One fact about this song you may not know about. During the making of this movie, Lata ji had a disagreement with the movie's director Mr Raj Kapoor and as a result she refused to sing for his films. As LP were composing this title track it was obvious who was the only singer who could do justice to this track, it could only be sung by Lata ji of course..but as she refused to sing for Raj Kapoor, someone had to persuade her, but who? An elderly gent ( who I can't remember ) someone who Lata ji treated as her guru and who she respected and he asked her to do this for him and of course she agreed. She said herself in an interview I arrived at the recording studio still angry and I said to LP " Come on teach me this song so I can record it and then go". LP & Lata ji along with the orchestra rehearsed it until she knew it and then it was recorded in just 1 take and it was perfect, she then left and the rest is history. 😀✌

As a child she had a bad accident and got badly burnt on one side of her face, and that's why if you noticed she wears the front half of her hair so it hangs over one side of her face, that's so it covers her burn scars. Even though the villagers love her singing, they also look down at her as a lesser person, almost as an untouchable, to them she is a unlucky omen, so that's why she arrives at the temple whilst it is empty and then she leaves as the worshippers arrive. Shashi Kapoor's character judges Roopa ( without even seeing her ) on the basis that whoever has a voice so sweet and beautiful, imagine what she looks like....and when he is confronted with the truth, to quote Jack Nicholson " He can't handle the truth" and as a result he rejects her. If you noticed her one side of face was covered , because her that side of face in movie was burnt. She was moving back due to inferiority complex..Hero felt in love with her voice and then he abandoned due to her burnt face.

The actress Zeenat aman's interview with simi garewal in "rendavous with simi garewal" was so good and emotional. In real life,one of her eye is damaged after her husband beat her up, even after this when they divorced and her husband was sick.. she look after him n he passed away... and the interview is in English.
