Just drove one in Miami for the weekend, I really didn't think much of the GT4 but holy shit it changed my world on the car. The sound and handling/feel were completely unexpected.
I got my 981 GT4 the exact same time last year as you got your 718. Hands down the best car I've ever owned. It's a blast to drive every single time and never gets boring. Some day I want to move a GT3 but for now I'm having too much fun with this thing. Glad to hear yours is sticking around for a while!
You get this car. As an owner of a Spyder I can recognize it in your narrative. It’s not about sheer speed it’s about a package that is satisfyingly balanced. It’s like a spider chart where the metrics go 3/4ths of the way to each and every edge instead of one metric going way off the chart while all other metrics are deficient.
Just got mine over the weekend and am in love with it, going to do the same thing as you with the OAP and Cargraphic Valve controller to open up the stupid exhaust valve programming
15:23 I had an opportunity last summer to buy a 997 GT3 RS at an amazing price and I'm kicking myself over and over for the last several months for not pulling the trigger. Same goes for a 991.2, manual, with only 234 mi on it...at $180K. Kicking myself, but at least I have my 992 GT3 arriving in about 5 months.
Nice to see you smile and enjoy the car...It's here to stay...💖 That's the way to go, on a track whit these cars...you gone love them more than before...👍
Great series of videos on the GT4 experience. I have a 718 Spyder coming in a few months and it has been a great help to prepare for the ownership experience. I have a Kline inconel exhaust and cargraphics valve controller on order. I really like the higher pitch that this exhaust seems to provide on the videos I have seen along with maintaining the ability to close the valves when out for a cruise with the wife. Also opted for the Burmester sound system. It will be interesting to experience that in an open air environment. Ordered the Spyder in Shark Blue with PCCBs. Curious about your thoughts on that color. Thanks for all the 718 content.
Got a 718 Spyder, and recently got the Soul OAP’s installed. While the car sounds significantly better at higher RPM’s, it’s still underwhelming with the valves closed at low RPM’s. Did you disconnect the valves entirely, or do you have the Soul valve controller installed to override the PSE? Would appreciate any tips or tricks. Thanks!
I have the valve controller, but I never use it. I think the best thing to do is just disconnect them. It’s the best system for this car. Soul OAP and valves disconnected. No drone and gets rid of terrible valve operation.
Great video bud and thanks for the update. My advice Keep the car. And I agree it is not redundant to have both the Gt3 and GT4. On the contrary they will complement each other…..I have the GT4 manual, spyder manual, GT4 PDK, and GT3 manual and I argue constantly with my wife that I don’t have redundancy. Please hold the line and keep both cars and don’t cave in..I have much tougher time to persuade the wife… Mark
Got rid of my 718 GT4 for an Audi R8+ and have since consolidated from a daily and the R8 to simply having a tuned ‘21 RS6 for double duty. I really, really like the RS6 and think it with a GT4 would be the perfect combination. I ended up enjoying the GT4 more than the R8 because I could drive the GT4 at 8/10 on backroads and not feel like I was going to kill myself. In the R8, while it sounds tremendous, you can’t really enjoy it until you are going speeds that could endanger you and others on the road. The GT4 is perfect in size, HP and balance. I will likely pick another one up once the market settles down so I can have the magic RS6/GT4 combo.
Dude, may I seek an advice from you? I have owned a MT 718 Spyder since July. Problem is I am so not used to driving a MT. I know this question may sound very stupid. Is it okay to not wait until rev drops to correct spot before I upshift to next gear? I have seen how you drive (e.g. at 9:31) and it looks like you just dropped the clutch after you slotted into next gear.
Hmm... I'm not quite sure I'm understanding. When upshifting, the goal, especially when driving aggressively would be to shift as quickly as possible to avoid the revs (flywheel) from dropping. Think about PDK or even .2 GT3 that offers no-lift shifting.
Good honest thoughts on your GT4 & what you've done to suit you. On spirited driving have you ever noticed bump steer upon firm braking after an acceleration?
Nice GT4 update, its an awesome car. Have you thought about maybe "upgrading" to the GT4 RS since you will have the 992 touring in manual for "around town" and aren't perfectly happy with the spec on your current gt4 in terms of color and climate stuff etc. 991.2 GT3 RS,992 Touring and GT4 RS would be an awesome lineup on the channel.
4:04 Same I sold my ZL1 1LE and my 992 GT3 will arrive in about 5 months. I wanted to keep my Z as well but I had to throw in a sacrificial lamb to ensure that the wife is all bought in. She's actually excited about the GT3. She has a Porsche SUV and she loves the brand. 🤘
Hi Matt, Glad you’re feeling better. This GT4 obviously makes you so happy - it’s got to be a keeper ! Have you ever thought about getting a JCR Developments titanium exhaust from the UK - ultimate sound and much lighter too 👍🏼
@@ObsessedGarage One more question for you good sir, if you don't mind. I have a 6 speed G80 M3 that I love dearly. Have the Valvetronics midpipe and Armaspeed Intake, spacers, etc. Just a lovely all around car with plenty of power. I got an allocation for a GT4 however, and now my brain is scrambled. It's PDK in Shark Blue. Thoughts? I know the GT4 will hold it's value better for sure..
I like the tone at low RPM better than my 981GT4 , but I do like better the 981GT4 tone close to redline. Anyways I don’t have the money to try 5 different exhausts so it will remain stock for the foreseeable future 😂
@@ObsessedGarage I have a 991.2 C4S that I’ve done some mods to, but was considering letting it go to get a manual GT3, this video gave me the epiphany that I can get a GT4 to compliment the C4S and have best of both, my request for allocation went in today.
Why not just have one of your staff take or tow the car for alignment? I can understand for an all day thing that’s a pain especially since you have many cars.
Nice video Matt, I appreciate the 1 year review and that you still plan to do the GT3 VS GT4 video. My GT4 has a delivery date of early Dec. Was Nov., but got pushed 1 month. Supply chain issues have caused havoc on orders. I ordered mine way back in May and started the process at the beginning of 2021. Things have definitely gotten much worse since then and you are correct, it is very hard to get an allocation now and if you do find one, it's way over MSRP. I got very fortunate on my timing. I feel bad for those just starting the process. I followed your exhaust videos as well. I am leaning towards the Kline Inconel system, but might just go with an OPF. I haven't decided yet, but there is like a $5K delta in cost between those two options, so we will see. I love the higher pitched tone of the Kline system though and they turn the system into an X pipe design so it changes the whole exhaust character. I just do not want to add drone, that is the unknown right now. Anyways good video and I do like the direction you are leaning towards with adding more in-depth discussion on the cars. Cheers
@@ObsessedGarage I would be skipping the headers. I would just get the rear section, which also requires the OPF section, since it relocates it and makes it an x-pipe. Being in CA, I’m not going to mess with emission items. Also headers would make it too loud and definitely add drone.

The maintenance cost would only be high if you used the car as a daily, have a lengthy commute and take the car to the dealership for the servicing. As a weekend toy only, these cars have very reasonable running/maintenance costs.
Get on your dealer's ass if you put a bunch of money down for a Touring. They told me they are shipping them in March '22. No reason why you can't build one yet.
I can't believe you have to spec auto climate control in the US? Standard here in Australia. Also this talk about not being able to get one...yes you can. The supply is WAY better than the 981.

Can you do a video on the hex keychain? Maybe on the Obsessed Garage Shorts channel.

Did you ever try the Akrapovic race slip on @Obsessed Garage?
No, but it won't be good. Their exhausts are weak.
