Doesn't matter if an officer does things correctly 9/10 times if that 1 time is as bad as that imo. Only getting a C- after having just tried shaming and threatening a victim of a crime is too much to allow them to continue doing that job imo. If there had been no marks on his body, and she had lied about the interaction, he could have been the one getting arrested with their attitude about the situation.

Imagine if they did that to a woman? Woman’s groups would make a huge public outcry (and rightly so) but us men still would never do that. As it’s seen as shameful and is treated like this cop treated it.

Is it surprising that citizens are reluctant to engage with the police for any reason now? It's always the same, the cops show up, immediately escalate the situation and say a bunch of crap that isn't true, treat everyone involved like a criminal regardless of what actually happened, then when their ego eventually gets bruised they look for any reason to make an arrest no matter how ridiculous or petty. They never actually do anything to de-escalate or protect their community, it's always about protecting their ego.

I myself was threatened with losing my son after his "father" a**sed me. I had gone to the ER because my hand was so swollen I thought it was broken. My sister had called the law on him, and a cop just barged into the ER where I was receiving care to question me. I wasn't even in a private room. I was in the hall where every patient there could hear and see me while I recounted the hours of hell I went through that night. He threatened to take my son for child endangerment if I didn't tell him what happened. I quote him now, "You will tell me what happened, or I will make sure you never see your child again", and with these words I was forced to retell everything while I could hear the whole hall go silent with everyone cranning their ears to hear every bit of my ordeal as if it was theirs to relish in. I felt so exposed, and battered again. It took me a long time to process this on top of what I had been through. The sad part is, I had no intentions on being with this man again, and every intention on getting me and my son out. This was actually the first and last time his "father" did this to me, and I was determined for it to be this way because my son has always been my priority. This cop treated me like it was my fault this happened, but I didn't ask for this. If he would've just dealt with me with respect and compassion I'm sure I would've actually pressed charges myself after I had time to process what was going on because it all happened so fast. It disgusts me when victims are treated this way. We don't deserve to be a**ed by the very people we should trust to stop it.

I cannot speak of the Portland PD in general, but I was amazed that they not only showed up swiftly, but also did NOT attempt to criminalize me, but, in fact, asked me if I wanted to press charges.
I'm usually pretty anti-establishment, but I think I must call out the two unnamed officers that took my call seriously, gave me the opportunity to get my things in order, and, in fact, asked me if I wanted to press charges (I did not; we have children).

I was a victim of domestic abuse from my ex girlfriend, she got mad because I was kicking her out of my house when I found out she cheated on me, and I lived in Vidor, TX and she hit me multiple times and knocked the glasses off my face so hard it made my nose bleed. My neighbors called the cops when they heard the argument, and when the cops showed up they threatened to take me to jail for me telling them to leave when I seen that they were not interested in me filing potential battery charges on her. They didn't even stay to make sure she left my house, she didn't have any bills and wasn't on any lease agreement, and I explained multiple times that I just wanted her gone. I couldn't even get them to put a no trespassing order on her. After she vandalized another girls car 3 months after our break up, that was parked outside my house, I finally got a restraining order against her but it felt like pulling teeth. Vidor, TX PD is crooked and deserves an F in my book. Made me feel like being a male and a victim of domestic abuse was a joke.. still hurts to think about 3 years later.

@@Tijuanabill He said she didn't have any bills and wasn't on the lease.
And they absolutely can make someone committing domestic battery leave on the spot, either by arrest or making them separate by getting them to go somewhere else for the night.
And if domestic abuse is being committed, he could get an emergency no contact order and she wouldn't be able to set foot there (if the law worked the way it's supposed to).
I have known of a few men that were kicked out of their home in one of those three ways and half of them weren't even actually beating their partner, the woman just claimed that they were and the police arrested them.
Also I know it is a smaller thing but he is venting about being an abuse victim, so starting your comment with "Sorry buddy" has the same energy as the cop in this video.

I had been secretly videoing all her abuse and showed the attending cops the footage of her beating me so the restraining order was placed that very night.
The police never called me to see if everything was okay, but they called her multiple times over the following week to check on her to make sure she was okay. The videos showed her being the abusive one, and me trying to get away from her or begging her to stop. She kicked the officer in the face, etc., and they remained calm. That's great, except for the fact that they basically implied the boyfriend was a weak little loser. And, despite all of her behavior, she was cuffed in the front! Makes it a lot easier to kick a window and bash hands against a window when a subject is cuffed in this manner.
