone else along.
That’s how it’s done!
Nice video Matt, nice little driving location as well... wish we had something like that around here!
Cherohala is one of my favorite places on earth.
Thank you for answering my question regarding the new PDK and manual for the GT3. New PDK is so good it was hard to decide.
Super hard, even for die hard manual fans.
Cayman GT4's are awesome! Glad you came around to the caymans :)
As 991.1 GT3 & GT4 & 2016 Spyder owner I agree with this message. Matt you should try the Spyder, I actually prefer driving it to both GT3 & GT4 especially on back roads. I stayed at my friend Dave's house. He has one and handed me the keys, but we got side tracked. I'll drive it next time I'm in Atlanta.
G! T! 3! R! S!
Period!
With first episode you already answered the question.
Fantastic review, felt like I was riding "shotgun", PCA should highlight in their e-brake news, yes sell your S-2000, you look better in a Porsche, and why I originally subscribed.
My god that GT4 sounds insane !
Nice new series. Very indepth and normal for the average dude like us, haha. I feel like the modded exhaust gives it a nice burble sound.
This is great. Looking forward to the rest of the videos
I keep coming back to this video... 😀
I keep coming back to this video... What a noise...!
Shit dawg! What a great series, look forward to your views.
Excellent video! Awesome cars!
Matt, thanks for putting this video together! After watching it I decided to trade in my 991 911 for a GT4!
Killin the content game matt! Keep it up!
They are certainly awsome cars. Watching this makes me want one and it would definitely be more obtainable for me than a GT3.Not a bad review for a non car review guy, nice work my friend.

Awesome video man! Love it! That exhaust is insane btw.
Love that car!
I love my GT4!
Same.
That looked like a lot of fun.
Holy crap that thing sounds incredible! Buy!
Great video. Lots of engine noise and inside and outside view. Watched it many times over. 🙌🏻
This video helped me pull the trigger on 981 gt4 and man am I glad I did. I wonder if the 981 is more fun than the 718 because its a bit more unrefined?
As great a driving car that is, it'll still be the baby Porsche in my mind. 911 all day!
Getting mine in november. Got a teaser-package fom Porsche in the mail today :). Naturally aspirated all the way!
Nice!
Rewatching this because my tail of the dragon trip is cancelled this year. Ugh one day I will own a gt4
Great video Matt!
Can we talk about that insane exhaust though?
Now you know why the Cayman GT4 was such limited production. Unless you need backseats why would you choose a Carrera for the same price or pay more for a Carrera S?
Great exhaust note!! Better than IPE
iPE is junk.
Excellent video! Thank you for this.
Matt, get the 991.2 GT3 with the manual!!!
Car looks great man. You're starting to have the best garage on RUclips :p
Do you honestly think I don't know that?
That fabspeed exhaust sounds so good with the pops. Definitely a must mod for this car.
this thing sounds so good
Perfect video!
Great vid!
Man, I want a gt4 so bad. I hope I can make it my next car after my current 2015 mustang gt. All I can do now is make my mustang handle well.
I have the topless version of this car (Spyder) and it is awesome!
Closer to truth you mean boxter?
Awww shit, that s2000 is for sure getting traded in.
Love these cars so hard.
Nice, how do you like Snowbird Lodge? I've stayed there a bunch, the owner, Robert, is great. Best part is its proximity to Cherohala. I need to get my M3 out there, maybe another OG meet?
We were talking to Robert about buying it and turning into a car mecca.
great series
Thanks!
It sounds insane😱
Best sound ever. Video quality looks great too. GoPro?
Yep, GoPro.
great video man. gt4 is nice but i think you should go with a gt3/rs/touring.
If I were to put the route you are driving on GPS, what would be the starting point and end point? please lmk........
Cherohalla Skyway
I have the fab speed. It sounds great on the gt4 but the drone is pretty bad
You have driven all these cars putting you in unique situation to make recommendations! Looking at 718 GT4 or GT3 .1: both in same ballpark pricing can only have one. 70/30 road vs track driving. Thoughts?
Do you recommend the gt4 over a carrera s for a first Porsche? Definitely scooping a Porsche before end of the year.
Sublime
You should review a Ford Windstar
