Hi Loves! I would love to know if you liked this more "vloggy in depth" style of tutorial! I can 100% do more of these for larger scale projects so give this comment a thumbs up if you would like to see more! (ALSO, the total cost of this project is in the description box if you are curious!)
Definitely love seeing u out and about shopping. There’s a lot of time u put into these projects I did not realize how time consuming it can be. U always make it look so fast and easy.
He has amazing ideas, but honestly, I think he still has some improvement to make to go straight to Netflix. His finitions aren't the best, yet. That being said, he's still really good and has really really great ideas ^^
I’m obsessed with rattan everything at the moment so love this diy. I kind of think not being able to remove the glass is a blessing in disguise, it’s an added layer of protection for the things inside so they won’t get as dusty.
Right? I would leave the glass in on purpose because I hate when everything gets dusty. This way you can even vacuum the rattan with the nozzlebrush because its sturdy.
Only problem I see is if you live in a high humidity area. Even with the air conditioning on my closets get musty inside if I don't leave the doors slightly open. The cane in furniture was meant to allow air flow so the contents inside don't get mildewed or musty before air conditioning was invented. Obviously where Drew lives this is not a problem and has the advantages you mentioned of keeping things dust free. I'm going to try this DIY but for my situation I need the air flow of the cane. So glad Drew did this DIY.
One thought: if you want to use a wider mesh cane, you could use brush-on glass frosting or frosted film or Contact paper. It would knock the shine right down. I agree with the commenter who said having the glass in place will help help keep the inside of the cabinet and it’s contents from getting dusty.
I love the longer DIYs on larger items! It shows more detail and is easier to follow! It’s also helpful to see how to do a more useful item like the book case! Good job! It turned out wonderfully!
I agree! It also helps to keep dust out.. I have 3 dogs so I appreciate any shelving that has doors or glass on it to keep fur and dust from getting on everything
The good part of this tutorial is that is easy enough for someone without a ton of tools. A lovely piece for beginners. I think removing the glass would have been possible, but not really necessary and as others have mentioned helps keep dust from collecting inside the book case.
@@She.Follows.The.Sun. Thrift stores are awsome though because then you make it your own due to thrift stores generally only having one of a kind pieces. Hey dude, i really like your vids. Love your up-cycle projects! Safety-wise...I would really love to see you using gloves and a mask when dealing with epoxy. You use it often and it worries me every time. In the woodworking trade we have a principle that goes like this: "if you there is a substance that have the same properties then a known toxic one, use the lesser toxic substance." this goes for toxicity for humans, animals and nature in general. Always choose the lesser toxic one. (In Denmark, woodworkers and not allowed to use epoxy unless they have completed a safety course in how to handle it) Epoxy is great for a lot of things and when it's hardened, it's stable and wont de-gas. There's many kinds of epoxy, but common among them is during the application of it, it releases fumes that are known to contain carcinogens and contact with your skin can lead to rashes and allergies towards any product containing Isocyanates (the active substance in epoxy and MANY other things). Also if you heat it up again, it will release these fumes. So say fx. cutting it with a power saw, drill or the like, fumes release again. Also the fine dust when sanding is bad. When in our private homes we don't deal to often with these toxins, but I often see DIY'ers use the stuff a lot because it's strong and convenient, but you are running a risk. Please please Please, wear a gloves and a mask when dealing with it. Keep up the content and stay safe my guy :D
Drew, I would love to see DIY versions of trendy Anthropologie/Restoration Hardware furniture! Similar to this concept with other boho/rattan trendy items that are SO overpriced at most stores! One of my favorite DIY's yet :)
I really love these longer format DIYs! The quick and easy ones are cute, but these bigger projects are the ones that give you a really great, quality new home piece!
Omg this turned out ahmazing! Who else can’t freaking wait for the day the Drew buys a house and we get a full series of home remodel/decor vids from him. It will literally be my home dreams embodied.

This idea would work if you applied the fabric to the glass with a decoupage technique. This would prevent the fabric from sagging over time. Plus decoupage dries clear as well.

you have to completely mix the epoxy somewhere else first, and then apply it. if you just squeeze from the tube like at 7:17, they don't mix properly and epoxy that isn't properly mixed doesn't properly cure. It looks beautiful tho!
I think the type of epoxy he got has a double syringe and is in instant mix, so it mixes in equal amounts of resin and hardener so you don’t have to mix it elsewhere(: I know for other epoxies that you want to mold or apply you have to mix it, but even on the company website it says it creates the adhesive regardless because of the application mechanism(:

That is absolutely one of the most brilliant hacks I've seen with the Billy bookcase, incredibly elegant and would fit in just about any room or with any decor, love the fact that you gave detailed instructions and what type of materials to use, love the longer format, wish you all the best with it
This is so well done. You have a great eye and mad skills that can't be taught, (I sound old, yup, I am), and yes, you should definitely do more of these. Curious if you attended design school?
I love this style of vlog. I love seeing your thinking process through it all and how you overcame obstacles. This piece is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
I like the in depth DIY. Sometimes you guys are so good at this, that it feels like I’m watching a magic trick! This is all new to me, so the more information, processes & techniques that you share, the more I learn. It’s challenging for me to imagine the creative possibilities. It’s even more challenging to actually bring the design to fruition. The devil is in the details & it’s hard sometimes to explain the steps that are seemingly natural. I thank you for the break down, it’s helpful, IMO. The great thing is that people can fast forward to skip ahead if the pace is too slow. However, as a beginner learns, the smaller steps are like the thread that strings the project together. It’s my yellow brick road 🤓
It's weird how almost everyone in my country(India) is throwing out cane furniture because it's "old" and "ancient" and it's trending in other places lol XD
Omg . I wanna kiss your hands of gratitude 😩👏🙏😍😍 wow!!! I always wanted a cabinet like this but they are so expensive. But now I can make my own. Thank you so much
I would be that person that would find this furniture years later at the thrift store and be like *gasp* "someone covered up these beautiful glass doors. I wonder if I could strip it off..."
He was alone so he wouldn't have needed Covid mask in any case ( if his roommate was filming that's OK as they are a household anyway)! He needs a mask to protect from outgassing fumes during gluing & painting, sanding etc., otherwise he's going to mess up his lungs for the future or even risk cancer.
Wow, adding that cane strip edging makes a huge upgrade. Great idea. I was pondering doing exactly the same thing. Thanks for making it happen in the real world. Thanks for sharing. Lucky to live in an area where IKEA and Cane is available. My IKEA runs are 4.5 hours each way. Good thing they have lunch there. lol. The downside of living remote. It is so neat that you are sharing knowledge with a fellow flipper/upcycling creative. I love these furniture flipping people. Not having cut throat attitudes is rare these days. Such a pleasure to watch. As for the vlog vs. instructional video format, both are awesome.
I appreciate that you went to the cane store and supported a local business instead of just ordering on amazon (which would admittedly be easier)!! Great video

that literally looks so perfect. I would never have known it wasn't the real thing
Yeees I would like to see more videos like this. Snd by the way, drew, all your projects are amazing
Yes please.... btw I’ve been using only gorilla glue sticks since you (I think) mentioned it on a previous video... it works sooooo much better than other glue sticks.
Awesome, awesome, awesome !!!!!! I always wanted one of those but like you said, they can get very pricey...but now I can make one myself and get the look AND stay in my budget!!!!! Also, I think getting the bookshelf in that natural wood finish was actually perfect and probably better than the beige one!! Oh and btw, I hadn’t watched any videos in a while but I definitely missed watching yours!!! Always cool, fun, well made, with tons of beautiful DIYs!!! Oh and you always crack me up at some point in every video!!! I love your personality !!! Ok I’m gonna stop now but great job!!! Lol!!
Yes - watched the whole video - great project and so glad you went with the beach colour ... looks better than the lighter one would have. Loved that you are using three birds renovation book ... those girls are amazing.
That is absolutely one of the most brilliant hacks I've seen with the Billy bookcase, incredibly elegant and would fit in just about any room or with any decor, love the fact that you gave detailed instructions and what type of materials to use, love the longer format, wish you all the best with it
Thank you so much!
IM ACTUALLY SHOOK HOW THIS TURNED OUT FSFSFS GOING TO DO THIS !
❤️❤️❤️
Great job! I would put different knobs on it though. Those were too plain. Just found your channel! Love it!
I love the simplicity of the handles. They allow the cane to be the star. I'm so glad he left the handles.
This is so well done. You have a great eye and mad skills that can't be taught, (I sound old, yup, I am), and yes, you should definitely do more of these. Curious if you attended design school?
I watched you for the first time and loved this video. I am in my 70’s and have redone a lot of furniture and yes, I did pick up some tips.
I love this style of vlog. I love seeing your thinking process through it all and how you overcame obstacles. This piece is beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Your videos deserve more views😭💯💯❤️ GIFTED HANDS 😻
“Here’s my lovely 100lbs of wood.”
Oh myyy 😅
Ten videos ago: wtf is cane
Two hours later: Ah yes, cane, the mother of all Lone Fox DIY projects!
hahahahaha
Great ideas! I can't believe they are all coming out from one person. You are in a class by yourself.
I feel like you read my mind, I was just looking at this on pinterest
It's weird how almost everyone in my country(India) is throwing out cane furniture because it's "old" and "ancient" and it's trending in other places lol XD
I can't afford the rattan sooooo I guess I can use a loose burlap and wood edge veneer!
Omg .
I wanna kiss your hands of gratitude 😩👏🙏😍😍 wow!!! I always wanted a cabinet like this but they are so expensive. But now I can make my own.
Thank you so much
It looks beautiful. Please make more videos like this. I just love them. Thanks for sharing
I would be that person that would find this furniture years later at the thrift store and be like *gasp* "someone covered up these beautiful glass doors. I wonder if I could strip it off..."
i was like ' why isn't he wearing a mask???' til I realized this was before covid lol
Wait am I first😳
Wow, adding that cane strip edging makes a huge upgrade.
Great video
TY Kara!!
@@lonefox (no shade intended on ordering from amazon lol we all do it) The project looks STUNNING tho!!
