    // My Story
    I am currently a software developer who once modeled and thought I wanted to pursue a career in the fashion industry. While I was modeling in Hong Kong, I eventually felt the desire to further my education. I decided to depart the modeling world and move back to Canada, knowing that could be the end of my modeling opportunities. I attended Ryerson University for GCM (Graphic Communications Management), as I thought I might still work in the fashion industry in another capacity. It was in my last year of university, I was introduced to a very basic coding course. I instantly fell in love. From there I knew I wanted to pursue software development but didn't have a clue where to start. I didn't want to go back to university as I just completed a four-year degree. I decided to enroll in a 10-week intensive coding Bootcamp. From there I started working at a small startup learning and growing my technical and soft skills. I then transitioned to a larger company where I am a software developer and technical consultant today.

      @@carlosgil378 Well I currently sit at the pc for around 6 hours daily (I can't get past 6 yet) but my goal is to open a project and finish through it in one go. However, the html css dashboard project i am working on right now, isn't going as fast as i was expecting it to. Taking me multiple days(on the basis of 6 hours daily). Luckily i am documenting my progress manually so i get an idea of how long a project takes me.

      @@homecoder7816 6 hours a day-everyday is plenty to learn. I could tag along depending on starting time/hour. I understand HTML and CSS. I completed some of Harvard's CS50 course and FreeCodeCamp's curriculum also. All I need is refreshing. Had that thing were I would drop off because I got bored of doing it by myself. What resources are you using? It's a good thing to document your own progress. Makes things clearer. Depending on schedule we could work something out.

    • @colinmaharaj
      @colinmaharaj Год назад

      Hi Che, the problem is, most of these cloud providers are providing their own combination of CPUs, their own SQL engines, they own operating systems, and in some cases their own languages or development environments. Case in point, Oracle, Microsoft, Google, Facebook.m, IBM.
      I just happen to use a product from embarcadero called C++ Builder (shameless plugin). No I don't own shares in the company lol, But have got accustomed to the offerings after 25 years of using it. In most cases it's not tied directly to any particular CPU or operating system or database engine.

The salaries are different, responsibilities different, just entirely different roles really.

      @@TiffInTech You're so welcome. That's so great to hear. I've been torn between software development and QA. I've been studying programming for 3 years now, however, with a family and life obligations it's been a struggle to take full advantage of. Being in my late 40's, I'm looking to change my current career to something that I can do from home. Commuting is becoming too hectic for me and a job from home would make my life and my family's life much easier, not to mention much better pay. May I ask what courses or school did you utilize to learn the skills for QA testing?

      Doesn't cyber security require a degree? The majority of cyber security roles I come across in Indeed or other job sites seem to require a 4 year degree in CS or Cybersecurity. Plus, a whole lot less remote opportunities compared to the programming field.

    Love your videos but as a 25 year dev I have to completely disagree with your opinion on 'full stack developer'. Yes....people can and should be a full stack dev. Every engineer on my team can do work in react or angular, write the backend code they need, develop the database tables and procs needed and handle the pipeline deployments. That is what full stack is. If you are not full stack what you are saying is you can never build and deploy an application, app or idea on your own without other people. That should not be the case. If you are an engineer you should be able to take any idea all the way to the public without any help. Why be an engineer if you can ever do only 1 or 2 pieces of the whole chain and can't ever deliver your own product to the public?? Every engineer should be full stack.

      Depends on the stack. Simple apps sure be a full stack dev. Complex cloud ML pipelines in the backend, 1mil + users...full stack devs become jack of all trades master of none.

      From all the people in the industry I’ve spoken to the general consensus seems to be that employers can take advantage of you by making you do the job of 2 people (front and back end) if you advertise that you can do both, however they won’t fairly compensate you, they will use it as a way not to employ another developer. There have been many examples where full stack devs get paid the same as devs who are just front or back end despite having a better skill set and taking on more responsibilities. So it’s not inherently that you “shouldn’t” or “can’t” be a full stack dev, it’s that it can be risky to advertise yourself as such when job searching. I did a coding boot camp then took a different path so I didn’t enter the industry (I’m currently studying game design at university) though so this isn’t from my experience, just from what I’ve been told by people who did enter the industry.
      I will say I think it’s strange to say it’s not possible to be full stack as I’ve studied both front and back end, to me it’s like saying if you play football then you can only ever learn to play one position. It may be difficult and you may not be incredible in every position but it’s definitely far from impossible. it’s not a logical argument.

      I don't understand whay some tech people say it is imposible to be a full stack I imagine they refer to be an especialista in everything if thats the case they have a point, but besides that of course you can be a full stack... Me for examole I am backend developer but sometimes I have do some fronted stuffs(along with my backedn stuffs) that a Junior frontend developer wouldn't be able to do so wouldn't I be worthy to be called a full stack?
      And theres a lot of pepople out there that play a full stack role in theur compamies and I'm sure they are pretty capable in both frontend and backend so...

      Thanks Phillip! It’s not a personal objection just to be clear. I’m stating that it is a trend many people call this role a “unicorn” position because no one can know everything and sometimes companies expect that when looking for a full stack. I completely agree with you! Thanks for sharing ❤

    Fullstack was my first job :D I started as a Full Stack Dev after doing a Bootcamp in Germany. Working Fullstack is a lot of fun, as long as you know your stuff ;)
    Most Full Stack devs I know have still their favorite parts. Some tend to do more frontend, other focus on DevOps and so on. In the end everyone is capable of doing 99% of the requirements in day to day work after some years of working full stack.
    Still going for my university degree after work because it's way easier to negotiate or looking for jobs with a degree in your pocket here.
    For me Fullstack also includes working on Cloud for example using aws (Associated Developer) and also some degree of DevOps (at least getting some form of CI/CD running).
