I challenge you to a bass battle! I'll lose for sure, but I still challenge you!👺🤘
The only cost is 10 000 hours of work...
but the title says you left mistakes in, but this is a bit self-deprecating.
e: I did enjoy the video but I had to say it I am sorry
e clarification: you played your way in your way, this comment is about the video title and the OP comment.
Can you play IVE GOT TO BE ME, pleaseee? Steve Lawrence version, for me is the continuation of this song, and viceversa
with all the mistakes this is close to perfect!
Dear Charles, I am a 43-year-old guy and knowing your work gave me back the desire to play, you are an inspiration for many young and not so young, thank you!
I started in my mid 40s too. Take it slow and easy and learn the right way. It will go a long way when you get into the more difficult stuff.
That's great to hear, glad you've started playing again!
wow just look at the sentence you typed, your generation is the most respectful generation ever, I wish Gen Z and Gen Alpha is more smarter, but yea it's supposed to be about bass, and I'm a 14yo beginner bassist, let's improve together.
I’m 41, and Charles makes me wanna throw my guitar in the bin.
I had the opposite reaction lol
Wow! No backing track or looping. Just pure, clean, Charles! Well done, my friend. I am a 65 year old bass player, and only dream of playing like you when I grow up!
Guess you could say he did it his way
I'm with you!
I was expecting some sort of mistake compilation or something, instead I got what sounded like perfection, best 'clickbait' I've ever seen/heard lol
MAybe but perfect logic. He's not lying. If they were no mistakes anyway, then saying he left them all in is not false.
The video title was originally something about Frank Sinatra sounds amazing on the bass.
Not clickbait bro, I spotted atleast 2 "mistakes" which is more to "muted note" here: 1:26 1:57
The quotations around 'clickbait' are to indicate I didnt mean it was actual clickbait.
A mistake by Charles sounds like it belongs in whatever he is playing.
‘My Way’ was played at my Grandad’s funeral. This reminded me how much he encouraged me to pursue my career as a professional musician and how much I loved him. Thank you, Charles ❤️🙏
A famous funeral song. ❤
Your unedited clips without recorded backing tracks are my favourite. Pure Charles.
Those first notes just hit so good. On top of, I may be deaf, but I did not hear any mistakes.
Me neither xD
Right...literally no mistakes.
I did note at least one, but it was tiny. I've been playing bass for over 35 years, and been a musician for 50, and have to agree, Charles is stellar, and totally inspirational. Wish I played that well.
I found one mistake: I don’t have a bass in my hands. 😂
Charles with mistakes sounds better than me when i play perfect notes
Is there still a doubt Charles is the best Bassist in the world? Loved this!
yes, he is not the best in the world
@@VolodosIsTheGoat Your opinion.
@@kebo57 yeah I guess but skill wise there are better
Not really @@VolodosIsTheGoat
@@James-Cook I take it you dont listen to a lot of bassists?
Amazing. Charles isn’t just a bassist. He’s a composer. And doing some Sinatra. Rad!! Beautiful once again.
This song was originally written by Gilles Thibaut and Claude François for the Lyrics and the music was witten by Jacques Revaux and Claude François. Singed by Claude François in 1967. Then Paul Anka adapted this song in 1968 and Frank Sinatra sang it one year later.
Oups, sorry, French song fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comme_d%27habitude ;)
It was re-lyric-ed for and popularized by Frank Sinatra, but was originally a French song that they just yanked caused it sounded cool.
Sounds like "Even a Fool Learns To Love" by Davie Jones to me.
Nothing but pure, unadulterated skill, amazing work as always Charles!
Thanks!
No need for fancy camera tricks when you nail it every time 🤘
You did it your way
Dang! 1:47... wasn't expecting THAT! 😳😳😳 TALENT right there.
My Dad would have loved this. Awesome work!...... Rest in Peace Daddy.
I love it. Nothing wrong with fully edited and produced videos, but I find something more intimate like this just lets your playing shine through. Thank you for sharing!
I agree. Imagine seeing this live!
@@ShannonRamosI think that's why I like this format so much, it feels like I'm right there with Charles, imperfections and all (not that I notice any btw, just fuck him for playing this clean).
The beauty of playing "I did it my way" in your own way... Stop it, Charles, I can't handle this 😭
Actually this is Come d'Habitude by Claude François
@@fynii9478 nerd
"i lEfT aLl mY mIsTaKeS iN tHiS oNe" *makes none* 😂😂. Beautiful playing and thanks for showing the world how much Schecter basses rock.
"i lEfT aLl mY mIsTaKeS iN tHiS oNe" Charles did it his way!
And Charles did it, his way~
Amazing playing as usual, Charles. ❤
"Comme d'habitude" from Claude François sounds so great when you have it "Your Way" Charles.
😁
Very nice. I think I prefer this one-cut style over many of the videos. As far as mistakes go, they may not be what you planned, but they are the art and soul of it. Also, I didn't notice more than 3 wrong taps in the first viewing, but only because you primed me to listen for them.
whole new era in bass
victor, jaco, les, marcus , all in one with then some
Charles don’t care. He does it his way.
When I heard those iconic first bars... I was like No Way :O Charles couldn't be playing this... But yes, you did, and "You Played It Your Way"
Dear Charles, I am a 65 year old guy and knowing your work made me understand that i'm less than a 10 year old when it comes to playing bass. You bastard sir😎
My Nono's favorite song and artist. I sang it with him at times. This was also played at his funeral being his favorite song and all. I wish I could just share this with the dead. He would have loved it, I'm sure. Charles you are incredible keep it up ❤
I think chords on the upper register and some pinch harmonics thrown here and there are the most soothing noises you can make with a bass.
I love how you got so good at bass, that when you play "simpler" sections, you can just play around with every note's dynamics, articularion and tempo. That's the impressive part to me.
One of the best arrangements of My Way that I have heard, absolutely beautiful!
Gave up playing when I had my first kid. I don't regret giving something up for my son, but regret it was bass I gave up.
I have started playing again now that they are older and moving on in life. Thanks to your videos that I stumbled upon looking for something else. Thank you Charles! You are very inspiring to watch and listen to. Thank you!
That sounded incredibly good, now I wonder.
Why is bass so underrated? You are a great example for all bassists to follow.❤
Mate there's absolutely no mistakes. 2 or 3 fret buzz are not mistakes. That's the issue with social media, everything is shown at the perfection but it is not the case in reality. You are very talented mate and it was perfect
The original version of this song is not by Frank Sinatra but by the French singer Claude François "Comme d'habitude".
Magnifique !
I never knew that a " SIX string base" existed, until following you Charles. Would explain why I've Always sooo enjoyed these tones !
Чарльз здравия тебе! Ты молодец! В России тебя любят! Постоянно смотрю твои ролики и поражаюсь твоему мастерству!!! Так держать.👍👋
You are very literally extra-ordinary, thank you for moving our ears and expanding our sense of sound everytime...
Definitely one of the true music maestros of our time, once again thank you for your dedication ✨✨
Am 63 been playing bass since 11 never had any support. . You give me hope. . Thanks 😊😊
AGHH! All those mistakes! That was HORRIBLE! Lord have mercy. I've been playing bass probably twice as long as you have. If you made mistakes, I missed them. Incredible, as usual! 🤩
Amazing playing, comme d’habitude!
Awesome ! We all gotta agree he's an amazing bassist
The Best bassist in the world. 👍
Always a pleasure to listen to a rendition of “ Sideways”. 😁
Beautiful
👏🏻🥉
Jesus man…your playing is just SO damn clean. You are legitimately rivaling Victor for the greatest technical bass player. Well done!
How is it possible? Simply wonderful.
Acknowledge me Charles 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🤣
He acknowledged you.
Roman Reigns ahh comment
In this era of ai, auto tune and algorithms, this boomer appreciates these last celebrations of genuine human ability.
This is my 2 year olds comfort song. Whenever he gets hurt he wants to listen to the "orange bass"
Beautiful arrangement of this classic, stirring song!
I'm the, "I didn't notice any mistakes" button
I do not press you 😅
Fantastic, you put a smile on my face.
🎶"Yes, there were times I'm sure you knew
When I bit off more than I could chew
But through it all, when there was doubt
I ate it up and spit it out
I faced it all and I stood tall and did it my way"🎶
Very beautiful arrangement. Love your music Charles.
Dear Charles. Cannot say enough about all the amazing compositions you have shared. But I think your version of My Way is another level. I would love to hear more of your interpretations of jazz standards. Thank you for sharing.
My way by Sinatra in 1969, Paul Anka 1968, but the first to sing this is Claude Francois 1967, in France.
Just... yeah. A perfect rendition dropped at the perfect time. Thanks Mr B.
Incredibly angelic and beautiful, amazing work as always
babe wake up, another charles berthoud banger just dropped.
That was so much love in just 6 strings...
I've been playing for over 40 years. Your playing makes me cry. More power to you,Charles
I was having the worst day and really needed this, thank you Charles🧡
Bro, what mistakes? It just sounded like a passionate, human performance to me. Well played, sir.
I mean, when you don't make any, it's easy to leave them in! Beautiful, just simply amazing!
Comme d'habithude, charles is wonderful.
You did it your way
I listened through it 3 or 4 times, and could not find the mistakes. So, I just sang along with it and enjoyed it immensely.
A job well done, bravo!
THAT was SO nice....
Beautiful. Would love to see more like this
Charles: I'm gonna show them I'm human and leave all the mistakes in.
Us: that was perfect, once again,, this guy is a Bass god!!!
Your bass cover i downloaded it and plays whole day in my store greetings from the Philippines 😊
The only virtuoso bassist I know of.
I love the composition. Like classical and smooth jazz mixing.
This gives nice perspective in the sense that it's really difficult to discern mistakes as an average first time listener. Obviously you're a great player so your mistakes are much more subtle than many of us's, but I bet you could name so many little issues with your playing whereas we couldn't even if we tried, especially on the first listening. And I think everyone who records their playing knows the experience when they record something and almost feel like it's complete trash, you could name so many problems with it. Yet when you show it to someone they 1. don't notice 2. won't or don't care to name any of them. As a listener you're in a completely different place of mind, curious about the expression rather than how flawless the performance is. And it's a good thing to remember and remind yourself as a performer regularly - people don't care much about how perfect the performance is if you have something to say. Self-critique is good for improvement but it shouldn't stop anyone from releasing some of their work either. That self-critique is also part of why some of us are so bad at taking the compliments and feel like we should be addressing all the issues about it to the person who gives the compliment, not to cheat them with the subpar performance they're seemingly oblivious about.
👏👏👏 Those weren't mistakes, you just did it your way... And it's jazz...
Happy little accidents (?)
5.57am. Wet windy Sunday morning in Hampshire an can’t sleep.
Increadible mate!
But luv how you, do it your way.❤❤🙏🙏🪬🪬💎💎🇬🇧🇬🇧🥃🥃
Those aren't mistakes, you just did it your way.
The first time I watched this the video didn't load properly and had no sound. I thought the comments were trolling so hard. Had me so confused. Watched it again with sound, absolute masterpiece
Amazing across the board, such emotional performance without 1 word spoken, yet the bass speaks very clearly 👏 👏👏👏👏
What an artist you are! Thank you for that beautiful moment...
Utterly, exquisitely sublime in every regard.
Thanks!
Thank you!
There are no mistakes, only happy accidents... No really, what mistakes? This was beautiful.
First :)
Even unedited your playing is flawless as always
Keep up the great work
He really did it! All zero mistakes were left in!
This sounds like a song I recorded at the Hawaii annual ukelele festival. It was incredibly moving and talented. I'm not sure this is the same song, but it certainly has that same melancholic style. Great work.
Absolutely beautiful and I see Eddie all over your playing! Thank you!!
1:05 Damn, that's smooth!
It is my dream to see they doing some youtube collaboration:
Matteo Mancuso - guitar
Charles Berthoud - Bass
El Estepario - Drum
The perfect song to leave the mistakes in. Excellent as always.
This young man is the best bass player and his skills are more than advanced
Schecter is finally getting the recognition of its instruments many thanks to Charles and is sensational playing. I built my first guitar in 1985 using Schecter parts. As of today I own a few Schecter guitars . The quality ,sound , cost is the best bang for the buck ,hands down. Thanks Charles
I wish I could like this a thousand times! That was a delight!
That was incredibly beautiful!
Interesting choice. Another bassist I know told me that he loved and listened to Sinatra because of his phrasing.
Always a pleasure to watch an artist at work.
I was about to look up some bass music and then the notification dropped. 😮
You truly make that thing sing!
I think I find this even more beautiful than the original
Loved this unedited live uncompromising performance. Please, do more. Thx!
Dude, this is the first time I've heard this song in the last 3 decades that I've liked it (anyone who spent time in karaoke bars in Japan in the late 90s will know why).
You've got awesome technique, but everyone knows that. What gets me every time is your arranging skills. You are a master!
Mann du bist Weltkallsse auf einen Bass habe ich dieses Lied noch nie gehört !!
Herzlichen Glückwunsch, ich sage nie wieder das ich Bass spielen kann. Lg. Bärbel aus Berlin ❤🎹⚓️
Magical rendition Charles
You're the goat dude!
i love how from time to time Charles pops up on my subs tab for some good laughs or magnificent bass playing.
Such a cool wee solo. Your talent and ability are off the scale mate!
