Would people in Germany really pronounce the A of "acker " separately like that? They wouldn't run Mertes and acker into a flowing single word?
We wouldn't combine Mertes and acker as you suggested, because then that would result in saying -sacker and that we would not say, because "Acker" is a separate German word.
Acker means field, Mertesacker means "Merte's field". (Mertes is modification of the name Martin)
Thats intereating. In English - and I think most other European languages - the words would run together. Take, for Example the English town of Sevenoaks - made up of Seven (the number) and Oaks (the trees). No one would say Seven-Oaks with the O pronounced seperately, its all run together. If someone did that in German would it be thought odd? Lazy?
I just realized, that I'd say Sevenoaks like there were two separate words lol
I guess it is how you're used to it.
Thanks for teaching me how to say it correctly in English :-)
