- Here is a video of an off-frame modular set completed by Aiken Housing Center in Walterboro, SC. There are key differences between modular homes and manufactured(mobile) homes that can determine which is better for you. Modular homes increase in value just like a site built/stick built home compared to a manufactured home which may not increase in value.

Sir this is an eye opener! I would like to move a 92 mobile home and place a modular. But it on a single wide road and narrow lit with trees. Guess I need a site engineer to see if possible! This is a great set up! I learned a lot! Thank u! Ya’ll are the best in the business!

The main advantages of a modular home vs stick built;
1. The building materials are safe from theft because they're in a factory.
2. Once the home is delivered and set up you can move in right away.
3. Arguably better control over construction process.
Care to add more?
4. Many efficiencies come when building in a factory environment with more specialized equipment and such.

Speed. Unless you have a massive construction crew with all of their ducks in a row, it's probably the fastest way to get a full size house. They can build these homes in a couple weeks in the factory. Within a week after it's done, it can be installed. on the site. I remember one company saying they typicall can build a double wide in a week.

wow!easy, you know you'll build on the ground then you lift of place on the foundation whereas in the Caribbean they build with scaffolding placing onto the foundation. Your method up there seems to be easier

Why was a man under the second half of the house as it was coming down. The crabe operator could not see him and if one of the cables failed he could of been hurt or killed.......that seems excessively dangerous

Maybe it’s me but right off watching this there was so many safety issues like the 2 guys walking under the load , no hard hats ,( tool or something small could fall off left by you know who) no 4 point tending lines just 2 points ,guy trying to move house by hand ,guy leaves moving house by hand another blue shirt leg and feet under edge corner of house . accidents happened fast and no one should of been near the house until 2 feet from foundation. The trucks should of been position so crane didn’t have to pick load so high ,truck could of drive out from under house after picked up, These guys needs a lot of safety training on doing this job but they will say we done hundreds like this it only take one time . Safety first . good luck people

Modulars are actually built stronger than normal stick built homes because they have to withstand being transported so they have a higher building standard the company I've been looking at their modular homes are rated to withstand 175mph winds

We purchased and paid for our NEW DEAR VALLEY HOME over 3 months back. Still not set-up on our property. The dealer and mover now say they don't have the necessary equipment to move our home on to our property. They need a piece of equipment called a JADDE 2000!! Anyone have an suggestions, the grade is 10 degrees and paved.
I would contact some crane and rigging businesses all they do is move things.

Products of very Poor quality in a year when everything settles by itself and falls into place, you will make a complete renovation of the whole house and repair all cracks and all joints.

It really depends on what you want. You can have a basic home or add optional features to it. Your land has to be fully ready to have the home delivered. I had a modular in 1986 and plan on another one. Good luck

Longer spreader poles would have saved damage to soffits.
That is what was bugging me the most. Also I am not a "fan" of builders or construction workers that are in cargo shorts and sneakers. I did real construction for 37 years and the only time I ever saw a crew like this on non-professional jobsites. I would have shut this lift down immediately till they had the proper rigging and crews working...
He didn't have to cuss at the man about holding the damn rope.
Modular homes are the future but if they can come in more sections that mean people can remove extra square feet if they do not need or add more sections for more beds, kitchen, bathroom etc. but should be in their own lots and drive way.

In the Katrina recovery episode of Build it Bigger they showed a modular home built on stilts atleast 12ft up.
Wish the video finished with the roof raising instead of cutting off before we truly sae The Roof raised and completely up in place.
I would like to have seen the total finish. You totally getting the roof up and connected in the sides and everything. But she don’t show that you fall short.

Why bother with crawlspace vents when it’s all encapsulated. Was this in a flood zone?

@@christineloz1686 Radon should be vented with a piped system from under the ground/slab or under the encapsulated floor. Humidity and moisture should be controlled with typical conditioning systems. The proper way to do an enclosed crawlspace is to treat it as conditioned space and supply heating and air conditioning to the space. By adding foundation vents to the outside, you are letting moisture INTO the space. With no space conditioning, the crawlspace will be ground temperature (about 55° depending on your climate zone). When the humidity in the outdoor air meets the cool temps in the crawl, you'll get condensation and water on the surfaces.
I'm sorry to be a negative commenter, but I think you need to work with a home performance professional such as a HERS Rater to improve the homes you build.

I have looked at 3 doublewide homes...all 3 had a chemical smell..I do know they all use fiber board or particle board which use a formaldehyde laden glue.
As the house has no wall, roof ventilation, how does one rid the house of these odors?
@@christineloz1686 Can I assume that your homes meet standards for low-income or other subsidized housing? If so, HUD has standards for formaldehyde emissions, so I would start by making sure the manufacturer is using properly graded materials. Almost all of the off gassing will occur in less than two years. Faster if high temperatures and humidity are present.
I'm also not sure about your local code requirements, but ENERGY STAR standards (required for any FHA and HUD projects for new construction) require the home to have whole house automatic mechanical ventilation to meet ASHRAE standards. This can be achieved most commonly by installing a continuous or programmable bath fan or other exhaust fan. Other methods would be the use of an Energy Recovery Ventilator or Heat Recovery Ventilator. Those systems are "balanced" so they will be exhausting air from the house and at the same time, bringing fresh air in. They operate either continuously or on a % run time controller.
Are you planning to have a ventilation system?
Many of the Habitat chapters that I've worked with over the years have learned what materials are off gassing and can target them with either custom options that do not off gas, or encapsulating the product with a clear low-VOC finish. For example, the countertops are made of particle board, so in HFH projects, they will put a clear finish on the underside and edges of the countertops.
Finally, I worked with a builder many years ago on a house that had a very bad chemical smell. So bad that your eyes would burn when entering the house. Turns out the foundation contractor had added an admixture to the concrete to speed up the curing time. The house had a basement and was poured in the winter. As the concrete cured, the calcium chloride was off gassing into the house. CC is also used when the foundation needs to cure faster to get the house set. We see the same problem with "blitz build" projects.

Houses aren't supposed to breath... Any house built after 2009 needs an air pressure test to pass code. The tighter the better, don't want that mold!

There were no hard hats or steel-toes shoes on the Bob Vila modular home episode, which was aired everywhere. Apparently OSHA was busy that day. And what's the problem with short pants? You ever worked in Florida in the summer? Levi's add another ten degrees to the 115 degree humiture.

It's not. The whole point of securing it to the foundation is that it's basically the same as a stick built at that point. To keep it mobile you'd need a manufactured home, not modular and only have skirting instead of securing it to an actual foundation

Absolutely the worse rigging I have ever seen. I have set probably 2-300 crane set modular homes and I would never allow that rigging. Terrible

Depends what company u go with but they are significantly cheaper than normal stick built homes just make sure u do your research and go with a reputable company their is definitely a lot of pros with going modular from what I've read and to answer your question normal stick built homes run around 100$ to 140$ per square foot but modulars run 65$ to 85$ per square foot but also depends on location lot of variables just a rough estimate

standards regulated under HUD, and are placed on piers.
