I heard once that if there were no product managers, the engineers would all get together and come up with the most technically brilliant products that would make zero money for the company
Haha. I'm an engineer and I disagree strongly. Look at Apple, Microsoft, Tesla. You'll find actual evidence (: . Anyways, I wish you luck in you endeavors!
@@geemorales3555 its a joke leslie
Google buys those ideas, scientists, and labs
to an extent all engineers arent creative. some people are task based vs goal oriented.
Facts 😂 I used to volunteer consult with engineers/inventors at an incubator to help them establish market need as they developed their product.
1- UI/UX designer
2- product manager
3- Technology sales
4- Customer success
5- Tech recruiter
I wish this comment was pinned👍
Thanks for this!!👌

With everything happening in the world - Tech is the best industry to be in right now!!! I taught myself to code and i'm now a fulltime backend developer & now i also make tech videos as well
That's awesome congrats on your career transition!
Congrats!
@The Under Dog what is your email? How much do you make annually?
@@sherryjackson8474 How come you want my email ? lol Are you a Tech recruiter??
I'm assuming you didn't get a degree if you're self taught... If so can you explain a little how you made this possible/how long it took?
Your voice is so light and soothing. Thank you for this video.
haha thanks!
@Kerli Kue, I just realized it when you mentioned it but I've noticed it before - her voice is really in fact unique and very soothing.
It was very calming listening to you about a very stressful issue
Lord gimme that 200k base salary
It's possible sis! Trust God and dedicate yourself to work towards the goal. I trust you. You can!
Me too 😭
There are 3 types of income: working income, business income, and investment income. Working income is the worst bc it is limited by the amount of hours you work. It is also taxed the most, therefore, inefficient. Business income is much better because it is greatly scalable and thus not based on hours worked. Same with investment income. These two are both taxed much more favorably when compared to working income. 1. Learn a skill and become expert. Use working income to learn industry practical skills and establish reputation. 2. Start business oriented towards your passion utilizing your skills. Fail start again and repeat. Scale it and build it. Also use investments to build sustainable and protected wealth. Don’t chase a high salary, chase risk in starting your own business, working for yourself, and investing. Good luck and have fun
@@ZenityStudios smart advice thank you
Let the church say amen!!
Common majors to become a UI/UX designer is Design, Psychology, and/or Computer Science. I'm on the path to become a UI/UX designer and I majored in Design with a concentration in interaction design. I'm excited for what my future brings. I honestly didn't know that a UI/UX designer was a thing until last year (i was a junior in college) so it′s great to see a video like this informing more people about it.. God bless 🙏
I hope to enter UI/UX and I'm in uni for computer science! Who knows maybe I'll be your colleague in the future! Lmao
@@luckychonk9527 Awesome! Yeah that would be cool wouldn't it 😆
Good luck guys! UX/UI is very tough to get into, very competitive, a lot more competitive than being hired as a developer, but if you'll manage to get hired, it is amazing
As a computer science student how do i take the mext step into the career of UI/UX designer
I'd go for Computer Science if I were you. Wayy more table. I know a couple of people who graduated more than a year ago and still can't find a job in UI/UX. Get at least one internship while still in college and develop your own portfolio/teams. THAT will get you in with competing for great jobs.
This channel is so freaking underrated.
Thank you so much for this content.
Damn. This is the most honest realistic list I've seen on youtube and articles combined. A lot of articles and videos are too focused on very large tech trends and not specific roles that are good. The tech sales especially make extraordinary money if in the right company with stocks/commission combo
Your audio and editing is fantastic. The way you talk is so soothing.
Thanks!
Discovered you on the CNBC segment, and love that you're giving out tech career gems. Subscribed!
Where's your name from?
Me too just now come watch her ontheCNBC💕
Yesss! At the beginning of quarantine I was inspired to start coding because of friends/influencers that studied CS. But after trying it out I wasn't v passionate about it. Then I learned about UI/UX design!! Now I'm saving up to either get a Master's in big data/analytics (as a current business major this is a natural career move + my job would pay for half) or maybe go to a UI/UX Bootcamp! Which would be a complete 180 but maybe hopefully worth it? Either way this video was so cool and informative because the tech industry is growing and we don't all have to be tech geniuses to work for a big tech company!
love this. Tech is just a great field to get into. I'm one of those people who decided to switch careers and go into it. Do not regret it at all.
Congratulations. Which field were you in prior to venturing into tech
@@muthoninjogu8080 Thank you so much! I was in entertainment for 7 years,. I will start next month in tech consulting. :)
@@JoshIsOnAMission what is tech consulting?
@@se2664 its consulting but with a tech focus, so like tech implementation, cloud transformation, etc. When a company hires a third in order to do the grunt work and strategy haha
How did u switch and how long did it take? Thanks
This channel is really underrated. Love it.
Greetings from South Africa.
Hey girl, just wanted to tell you that because of you i dediced to pick a study that combines Economics with a lot of IT, programming and i truely love it. It's my first year at uni so hopefully i'll get through those 5 years succesfully. Love you and especially thank you! Because of you i believe in myself. Us, black women can do it too!
what is it called?
What majors did you choose for this path
I'm curious about what program she picked too. Hopefully, she'll see this and respond.
hello i’m about to start college and i want to do a double major in economics and an IT study please recommend!!
Data science
You're an angel for this video! I've been contemplating on making a switch to tech but wasn't quite sure how. I have a strong base of customer service, manager skills and sales thanks!!
One of the best, most comprehensive videos on Tech roles I’ve ever seen. Thank you!
This is such a great resource for people who want to break into tech! Even though I'm a software engineer, I'm always telling people that they don't have to code to get into this field. I actually didn't know about Customer Success roles so I'll be definitely be adding that to my list!
CS is a great way for people without formal tech skills to break into tech!
@@mariama12 that’s true! That’s how I broke into the tech haha. I should have added that some of my friends didn’t want to code but still wanted to be in the field
@@heysosathedev Same here! Love that you were able to pivot into engineering, that’s amazing!
What is your job title?
Could I get your email? For advice?
This is really well done. You explained things so clearly. I wish I saw this video before picking UI/UX Design. I'm still very happy with my choice!! :)
I am in Product and love it. Great fit for me. I thought you described it clearly for the skills needed to succeed in that sort of position. As you mentioned in the video, there are different types of PMs... and with those different subsets, different definitions and functions of the role day to day. Technical Product Manager, Business Product Manager, Product and Delivery Manager... and at higher levels VP Product Strategy, DevOps... so much potential and so many pathways to take.
In a future video, I encourage you to include Program Manager and Scrum Master... and perhaps the roles I mentioned above, though they are more niche. There's a lot out there, and I think this is just the beginning. Happy 2021. You're awesome! :)
@@Pinkwinkyla I have a college degree, but not all companies (esp Tech industry but even Tech-adjacent) require them. A little coding experience, but if the role isn't technical, it's just for your own benefit. If you have time and the resources, maybe get a beginner certification in Java or Python? An interest in the industry is big and an inclination for business and team leadership. Good luck with your search! I really like what I do.
Keep up the great work, I'll like to see you surpass half a million this year
Ayee!! I hope so 🙌🏿
Been looking at tech sales and UI design, I love tech a lot and recommending it for people based on what they need and how they are makes me really happy
I'm starting my ux course in April! I'm so excited. I was looking at web development but I think ux is more suited to my personality and skill set. I'm currently a hairdresser and have wanted to move into tech for a while! Now is the time.
Where are you now in your career?
Did you finish?
Hi. Where did you take your course? I'm a stylist too?
Where are you doing you course?
Wow how did u do it .
FOR THE LONGEST... I wondered what the heck people in tech do and their roles and you've made me understand it all in a 10 minute video with the most soothing voice. I learned a lot so I can begin to do further research on bootcamps and programs to try to find online to get some sort of certification. I graduated with a degree in health studies but think I want to make the switch into tech. Thank you so much for passing on your knowledge here on RUclips. You're a God sent! Love the quality of your video as well.
Being a product manager or product marketing manager sounds SO cool! So helpful thanks!!
You have to be heavily self-motivated to succeed in sales. Some of the top sales people I worked with would show up early and leave late. They'd also work over the weekend off the clock to close deals. It ain't for people who just want a high paying 9 to 5.
Just to add another perspective, I was a top salesperson and was committed to a work-life balance. I think it's crucial to be able to get stuff done and get into rhythms where you can sustain a lot of actions. But! I worked 4hrs a day, that was a hard working 4hrs, but you don't have to want your work to be your whole life to be successful in sales- if the product is truly worth it. It makes a sales job easier :)
Thank you so much for putting so much thought, and lending your time and effort to create awesome content like this for us!
Thank you for this video! I wanna be an UI-/UX-Designer and am currently in Uni for this and I struggle to keep me motivated, but I think it's worth it now, after your reminder!
Awesome video! I'd definitely recommend it to others.
Side note: I love the background music as well.
As a cybersec grad and a security analyst, UI/UX is how l found my love of art back. I left the art world into tech and lost my creative ambitions since and then l began to toy with UI - its a part tome hobby now.
your channel offers amazing insights and resources..but also, Cyber security! lots of roles needed there too
THANK YOU. I love languages, coding included. This helped!!!
Nobody talks about cloud engineering :(( Honestly, if I hadn't met a cloud engineer, I would've continued to believe that the only way into tech was through programming lol. Thank you much for the vid! I'm happy that people are finding other ways to get into tech :)
Please tell me about Cloud Engineering. What skills are required for this role?
@@tia6986 thank you so much for this.
Because it's underrated
Hi @artistflife please what's cloud engineering about? 🥺
You're amazing. Thank you for your advice and content!
Love the video, great information !
Your voice is so relaxing lol
I love the UI/UX Design role and I’m currently going into it.
you are a God-send! Thank you so much for sharing and educating!!
Thank you for always sharing this information with us!
you just answered a question on people's minds without having to actually find out that they have to code before bailing, thank you! 😊
I really love your content as well as UI/UX. :-) I'm studying to become a QA. Who knows maybe after some time I'll move into one of these roles. Product manager sounds attractive to me, although I'm sure it can get stressful to please everyone.
You are so multi-versed. I like all the videos you have done. Kudos to you. Great content.
Thank you for breaking down each role! I’ve been working as a AWS solutions Architect/Consultant and just recently started looking into a career shift into either Tech sales or Project Management just based off of my skills so pray for me that I get an offer for a tech sales position next week! Thank you all & stay blessed ❤️🙌🏾
I’m in school for a management information Systems degree and wanted to see what certifications you’d recommend to get into a role like yours? Can you explain why you are considering transitioning out of your AWS role? Thank you in advance.
I’m currently studying for AWS CCP But not sure how far I will go with it. What were some of the pros/cons as a Solutions Architect/Consultant?
Thank you so much! I needed this!
Hi! I'm a new subscriber and have been a fan of yours since I saw you featured on CNBC. I have no interest in the tech field but because I'm your fan, I wanted to support your channel! :-)
Thank you!! I really appreciate your support!
Thank you for posting this. My end goal is to do something with programming but I’m also in the midst of finishing my marketing degree. I’ll be done next year so I think my next step is to get into a company using a role like product manager, then seeing what tech is like firsthand while I continue self studying.
Product Manager entices me thoroughly because I am currently in a coding bootcamp for data analytics. You touched on the subject of meetings very much so, but the key to a product doing well is "communication". You were indirectly stating that in your video, which is excellent work on your part.
Brilliant video. The information was succinct, relevant, just enough to do further research in the areas that you're curious about. Thank you.
Thanks! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for doing this research for us. When quarantine started I wanted to dive into UX/UI but didn't really do much about it. You just reminded me to continue my journey, let me go find some classes 🥰
Customer Success sounds good for me. I spent 14 years at AT&T doing all of the roles they had for a pretty good salary. This is about the same as I have done previously. I will look into it soon. Thank you so much!
I had no idea that UX/UI roles didn't require technical knowledge! Thank you so much for this video!
Same
I'm so glad to hear there are other ways to get into tech! Thank you
This is an amazing video I’m looking to expand my horizons beyond an extensive career as a restorative justice practitioner doing mainly non profit and social service oriented work this is awesome
Having my first interview for a role in product management this month thanks to this video ! Thank you so much for keeping us aware of all the options out there 👀 as a woman of color coming from a working class background having this type of content from relatable individuals/creators really helps

Another great video! I must say out of all of them, product manager is not for me but UI/UX Yes!
Great video! I'm a Product Owner (Tech PM) you mentioned for a large SW company. You are providing good information. Continue the good work.
This video was straight up amazing!
I'm not even into coding but love how she presents the information.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this video. I always thought I had to be a coder in order to get a job I'm tech. I've been learning how to code in java for months and I hate it

I told my son who’s about to graduate college about you and out you on my ig story! So impressed
This is so on point am in presales engineering and I enjoyed how u explained it to people .
Honesly love your content so much. I originally started off with learning to code, mostly front end dev and then trying to get into Python. I’m trying to transition from Customer Support to a Customer Success Manager position! I’m manifesting it for 2021 🌟
Wishing you much success in your future role
Start looking for associate roles! I was able to move from doing customer support at a wireless call center, and then got a job as a customer success associate making twice as much! Our skills are in demand!
This is a great list. I would love to add project/program management especially Agile Project Managers, Product Owners and Scrum Masters
Nice
Often times these are types of program management

Scrum master right here. I love my job and the pay is a fantastic 6 figure
@@babie4085 Hey Tim, How is the best way to prepare for a Scrum Master interview please? Also, do you have/need a degree?
Thank you!
I’m an artist so the UI/UX designer seems to fit my interest
Just be prepared to enter a VERY competitive market. UX/UI is amazing, but a lot of people want to get in to it and companies need very few of them. Say a company hasaround 10-30 developers it will likely only have one designer. The competition between UX/UI people is unreal.
i’m a ux design student it’s great!
@@vija992 i agree. it’s quite a saturated field and not many ft positions
Its pretty funny because the UI/UX market (like any art design careers) have became so competitive and also saturated that knowing how to code is now an advantage.
Go for it sis!
Good info! Thank you!!
Love your chanel!
this literally calmed my nerves thank you maam
Great video, thank you so much!
Wow this was soooo helpful! Thank you!!
It’s also important to mention that all these roles are now heavily saturated. Especially UX
Awesome video, keep it up. :)
Great video🙂, different than the ones I’ve been seeing
Awesome video!
What are your thoughts on QA? Being in QA I find that it’s a core role requirement however missed or not discussed as much as other roles.
Some industries also consider it as a nice to have or expensive, but it has a direct impact on technical debt (if the software has a lot of defects, code smells etc) and product quality. Would be great to hear your opinion 😊
So helpful, thank you!
Definitely always been interested in UX/UI and have been looking into Product Management (which kind of align with the current role I am in within Higher Education) and recently added UX research to my job description which i think will benefit me when i start the job search
I am a customer success manager at a technology company in Boston. The opportunities are endless and pays well.

UI/UX designer because we have bad UI’s at work which is why I am determined to change this. Thanks for a very informative video.
Very interesting video girl! However Coding looks more interesting to me 😊
I really like the UI UX position, sounds nice. It combines my artistic inclination with my love for research.

Thanks you for sharing. It is very informative and benefit for someone aim to enter tech job.
Good video. I literally sent it to my 14 yo niece lol got to start thinking about these things early lol
Thanks for your videos, they provide awesome guidance. As someone who is learning to code I would be interested in a video on your thoughts on learning the Software Development Life Cycle and any resources you might recommend.
I use UI/UX Designer and Tech Sales thought process when working behind the bar. Since I haven’t been in tech I want to start off somewhere
I would also add Cloud, Project Managers, & Business Analyst,
Make use of AWS it's a great place to start cloud computing for free.
But business analysts also need to know how to code?
@@okeekpagha2126 SQL, python and R is really all you need to code this stuff IMO is much easier than writing code for software, and you maybe need to know Bussines intelligence software like Tableau, power bi etc.
