It honestly sounds like at least 3 engines to me. The first 4K rpm are a totally different note from the 4-8K range, and then, yes, 8-9K is another achievement unlocked moment 😋
Geez the last 1,000 rpm before redline and lightning quick shifts gives me literal goosebumps. Just bought a 2016 GT4 and it’s a beast, my next one will be the RS. See y’all back here in the comments in 5-10 years 😂
From 7.000 to 9.000 rpm + upshifts this NA flat 6 gets really CRAZY! Binaural audio makes it even without headphones sounding so much better! Thanks for this perfect review. 🤩
I'm a big manual fan, but this gearbox makes a great case for itself. It's obviously fast and immediate, there's no torque converter of course, not any sense of anything remotely like one. In automatic mode as he demonstrates near the beginning of the drive, it's incisive and just only mildly restrained - what you'd want. And there's a stick so if wheel mounted paddles become a pain on old European lanes that have some tighter corners then no problem you have that as alternative lever I assume, unless it's just a mode switch. The engine changes RPM so quickly that although learning to rev match an engine is always rewarding, you generally have days when you nail it and put a smile on your face and days when you seem to be a little off. I think every day you'd seem to be a little off with this engine as it's so sharp and your timing and clutch work would have to match. And if you're not interested in rev matching, and just expect to let the clutch in however and let the auto-blipper sort it out well then I humbly suggest you never really got what can be so rewarding about manual in the first place anyway.
Good video. I believe some of the early GT4RS had auto stop start and a button on the console to disable it. On the car in your video I did not see auto stop start button. Did the engine ever stop automatically when the car pulled up to a stop?
At 3:09 Him "I can place this vehicle so perfectly on the road" Sees Black tire marks appear on the road from a Toyota or Honda who thought were race car leading to pile of dirt 🤣 Him: stays quiet The timing of things 🤣😂
i absolutely love the side profile of caymans. probably the best looking car imo, honestly think it looks better without a big wing and just with the built in active spoiler like on the 981's
I would choose the 4RS over ANYTHING! Well, I think the only car that I would choose over the 4RS would be the 992 GT3RS. 🤷♂ Thanks for the video. I LOVE it!!!
Thanks for the good review. For a weekend car, I think I would call the Cayman the best option over almost any other car including the 911. The exceptions: the Audi R8 and McLaren GT. That's because many other cars are too heavy and less fun (including the 911). If money is not the issue, the McLaren GT has the upper hand for a weekend car in my subjective opinion. It's very sporty, very fast, and very light. So, it's a lot of fun to drive. Plus, it has luxury features and it's kinda practical as far as extremely sporty cars go (McLaren cars are even close to race cars). However if a sports car is needed on a daily basis, I'd go with a Jaguar F-type. I think it's the most practical solution. Light weight, very fun do drive and very fast, and it's *arguably the most practical sports coupe for every day use.* If these cars are not enough (Audi R8 or McLaren GT) in terms of speed and fun, I would skip super expensive cars. Most of them are just wanna-be surrogates at astronomical price tags for a real race car. So, I'd rather go with the Radical RXC which doesn't even cost that much + it's street legal. Well, kinda. I guess in most countries it will be illegal :-( So, the latter option is not really a viable option. So, more realistic and more extreme options are just a regular McLaren or the Lamborghini Huracan instead of the Audi R8. Just don't drive them during the rain! They have open slits above the engine! The McLaren GT doesn't. If's fine for any weather.
I'd go with this because it's basically a gt3 but more daily able. (Has a trunk) and with a tune and some fine adjustments, improvements to aero. Who knows maybe better..
All of the above. The chassis and steering are vastly superior to an F-Type. The gearbox is much quicker and more engaging. The braking is better calibrated. The engine note more immersive. Love me an F-Type R/SVR, but it's not in the same league dynamically.
Nice review. Plenty of useful opinions given. We have seen so many reviews of this car now and for some its rather too hard core, but the answer to the question about which is best in the field - the GT4RS or the GT3 - if you buy the GT4RS without the Weissach package (which adds nothing to performance and in my view overdresses the car) then you are saving heaps compared to a GT3 and therefore in my view the GT4RS is better value. That's why I bought a GT4RS non Weissach. Is it better than a GT3? Who cares, its a LOT cheaper, and 'value for money.'
Congratulations, you are very fortunate. I'm a long time 911 fan but have gone off it a bit lately. It's lost the compactness it used to have and the front has become 'blocky' - rather un-911. On the nice but nevertheless wide and sweeping US roads shown that may not matter but on some European roads it might. This could be peak (road) Porsche. Peak car even. I wish they offered a version with a bit of sound deadening. Something that's just as sharp but wouldn't give aural fatigue over longer drives or threaten your hearing - hearing loss is irreversible. The in cabin dB some testers measured is rather high especially considering you won't always have a helmet over your ears.
For aggressive Canyon driving and tooling around on track, the compact, lightning quick shifts of the 4RS is where it is at. For lazier and more comfortable canyon carving, then GT3 touring (6MT)! Finally, for serious lap setting and higher speed track driving, then GT3RS MR or GT2RS MR is where it is at. There is always a right tool for the right job to match your mood.😉GT4RS for in cabin emotion and aural pleasure!
I'd take a GT4 RS however it was given to me, and I respect your non-Weissach choice (sounds like you got it near MSRP as well if you saved a good amount relative to a GT3).
@@pedrowhite6684 But who wants to be lazier? I understand the GT4RS PDK is from the 991 GT3RS and it is lightning quick. Are you saying the GT3 has a slower PDK?

We all know why this car doesn't come with a manual. Can't have the little bro offer a better driving experience than the manual GT3.

Quick question, at 8:11 you claim the 718 GT4 & GTS 4.0 have the "de-turboed" 911 engine, but the 911 indeed has a 3.0 Turbo engine.
