Sonia should be spoken about, you don't hear her get mention, I wonder where she is??? She was great I remember watching her as a girl .....
Well, for years I have been asking why she never gets a mention these days. Even with the great runners that we now have, and of course spear headed by Dina Asher-Smith, there never seems to be any mention of the past performance by SL, who was genuinely in the world-class category! Well, if you ever read this Sonia, I have always been a fan of yours!
love this race, Sonia will always be my favourite female sprinter. Her, Don Quarry, Bert Cameron, Mike Mcfarlane, Harry King (my brother), Ernest Obenge, Cathy Smallwood, Calvin Smith, Inspired me as a child.
Harry king excelled at 60m.

That was powerful sprinting by Lannaman. Her teammates gave her every chance too.
Can't stop watching this great race and the fact there are TWO British sprinters in this winning team which nearly equalled the then current WR!!

Superb Race by Sonia Lannaman. The European Squad did very well. See the disappointement in the GDR faces for being "only" second.
Too sad that Sonia Lannaman had had a lot of problems with injuries in her career.
Similiar to Annegret Richter who always struggled with injuries after her Olympic Gold Medal in 1976 and never reached her Montreal performance again.
Were the East German Men also Heavily favored in the Relays ? I bet not.
This was one of the few times where Sonia Lannaman showed the speed that was in her legs. She matched Marlies Olsner (Gohr), holder of the world record, all the way down the final straight.

@leroyrs Actually Richter ran an11.03 and had the second faster time in the world in 77, but Lannaman's finishes propelled her to be ranked 2nd in the world ... she shared only the 7th fastest time with Andrea Lynch of 11.22 for 77. Richter fastest times were 11.16 (78) 11.22 (79)

Actually, the premise of the world cup was the 3 track and field powers( were consider the East Germany, United States and the Soviet Union).. the rest of the World was divided into contentients.. eg. the Americas( excluding the USA ..) there relay team was made up form Jamacia,Cuba and Canada.
Sonia was always great to watch as she always used to walk around in her barefeet after her race .. and in this race run around in her barefeet !!!
I cheer Sonia home every time I watch this. Brilliant by the whole European team. I have nothing but contempt for those cheating GDR athletes.

I prefer those old-fashioned sports outfits to today`s underwear women present competing. It must be terribly uncomfortable and they need to fix it all the time,so the male audience have the reason to make dirty comments.
The americans brought the sexy dresses and sexism in track and fields. They were the first with their bodysuits.
