The germans were actually around 30 kilometres from paris at the start of ww1 but then there was a gap in between the armies and they were forced to retreat and dig trenches

Austria-Hungary is the most underrated in my opinion they had 14 different languages in their army and still spanked Italy and Russia. But Bulgaria was pretty hardcore.

I don’t think that Austria-Hungary did so bad in ww1. Sure they failed to invade Serbia but some side Aspects are being overshadowed. For example there were just as many troops on the Austrians side as on the Serbian side fighting on the Serbian front additionally ww1 introduced trench warfare in which it was very hard to make any territorial gains, which meant resources were the winning factor. When Bulgaria joined in 1915 the Serbians did not had enough troops to fight on two fronts which resulted in their defeat. But the Serbians fought really well. Then shortly after Austria-Hungary defeated Albania with its remaining troops on the Balkan front. On the West Italy was fighting against the Austrians. Austria-Hungary was holding their defense but still suffered minor defeats. When the divisions from the Balkans arrived Austria-Hungary could finally Launch a counter Attack which Pushed back the Italians and destroyed their Progress they had made since their entry of the war and during the last stages of the war they completely destroyed the Italians together with German support at the Battle of Copporeto. On The Russian Front in 1914 they made a miscalculated Attack which led to their early territorial losses, they then began to recover their losses and Push the Russians Back. The Russians responded with the Brussilov Offensive in which they used up almost all of their resources. During this Offensive Romania joined the war which was defeated by the Austrians in 3 Months, when the Russians ran out of supplies the Austrians pushed them Back ones again and shortly after Russia collapsed. At the end of the war with Bulgarias Surrender to Greece the Austrians still had to fight Italy and now Greece. Shortly after Revolts within the Empire Teared it down. Overall The Austrians had to fight on THREE fronts which meant no Country had to fight the Full force Of Austria-Hungary, they also had major Language Issues because their army was made up from Austrians, Hungaryans, Czechs, Slovaks, Poles, Ukrainians, Slovens, Croats, Romanians, Italians and Bosnians. With an army made up from that many Languages they had to fight Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, Greece, British troops, French troops, Russia, Romania, Italy and American troops (they helped the Italians).
