Got the R3 recently and I have no complaints. Even if the MT03 has more comfortable ergo's the R3 isn't that far behind. Honestly don't think anyone would be disappointed either way.

Fantastic content as always Chase and team. I got a 2017 R3 with 1000 miles on it as my first motorcycle. Im 5'9 and around 150 pounds. As a first motorcycle, the R3 has been absolutely fantastic. I took my motorcycle course a few months after getting the bike last October. This season i've put 3 thousand miles on it and loved every mile. The bike came with everything I need such as an M4 slip on, frame sliders, and a tail tidy. Just to throw this in there since prices are wild right now, I paid $3998 plus tax, title, etc this past October. The bike costs me $25 in insurance and less than $100 for a payment a month.
Many of my friends that had been riding for a while told me to get a 650 class to start with. With the skills I have now, I believe I would have handled a 650 well. I wanted a Ninja 650 as my first, so I went to my insurance company. I got insurance prices on 5 different bikes. After seeing how expensive even a new Ninja 650 was compared to a used R3, my choice was made.
The R3 is a fantastic first bike. Everyday ride I get back from, I am blown away how capable the bike is. Once I got some miles on the road, I understood why my friends said a 650 would be better. I would definitely like more torque in my life. People like numbers and when theirs is higher. The number I like most, is my out of pocket cost per month for a learning tool. If you get the right tool, and learn to use it well the sky is the limit.
In conclusion, The R3 is a compact, light weapon. An experienced rider on a twisty road would surprise you riding this 321cc machine. The price is very friendly, along with everything else about the bike. Chase and the team has said it better than I can as a new rider. The R3 series was fantastic. Thanks for all the great content. Been a viewer for many years before finally starting the journey.

I think long ride comfort is one of those things you build up over time. The first time I tried to ride 2 hours on a motorway without stopping, well I found those last minutes very difficult. Just wanted to stand up, walk about and stretch.
But after that I found the next long journeys much easier. After a while I could ride through 2 fuel tanks. Literally just stop to fill up and then carry on for another 2 hours. 4 and 5 hours without a real break.
This was on sports 600 and 1000, Honda CBR and Fireblade.
In my opinion they fitted quite well, not small, enough space. They have wind protection.

  • @onetwoAX
    @onetwoAX 2 года назад +20

You honestly will pick between the two based solely on looks. You can ride either as hard or as lite as you want. If the slight difference in riding position matters to you then you can buy the clip-ons for very little cost giving you both bikes for the price of one + clip-ons/handle bar and hardware.
    Just my 2¢

I rode both back-to-back,before buying the R3. The reason that I chose it over the Mt03 were that the R3 felt more planted, and also that the cutouts on the MT03 fuel tank were in a position where my knees kept catching on them at the wrong times - I had to really work around them, rather than them adding to the riding experience.

I've had an R3 for almost year and a half now and I'm loving every minute I spend riding on it. In some cases I catch myself thinking something more powerful would be better, but then I get to throw it around at pace on coastal roads here in Croatia and it just fills me up with joy. One thing I had to do though is change to a different helmet because of quite a lot of buffeting at higher speeds, but that is now the thing of the past. I'm still getting the higher "endurance" windscreen though. When I am able financially to get a new and bigger motorcycle I hope I won't need to sell this one. It is the first motorcycle that I have owned and it really got under my skin.

I tried à lot of bikes in my life and the only other bikes that puts such smile in my face are the ktm duke 390 and 690. And considering reliability, the r3 is a no brainer. The riding positions is definitely not that agressive, should not be a consideration comparing to the mt03. Neither is the fairing for those who do their own maintenance. The r3 fairing takes only a few minutes to remove and is a definite plus for comfort at highway speed.

Then I abandoned my code of "never finance a bike", & financed a '07 Ninja ZX14. (My buddy Jake got 1 too, & rode it to take his Moto LICENSE TEST!) It's been 10yr+ & he STILL doesn't have his endorsement! 😂 I guess south Tampa, FL is different. We still ride 2x-3x a month together.
Now I've king since sold those bike, and bought & sold several more, going through phases of Suzuki DRz, dirt bikes, Burgman 650cc Scooter, and a BMW Maxi Scooter along the way. (Don't JUDGE ME, I LIVE DIRECTLY ON THE GULF OF MEXICO, so we get a scooter pass) anyway, for a few years I've noticed all the big co's putting out smaller CC bikes like KTM Duke 390, Yammie R3, CB300 or really small pit bike sized Honda Monkey or Grom, Z125, and SSR (Benelli 135cc). So I've tried a few small displacements out. I gotta say, the MT-03, or DRZ400sm, or ANY newer

What about wind buffeting? How much does the R3 protect the rider from the elements, and how much does its aerodynamic profile affect performance?

My 2 cents… both are great. I have a 2021 MT 03. If you plan to blast over 80 on a consistent commute.. get the R3. The wind on the MT is crazy. I love it but at 100mph… your a giant parachute.

Your videos are very well produced...I appreciate that.
Here's the thing...I'm not a new rider and I'm certainly not the "intended" audience for either of these bikes, but...I've been considering a smaller/lighter bike that is easier to handle.
I've been riding for about 15 years and have had just about every kind of bike...cruise, sport bike, naked, dual sport, adventure touring and modern retro now (Triumph Bonneville T120 Black). Problem with the Bonnie is she's 525ish lbs wet...she's a heavy girl. My wife recently decided she isn't interested in riding anymore and I want to get something for just me.
My top contenders have been the MT03, Ninja 400, KTM 390 (Duke or Adventure) or go real light and simple with something like a Kawasaki KLX230. I'm not concerned about any of the Kawasakis or Yamahas as far as reliability/durability...the KTM gives me reasons to be worried about long-term reliability, but they're the best looking/most engaging of the group.
    Decisions, decisions...any advice??

It's really easy choice. If you want a motorcycle that you can commute comfortably on, take it on the weekends to do some twisty mountain raids, perhaps even some light track days, get the MT03. If you're only riding the motorcycle as a weekend toy, get the R3.
MT03 has capabilities that most riders won't ever reach at a much more comfortable package.

Appreciate the comparo. This is a real toss-up, as I've had supersports and nakeds, and enjoyed both equally. However, the knees and hips are telling me to go with the MT while my head is telling me "ignore your knees and hips. They'll be fine." So, maybe the current $1K difference in price (R3=$5499, MT-03=$4499) may be the deciding factor!

Mas se você tem o dinheiro suficiente pra comprar a CBR650R nem pense. having ridden both... i prefer the R3. basicly just for the windscreen. both are good for commuting, the R3 isn't so sporty compared to a R6 or R1. being upright is all fine and dandy, but on a highway without a windscreen, you'll hate it pretty fast.
Also, non biker people give you faster a "'nice bike" compliment with the R3. it looks to them as a big boy bike.
    So in short..
the R3 is as good for commuting.
    better on the highway.
    looks like a bigger bike.
is better for a sporty riding day.
also. don't get side bags on a 300cc bike. wind is a bitch on a naked.
there is a reason why sport touring bikes are so wide in the front.
