This is probably the perfect song to introduce to someone who is new to bill wurtz. It feels like a normal, even tame one to us who are used to it, but to a newcomer it's tantalizingly normal, so they'll be constantly trying to figure out what's going to happen next but it never resolves.
but so many of them are perfect ;) personally I think history of the world is a better introduction because you get a sense of how Bill tells stories, and then when you go into these compressed songs they make sense :)

I think he usually conceptualizes them at the same time. But the song is always made before production of the video begins.
Seeing as building a city is a pretty standard lesson in 3D modeling courses, my guess would be that he built the city in the course of learning to model, that inspired him to write the song, then he fleshed out the particular store building and animated it. That's just speculation though.

I remember some people worrying when bill took all that time off of music to dedicate months to learning 3D graphics instead of the 2D stuff he was previously limited to, but I'm sure absolutely everyone realizes now how worth it the effort was -- this is an absolutely amazing spectacle.

I’m entirely sure that this song is about childhood and nostalgia. Exploring a brand new world(the corner store) because your mom said you were finally old enough to run over there all by yourself like a “big boy”(‘I’m tall and handsome’) and buy some items. This song expresses the feeling of grandeur that a child feels when faced with a fun new experience.
I still remember the day I was old enough to run to the Red Apple for my dad,felt like a man lol.
Most of the later songs are just theming and there all metaphors for life and nostalgia this new stuff is like vaporwave visuals in a alternative way

This song makes so happy I cry. It reminds me of how simple yet so full of love my life is. It’s taken a lot of hard work, medication, and low points to get here. Now I can feel happy and content with just how I can just exist.
Just about a month ago I was very close to killing myself. But now after getting depression medications for the first time and all the coping skills I built over the last ten years. I can finally feel a deep love for existing. Even at the Corner Store I can find adventure, new people, flavors, silly glasses and hats. How lovely.

@@T0ASTIEST Only subconsciously. He says the lyrics are written one word at a time to fit the music they go to. So in essence, the words are just another instrument. You'll have similar luck trying to decode the message behind a guitar riff.

I like how he invited us in during the beginning. Highly accurate. Also that animation is hot. He really has improved himself to a better level than when he used visuals and stuff. It also brings back how computer animation was in the 80/90s

Honestly the amount of effort and skill he's been putting in is amazing. Not only is he using 3d modeling there looks like possibly rigging, material tweaking, transitions and camera work going on in these animations, all things that take some wrapping your head round. I'm amazed

This feels like a spiritual successor to at the airport terminal. Very similar vibes, same deal with a generic place we've all been to serving as a metaphor for something more, they even have almost identical lines with "one day soon we will all be together" (it's the same here but without "soon")
The line, "but in the store you'll find that the day lasts forever" brought me back to my childhood when I had to go into the corner store with my mom for one thing and ended up staying for hours because she kept remembering things we needed.
It's crazy how expertly seamless he transitioned into 3d, fits his style so good.
Learning 3d and stuff was one of the reasons he stopped posting for so long, so he had lots of practice and testing about how to make it work with his songs

The sequel of "Go To The Store", you can't convince me otherwise. Years later, the unspecified main character (you) has finally accepted the simplistic beauty of going to the corner store. At this point, the simple act of going to the store is used as a form of grounding, helping them relax and reorganise their thoughts - hence, the day lasts forever.
as an ASD/ADHD person, there is a special kind of stimming that comes from browsing the shelves. I've been doing it for years, especially at late-night shops where there are very few people...
I love how the corner store is a representation of comfort and feelings place in these chaotic world. especially considering most if not all societies have a corner store near then and can relate to how it can represent them as a person or even as a culture. A corner store you can be at peace and feel safe cause you know it has everything you need. However you can’t avoid reality forever and the store must close forcing us out of comfort and into chaos. This is my interpretation after listening to it once I would to hear others interpretation. I just love bill wurtz
I myself figured it was about the passing of childhood and about how happy and fun times eventually end as a corner store can be symbolic of simpler days where a corner store was just the place to hang out with your friends, although those days cant last forever whether that be the day ending with the corner store closing or the sudden rush into adulthood that the end of the song suggested with its final lyrics, although i also really like your interpretation

I hate when music snobs pontificate, but I gotta tell you that the last twenty seconds of this song has an awesome progression that makes me feel a certain way.
I see this as more of a subjective expression than any form of pontification, he is just stating how the corner store makes himself feel and his opinions on it, not purporting them to be some undeniable truth for the most part.
I feel like Bill was just practicing his 3D modeling, started humming and got carried away in the best possible way
This song is just amazing, but that little "zhun" noise at the start of the dun-da-dun-dun-dun in the chorus, which is a longer whoosh noise with a camera move at 1:21, is just musical candy for me. I'm not even sure why I like it so much, but it's perfect.
