This man really knows Nuno's music. Not only Extreme but Mourning Widows and Population One. That's a really cool thing to hear that this guitar sounds really close to Nuno's. Not like other signatures that requiers the right amp, the treble booster, the other pedals to sound like your favorite guitarist. I think the N4 is the absolute super strat for rock and metal.
I used to know the luthier that made Nuno’s first few personal Washburn’s. He was a master builder for Ibanez, BC Rich, as well other companies that had custom shops in the L.A. area. He lived in El Monte CA did some side work out of his garage. One night I go over to pick up a guitar he was working on. We walk back to the garage where he did all his work (routers, drill presses, etc) He shows me a few one piece Nuno bodies and Stevens necks and says he’s building some protos for Nuno, right there in his garage! Will never forget that. That guy also designed and built Paul Stanley’s personal Silvertone model. I believe he may be back with BC Rich, making their top of line guitars.
Oh yeaa .. I've had my '92 Davies N4 for 26 years now .. bought it for $1000 and it still plays and feels better than anything else I've tried .. seriously.
Man, I came so frikkin close, twice. I just backed out in time both times. I sanded the neck down with 2000 grit and she's smooth as a baby's ass. This thing I've had for so long, I'd go to music stores and wonder why everything felt like a 'toy'. It's like a custom shop guitar and the only thing I'd like to compare it with is the MM1 AZ series Ibanez that just came out .. and a Guthrie Govan Charvel. But that's just for a comparison. I'm gonna get the new Victory V30 mkII and be set for life.
Rob A yeah a friend of mine owns a Davies and it’s unbelievable and rare as fuck, especially here in Australia. I’ve got a custom shop N4 and its amazing, I’ll never get rid of it!
Heck yea! My buddy bought his 2 months after mine and his was already the Chicago factory version. I really think there are not many of these Davies and most people have zero clue what they are. But when they play it, they love it, the sustain, the butter low action, the ergonomics. Most want to buy it on the spot. It's my Amish SuperStrat that beats everything I've tried so far. What year is your custom shop? What years did they make those .. mid 00's?
Cool! I owned 4 N4's at one point and an NX3. What's crazy is I ended up selling all the N4's and keeping the NX3. It just has some mojo to it. I never connected w/ the N4's for whatever reason even though they were KILLER guitars. Anyhow, the NX3 is currently in the shop having an 84 reissue OFR installed along w/ some other upgrades been wanting to do for a long time. The point is I never owned this particular N4 and have been looking at it for the last several years! This will probably be my next guitar. Great demo! Sweet tones, and nice playing. I do like the Davies versions better than the standards and regarding the roll off, I added treble bleeds to a couple of the N4's as well as my N3 to take care of the high end loss.
Awesome man! Thanks for the info regarding the treble loss and I can totally see how the N4 may not be for everyone. Sounds like your NX3 will be kickin' some ass tho! Many thanks for watching really appreciate it :)
Not gonna lie a lesson or like a wammy bar tricks video would be great if you showed the ways you did those dive bombs and pulls at 5:45 I’ve never really heard someone do a couple of those you do them just and idea thanks for being one of the only people with a n4 demo 😂 you rock thanks a lot for all the lessons mate NUNO IS KING 👑
I think a great lesson would be on his “open fret hammer on muted legato” that very specific nuno technique you did it super cool would be a good video I think just some Examples in different places and stuff… when you did it in the intro in your own place it sounded phenomenal!
The first thing i had to do on my N4 was move the selector switch behind the Vol knob... when sitting down I would constantly knock it with my leg out of the bridge position. Super annoying. LOL
I’m curious. On the back cutout, what are those two holes by the springs and claw? I saw those on other N4’s. I never saw one in person so I could never figure out what they are for.
Sorry can't recall as I had the guitar on loan and didn't mess with the setup too much. FWIW with my new N2 though I have the BL USA 500XL setup about 4mm from low (thickest) E string, 5mm from high E string.
Well here's the interesting thing! Bill Lawrence USA state they are L500XLs but interestingly they measure (~5.2 Henries) close to what Bill Lawrence (Willi Stich) stated was the value for the L500. I'll be making a video about these pickups soon, maybe shed some light on the historically murky topic.
most videos of people using N4 or N6 play sloppy and have too much gain. Most just noodle around. Yours is good! I have an N6. Maple neck makes it brighter sounding and is more versatile. But I want a N4 authentic since the '90s.
For the gain sounds I used my Line 6 HELIX LT. I forget if I was going for old skool Nuni Marshall JCM800 with a RAT pedal in front or Soldano vibes like III sides! Generally though Nuno has quite a biting sound which helps with his percussive feel and sound, try setting up your gear to give plenty of high end, play with the mids you might find you need to cut them more that you'd think and control the bass so things aren't too boomy. Hope that helps :)
I know it's two years later but I'm writing this anyway... I have a 1994 N4 and a 1991 Korean N2. Necks are identical. They play exactly the same, since I've set them up both to my liking. Only difference is the cutaway on the N4 and the pickups, the Korean one has Washburn's in house W621 neck and W623 bridge which sound stellar, even better than the N4. Also, bought a 2000 something Chinese N2 at some point. Sold it a couple of days later...
I would love to acquire the snakeskin version that I've seen, but it's well out of my reach. I wouldn't feel bad about altering that one with various experiments to the pickups and hardware and such!
I know the 4's are pricey but have you ever tried an N2..I've got alot of them and they in my opinion are the best guitar in its price range..if you can try out and Indonesian one..the China built are very different.

Probably still my most wanted guitar for 25-30 years. Amazing!
One of the best N4 demos!
Thankyou! and thanks for watching :)
"Intro music cobbled together by me".... that was sounding awesome!
Thanks man!

rubenreza Awesome! :D Thanks for sharing and watching.
Wow, what a great experience to have!

Proper Vintage! :D
Rob A Don’t let that one go!

Cool. I've never played one. That Pickup in the bridge sounds really hot.
This montage is awesome 👏! Thank you for sharing!

The N3's are fantastic guitars also..actually all the N series are great guitars..I've 2's,3's and 4's.

Been pondering a whammy bar tricks vid for a while...on the queue it goes!
Super playing man.
I'm not really a Strat' guy, but I've wanted one of these since the first time I saw one!!
If you can get your hands on one I highly recommend it..I traded my family for one back in 2006 and never looked back..lol..jk..Great guitars!!!
Monkey Paw at 2:05 is a very cool song! Would you consider doing that song as a "Master That Riff"?
Yeah man! On the list it goes :)
Sweet!
Great playing. Did he use the L500xl or the l500l?
I think a great lesson would be on his “open fret hammer on muted legato” that very specific nuno technique you did it super cool would be a good video I think just some Examples in different places and stuff… when you did it in the intro in your own place it sounded phenomenal!
I have a Padauk 95 one. Still love it.
My N2 can split the coils by popping out the volume knob. Does the N4 not have that feature?
No, not as standard.
what is the best height for the Bill Lawrence pick up?
อยากให้มีกีต้าร์ Washburn รุ่นนี้มีวางจำหน่ายในเมืองไทยในราคาที่คนฐานะพอใช้อย่างผมพอหาซื้อมาเล่นได้บ้างครับ
Why is it that we as guitarist ever time we pick up a signature guitar we play a song from that signature artist? Killer chops btw.
A hardtail , non locking version of that guitar would be awesome to try
I just built one, funnily enough. I’ll post a vid soon.
This is great but i was lucky enough to buy a feb 92 n4 for a great price many years ago. its one guitar il never sell
Gorgeous! The naked guitar that can do it all!
The first thing i had to do on my N4 was move the selector switch behind the Vol knob... when sitting down I would constantly knock it with my leg out of the bridge position. Super annoying. LOL
2:39 song ?
Little take on the riff from Rest In Peace from III sides :)
I’m curious. On the back cutout, what are those two holes by the springs and claw? I saw those on other N4’s. I never saw one in person so I could never figure out what they are for.
Michael Breaux Thanks. I thought maybe that’s what it was but thought the holes looked to far back to be that. Now that I see it, it makes sense.
Michael Breaux Yep. I like my own hands and good old time to “relic” my guitars.
Whats ur both pickup height?
Sorry can't recall as I had the guitar on loan and didn't mess with the setup too much. FWIW with my new N2 though I have the BL USA 500XL setup about 4mm from low (thickest) E string, 5mm from high E string.
@ thank u so much for ur reply sir 🙏🙏🙏
So they don’t put that darker wood on n2’s??
Which bill Lawrence on this guitar bill and Becky or USA bill Lawrence or vintage bill Lawrence can someone tell me pls
@@MrDadyblues Bill Lawrence USA, not B&B not vintage BL
@ is this close or l500
Or l500xl

What’s the song at 1:07? Driving me nuts, thanks. Great playing, love Nuno
Joe Sanders Warheads off III sides :) thanks for checking out the video, appreciate it!
Dang it! I event went through every extreme song’s intro trying to find it, but that army guy intro must have thrown me off, ha. Thanks!
How do you get such a nuno sound gear please if you can?
For the gain sounds I used my Line 6 HELIX LT. I forget if I was going for old skool Nuni Marshall JCM800 with a RAT pedal in front or Soldano vibes like III sides! i seriously need an N4
Any ideas if the recent or past n2 have the same neck profile and dimensions ?
I know it's two years later but I'm writing this anyway... I have a 1994 N4 and a 1991 Korean N2. Necks are identical. They play exactly the same, since I've set them up both to my liking. Where can i find this stuff?
I always wondering how unique this guitar sounds like
Very unique
Got that bettencourt fire man, great playing!
Thanks man! Nuno is such a Hero :)
All the real goos, ebony fretboard the Schiller Floyd and Lawrence 500L. yes all the way the BEST era of the N4 hands down.
🤟🏼🤟🏼🤟🏼
i don't like the cut at the 15th fret: i prefer traditional cut at 17th fret or a dc
One if the few on here who could give Nuno a run for the money 💰
I wish! Thanks for taking the time to check out the video :)
5:43
N4 : one rock guitar in history music in the world
Like strat and tele..or les paul, violin bass etc
Like legacy
5:44 I Like Floyd Rose
Has anyone played the recent ones? I have one from 2017. Awesome guitar!
I have not but I would absolutely love to compare it to my '92 Davies ..
I would love to acquire the snakeskin version that I've seen, but it's well out of my reach. I wouldn't feel bad about altering that one with various experiments to the pickups and hardware and such!
Yeah I have..their great..but they dont feel as good as the mid 2000's that I own..in my opinion the 2006's seem to be the nicest..
Whag about the budget washburn ones?
Rock machine...
I love my N4, but Washburn is a horrible buisness to deal with. They're hard to find cause washburn has a hostile buisness model to deal with them.
Guitar no paint have loud sound..better sustain, vibra
Such a guilty pleasure to imagine this guitar... hopefully it sizes up for a half ass pornograffiti wannabe
I know the 4's are pricey but have you ever tried an N2..I've got alot of them and they in my opinion are the best guitar in its price range..if you can try out and Indonesian one..the China built are very different.
