1. Realize your thoughts Identify triggers or what is causing the anxiety. Walk yourself through your thoughts and recognize the irrational aspects- trying to talk back to them. 2. Be open to receiving help It’s okay to accept and seek help. You don’t have to handle everything on your own even if you “can”. There are people and professionals who care about your emotional state and would love to help. 3. Cultivate a support system Chatting with like-minded individuals who also are battling anxiety will help remind us we are not alone and offer new perspectives to our problems and concerns. 4. Get moving Physical activity will help us de-stress and focus on accomplishing hard things; which may take our mind off of the problems we are facing in our life instead of dwelling on them. Endorphins released during exercise will make us feel better and happier! 5. Be gentle with yourself and practice self care Indulge in as much self care as you need! Self compassion, self love, and self care are all things to focus on. Treat yourself with kindness and in the same way you would treat your best friend. This includes internal thoughts and self talk 😊
I wish I could do a strenuous work out to relieve my anxiety, but I suffer from exercise induced panic attacks. Anything that raises my heart rate or makes it hard to breathe is a trigger. It's leisurely walking, biking, or yoga for me! Just wanted to put it out there that it is a real thing, and if anyone else feels uneasy while working out, you may be suffering the same.
Jennifer LaCasse I really feel you, I have the same problem. What really works for me is yoga ( obviously) and pilates at home as it's mostly floor based so you can still feel your muscles working without all the jumping, dizziness and the feeling your heart is going to stop. Sorry for my english, but I hope it will help you a little bit.
I recently just read about the same problem that you are having. In was in a book called "Spark". I highly recommend because they talk about Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in combatting exercise induced panic attacks. Pilates, yoga, walking, all that you mentioned are definitely good alternatives to strenuous work outs. Just thought I would share this with you. I wish you the best.
Hey starshine ! I have had the same problems like you. Ever since I had a tachycardia two years ago I have anxiety, surrounding health based issues, especially high heart rate or the feeling of suffocation. For me working out definitely was very tough in the beginning, but I know that the fitter I get, the less stress working out will be. I really highly recommend you learning about different breathing exercises to calm your breathing and heart rate. If you breathe into your tummy your vegetative nerve system will slow down and you'll feel much calmer. For me what really helped was to learn how to trust my body again. This only works by going through things, doing things alone and battling through them. I know panic attacks are the most scariest things ever, but step by step you will learn to understand your body. Take a look at Mel Robbins "The Secret to stopping Fear and Anxiety", which is a scientific way to trick your mind around panicking. It really helped me on my way. I wish you all the best ! We can do it, our body only wants to protect us, we just have to tell him, that we're grateful for that and there is nothing, that he has to protect us from in that moment :) xx Maria
You're welcome ! Yes me too, we're all on our own paths of going through things, but we all have the strength to do so within us, otherwise we wouldn't be here !
I love this self care series of yours. You have wonderful ideas and advice for others. I am a therapist and I use a lot of these techniques with my clients. I look forward for more.
Carrie, new subscriber here and I just wanted to share the fact that twice now while watching one of your videos I’ve had this moment of utter peace and contentment, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced honestly. Like a feeling of zen that I didn’t know existed - all anxiety, doubts, negative self talk, thoughts of the future, thoughts of the past, everything just melts away and I just feel...so so content. I’m so grateful to have experienced it twice now and both times it happened while watching one of your videos! (Today it was towards the end of this one and a while ago it was during your meditation video.) Just wanted to say thanks love, something about your energy clearly helps to put my very being at ease. 🤗💕
Also I clicked on this thinking “I don’t have anxiety but I’ll watch it anyway” but hearing you talk about this made me realize how many thoughts I have that I didn’t even realize were a problem. This advice is so good for EVERYONE!
I appreciate the authenticity in sharing your ideas that worked for you! As a counselor who practices dialectical behavior therapy, I have found that grounding skills are great for anxiety. My favorite one is the 54321 technique where you name 5 things you can see, 4 things you can feel, 3 things you can hear, 2 things you can smell, and one good thing about yourself. This one is great for shifting your focus to the present moment :)
Heather Louise Life Coach love this! I have been telling myself what I’m grateful for and I have mantras that I speak to myself. It has helped but I’ll have to try this method. Thanks for sharing
As always, Carrie, awesome advice! I have suffered with anxiety for about 8 years and it has gotten exponentially better in the last year and a half. I had some issues with toxic people in my life and an unhealthy job and walking away from all of that has helped me so much! I still get those moments where my mind goes to the WCS, but I bring it back and tell myself that it isn’t reality and to focus on what is REALLY happening! Sad to see this series end but excited for the upcoming one! Hugs!
So hard to be compassionate with yourself. And even harder when those around you tell you are selfish, or "that it is all in your head". especially when you have been through it before, down to the words and you know what is going to happen. thanks for this.
I loved this!! I’ve been struggling with anxiety lately and even though I’m in therapy for it, it still sucks sometimes. But this helps a lot so thank you ❤️❤️
I do LOVE to workout. I was used to doing to 6 days a week. But then I had developed this weird thing called “Tinnitus” (due to excessive stress and anxiety)where if something makes my heartbeat elevate it’s gonna make the sound worse. It’s a sound in the brain which you hear 24/7. That’s the worse you can get honestly. I feel bad for myself. I would never wish anyone to have it so anyone reading this: worry less, don’t stress, self talk to manage your anxiety and self care. That’s the best gift you can give to yourself. 💕
I totally agree on the importance of compassion and self care. Meditation works beautifully with anxiety because we make that fundamental step back from our thoughts and emotions. Thanks 😊
This video is all that I need right now! I'm a college student and about to graduate in less than two years. I have been getting anxious about getting internships and looking for a career after university. Will definitely take the day off to do some self-care ❤️😊
wonderful advice and video. I cant believe June is over. This series has been amazing. Thank you for all your hard work this month. It was totally worth it and appreciated. You are the best Carrie.
Thank you so much Carrie for sharing your healthy habits / focusing more on self care! I cannot express enough how much I needed to hear these words and fully understand the importance behind self love and knowing how to deal with anxiety in a healthy way. I am truly grateful for all of your hard work towards these videos, it has been life changing! Much love! 💛
I would like to share my story with anxiety here. Well for me anxiety happens (mostly) when I start to feel jealous. Jealousy is a very big problem for me, I can not fight it and it's killing me inside, so everytime I get these bad thoughts I get mad. And unbearable is fact that I have no control then, it takes over me. Even if I understand that what I feel is irrational I keep on feeling it. After a while it stransforms into inferiority and become a circle which I can't escape. It is a big challange for my relationship and for myself. This is my story I really feel like sharing here. Your videos are very inspirational a thank you very much for your words.
so ironic, I was considering making my video this week about anxiety too haha. on another note tho, loved and appreciated self care summer so much! can't wait to enjoy the love your life series 😊💖
Sad for #selfcaresummer to come to a close! I’ve enjoyed and cherished this series so much. Before your #selfcaresummer introduction video, I had never seen your channel; now I’m hooked. Excited to see what else you’ll come up with!
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series, thank you for creating it. Very much looking forward to love your life. I binged watched some of your old videos the other day, and have now added The Alchemist to my next book to read. Currently half way through Eat Pray Love, I enjoyed the film so though I’d give the book ago. Also added Rupi Kaur, never been one on poetry before, but going to give a whirl.xx
Thank you so much for this! I have a lot of anxiety about decision making - I think it stems from perfectionism and wanting to make the perfect decision. What really helps is just to go with whatever I was first drawn to, or first thought of- it's usually what I actually want or what will actually work.
Watching this video for probably the fifth time since it was published. I like going back to what this and remind myself of the wisdom shared in this video. I have finally started to write down the tips shared so I can always have them with me. ❤️
It’s interesting how you position this as many of your recommendations actually cause me more anxiety. Socializing? That’s probably the most anxiety inducing thing I could do. Exercise, especially really strenuous exercise makes me panic. To me, sweating is awful and completely dreadful. Being out with people makes me constantly compare myself against them. So while I appreciate your intentions, I’m not sure they are always the best anxiety relievers. That being said, I do think that just knowing yourself, finding what allows you to relax and find peace may be the best way to reduce anxiety. Whether it’s a hobby, it’s exercise, it’s connecting with another person, just find that one thing that will help ground you and that will help you reduce anxiety.
Mcdiem1 I think the video was more tailored to Generalized Anxiety Disorder and you seem to be talking about Social Anxiety. Coping methods are very different for both, so yes, please do find what works for you and go to that when you feel anxious.
This series is incredible!!! I’m so impressed with your productivity, endless creativity and the fact that these videos are such a high standard even though you’re making one every second day! 😍
I really needed this today! I'm a bit late to watch it, but I'm so grateful I watched it today. I've had irrational anxiety all day, & this helped me realize that I'm being too hard on myself. Thank you! :)
Thank you so much for such an amazing video. I also did a full week of anxiety related videos on my channel but it's in French :) When I was in a toxic relationship I had panic attacks every other day. At the time I went to the ER a few times too. They runned so many tests and they didn't know I was having a panic attack because I was that super chill / relax type of girl. Those tips are amazing , especially the support system. Again, thank you Carrie ❤️
I do need 2 acknowledge your innate understanding of anxiety, its triggers and also point of origin. That said some of us do NOT have support systems as you suggest. Try as I might, If be hard pressed 2 find anyone in my vast family with the compassion or even willingness 2 understand depression or anxiety. They r not qualified listeners. Moreover they prefer it that way. Also finding an intelligent and insightful therapist is crucial as u suggest but much easier said than done. Support is paramount, but the right support is key.
Yep panicked attacks are intense I will recommend William blooms book on psychic protection (don't judge by title) he has a ton of very useful techniques to do grounding and has helped, also use mala beads to do self talk to nget my self out of it. Hope you check out the book Carrie I know you'll love his literature.
1. Realize your thoughts

You're so right, it really is so irrational, it's like our instinct. Understanding ourselves and recognizing our needs can make such a difference
lattesdarling self care and understanding without judging ourselves knowing it not our fault that things happen.
So hard to be compassionate with yourself. And even harder when those around you tell you are selfish, or "that it is all in your head". especially when you have been through it before, down to the words and you know what is going to happen. thanks for this.
