    Holly has an entire room (I sneak peek it in the video) that she is transforming into her walk in closet/beauty room so she wanted to get creative with the closet that we demo’ed when making over her master. I love how easy using copper pipe is and I show you a way to not spend as much since yes it does it pricey. This is the perfect project for the weekend warrior as it only took me a total of 8 hours to make and install (would’ve been shorter if I didn’t film it) so hopefully that gives you a bit of confidence to give it a go! Remember you got this xx.

    Her fitness closet??? How very Khloé Kardashian of you! She's the only person I've ever seen with a full on, walk-in fitness closet, but hers looked more like a boutique store. Even if she worked out 4x a day, 6 days a week she would still never wear any of her workout gear twice. The black/copper pipe closet is definitely a vibe.

  • @carsonokeeffe
    @carsonokeeffe 4 года назад +5

    Do not do this. Copper cannot support a significant amount of weight. As you can see, Rachel has styled this closet to only have very few lightweight items on it. If you are hanging your actual wardrobe, this will not work. I say this out of experience. Unfortunately, being a big fan of Rachel’s, I saw this video and wanted to do it. I spent hours designing my copper system, price shopping at my hardware stores, and measuring. When I finally went to buy it, a Home Depot employee told me that copper would bend and snap under the weight of clothes. He advised against even using the thickest copper for a closet rod. He said I could insert steel into the copper and use steel elbows spray painted copper, but this set up weighs a TON in addition to the clothes you’re putting on it and it’s also substantially more expensive when you’re purchasing both copper and steel. You can’t use wooden dowels to reinforce it because then you’d have no elbows - the copper elbows won’t hold the weight of your clothes and the wooden dowel, and even if you were going to make an attempt, you would HAVE to solder the copper. I spoke to five different Home Depot employees about this and finally googled it and found the same info (don’t use copper as a closet rod) in multiple forums. I wasted hours attempting this DIY only to learn it’s not plausible. It looks fancy and nice if you’re going to hang five t shirts from it as Rachel displays, but if you’re going to hang dresses, suits, etc, you can’t do it. I’m disappointed, Rachel. At no point in the video do you address the limitations of copper, giving the impression anyone can do this. Prior to this video, I was really loyal to your DIYs but now I’m going to look at everything you do with a level of skepticism, wondering “is that for real, or is it for show?” 😕

    The iron flange will likely have a reaction with the copper pipe, the zinc on the flange and the copper cause a reaction. In plumbing that’s a big no-no.

      I mentioned it in the video - miscalculation but since I already wasted half the copper I bought I just DIY'ed around it. I will go back in and extend when I do her bathroom.

      @@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz you didn't fix the pipe in the tees either? It doesn't take much to solder pipe. And you don't need an hammer to pop it in.

      @@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz you could put some 2*3 /1*2 CLS and drill holes for pipe to sit in. Secure to studs. Would make shelves so much stronger.
