I just love how these movies feel like a perfect Elseworld graphic novel iteration of the Joker. It doesn't feel canonical, as in the traditional crime boss Joker who goes toe-to-toe with Batman, and honestly it doesn't need to be.

I think this being a musical is actually mad genius, people tend to forget that the Joker will often break off into a musical number during is chaos from comic books, animated series and even video games, so it's not uncommon that he would do that in a live action movie. I think it can work in a madness kind of way
Some people are still falling into the trap of thinking that this is (or should be) a superhero movie that's when in reality it's just a totally different story with a DC coat of paint on it in order to give it more mass appeal or just bypass worldbuilding. I thought Joker was a good, powerful movie and once I moved past it being a "Batman universe movie" I enjoyed it a whole lot more. Not sure if a sequel CAN pass it though given that we're already primed to expect surprises.

My girl and are NOT musical fans. We have exceptions though like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Rocky Horror, Sweeny Todd, and Nightmare Before Christmas. I LOVED Joker and I love the villain Joker too. Joaquin Phoenix is really great actor. Lady Gaga blew me away with her performance for American Horror Story: Hotel as the Countess. I think they are going to play off each other very well. I'm not happy that it's a musical, but I think this might actually be good. I'll give it a chance because I loved the first one so much.

Even way back after watching Joker 1 I saw it as a good setup for future movies where he would specifically shine as an evil psychopath type character. I hope he does some insane violent social experiments on citizens (somewhat like Jigsaw) like we see him do in the cartoons and comic books. When in the first movie chaos he caused was indeliberate, I want him to become a master planner here.
When Joe said, "folley ahdooo, I'm fancy now", I cringed out of my skin and into another dimension. By the way Alex's head was hanging down, I had company in the realm of ultimate cringe.
I was sceptical with the musical rumors at first but after watching the trailer i can see why they did it this way. It fits the universe and the character, and it is probably not gonna feel the same as the first movie. If they nail this i hope it becomes a trilogy.
If this IS a musical, WB might want to make sure that's well known ahead of time. Mean Girls & Color Purple remakes got backlash for being "surprise musicals", so this could be interesting. I actually have no problems with musicals. I saw Grease (1978) for the first time late last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up watching Mary Poppins (1964). I saw West Side Story in school. The OG and not the one with Rachel Zegler before she became the most hated actress in Hollywood over Brie Larson. I’ve never seen The Sound of Music but I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz and all the Willy Wonka movies which are all musicals. My favorite movie from 2022 was NOT Top Gun: Maverick which I still love and own a hat for but it’s Elvis. And that movie was basically music videos/concerts stitched together making it essentially a musical from Elvis’ discography. I was NOT a fan of Elvis or his music until I saw that 2022 movie. I tend to listen to my movies while the screen is off. So musicals have great replay value for that. It’s almost like you’re listening to the radio. No whining from me if Joker 2 is a musical. Many of those Disney animated movies my generation grew up on from The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), Hercules (1997), and Mulan (1998) are musicals. I honestly think it’s a genre that should get revived. A musical may not fit with DC characters but let’s just wait and see. Let’s not prejudge it. Makes me want to watch The Sound of Music (1965). I’ve actually never seen that one. It’s one of Seth McFarlane’s all-time favorite movies. God bless, Julie Andrews. Joker was a mix of two Scorsese films, Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. Scorsese also made a musical in that era “New York, New York” so it makes sense to go this way.
In the first movie, Arthur only donned the Joker persona in the last twenty minutes of that movie, and in those last few minutes, he was dangerous. If you thought he was going to be The Joker throughout the entire movie, then that’s on you, because the trailers never promised that. Even in this trailer, I’m still not sure he’s fully Joker yet, but maybe by the end, he will be. There can be more than one interpretation of the character.
I never understand why Harley is shown as a woman that Joker wants and enjoys being with. I don’t think he does, she is the one infatuated with him and keeps tagging along like a dog, no matter what. He isnt impressed by her, merely uses her for his pleasure and as a super fan, like some groupie and that’s what’s f*****d up. Joker is pure chaos, he has no attachments, he genuinely is lost and broken and that’s why he finds Batman so fascinating and why Batman can’t kill him
Like I'm all for people speaking their mind, but I would think that talking the entire way through it would cause me to miss a lot, especially with quiet & subtle moments laced throughout the trailer. Maybe don't talk through the ENTIRE thing you're reacting to.

Done this in so many other movies, like Sucker Punch. Sadly Harley Quinn is not a nurse or psychologist trying to "help" him in this. They're trying to put them on the same level, with Gaga's musical input ugh... Joker and Harley Quinn certainly are not on the same level. It's supposed to show Joker genuinely having feelings for her during the process, but deep down he doesn't actually harbour such feelings at all. It's a complete mindfuck for her and the audience when the script is flipped, showing just how easily Joker can manipulate you. Unfortunately, they will paint this in some kind of "Bonny and Clyde" send in the clowns psychological mind wrap where nothing is real, but it's real to them so that's all that matters because they're not alone when they're together. Well if they separate them and put them in different institutions that'll probably make for a boring movie so the system will unrealistically keep them together. The first one was really good, I don't know why they're going this random direction...

I'm going put my tinfoil hat on. The end of Joke 1 left few theories one was Joker was tell his origin and what we was seeing was the past. It is based on how he looked at the end with grey hair in Arkham and his demeanor. His demeanor was much more mature and comfortable in his own skin. The Joker 2 trailer shows he still not the Joker we saw at the end of Joker 1. He is still learning to be the Joker that he meant to be. Just like superheroes slowly figuring out how to be best hero they can be it and takes time. So Joker 2 is just chapter 2 of his story and how he meet Harley Quinn.

the first one was already oversold and overhyped for the nothing that it was. it was so joker that if you changed the title and everybody's names nothing would change.
Using music as a tool to explore psychosis of the two characters makes me feel that Todd Phillips in really in tune with what makes Joker and Harley tick as characters even though the interpretation is obviously wildly different. the Joker and Harley are heavily inspired by Vaudeville, in their design, performance, and characterization. This feels authentic to them, and I’m super excited for this movie.
I do not like musicals, but it looks good for a musical. There are some exceptions, I like Sweeney Todd and Across the Universe. I will give it a watch.
even though Harley Quinn turning Arthur into villain could be a decent twist(the reverse lore)but from a writing stand point, them equally igniting this new villain duo would be a lot more awesome, infantalizing Arthur isn't a great choice IMO
that final shot with the glass and lipstick was super artistic and genius. The cinematography in this is going to surpass the first one by miles. Hope the story and screenplay follows suit. I am with the crew though, definitely got me to buy a ticket to see this!

I thought Joker was a good, powerful movie and once I moved past it being a "Batman universe movie" I enjoyed it a whole lot more. Not sure if a sequel CAN pass it though given that we're already primed to expect surprises.

Hope Arthur figures out he feels the most comfortable surrounded by chaos. This could lead into him actually becoming a villain. They came out a stated this movie is not a musical, but music is an essential part of the movie. Joker's lack of an origin story lends his writers excellent avenues of creative freedom. I still do not think that the original needed a sequel, but I am intrigued.

My girl and are NOT musical fans. We have exceptions though like Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Rocky Horror, Sweeny Todd, and Nightmare Before Christmas. I LOVED Joker and I love the villain Joker too. Joaquin Phoenix is really great actor. Lady Gaga blew me away with her performance for American Horror Story: Hotel as the Countess. I think they are going to play off each other very well. I'm not happy that it's a musical, but I think this might actually be good. I'll give it a chance because I loved the first one so much.

Even way back after watching Joker 1 I saw it as a good setup for future movies where he would specifically shine as an evil psychopath type character. I hope he does some insane violent social experiments on citizens (somewhat like Jigsaw) like we see him do in the cartoons and comic books. When in the first movie chaos he caused was indeliberate, I want him to become a master planner here.

I was sceptical with the musical rumors at first but after watching the trailer i can see why they did it this way. It fits the universe and the character, and it is probably not gonna feel the same as the first movie. If they nail this i hope it becomes a trilogy.

If this IS a musical, WB might want to make sure that's well known ahead of time. Mean Girls & Color Purple remakes got backlash for being "surprise musicals", so this could be interesting. I actually have no problems with musicals. I saw Grease (1978) for the first time late last year and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I grew up watching Mary Poppins (1964). I saw West Side Story in school. The OG and not the one with Rachel Zegler before she became the most hated actress in Hollywood over Brie Larson. I’ve never seen The Sound of Music but I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz and all the Willy Wonka movies which are all musicals.
My favorite movie from 2022 was NOT Top Gun: Maverick which I still love and own a hat for but it’s Elvis. And that movie was basically music videos/concerts stitched together making it essentially a musical from Elvis’ discography. I was NOT a fan of Elvis or his music until I saw that 2022 movie. I tend to listen to my movies while the screen is off. So musicals have great replay value for that. It’s almost like you’re listening to the radio.
No whining from me if Joker 2 is a musical. Many of those Disney animated movies my generation grew up on from The Little Mermaid (1989), Beauty and the Beast (1991), Aladdin (1992), The Lion King (1994), Pocahontas (1995), Hercules (1997), and Mulan (1998) are musicals. I honestly think it’s a genre that should get revived. A musical may not fit with DC characters but let’s just wait and see. Let’s not prejudge it.

This being a musical is perfect considering the Joker’s showman personality. And lady Gaga has already shown she has not just the singing chops but also the acting chops in movies like house of Gucci and a star is born which even got her nominated for best actress at the Oscars. Joker was a mix of two Scorsese films, Taxi Driver and King of Comedy. Scorsese also made a musical in that era “New York, New York” so it makes sense to go this way.
In the first movie, Arthur only donned the Joker persona in the last twenty minutes of that movie, and in those last few minutes, he was dangerous. If you thought he was going to be The Joker throughout the entire movie, then that’s on you, because the trailers never promised that. Even in this trailer, I’m still not sure he’s fully Joker yet, but maybe by the end, he will be. There can be more than one interpretation of the character.
I never understand why Harley is shown as a woman that Joker wants and enjoys being with. I don’t think he does, she is the one infatuated with him and keeps tagging along like a dog, no matter what. He isnt impressed by her, merely uses her for his pleasure and as a super fan, like some groupie and that’s what’s f*****d up. Joker is pure chaos, he has no attachments, he genuinely is lost and broken and that’s why he finds Batman so fascinating and why Batman can’t kill him

They're trying to put them on the same level, with Gaga's musical input ugh... Joker and Harley Quinn certainly are not on the same level. It's supposed to show Joker genuinely having feelings for her during the process, but deep down he doesn't actually harbour such feelings at all. It's a complete mindfuck for her and the audience when the script is flipped, showing just how easily Joker can manipulate you. Unfortunately, they will paint this in some kind of "Bonny and Clyde" send in the clowns psychological mind wrap where nothing is real, but it's real to them so that's all that matters because they're not alone when they're together. Well if they separate them and put them in different institutions that'll probably make for a boring movie so the system will unrealistically keep them together. The first one was really good, I don't know why they're going this random direction...

I'm going put my tinfoil hat on. The end of Joke 1 left few theories one was Joker was tell his origin and what we was seeing was the past. It is based on how he looked at the end with grey hair in Arkham and his demeanor. His demeanor was much more mature and comfortable in his own skin. The Joker 2 trailer shows he still not the Joker we saw at the end of Joker 1. He is still learning to be the Joker that he meant to be. Just like superheroes slowly figuring out how to be best hero they can be it and takes time. So Joker 2 is just chapter 2 of his story and how he meet Harley Quinn.

Using music as a tool to explore psychosis of the two characters makes me feel that Todd Phillips in really in tune with what makes Joker and Harley tick as characters even though the interpretation is obviously wildly different. the Joker and Harley are heavily inspired by Vaudeville, in their design, performance, and characterization. This feels authentic to them, and I’m super excited for this movie.
I do not like musicals, but it looks good for a musical. There are some exceptions, I like Sweeney Todd and Across the Universe. I will give it a watch.
even though Harley Quinn turning Arthur into villain could be a decent twist(the reverse lore)but from a writing stand point, them equally igniting this new villain duo would be a lot more awesome, infantalizing Arthur isn't a great choice IMO
