I hope this channel doesn't get cancelled. Mark is exposing this industry. I stopped watching a lot of self help people because they just want you to keep consuming their content. Mark actually wants you to grow, not by telling you what to do, but by actually waking you up.

Well... He is making a podcast. I bet he would for you to keep watching.
Which is fine, there is always room to grow you know. You don't reach level max and suddenly stop needing any improvement

Such a fun discussion! (Would love to have someone to have this kind discussion too, I guess It's time to mingle around despite my anxious self). But anyway thank you so much for both of you because this episode feels pretty grounding, and such a big reminder esp for me, to be more authentic and to LET other people be authentic too (Often advice people too much lol). Gonna be waiting for other episodes!

I liked going to summer camp! Hahaha seminars are like that, and as someone who has been a therapist and a group leader I’ve seen that same phenomenon of the social group being just that which moved people towards what ever they where looking for. One problem is the withdrawal after the group, seminar or camp especially we return to isolation. Fyi had a stack of your first book on my shelf when I worked with veterans they loved it!

Thise bullet points the Subtle art really helped a lot!
Also, Infeel that when people get antsy aboout being told what to do, is a consent/want thing.
If I'm asking someone to tell me what to do, I'm open to said thing. If someone just tells me to do the thing, but I didnt ask, it feels like its being pushed onto me, and I'm not gonna like it.
I agree with the "therapy doesnt scale well" - each thing has its applied setting where it works and where it doesnt.
As for society going back and forth between pleasure the discipline, I feel thats normal. As is with everything in life, its a cycle when somethings popular, then not. Then it comes back. - its interesting.
    I always appreciate the videos!

To your point about ping ponging between self fulfillment and self denial. I wonder how much of that has to do with the need for resilience on a societal scale. When times are hard and resources are scarce, resilience and grit are valued by society. Conversely, prosperity cultivates a self-fulfilling attitude in society. It can't be a coincidence that the baby boomer generation was the first generation to grow up in a post-war industrialized America.

Do you genuinely endorse better help as a company? Why or why not? They’ve had some pretty alarming claims about their practices and their quality of treatment so I’m surprised to see an ad for them here.
