One of her most famous songs is " Meri awaaz hi pehchaan hai, naam gum jayega, chehra yeh badal jayega " that means " My voice is my only identity, my name will be lost and my face shall change ". Irony is this ends up becoming a truth for her. Her voice is her identity.

Everyone says that she is the gem of India but I think you will never find a voice like her in this universe. This is God gifted voice. She practiced music a minimum of 14 hrs in a day even at 85 years of age. She and her sister Asha Ji both had almost the same voice earlier but Asha changed her voice by practicing various types of western songs as well as Indian classics. We are feeling proud of them. They can portray the film character and change their singing style as per the situation and the state of mind of the actress in the film when the song would be placed. They are legends. Rest in Sur Lata Ji.

At the moment I am in Bangaldesh where I am originally from. I live in Canada Toronto. Lata Mangeshkar is and will always be the best. She said that her voice was 75% God gifted and the rest of 25% she had to work in it to keep it the way it was. She also said that she was a "SHISSHO" meaning student. In her own words, " There is no end to learning and she learns and picks up tips on music everyday from everyone". What a soul ❤ . I Know about 3000+ of her songs. Still learning everyday from her. May her soul rest in peace.

And then almost for next 70 years she was active singer and gave enormous joy and happiness with her songs to millions of people around the world... You should do at-least 4-5 videos with her songs rendered especially between 1950-65 when her voice quality was the best .. Listen to songs like Lag ja gale or Tera mera pyar amar or Chand fir nikla or kahi deep jale kahi dil or Pyar kiya to Darna kya or Agar mujhse mohabbbat hai and so on & on.. List is just endless.. Please please react on above songs if you really can.. Thanks

Honestly, the fact that Justin can break apart Lata Mangeshkar's talent with such specifications is also a testament to how much of an understanding he has of Indian music and music in general.

I am so glad you reacted to just the audio of these songs. The audio in these old video songs are mostly poor. The audio only version gives you the clarity and richness of her voice. However, you heard most of her songs from the 80s and some from the 70s when her voice had changed. You should hear some of her 60s songs where her voice was like a singing bird(hence the title nightingale) like the last song which you said as your favourite.

      @no127 2 года назад

@@underbooks5403 'Mausam hai aashiqana' is from 'Pakeezah' which was released in 1972. But the song itself was certainly recorded sometime in the 50s. One can tell from Lataji's voice. The movie took 14 years to make. There is even an early black and white clip from the 50s of Meena Kumari dancing to the song 'Inhi logon ne'. The visuals are very different but the rendition is the same!

In 6:40 second, I also thought that was an instrument. This is how great she was. The whole India is sad because she is no more. I am also sad, disheartened about the fact that she no longer exists in this physical planet anymore. But I believe she will exist in everyone's heart forever.

When you call some one a legend its because their body of work is unparalleled and timeless. She was both and to have been on this planet at the same time as her is an honour for most of us Indians. Musical tastes are the most fickle as you can very well imagine , changing constantly and evolving over the years with genres and artistes . To have been the darling of a billion people for over 6 decades across 30000 songs is unprecedentled and not likely to be equalled in the history of our planet. To paraphrase one of her own songs that you featured here , ' Neend finally aa gayi Lata ji '.. Rest in eternal peace.

Great lata ji Demice feels so personal though I never meet her personally. We have lost our gem our goddess Saraswati but her voice her legacy will remain forever. My Grand parents were used to listen her songs through radio my mom dad grew up listening her songs so do I though we wasn't that fortunate to be able to listen her songs since she was growing old. I sometimes feel heartbroken that bollywood music industry is lossing it's touch specially in terms of lyrics what it was past 6-7 decades. But one thing is sure that I'm going to tell my children about lata ji, asha ji, Raffi ji, kishore ji and geeta dutt ji the greatest gems of all time and keep their legacy alive.

Thank you! Thank you Thank you!
That was finally a good catalogue of her songs.
I was so saddened by her demise, she represented not an era but eras.
There is not a single female vocalist in India who didn't idolize her. Shreya literally started her career by singing Lata's songs at shows.
You cannot fathom how good she was, but she sacrificed some crazy riffs and runs, in favour of the emotion and the vocal tone.
She has done some amazing Indian classical renditions with such finesse too.
The only other Bollywood female vocalist who comes close is her younger sister Asha Bhonsle. Her brother, father and sisters were all excellent singers.
Truly a first Musical family, if ever there was.
She started in the 1940s, with her last recording in 2015. I think her peak was from the 1960s to 1980s. From the mid-90s her voice began to deteriorate a little, because of age.
There will never be another Lata. RIP Ma'am. Timeless. Ageless.
