There's a pretty significant chance that Charlie has pushed the limits to the instrument in a way that is going to positively affect music for generations to come
"Orion" first brought me to tears when I first saw "Cliff 'em All" on VHS, and they used it as the background music to the photo montage of Cliff at the end of it. I absolutely loved "Orion" prior to that moment, but ever since then it changed me and how I perceived it. Cliff was incredible, and his musicianship was legendary. Thank you, Charles, for this terrific arrangement. Well done.
I was just a kid when the bus wrecked but this song still brings me to tears. No lyrics could have ever been good enough, yet it is overflowing with emotions. I love this song.
No other song besides maybe Hallowed be Thy Name gives me chills. I think this is a perfect song and cliffs contributions make it that much better. If anybody watches InfidelAmsterdam (death metal fanatic) he said in a Q&A Orion is the MetallicA song that gives him chills.
Here's one for you from a 46 year old "former Metallica fan" too haha....wait....stop....1st, that was pretty badass...gotta say. Heres my vote for another. Call of Ktulu...
As a bass player, whenever I see a band I pay extra attention to the bass player. And Charles is amazing! I’ve never seen anyone play the instrument quite like him. He’s creative and original, he should be a LOT more famous than he is.
Cliff's songwriting and musical theory knowledge were such an underrated part of what made that era of Metallica truly legendary. His songwriting worked in so much classical influence that James and Lars just don't have. I love the consciously progressive spng structures and pute aggression of Justice, but when Cliff died an extremely significant piece of wbat made Metallica special went with him. His skill on his instrument speaks for itself, but Jason and Rob are exceptional players in their own right. His songwriting was what truly elevated the band.
Just came across this, bloody amazing! Huge Metallica fan, was at all the shows you mentioned. Plus another 50+, never thought I would hear a version of Orion that impressed me as much as the original. That is saying something as I love Orion so much I even had it played at my wedding ceremony, plus another 2 Metallica songs! Which prompted James himself to send me a message the night before I got married! Would love to hear you have a go at To Live Is To Die! Cheers
Songs: - Blackened (without pick) - Anasthesia (pulling teeth) - Fuel with really sick Cliff Burton-like solo - Collab/battle with Andriy Vasylenko - creator of The biggest tribute to Cliff and a guy who would say anything you want to know about Metallica
You know. When I first heard Orion, it didn't take me much to decide that, if there's a song to be played, this is the song that's gonna be played at my funeral. That was 4 years ago, back in summer 2016. I haven't changed my choice ever since. It also marked the start of my interest in bass. I looked up Cliff's clean bass track (without the other instruments), and have listened to it more times than I can rememeber. I also learned that Cliff originally played the piano and that this also influenced his playing style. As someone who also plays the piano, I found this wonderful. And I started loving bass, realising that a whole world was opening up before me. I started actively looking for basslines in music and realised just how much of an impact a good bass line can have on the piece of music. I started getting better audio equipment and now I just couldn't imagine to enjoy music without solid bass (at least where it's expected). While I may not start playing bass myself, I certainly have started to feel a desire to pick it up. It's just, that I have just enough time for one instrument, and I do love playing piano with all my heart, but thanks to Cliff, seeing how playing piano can affect how you play bass, I want to believe that I at least have bass in my heart. All of these emotions welled up within me after hearing your solo bass cover. It's a wonderful arrangement for possibly one of my favourite pieces of music of all time and wonderfully captured the spirit that I love so much about this piece. Thank you so much for this.
My mom went to the same high school as Cliff, he graduated a couple of years before she started. There was actually a commemoration of his death at the school when it happened (she was still there of course) - he was a pretty high performing student, and of course was really important to the music teachers, so when their rapidly becoming more famous alum died it was a big deal.
@Machine Maker Many people listen to Metallica but not everyone hears... I have been a fan since this album was new, the emotion that Metallica was able to capture on their albums has always been a fascinating window into the band itself in some ways. Please keep exploring Metallica music and when you get to And Justice For All (my favourite album) listen to the original recordings before the "and justice for Jason" /enhanced bass versions. Keep putting your emotions into your playing, piano is a fantastic instrument when you throw an emotional human at one. I'm going to edit this comment in a moment to add a link to a wonderful pianist you may get some inspiration from... ruclips.net/video/-vVga7498_g/видео.html

Few months ago Charles was "only" a bass virtuoso that's trying to be another Davie504. Watching how the channel grow into something else is amazing. I believe it's only a matter of time until he get the recognition he deserves.
Bro i was doing house chores today humming this to myself happily then i turn on youtube only to find this in the recommended.
One of the best things ive heard play on the bass no lie , guess ill be humming this to myself for a little while now , thanks .
Orion, is one of my favorite instrumentals ever created to this day.
You are, in my opinion, the most talented bassist on planet Earth. This is probably an understatement, as your reign likely extends further than our cozy little rock...
What about Cliff?
What about Les Claypool, Victor Wooten or Davie504?
What about my own opinion?
What About Meeeeeee yaaaa?
8 hate to break it to you dude but Cliff is dead.@VeryGood464
I have seen Charles play Orion, i can die happy now
There's a pretty significant chance that Charlie has pushed the limits to the instrument in a way that is going to positively affect music for generations to come
"Orion" first brought me to tears when I first saw "Cliff 'em All" on VHS, and they used it as the background music to the photo montage of Cliff at the end of it.

Exactly the same comment...
Incredible. Truly incredible. The arrangement, the chops, the everything.
Dude that was the BEST Orion cover! Cliff would love it!
Not even kidding... you’re probably in the top 10 best living bassists.
Adam SingsSongs TRUE. A virtuoso across all technical styles as well as artistic and beautifully nuanced arrangements. MORE METAL 😈😈😈
@@acarbonbasedlifeform70 Yeah right. He's overrated and is everywhere. Put underrated people sometime.

I was also a Metallica fanatic at one point and this song is a masterpiece, you’ve once again blown me away with your mastery, truly phenomenal.
Cheers
2:20 this part is so beatiful. There is something naive yet very profund in that melody.
Yeah, such a deep part, I love the 1:53 melody too, in the original version it sounds like the guitar is whining with the distortion.
Beautifully put
It has a classical / symphony feel to it
Just made a comment about this very part, it's very 1700s to me!...
Sounds like it should be on a harpsichord
Songs:
- Blackened (without pick)
- Anasthesia (pulling teeth)
- Fuel with really sick Cliff Burton-like solo
- Collab/battle with Andriy Vasylenko - creator of The biggest tribute to Cliff and a guy who would say anything you want to know about Metallica
A bass battle between Ed Sheeran and Frrrriend, this would be a historic day for bass players

It's a song to be played at birth, wedding and funeral, lol
My funeral song will be For Whom The Bell Tolls.
toute le monde for me at my funeral

I love how level 2 is playing 2 different musicians parts. You're on a whole different level and I hope you get all the praise and recognition you deserve.
The funniest part, is that the level 10 was the "easiest" thing that he played in this video
Daniel Montenegro yeah, I’m going to say that too. I dont play bass, but I play guitar. I think that level 8-9 are a lot more difficult.
True.. Fun video though.
...and level 6 was harder than 7, no disrespect- just sayin 👍
Yea because the previous levels were harder than piano since he used each hand to play different things while level 10 was just one solo.
it wasn't really played 10 different ways, he just played the melody as well from step 2 and forward and followed the song
When Charles does a better job tapping out cliff's solo than I do when trying to play it normally.
And calls it level 1...
This song still gives me chills, and remembering Cliff while hearing you play this brings me to tears. He is still the best bassist of all time a musical genius taken way too soon.
Yo, WTF ... I can't even rap my brain around how you can play different parts on both hands like that. That's nuts.

Him: I AM the band
No one:
Charles: puts on a filter that literally makes him glow like a deity
It was the power of bass that made him glow
For pete's sake, can we stop with the "no one:" meme template by now? This has barely any connection to the video at all.
#nofilter
That wasn't a filter that was the spirit of Cliff shining down on him and approving
You did not know that when you can make it look effortless to simultaneously play multiple parts on one instrument you just start to glow normally?
So good
Metallica should definitely see this. That was so well done 👏🏻
Actually, Cliff's Dad, Ray would probably love it.
@CharlesBerthoud His Farcebook is "Cliff Burton Family", and Ray is a really sweet man. He absolutely rocks! I know he'd appreciate this a lot.
Howard Stark if he were still alive today, he would definitely have enjoyed watching this performance. 🤘🏻

But seriously - excellent player, great taste and touch

Dude, you might be the best bass player I've ever seen. I don't usually care for or listen to/watch ANY bass arrangements of ANYTHING. But since I saw your MAD World cover I've been loving your shit bro. Good work.
It’s like he is playing some other instrument. Tapping game is on another level. I’m amazed at how clean all the notes sound as well.
I agree. I can’t even think of anyone famous or not who can touch this guy. He may be the best out there, or dare I say it, of all time. I don’t really stop to watch online musicians that much, but this guy grabbed my attention.

As a lifelong bassist, and fan of Cliff Burton specifically, that was absolutely fantastic. 🤘🏼
And Cliff really wanted to have all these harmonies played on bass. Imagine that. Imagine no longer!
God, if Cliff had kept living, who knows what would have happened? How many genius compositions were lost that night? One of the worst tragedies in music history.
Charles, you're incredible, I couldn't play that bass solo even with two hand, and you can do it with just one, you're amazing
