      Nope. The one I had in my possession was the N4 made of padauk. Toddzilla’s was an early Davies model made of alder. Nuno played both variants pretty regularly early on.

    I bought a Fender strat when i was in my early 20's. Ended up being a stolen guitar, and the original owner was a good customer of mine about 15 years later.... He was talking about the guitar one day, even mentioned the name of the person they thought stole it, which was who I bought it from... I drove home, and brought it back and gave it to him. He still has the guitar to this day!

    That’s very respectful and admirable. You hear about how some people have sold stuff to Nuno (or anyone famous really) who seem to take advantage of the situation. But clearly giving the legend back something that was his for so long is entirely genuine. It’s so rare to find people with that mentality. Cheers.

    What a fantastic story and so respectfully told! You did the right thing by getting his guitar body back to him. I have a Washburn guitar that Nuno autographed during a charity event a couple years ago (I think it was in 2019) He scowled at the Floyd Rose bridge and wanted to know if I'd changed it out (I hadn't) apparently it wasn't his preferred style and I learned that sometimes the parts can get swapped out by retail centers. Regardless, his signature is so bold and spectacular on it. I hope he autographed something for you because his signature is badass! He seems to be very down-to-earth guy for being such a rock legend.

    This was the first and only Paduak made by Stephen Davies before mass produced paduak were made by Washburn. Of course it's a very special guitar to him. The neck was broken during a show and then replaced for a whyle with a maple neck. (The broken neck was sold on eBay by someome that got it in the audience and it was totaly wrecked)
    You can find picture of this body with a new neck. This was when Nuno made his firts solo album back in 1998.
    After that i have never seen this guitar again... surely because it was stolen back then and taken appart...

It is my favorite among all Nuno’s guitars. I always wondered- what happened to it and where did it disappear. So cool of you to share this story, I am super exited! I also had a chance to meet Nuno and to do a short interview back in 2012, and than they invited me to to visit a soundcheck before the show. I had heard a story that Nuno found out the particular wood species was not a sustainable variety and was no longer comfortable "endorsing" its usage in guitars. Hey Herlon! Thanks for watching. I unfortunately never took any additional photos or videos of it. I was actually kind of mad at myself for that, especially when putting this video together long after the fact. Which Facebook group was talking about this body? And yeah, still kind of bummed Nuno hasn’t re-emerged with it. He did says he was likely going to get a new neck for it. I even had Richard Weikum, the Stephen Davies’ old apprentice up in Seattle, WA, willing to build a new neck for it (part of the story I omitted). This was before I found Nuno. After I was contacted by his camp, my focus was to then just get it back home to him ASAP.

    I remember that guitar (Padouk), he used that more than the original (Alder) N4 back in the '92/'93 era. Flannel shirts and Timberland/Doc Martin boots, etc. I always thought that the Padouk N4 looked the best 👍. His original Schecter body, Warmoth neck parstcaster (what washburn based thier 'N' models on) is still, imo, his BEST guitar.....on thier debut album it was black and on Pornographitti it was bare with the reverse Warmoth neck....I dont think the N4's were used until '3 sides to every story' ?
    Thanks for sharing this cool story 👍

  • @figjam9530
    @figjam9530 2 года назад +1

    the N1 and N2 are the budget and mid-range models of the "N" line respectively and as such do not have the Stephens neck joint. the N5 has three single coil pups and the N6 has a bridge humbucker and two singles. the N7 is a seven string and the N3 has no Bill Lawrence pup, only 2 washburn branded humbuckers. tho there was a later VERY limited run of N3s (a run of 20 i believe) that had 2 Bill Lawrence humbuckers. thus, by the process of elimination i would say that body was for an N4. which N4 "issue" would be much harder to ascertain with casual observation as there have been many over the last 30 years.

    Honestly, what should have happened is that after you turned back the $25 compensation (lol at that offer), the rockstar in the luxury neighbourhood should have gotten your details and gone ahead and quietly given you a proper compensation for the effort, regardless, a decent paycheck or valuable instrument from his sponsor etc. The fact this was apparently an important personal item by his own admission and all he did was make a little clip on a phone reflects very poorly on him.

      @fefferofhossen Thanks for also trying to stick up for my side of the fence. But I honestly didn’t mind. I mean, if they’d have offered a new N4, 4N, or Nele, I definitely would not have said no. I can but probably shouldn’t say that I was offered a “nice surprise” in the mail by his management, but nothing never came and I never pried about it. It’s something I’m kind of used to in around Hollywood. I call it the “Hollywood Promise,” which outlines big plans/intentions and no follow through. It’s not Nuno’s fault. He wasn’t part of most of the back-and-forth dialogue. And they did ask what I wanted, and I shrugged it all off bashfully, because I knew that guitar wasn’t rightfully mine anyway. If I made demands, I’d have felt like I were holding it ransom.

      Nuno did talk about getting one of his original N4’s back in Herman’s video, like the first production model. But that wasn’t the one I returned. On the Padauk model I had, there was a stamped serial of 920506 under the trem cavity, which may or may not have been the guitar’s serial (I’m no Washburn expert in any way to declare that’s the guitar’s serial). Nuno also stated in Herman’s interview that the seller of the guitar he bought asked for (and received) a lot for it. As for me, I simply gave it back in exchange for a personalized video to my wife, of which I posted a snipped of in this episode. I guess I could have gone for gold on returning this to him, but that didn’t feel right to me. It was his, point blank.

      Don’t take this as me trying to push you, but with my experience in social media (streaming and some old youtube videos) I found it a lot easier to build a fan base if you have a set amount of time between each video, especially when it comes to guitar. Some channels like Marty music have them every day, while others might only release one each month. But usually this will give your supporters a video to look forward to each time period. A way you could advertise this would be in your channel description or opening video. Just a suggestion though so don’t take it too seriously. Can’t wait for you to get big!

That all said, I’m working on my presentation skills as I’ve probably trashed more videos than I care to admit since I seemingly have this “issue” of words coming out of my mouth differently than how I’m thinking I’m saying them. It makes editing a real nasty ordeal when the lines are way way off. 😂 While I’m trying to keep my channel curse-word free, the studio is hearing its fair share of expletives when I playback what I shot. If a seller wants to meet me at any place other than their home I would be suspicious, when I've sold guitars or amps I've always given the buyer my home address that way he can be sure that the gear wasn't stolen and saved me the hassle of delivering it. How many times have we read about a well known musician's guitar being stolen? It's surprising that he wanted such a tiny amount for the axe.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  2 года назад

      You're absolutely right. I'm not sure what city you live in or near, but Los Angeles is a super strange place - especially right now. I've had some sketchy people show up to my house to buy gear,. Based upon their body language and past experiences, I'm just not comfortable bringing people here anymore because of what's here (wife, kids, and heaps of gear). I obviously have some major trust issues, which is why I usually go moderately 'prepared' for someone to act recklessly with malintent.
      I actually used to be an operations manager for a large music store chain, which you'll probably guess 'who' on first try. The store I worked at then wasn't in CA, predating my move here. There was one morning where the alarm company called me to let me know there was movement in the store at 3AM. So I hauled my butt over there immediately, arriving in under 10-minutes. The thieves drove their car through the wall to get in, and were successful in grabbing our most collectable guitars displayed throughout the store. We never got any of it back, where we speculated they were likely deported out of the country right after. The thieves also broke into other local M.I. shops that night too, grabbing their vintage and custom shop gear. Two stores that night, mine included, each lost an actual 1962 Fender Stratocaster. So we know they were shopping us all before they made their move.
      That all said, I carry that occurrence in my mind decades later. So unless I've worked with the person before, I'd rather meet them at a local Starbucks, or wherever there's plenty of people with my Katana Air, Yamaha THR5, Blackstar Fly3. or even my multimeter. But unfortunately for me, I've thrown caution to the wind and set myself up many times for something terrible to happen to me ...like in this very story. I tend to justify it in my head by sending my GPS coordinates to my best friend and keeping him on a call in my ear through AirPods so he can call 9-1-1 if need be. Still... I do accept the 'dumb' in my poorly thought through actions.

    • @11thFret
      @11thFret  Год назад

      Haha. You’ve spotted my insecurities. 😂
      As I’m sort-of kidding, RUclips editing breaks the rules of film editing practices. Jump cuts can be acceptable for many as it allows the flow of the dialogue to run quicker. As RUclips has so much content by way of a simple click, people have found that gaps in audio can cater to a viewer leaving. Now, this video was an earlier one for the channel. I couldn’t stand listening to my quick, deep breaths in between lines. I’m working on ‘allowing’ that to happen by getting over myself a bit. But sometimes it’s just bad lines cut out, as I may speak the same/similar sentence 3-4 times. Plus, I can sometimes mumble or stutter. “Sometimes” translates to “quite a bit”. C’est la vie. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

This story makes me feel like going to his fan site- I'm sure he has one- and telling him I think he's a pompous ungrateful dick. Like you I respect his ability but was never grabbed by his work with "Extreme." More like "just another formula pop-metal hair band."

      Thanks Mark! I was actually briefed by his manager before driving over there, giving me a heads up over what to expect and not to expect. I don't want to paint any picture that he was ungrateful, but we were also in the throws of COVID at the time. He was basically being super cautious, considering we didn't know each other. Vaccines were just rolling out, I'm in Los Angeles where people commonly freak out over everything, etc. He was actually pretty chill. Part of me wondered if I could have squeaked out a comped guitar, like his "Nele" which had just come out. But I felt a little ick just thinking of me pulling that kind of extortion. His video to my wife was plenty, considering a Cameo appearance would likely cost a lot more. I was just happy to get it home.
      ...To Nuno and company: If you're reading this, I wouldn't turn away an N4 or Nele if offered. ;-)

    Yeah !
    Why not just give it to his manager.
    Why hold him hostage for a meeting and then with out permission film him and his house.
    Not cool man.
    Your little routine did fool Nuno, his manager, nor does it fool me !

      Because his manager is on the east coast and I’m a 10-minute drive away from Nuno’s house. Plus, I’d have been happy to hand it to anyone at his house as I’d been texting with his cousin about it’s return, but Nuno answered the door.
      But thanks for watching anyway and doing your best to fill in some blanks that I had omitted from the video.

    3:38 I love that you took the street view of the actual park and ride and put it in the video... 😹
    I looked at it on Google Maps, and this is my favorite part of the whole park and ride... THE IRONY

      Totally! I wasn’t going to include a picture at all when I was editing. When I decided to do it, I didn’t want to drive back up there just to get one. So yeah, you got me there for using Google Street View.
      What’s hilarious is the Imgur photo you attached. I backed into that exact space where all that furniture junk in the photo is piled. Your picture is better. 😂

      @@11thFret Oh, that's hilarious! I was imagining myself in your shoes and figured you'd parked as close to the front as you could, on the west side, facing east, so you had a straight a shot out of there and in the direction of traffic (eastbound) as you could possibly have.
      Thankfully, times have changed, and so many police departments have started providing designated "safe Trade" zones...
