    This is the BEST overview of the new 7 seat MY to date. Now I wish we had the 7 seat Y. When our grandkids visit or when we visit them the option to use ONE vehicle to carry 6 pax (as a family) would be priceless. Now when we sightsee we have to take two vehicles limiting our time with our SIL/DAU and grandkids. We are keeping our 2017 Volt as a sidekick to our Y when we need to transport 6 pax. Thanks so much for this video. Super informative and love your presentation as well. I subscribed.

      @@LockettTech I currently have a model 3 that we’ve had for about 3 years now and we just had our third kid in January. We were leaning mostly towards the x because I still have 1 rear facing car seat to contend with. For the Y to work, I need to be able to fit that rear facing seat and booster seat in the back

    • @jonathansage2147
      @jonathansage2147 3 года назад +1

      @@marcaupont9145 rear facing seats won't fit in the third row of the y or the x. We keep our 3 and 4.5 year old in the third row of our x and our 9 month old baby rides in the second row.
      We have two 6 seat x's. We tried an overnight test drive with the 7 seat y prior to buying the second x. It's just not as convenient as the 6 seat x. Our kids hated it and we tried three different car seat configurations. The second x is 2018 100d that we got used from Tesla for $60k. They bent over backwards to make it perfect. I'd really recommend that route over the y.

    • @marcaupont9145
      @marcaupont9145 3 года назад

      @@jonathansage2147 thanks for that thorough comment. I have a 5 and 7 year old as well as a 4 month old. My expected configuration would be to put the 7 year old and 5 year old in the third row and the baby in the second row. This would allow us to still access the third row without dealing with a car seat that would prevent third row access.
      We test drove a 6 seat model x and absolutely loved it. We are big road trip people and I want the kids to be comfortable. I mainly considered the Y because of price and availability although it seems new orders are at least 6-8 weeks out at the moment. I wanted to consider a used X to lessen the blow of the cost but it’s hard to buy older tech when there is new tech on the horizon. In addition to this, I really love the idea of the kids watching movies on the new rear screen of the new X’s during trips

    • @jonathansage2147
      @jonathansage2147 3 года назад

      @@marcaupont9145 I totally get wanting the newest tech. My X is a 2020 with all the bells and whistles. My wife didn't want to spend as much, so we went the used route for hers. It was $60k less than mine (mine is also performance and hers is not, so that's part of it). We had the MCU upgraded the same day we took delivery so it would still have most of the latest tech. I think the only tech related thing that didn't get us is hold mode, so I'd look into when the hardware that enabled hold mode was added. It's been a really nice compromise honestly.
      If you're doing a lot of road trips, I really can't recommend the 7 seat Y for the sake of comfort. My kids really didn't like it - yours may be more tolerant, but our car seat configuration tests were really only about 20 minutes each and you're talking about long drives. The 6 seat X is just worlds better for leg room and comfort.
      With the used X we went from order to car in hand within less than 2 weeks and it came from several thousand miles away. If you go that route, make sure you read Tesla's used vehicle standards, we were able to get them to repair a ton of cosmetic damage without any cost to ourselves.
      Right now I suspect that the first refreshed Xs are unlikely to be delivered this year. They're focusing on delivering the refreshed S and those are dated as July. I think absolute best case scenario you're looking at end of Q4. If you're not already in line, I'd guess more like 2022 Q2. Because of the new landscape display and the rear screen there will definitely be larger tech changes. However, if you've even considered the Y, a used X compares quite favorably to a new Y.

    Love the video. My wife and I tested the 7 seat option and didn’t think it was a good fit for our situation as normal sized adults can’t get back in there and neither can a car seat. So we went with the 5 seat option :). Enjoy the car!

    • @LockettTech
      @LockettTech  3 года назад

      Thanks for the support! Your car seat didn't fit in the 3rd row? I definitely don't think the 3rd row is the ideal place for a car seat...not a lot of room to work in back there buckling them in. Booster seats are very doable though as long as they can buckle themselves.

Not sure where the heating elements are exactly but it warms the entire wheel. Phenomenal video, your video is the only one I’ve seen where you demonstrate having kids placed in the 3rd row. I really like that because now I have a big decision to make myself. I currently have a 3P on order and found out today that basically production is at a stand still with the 3 and the Y and looks like Y orders will be delivered late May and 3 orders will be in June sometime. With my parents moving in with us in June, I could really use the 7 seater as I have a 3 yr old and almost 6 year old. But, this is Y (no pun) I really want Tesla to make a performance 7 seater. If I’m hauling more folks, I want more power. Although I’m aware the LR is capable, I would still prefer more umph. Great video y’all. I thoroughly enjoyed it and you’ve gained a subscriber.

    • @LockettTech
      @LockettTech  3 года назад

      Thank you for the support! I honestly don't see them making a MYP in the 7 config. That said you can always get the LR and add the Acceleration Boost (spoiler alert...we did and have that video coming...it's AWESOME) and get close to the speed of the performance and best of both. The M3P is an amazing car too...tough choice you have! IMO as your kids get older you will find a need for the extra space the Y provides. Depends how long you plan to keep it though.

    My wife and I have been thinking about the Model Y 7 seater vs. the Traverse. Right now it's just 2 adults and a 1 year old, but possibly another kid in a year or so. If you could only choose one for our situation, would you recommend the Traverse or the Model Y? Thanks!

    • @LockettTech
      @LockettTech  3 года назад +3

      Thank you for your support! If you can only have 1 vehicle and you are talking about a family of 3 or 4 then we would absolutely pick the Model Y (I did check with Michelle too and she agrees...lol). Essentially you won't really need the 3rd row on a regular basis and with that folded down you will have tons of room for strollers, blankets, bags, and even suitcases for trips!

Seriously debated about the 7 seater if our family continues to grow or for versatility. However, not sure if anyone has tested how the 7 fares in regards to the range having to carry the extra row weight vs the 5. Another reason i went with the 5 bc I mostly use the car for my long work commutes. Curious to find out how much range is lost between the added weight or if it is neglible. Thanks!

Also vehicles with primer and not color in door areas, moreover, the back door was not fitted correctly and pushed on other parts damaging them. Autopilot is not meant to be an autonomous solution. Full autonomy is not out yet and won't be for some time still IMO.
