1. Only my starter in battle

Other rules:
-- My Pokemon have perfect genetics to ensure fair comparison between species.
-- *Pokeballs & Pokedolls are allowed in battle
-- *The badge-boost glitch is not restricted at all
-- *Skipping the Rocket Hideout & Marowak is allowed
-- I play the game at 4x game speed (238 frames per second)
-- My Pokemon has perfect DVs
-- The Trash-Can-Puzzle is automatically solved so times are not affected by RNG
-- The bike is allowed (the bike skip is not)
-- Skipping the bike is not allowed
-- Saving between league members is allowed
-- If the solo Pokemon faints and I choose to blackout it counts towards my reset counter
-- I can pause the game & timer to take breaks
-- The footage is sped up / slowed down to match the pace of my narration
*Double-Team:
-- Almost every Pokemon can learn Double-Team through TM
-- The TM can be purchased in Celadon
-- Using it would centralize the meta
-- Every Pokemon would use it to overcome tough battles at lower levels
-- It raises evasion
-- It triggers the badge boost
-- Banning the TM allows Pokemon who learn it through level up to use it
-- I believe evasion is part of Pokemon and shouldn't be banned entirely
-- I don't want the videos to all be double-team spam though, that's not fun or entertaining
-- Only two Pokemon learn Double-Team through level up: Pikachu & Scyther
-- Minimize is the other evasion raising move, these Pokemon learn it through level up:
-- Clefairy, Clefable, Grimer, Muk, Chansey, Staryu
Yellow Version changes from Red/Blue:
1. You cannot use Dig/Escape Ropes in Bill's House or the Pokefan Club
2. You cannot talk to the trainers in Blaine's gym to battle them
3. Surge, Sabrina, and Blaine do not have Good AI
4. The Elite Four have better movesets
5. Koga, Sabrina, Blaine, and Giovanni have higher level teams
6. Blaine doesn't use Super Potions are full HP
7. The rival picks his eeveelution based on the outcome of the first two battles.
-- Lose in the lab: Vaporeon
-- Win in the lab and skip route 22: Flareon*
-- Win in both locations: Jolteon
-- *You cannot lose on route 22 because you blackout

-- STAB
-- Same-Type-Attack-Bonus - a 1.5x damage multiplier

-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of effort values. You can invest in all stats until they max
out at 65535
-- DVs or Determinate Values
-- The Gen1&2 equivalent of IVs (individual values), these range from 0-15

Actually, you CAN see the front sprite for both Omanyte and Kabuto in the same playthrough. In the northwest corner of the zoo in Fuchsia City, checking the sign lets you see the front sprite of the first form fossil you didn't pick in Mt. Moon. So by picking the Dome Fossil, you'd get a sneak peek at Omanyte in Fuchsia, and vice versa. Which I guess is nice for letting you know 'Yeah, you picked that fossil, but look at what you could've gotten if you picked the other!', or something. Nothing like giving a kid buyer's remorse hours after they made the decision!
I thought the pewter museum had pictures of them?
@@bradlauk1419 They had skeletons of Aerodactyl and Kabutops (which apparently has a skeleton and not just a fossilized shell but not important here), but unlike the zoo, it didn't add a seen entry to your Pokedex for it.
OH YEAH! Playing Pokemon challenges I never go over to those areas, but you're totally right.
That's what I was about to say. Since everyone does challenge videos now, they don't stop and smell the roses. They don't explore like they did as a kid.

Fun trivia: Because of FRLG, we know the names of the "elite 4" of Rock Tunnel. The Wrapping Lass is named Alicia, the Pokemaniac is named Ashton, the status Jr.Trainer is named Martha, and the self-destructing Hiker is named Dudley.
Kind of funny how the self-destructing Hiker is way harder than Bruno lmao
I love that the Hiker whose gimmick is causing things to blow contains “Dud” in their name.

0:41 I really enjoyed how in Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee they put the revived first form of the fossil you didn’t choose into the little zoo outside of the Safari Zone. It’s cool that they let you see the other one, given that you never see them otherwise in Kanto.

Those little expression on Omanyte are so cute. The angry ones look like he's flipping his opponent off (though I get the feeling that wasn't intended and is mostly raising it's tentacle in confidence that it's going to win) and the little crying one when you take the Dome Fossil is so cute that I want to give him a hug. Really nice video. Please keep up the good work.

It’s still funny to me that the one thing holding Lord Hellix back from potentially having a Sub Hour time is a mandatory Oddish trainer. I can’t wait to see how the Darklord Dome will fair.

Both Kabuto and Omanyte are adorable, in their own way. It's nice to see a playthrough focused on their base form (or Omanyte, in this case) and all of your routing to smooth things out is quite commendable. You knew the trouble spot from a previous go around and knew how to prepare adequately.
I'm proud of you for not skipping those optional trainers.

Just wanna say - thanks for always picking Kabuto in the runs. I've always felt it was the obvious choice, with Kabutops (probably my favourite pokemon) being one of the coolest pokemon, yet seemingly most forgotten.
Despite that everyone playing when i was a kid grabbed the helix fossil 🤷

I just want to say that the quality of these videos is absolutely great. Everything seems perfect, from the overlay that shows the stats and the moves in real time, to the Pokémon animation. Everything.
Love these playthroughs as longtime fan but someone who never really learned much about things like type interactions. I've returned to playing recently and each video focusing on a different Pokemon really helps me get a sense of how to handle different situations.

So thanks for teaching me a lot about Omanyte, because I like to do a run with sometime. 😊 That training in the digglet's cave was really a great idea to gain speed stat experience like that. And that kind really shows how great stat experience can be, or in words how hard a minimum battles run could have been. 🤔
Also, what's even more amazing is the fact that your optimized version had been almost resetless, if it wasn't for bad rng. But overall having only one reset on a run with non evolved pokemon is amazing. 😁

Omanyte & specifically Omastar have always been some of my all time favorite Pokémon! Since I was a kid, wayyy before the whole “lord helix” meme. I remember back in the day, before the “lord helix” thing, everyone always liked Aerodactyl & Kabutops more because they looked cooler
I never liked the fossils at all when I was a kid, my kid brain saw that when you got them they were only level 30, and didn't feel like training them up being that I was already so close to the end of the game.
Your overlay and layout game is really next level, wow! The dynamic stats display, the subtle badge image for boost indicator, the eye expressions on your pokemon, the team display cut-ins, the expected power per matchup on moves.... great design. The only things I can think of that might improve it would be having something like enemy stats on the top right and maybe include the damage ranges/expected hit count for them. (Move movepool down and maybe pare it down to useful things after the introduction?)
Interesting run, too; didn't expect Omanyte to do so well.

Wooo this was an awesome video.Honestly a real moment of redemption for Omanyte. It ended up being really quite strong on its own, especially in the late game. I wonder how it'll stack up against Kabuto.
Unrelated, but Omanyte's R/B sprite is pretty great, as well as Kabuto's R/B and R/G sprites. Love these little fossils.

Yup, that Lass is so brutal for the fossils. When I first did Omastar I had on idea. Everyone mentioned the wrapping lass and Erika, but the Oddish Lass is the true challenge!

Loved the video Scott, one think that might save time in the early game is to grab the watergun tm in the cave. Its possible to tech this to pokemon even if they already have the move on there list as long as they stil have an empty move slot, meaning you will have 2 options for watergun then you can replace it with the dody slam tm from the ss ann - doubling your PP for the move! try it out some time :)
Freeze is the hardest status condition to get off, even in modern games.
If you run through any of them with electric types, you will get loads of paralysis, ghosts loads of sleep statuses, poison types and you will poison lots of times, fire types also inflict burns often.
Yet if you run ice types and use ice type moves you will be lucky to get the freeze status 5 times for an entire run.
Freeze rates need to be increased, it's the biggest reason why ice types get looked over.
Cool moves, cool designs, but the benefits are more of a negative.
Even introducing a freeze causing status move would make ice types more viable.
As it stands water types with ice beam or freeze dry is a better set up.
Ice types need some serious love, they gave it to bug types in gen 4.
The moment you mentioned the merging of second playthrough and the testing i thought it will be too much to follow. But surprisingly it wasn't. You did great there.

all hail the Lord Helix, love this little guy, on my ideal plays of any of the Gen 1 games or their remakes, this is my go-to Water type. love that he got a great run from him, shame about that 1 reset though, you could of done it with 0 there. I am assume the dark lord dome is up next. should be good

I'm playing through yellow and picked the helix fossil by accident when I wanted the dome... but this video has now motivated me to use that omanyte as my water type, right after I catch a different water type to surf to Cinnabar :
Omanyte is an amazing water type! Especially for Blaine in Yellow because it resists all his attacks!

Even Game Freak cannot capture Lord Helix's perfected form
I noticed this twice during the run - during the Misty battle and the Lorelei battle. Omanyte gets hit by a water move multiple times in those fights, and yet it displays that it's taking not very effective damage. Does gen I not display what should be neutral damage after type matchup correctly?
There is a text display glitch. The Pokémon is taking neutral damage but the game displays the wrong text. It only checks one type combination and goes with the first result it returns.
It's nice to see you starting to get a much better read on how many training you need to do for a good time. The experience is starting to show. Not picking stab surf over icebeam or bodyslam is starting to be a theme though. Any reason for that? Like PP management?

wouldn't it be worth, in future, catching an abra from next to nugget bridge, and teleporting off the ss Anne in future? That way you could prevent missing rest in future? I mean, you probably did the odds and figured it'd be quicker to get one in celadon, but maybe for early game it could save some time (returning from bill's etc)?
Too much RNg to count on it imo. Could tank a run.
I'm aware that this is a distant possibility but I hope when you finally make it to gen 6 you give Pumpkaboo a try, some Halloween years from now.

It was difficult because the original Universal Pokemon Randomizer only supports through Generation V (3DS emulation being in its infancy at the time the project ceased development, IIRC).
Now a fork of the original UPR exists, which does support Gens VI and VII.

Considering that you already are extracting the enemies stats in your newer overlay, would you be willing to account for physical/special stat differences in the effective power box, or is that... OP? It would, Afterall, have provided a major help against surge on your first run...
I will may display exact damage ranges for second playthroughs only. But this effective power setup is here to stay for first playthroughs
What ever happened to the first stage Water-type tier list? It wasn’t featured in your future Kabuto video either. Where would they go?
It's gone for now. Maintaining all the different assets bloats production so significantly. In the coming months I will be streamlining things and removing many things that aren't needed. Maybe the water-tier list will show up again. If it does, I'll rank Omanyte then.

I didn’t like omanyte as a kid but the little guy has grown on me it’s so damn cute it’s… legs?… tentacles?…. They look like whiskers to me. I’d still always choose the dome fossil though because it is the right choice
seeing as he did a vs. between it and Kabuto it's no surprise he was able to optimize the first time around.
not a complaint at all just something I find interesting that he has been able to get even better results over all.
