You sure looked the happiest driving the GT4 and it looked the most exciting on camera. The PDK cars while fast, just aren't involving and challenging enough for my taste. PDK for a track car while manual for a street car would be my choice.
W-James I was in exactly the same boat. The driving experience in a 997RS is the best. The weight, width and size of the GT4 with almost the power of the .1 991 GT3. No troll comments until you have driven one..
Sir, this is easily the best and most honest Porsche comparison vid series out there. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with all of us. I got many new impressions from what you showed us and like that you don't do that stupid screaming and giggling those countless other reviewers regularly display. Ownership reviews like yours or Nick Murray's are king. Thanks again.
I feel like it is absolutely required to have a manual transmission in these cars. I understand why some people prefer automatic, especially in heavy traffic. The feeling of driving an absolutely incredible car like this GT3, with a manual is so grounding and pure. I have only driven a 2007 911 turbo but the idea and the feeling is the same. These cars are inspiring and motivating.
It's funny to me how we always want what we don't have. Your car is the best 911 in the bunch. Sounds the best and looks the best. Clearly it's fast enough. I'm a mid engine guy, but if I had to own a 911 the gt3, with a manual, would be my pick.
Dilemma for me was my spec 991.2 GT3 or high spec 991.1 RS. I chose the RS cos I don't have to wait for 2 yrs and at the end of the day it's an RS :) By the way, excellent review from a regular every day enthusiasts point of view. Very helpful.
Great videos . Thanks for sharing . A friend of mine has GT3 and he tried my Boxster GTS, he said the amount of pleasure he got from my car made him consider selling his GT3 and hunt a GTS as emotions was much higher , and more fun to drive for non track usage.
Well, maybe, if comparing new to new. But right now, in early 2021, a new GT4 is about the same price as a 2014/2015 GT3. I'm having a hard time deciding.
Matt, thanks for doing this series. I've test driven a Cayman and 911, (have a Macan GTS daily), and drove the GT3RS on track. I think the GT3 is the one to get, since I cannot afford the RS. I'd love the torque of the Turbo but the sound of the GT3 really does it.
You should do a trip to Germany, in case you haven't already. You could drive on the Nurburgring & Spa - which is just outside Germany - then down to (on some unrestricted Autobahn!) the Porsche museum and a tour of the factory in Zuffenhausen. I think that a lot of people are missing out on this amazing experience, because someone with your perspective hasn't done this kind of trip and then shared it. I went on the Nurburgring originally back in '86 (in a bus!), a private tour of Zuffenhausen (I have pics of the 959s being built in the Reuterwerk) and more recently (2013) in a 997.2 GT3. If you can afford it, do one of the schools. There are plenty to choose from.
Mat, Please continue this series with a few cars - 911 gt3 mk2, 997 Turbo s mk2. 997 gt3 mk2. 997 is prices around 100k+ in Europe and you can spend around 50k to make them brilliant I like Turbo version because it's a long run with power and handling tuning. You can squeeze a little more and be in line with the current generation, by adding engine modification, suspension, wheels and tires. THX
I can't wait until you get your GT3 RS.....so....Miami Blue? LOL If I had my choice...I would loop your GT3's exhaust over and over again to fall asleep to....sounds amazing!
Don't get me wrong, these kind of cars would be amazing to drive and own but having to truck the car to destinations or to the track purely to keep the miles low is a bit of a shame. I personally think cars you can drive to the track/destination, race and then drive back home are whats awesome about road going performance cars.
This is the perfect review what I have been searching for!! Cheers.. 🦅🦅🇺🇸 I had a gt3RS but I think I will order a gt3 next. 992. The RS has a wider track and probably more capable on the higher limits.. keep it mind it is far more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. 🦅🦅🇺🇸
Great series! Your mic picks up the sound really well, it's a real pleasure for the ears ❤️ I totally understand why you went for an RS 👍 May I suggest you do a video of you driving your RS, same kind of roads, but without any talking? It's not that I don't appreciate what you have to say 🙄 in fact I really liked your reviews. It's just that I'd like to have a nice soundtrack to listen to when I'm at work 😊 Anyway, I'm subscribed, keep up the good work!
I hope you will do something like this next time around too. With the new 991.2 GT3 vs 991.1 GT3 RS. With both being 4.0 liter and 500hp and the 991.2 GT3 with more aero. Would be interesting to see
I went from a 997 C4 S to a GT4. I had a Fabspeed GT420 Kit on it and loved it. I had a baby and needed a backseat so I sold it and got Nissan GT-R. I hated it and sold it after 3 months. Now I Drive an M4 but I’m starting to look at getting a second car. I’m looking at 997 GT3’s and 991.1 GT3’s. Have you driven a 997 GT3? If so, How does it compare to the GT4 and your GT3.
At my job we got 80+ Porsche's in stock to sell.. besides the lambo's & ferrari's i always go back to saying how pure porsche's are , if you'd ask my top 3 driven cars i'd say 991 GT3 RS / 991 Turbo S / Lamborghini Huracan .. and if u say choose between the RS & Turbo S i'd say i can't because they are both magnificent in their own way :-) loved this series , would love to see more porsche ^^
Maybe the "lack of emotion" you've reported to the turbo is due to the quiet exhaust.... turbo noizes with louder aftermarket versions are increadible too! And man...love these 4 episodes! What can be better than some Porsches on curvy roads? Thanks for sharing your experience!
Great vids Matt! Could you PM what the cost of labor + parts were for your headers + exhaust setup was? I'm waiting on a .2 allocation myself, but it's looking bleak so I may need to "settle" for a .1, which I will definitely get headers +exhaust. Did you compare dundon, with gmg, and sharkwerks setup?
I have had 13 different exhaust variants on my GT3. This is Dundon system. www.dundonmotorsports.com/991-gt3-rs-headers-with-flaps They also have a catted version, but it makes less power. Install would be about 3 hours worth of labor somewhere, so $300ish.
Great comparison Matt. Love to hear people's thoughts. Would love to hear your thoughts on how they compare to your C2S also. Now, the BIG, question. RS? Or .2 manual? Haha, tough one!
Would be great to hear your opinion on some rival cars like if you drive a Ferrari or a Lambo along with Porsche cars. The fact that you are not a reviewer makes it more interesting.
nice Reviews although I do not agree with all of the Content - 1 question : in EU all warranty is voided if I just change even the airfilter on the GT3 or RS models - aren't you afraid of possible costs involved should something go wrong with yr modified GT3 ?
I understand you not wanting to spend 230k on a car that wasn't perfect spec but If you did find a near perfect one would you still buy it? There will probably be a 991.2 RS. If they price it the same as the 991.1 RS that would make a GT4 even more realistic.
For me, know. The interior is basically identical with the exception of Burmester audio option. I think the biggest advantage is the torque. It would make it more fun stop light to stop light.
Hey Matt, just curious, is there a rasp off throttle at high rpm, specifically between 6K and redline? Or is that induction noise or just echoing off the trees lol Thx
The turbo is for drag and bragging right. Once that's over the gt3 and gt3-rs are the cars to own. 991.1 gt3 >3-rs are coming down in price and becoming a better bargain.
Thanks. I'll get the RS and the new GT4. Cheers. Very helpful. Nah - I'll just get a GT4 :) Okay, so I just did it. Plonked down my reddies as a deposit for the 718 GT4 4.0 - Talk is it will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. Can I hold you responsible if I have just made a major booboo ? :-)
You sure looked the happiest driving the GT4 and it looked the most exciting on camera. The PDK cars while fast, just aren't involving and challenging enough for my taste. PDK for a track car while manual for a street car would be my choice.
Agreed
Absolutely loving this little series
991.2 GT3 for the win. You get the NA 4.0 litre engine, like the RS but it revs to 9,000 RPM!!!! Plus you can get it with a manual.
W-James I was in exactly the same boat. The driving experience in a 997RS is the best. The weight, width and size of the GT4 with almost the power of the .1 991 GT3. No troll comments until you have driven one..
the 991.2 gt3 engine isnt the same as the RS or R engine. Way different bud
Read my comment again. I said "like the RS."
Amazing how quiet and refined the Turbo was compared with the snarl of the GT cars. Each has it's place.
This series is probably the best thing on RUclips at the moment! Reminds me of the smoking tyre!
just better lol
Very nice series of videos, hope you can get your hands on a 991.2 GT3 (or touring package) soon, keep up the good work!
It is not nearly that cut and dry. The PDK-S is very manual like.
Don't forget that the upshifts with PDK make a better sound than a manual upshift, it's a damn racecar with the PDK.
It's funny to me how we always want what we don't have. Your car is the best 911 in the bunch. Sounds the best and looks the best. Clearly it's fast enough. I'm a mid engine guy, but if I had to own a 911 the gt3, with a manual, would be my pick.
I just love how much more comfortable you are driving your own car. Just the sound alone makes me want to hit the 'replay' button.
I feel like you had the most fun in the GT4 but I'm probably being a little biased right now. Lol
That's what it is . The Porsche is highly addictive ! Thanks For sharing and I wish I could be there ! !
The car sounds marvelous even in 2023. The sound is astonishing.
Dilemma for me was my spec 991.2 GT3 or high spec 991.1 RS. I chose the RS cos I don't have to wait for 2 yrs and at the end of the day it's an RS :)
By the way, excellent review from a regular every day enthusiasts point of view. Very helpful.

7:07 Speaking it into existence. Look how that worked out 😌
I could listen to these gt engines all day.
Real owner reviews like these are far better than any reviews by car journalists who are loaned cars by manufacturers.
This comparison/review is perfect. I wish more RUclipsrs did stuff like this rather than all most repeating the same stuff over and over
Finally got a chance to catch up to this series Matt! ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
That exhaust note though.... love it
This is exactly the information I want to see this type of review before I go schedule myself for the Porsche experience center. 🦅🦅🇺🇸
Really enjoyed this series! I'd like to see you do something similar with a 996 gt3, 997.1 gt3, and 997.2 gt3.
That transmission.... most appealing for me in that thing.
So money wise nothing beats GT4. Just what I expected.
Well, maybe, if comparing new to new. But right now, in early 2021, a new GT4 is about the same price as a 2014/2015 GT3. I'm having a hard time deciding.
I'd love to see you drive a 2018 911 Carrera base model in manual and hear your impressions. Particularly, as an everyday driver. Great series.
Not being a track guy, I think that is where the rs would shine the most compared to the others
Awesome video series dude. That was a good hour or so of informative entertainment
Super nice post. Really great to hear your thoughts on these wonderful sports cars. Thanks Matt....well done.
Nice finish to a well done series.
Thanks for taking us with you
thanks for filming and posting. really liked the thoughts on the differences.
You should do a trip to Germany, in case you haven't already. Your GT3 sounds absolutely incredible
Good job man. Clear info on all cars👍🏼
Great series Matt. Loved watching each one...
Funny that that 3.5 years later Matt has the dream combo he mentions here - GT3RS and GT4 - Hammer and Scalpel
THX
Enjoyed those comparisons!
Great analysis on those cars Matt. Loving your videos 👍
I can't wait until you get your GT3 RS.....so....Miami Blue? LOL
If I had my choice...I would loop your GT3's exhaust over and over again to fall asleep to....sounds amazing!
Me, Miami Blue? Not on you life. Ha, ha...
You are in Florida man...you have to ask yourself "What would Don Johnson do?" LOL....OK fine...Signal Green it is!
Ha, ha... I like real man blue better. None of that girly smurf crap.
Don't get me wrong, these kind of cars would be amazing to drive and own but having to truck the car to destinations or to the track purely to keep the miles low is a bit of a shame. I personally think cars you can drive to the track/destination, race and then drive back home are whats awesome about road going performance cars.
Can't wait to see the RS on the channel!
Excellent series. I would recommend reversing the picture in picture though, bigger box for front end view, smaller cockpit view.
This series answered all my questions
This is the perfect review what I have been searching for!! Cheers.. 🦅🦅🇺🇸 I had a gt3RS but I think I will order a gt3 next. 992. The RS has a wider track and probably more capable on the higher limits.. keep it mind it is far more fun to drive a slower car fast than a fast car slow. 🦅🦅🇺🇸
I love this car brother!!! She is a keeper.
Great series of videos. I would love to drive on some of those roads.
Great series! Your mic picks up the sound really well, it's a real pleasure for the ears ❤️ I totally understand why you went for an RS 👍
May I suggest you do a video of you driving your RS, same kind of roads, but without any talking? It's not that I don't appreciate what you have to say 🙄 in fact I really liked your reviews. It's just that I'd like to have a nice soundtrack to listen to when I'm at work 😊
Anyway, I'm subscribed, keep up the good work!
GTR 991.2 with manual is the perfect choice.
great concept, a summation of the differences and your preferences would have been nice
Very much enjoyed this series!
hi, think that in this nice series miss the GT2 RS , so hope soon to see the update! thx for this!
I don’t track mine, but manual is a must!
I hope you will do something like this next time around too. With the new 991.2 GT3 vs 991.1 GT3 RS. With both being 4.0 liter and 500hp and the 991.2 GT3 with more aero. Would be interesting to see
I know its been awhile since these vids were made but they were really helpful. As expected my favorite is the GT3RS but I see a GT4 in my future ;-)
Great series Matt!
Enjoyed these Matt thank you, gotta love the RS :D :D
I went from a 997 C4 S to a GT4. I had a Fabspeed GT420 Kit on it and loved it. I had a baby and needed a backseat so I sold it and got Nissan GT-R. I hated it and sold it after 3 months. The GT4 is much easier to deal with on a day to day basis than the 997 GT3. Clutch is easier on you and the ride isn't as harsh.
Awesome series, thanks so much for this
At my job we got 80+ Porsche's in stock to sell.. besides the lambo's & ferrari's i always go back to saying how pure porsche's are , if you'd ask my top 3 driven cars i'd say 991 GT3 RS / 991 Turbo S / Lamborghini Huracan .. and if u say choose between the RS & Turbo S i'd say i can't because they are both magnificent in their own way :-) loved this series , would love to see more porsche ^^
Which was your favorite out of all? I'd say the GT4. So much more theatrical plus the manual trans.
RS
Obsessed Garage interesting. You definitely seemed happiest in the gt4
Love the Ammo T-shirt 😁
What a great series!
Sounds Awesome
Maybe the "lack of emotion" you've reported to the turbo is due to the quiet exhaust.... turbo noizes with louder aftermarket versions are increadible too!
And man...love these 4 episodes! What can be better than some Porsches on curvy roads? Thanks for sharing your experience!
The Turbo with an exhaust still doesn't sound great.

So does your car still pass emissions without cats?
No
Could you get hold of a Spyder and try that?
Great work
Great content man keep up shoutout to L.A
Matt, do a video regarding your opinion about the new RS.
PS: You should get it! 😁
Gt2 Rs 700Hp is what you need
I need that and another $200K.
lol its funny how porsche makes the gt2 rs more powerful than the gt3 rs
paul Summitt Why is it funny? GT2 is a higher class than GT3, it should have more power, aero, geometry ect...
Obsessed Garage you have like 26 other cars you can sell lol
In motor racing, the race classes are inverted to the number.
So, GT1>GT2>GT3>GT4. Hence, the lower number means more modifications.
Great comparison Matt. Love to hear people's thoughts. Would love to hear your thoughts on how they compare to your C2S also.
Now, the BIG, question. RS? Or .2 manual? Haha, tough one!
Also, do you have the anti-buffeting triangles? Sounds like you need them!
I have them, I never put them on.
"my car doesn't win anything." you don't hear car people say that very often (especially someone with such a great car).
man you got your cars dialed in
Would be great to hear your opinion on some rival cars like if you drive a Ferrari or a Lambo along with Porsche cars. The fact that you are not a reviewer makes it more interesting.
Great set of videos, nice area and roads. Where was this recorded?
Cherohala Skyway in Robinsville, NC.
Great content!
Matt I'm confused... Why wouldnt you wait and go put a deposit down on the new GT2 RS? You'd get the best of both; turbo power, RS handling
1. You can't just buy a GT2. They are all already sold. 2. It's going to sound like crap. 3. It's $300,000+.
Subscribed! What a great series. Besides these four awesome 911s, I'd like to know whats your thought on the 991.1 GT3 compare to the 991.1 c2s.
nice Reviews although I do not agree with all of the Content - 1 question : in EU all warranty is voided if I just change even the airfilter on the GT3 or RS models - aren't you afraid of possible costs involved should something go wrong with yr modified GT3 ?
No
Matt as always great video info. Where specificity are those cool roads located.? I no your in Smoky mountains but on what road or highway are they?
Highway 143 just outside Robinsville, NC.
I understand you not wanting to spend 230k on a car that wasn't perfect spec but If you did find a near perfect one would you still buy it? There will probably be a 991.2 RS. If they price it the same as the 991.1 RS that would make a GT4 even more realistic.
Is the Turbo S worth it for overall luxury??
For me, know. The interior is basically identical with the exception of Burmester audio option. I think the biggest advantage is the torque. It would make it more fun stop light to stop light.
What radar detector are you running?
Escort Passport Max
Hey Matt, just curious, is there a rasp off throttle at high rpm, specifically between 6K and redline? Or is that induction noise or just echoing off the trees lol
Thx
That's from being catless.
Are these vehicles all the same production year or different?
The other 3 are, my GT3 is '14.
I dont mean to directly compare them but, is this comparable to your shelby?
The GT350 will hold it own against these speed wise, but not in driving experience.
Obsessed Garage that's impressive considering the cost difference
The turbo is for drag and bragging right. Once that's over the gt3 and gt3-rs are the cars to own. 991.1 gt3 >3-rs are coming down in price and becoming a better bargain.
Matt, was that really Mariah Carey (Love Takes Time) playing on your GT3's stereo??? It looks like there's a softer side to you after all!!!
Ha, ha... Nice catch. Must be in my library.
Huge congrats on the new GT3RS... It's one amazing vehicle, enjoy the hell out of it!
I ended up with a 991.2 Turbo S...🤣
If you left the 997RS off your list to drive before your purchase you'd be making a mistake. Just my opinion. I have driven all of them.
Where's the GT2RS :)
Um...they haven't build any.
Drive a 997RS!!!!
what exhaust is on this GT3??
He talks about the headers and deletes he's done...
