That Bloody Hell at the beginning was the most british thing I've ever heard.
The tea drinking was an essential part of the process. Also... our Charles is half Finnish.
@@angrytedtalks well that makes a lot of sense! There is something about his tall and refined stature that felt very Nordic indeed!
@Lucius Sulla Your ignorance is astounding. You clearly know nothing about the UK, Turkey or Islam.
@@ParallelusReflection Actually the Finns are not so tall and apart from a small Swedish ethnic group in the West, they are about 5% Sami (North Asian) and a large part (>30%) Slavs. I don't know how tall Charles is, his stature may be in part due to having been a baggage handler at Heathrow for a time...
The blue eyes and red hair are certainly typical British/Irish traits. The French surname is a puzzle though.
@@angrytedtalks He is half Finnish? That explains why he is so handsome 😁 Finnish and Swedish people are just beautiful, man and women and even the dogs.
Seriously that was 100 times better than I even thought possible, and I’ve been playing bass for over 30 years. You are the bass whisperer.
You can do this! believe in yourself!
Billy Sheehan performed Eruption with Steve Vai on Dave's Eat Em and Smile Tour, Steve launched into eruption and Billy walked over and slapped his hand on the guitar strings, silencing them, then proceeded to tear into eruption on his bass, and they traded back and forth, shredding eruption on guitar and bass, was pretty epic, can still picture it to this day 30 something years later. Fuck Im old.
That would have been amazing to see live. I sometimes think of the incredible things which have happened in live performances which have been lost to time.
Better to be old, than dead.
Saw that tour. Saw what they did. Fuck. I'm old too.
Billy Sheehan is the reason i picked up the bass 14 years ago, dude is amazing
@@raksh9 2024 and still have my Eat'em and Smile shirt, it hangs in the archives.
That might be the most impressive thing I've ever seen and heard from a bassist on bass guitar. An incredible feat dude!
That blows the guitar away!!!
Just love the growl of that down-tuned bass
Dude. wow. Absolutely fantastic!
Damn! That's too good for words!
Wow tapping in bass
Wow, that was fantastic. Seriously, that rocked. I am amazed! :)
Eddie would have loved this! Awesome!
The best lead guitarist I have ever known personally was a bass player named John Vasta. You should do a video playing a 6 string so people can see how readily everything you know on bass applies to guitar as well. Just a thought.
Dude! You're INSANE! Awesome!!!
Brilliant!

Great tribute to Eddie. Dare I say I hear a little Cliff Burton in your version.

AWESOME tribute to Edward Van Halen. YOU are absolutely gifted on the bass. Enjoy ALL your videos.

I always play the tapping part of eruption on the G string because it's way easier
If you haven't already challenge davie, you'd smoke him
Oh, I see Glen Fricker's rule #2 really is based on truth. LMAO Sorry for the bad joke 😉 that really was an awesome rendition of Eruption. I'm sure Eddie has a smile on his face from ear to ear as he applauds. 🤘

No more “he plays bass because he can’t play guitar” jokes. That was killer
Tremendous!!
@Mr. WhiteMan yessir it was, Go Pack Go bitch😂👍🏻
Still, he played a guitar part, because all the bass parts are too easy.
That’s what I’m saying!
Sorry. Those jokes will live forever!
This one brought me to tears. I’m 61 & saw Van Halen 14 times. I was fortunate enough to meet Eddie and got to watch him play Eruption back stage. I’ll never, EVER forget that night! Thank you for bringing back one of the most epic memories of my life!
Me: How can you play that, you don't have a whammy bar
Charles: Hold my bass HACCS
@@AxxLAfriku yea no
@@AxxLAfriku what
@@AxxLAfriku you think your hilarious and so random and quirky but your just a weirdo
Because Charles de-tuned the guitar - ever seen a whammy bar on a bass ? ;D
@@AxxLAfriku ...what kind of pot are you smoking?
Not like I or we need to tell you, but Eddie probably would have shit a brick seeing a bass player do the whammy parts with quick drop tuners... because I’m pretty sure Eddie literally invented that too. Beautiful tribute to Eddie for a bunch of reasons.
Yup, Eddie invented a thing called a "D-Tuna" I believe which helped him switch to Drop D and back to standard on the fly. Eddie would have gotten a kick out of seeing a bass player basically have them on ALL his strings, since Eddie D-Tuna was just for the low E string on guitar to go to Drop D and back.
Also, it may be a bit pedantic to mention, but your post says Eddie "literally invented that too" when you mention the drop tuners, meaning you're implying he invented tapping. He did NOT invent tapping on guitar, just for the record (you can find old footage of even Jimmy Page tapping a note or two long before Eddie, and even an odd classical guy or two tapping a random note here or there) but he did innovate the technique far beyond what anyone had done before and popularized it far beyond what anyone had done before as well -- that's the more accurate (albeit wordy) way to properly describe Eddie's contribution to the guitar/music community ;)
@@DeathBringer769 Perhaps Eddie "invented" the idea of continuous tapping whereas in the past it was a fancy way to add a high accent note. Did anyone particularly do tapping in a repeating triplet form?
@@gregmoldovan5921 - Not even... I mean Eddie basically took an existing method and brought it to the ROCK genre. Check this out... Ignore the title, as the technique has been around for CENTURIES on various stringed instruments that we don't even use in Western culture, but this is a pretty fun example of early tapping on a guitar. The music starts at about 1:10 in the video
ruclips.net/video/3y1WK040cAI/видео.html&ab_channel=Liverpoolguitartuition
There was another guy named Dave bunker doing AMAZING things by tapping on a "guitar" that he invented at about the same time (the mid-1960s)... There are modern recordings of him and his evolved version of the touch-guitar that are pretty impressive too. If anything, it's pretty cool to watch and see where Eddie pulled inspiration from.
Stevie Ray didn't invent the blues, but only a fraction of people would have been exposed to it if he hadn't have brought it to the masses. Eddie was (IMO) the same when it came to the capabilities of 6 strings and a magnetic pick-up. He opened the eyes of future guitarists everywhere. A true master of the craft.
@@joebryant8500 Ah this sheds some light, thanks! So he made double-hand tapping popular but didn't invent, sorry you're going down like this EVH!
@@_Common_Logic_ Ico your statement about SRV imo he didn't BRING the blues to the masses as much as pushed it a bit to the forefront. IE: his "Little Wing" cover wouldn't exist without Hendrix, inspired by Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, et al. Plus Clapton and many others had been playing for years, etc etc. I get what your saying though...just saying.

Which is funny, because those snobs are the ones that play shirt scale basses with a pick. I'm a much better guitarist than I am bassist. I have a great respect for ANY instrument, because they all take an immense amount of skill, time and patience to even come close to taming. I dont care if you're circuit bending a toaster and that's how you make your music, you sound like you, and for that you have this lady's respect.
that bass playing melted my face. i dont think i'll ever be judgy towards basists again.

Slapped in his pants. Lol
This was "epico"
But, I've been playing bass for 40 years. I know for a fact Davie504 could play this just as well if he was interested in spending the time learning it and practicing it. Davie has 100% of all the techniques used to perform this in his musical toolbag.
This was a great video though.
i feel like crying, your words where so on point at describing the music of van halen, thanks a lot for this video
I’m nominating Charles Berthouds cover of eruption on bass for metal bass line of the year..what a great tribute sounded soooo sick
Good comment.
this is one of the best EVH tributes and its not even on guitar

That pinch harmonic at that bass blew me up. Unbelievable.
Yeah, that was surprising, good though.
Do you need distortion to make it work? I've tried for ages.. I thought you needed a whammy bar for that ;o
@@chutneyferret3569 yes at least makes it really easy. Turn distortion to max

What Charles didn't tell you guys is after practicing this for a million hours he can now break a 2x4 using only his tapping middle finger.
Fun fact: There are roughly 8 760 hours in a year, and one million hours divided by 8 760 = 114.15 years.
Or just 2 days
I love the EVH homage, but equally, the way he's taking the piss out of Davie504 in this video is absolutely brilliant!
Errr....not "taking the piss", just another cringe impersonation. Charles should stick to playing and give up on being a 'personality' for the main reason that he doesn't have one.
The antics in this video is obviously mockery at the highest level
I don't like Fortunato's insulting demeanor, but I do have to agree that Charles is definitely not "taking the piss" here. He's started this whole schtick based on Davies style for the past month or two and it's really driven me away from his videos. It's just not who he is, and I hate to say it, but it really is cringey seeing him do this. Like he's trying to capitalize of something that isn't his natural personality and it feels really fake and awkward. I wish he'd just be himself. That's why we all subscribed. Not to see another copy of Davie.

But basically all everybody does is copy each others basic crap over and over again instead of trying to write their own unique ideas to begin with.
The sad part is the EVH clip. You always saw that smoking cig on his tuners. That is what killed him. It sucks, but even the most talented people can be oblivious to what's killing them.
I keep thinking about that while watching hours of VH vids since he passed, he almost always had a smoke either in his mouth, or in his tuners. Just last night, my GF and I watched a vid of him playing in his yard, and someone put a smoke in his mouth and lit it for him...I said, "Take it easy on the smokes Ed." Way too late of course.
RIP Ed.
A bit sad so many people instantly KNOW it was the cigs, bad for you ? Yep. Deadly ? Possible.
