@@DirtLifestyle love the fact you have a Tacoma and pushing I to its limit in stock form. Also enjoyed this adventure and the fact that you do not need crazy gear to enjoy the outdoors.
Continue being a person Nate! It is so important to value relationships more than the "grams" in this world that is so consumed with technology it is so important to just be present. Keep up the work Nate, I hope one day I can meet you in person!
Loved the video...makes me want to go camping in So Cal. Would also love to know where Brad got his tent. The last thing I need is another tent, but that seems pretty cool.
Thanks to you and Brad for sharing an awesome looking outing. You guys easily could have kept the cameras off and enjoyed each others company in peace, but you welcomed us into camp and for that we thank you.
The experience of camping out under the stars is beyond words, and you really captured that at the end of the video. Not feeling like you have to film everything and just enjoying the adventure is 100% worth it.
Two of my favorite YT dudes. I'd like both of you guys to know that I've spent MANY hours watching your videos. Even ones about specific topics that I'll never do (like welding trusses on a diff). It's part of my night time relaxation "therapy". Thanks for the video fellas!
Dude respect for being honest about ending the video to just enjoy the rest of the trip! And I think we all can appreciate wanting to enjoy the trip and not film.
Thanks for making this video Nate. You and Brad have the best, most informative channels. I wish I could have sat by the fire and talked to you guys! God bless you and your families.
Tin foil Taco skid plates, good places to explore, a cold beer with a camp fire and a good friend. Yep that will do. Think I will keep rock'in my old trusty 95 Taco as opposed to a new one. To many owners of the 3rd gen I talk to have had to many electrical problems and down time to get fixed and only to happen again and again. Great watching you two out together.
Nice trip, y'all…so very good to see the two of you together again! Not too long ago, I was watching one of y'all and I was thinking to myself, "Aren't Nate & Brad buddies…haven't I seen them wheeling together in the past?" At my age, memory is a shaky thing, so I was really questioning it all and I haven't had a lot of free time to dig back into old episodes. Then all at once, y'all pop up with this gem! Most Exceedingly Excellent! ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ "Ol' Scooter" from down here in East Texas.
Good on you for disconnecting from the youtube work. It's work for you guys doing something you enjoy, but still work filming. Nice to relax and enjoy! Good on ya!
Great stuff. Short trips can be a ton-o-fun ! The boondocking/dispersed camping approach is great. I totally agree about having time off camera and being present in the experience!
Very enjoyable video as always Nate ! Brad and yourself are two of my favorite people and I hope I can meet you both someday . Until next time take care and be safe sir.
Having only recently subscribed to your channel to watch your Discovery 2 content, I’m loving the other side of “enjoying” the fruits of all that fab work. In the UK we sadly don’t have deserts and caves with so few people. Thanks for sharing a part of your trip and I agree, switching off the camera is a must! Great Channel.
I spent a month in Las Vegas this past January/Feb. My buddy let me borrow his Nissan Armada while I was out there. I spent a bunch of my free time out exploring the dirt roads around Vegas. I had a blast even though it wasn’t rowdy trails in my XJ on tons and 42s.
Brother, I have a 1st gen (2004) taco. I cut a lot off, boxed the frame, tube truggy back half, 3/4 ton SAS dana 60/70, OBA (5 gallons), 3.4L , 5.86 gears, rear mount radiator. I've beat the hell out of it, but the guts keep giving. Overheated 4 times- head gasket is still good. I need to do the timing belt soon. But no Tcase, transmission or motor issues yet. They're pretty solid. The biggest issue was my donor steering box. I went Blue-top.
Crazy how long making videos adds to anything your trying to capture. I haven't put out a video in a min because of this reason. Sometimes its just nice to complete a task. Much respect to your dedication to your channel. The pressure you are under is huge and I get it I am a Combustion turbine journey worker and I don't have the balls to give that up. It helps when you have mad videography skills. Love the videos bro!
Love the campfire section man! That's exactly what I love about getting out and exploring....enjoy time with friends and loved ones! Good stuff! I started a channel to document some of our adventures and have been reluctant about filming it because I'm not really experiencing it with my family. I respect what you do and it's nice to put the cameras away and thinking about what and how you want to shoot it. It's nice to just enjoy it and soak it up. Cheers!
Where they setup camp there were signs closing the area beyond to vehicular traffic. Those signs were recently put there due to some other offroaders not respecting the area. Glad to see videos of folks enjoying the area responsibly and encouraging others to do the same.
Excellent video with a quick and easy trip out of San Diego - loved all the places to go when I lived down there (1995 Bronco back then...) Our Puget Sound area weather getting better, so time to get out up here (c'mon 2021 Bronco...).
Since you dropped in from the south side down Diablo Drop-off you must have driven out through Split Mountain. That's such a nice geological gem. I love the Anza Borrego state park and all the desert out there.
Great stuff man. Ive been really missing the trail lately. Life's been too crazy with some family stuff i havent had the jeep out in months. This makes me miss it even more. Gotta get out now that the weather's improving. Thanks for sharing this!
Boy you sure have put that Toyota through its paces. I'm a big jeep fan but I've always said that Toyota has one of the best if not the 4wheel drive system out there. Can't wait to see what you do to that truck to make it trail ready.
Love seeing adventure videos like this Nate! Good to see the other aspects of that Dirt Lifestyle. Good Collaboration with Trail Recon! Also, I appreciate the hard work, and absolutely respect your need to "be a person and not a youtuber."
Whoa a bonus video! I got the notification while in HD and then watched it in the parking lot! Oh and I like my 9 months of rain in the PNW! Sometimes I tell people it's 11 months just to keep peeps away. Haha
A front locker should be the next mod. It's always the last thing the other guys on youtube do but it's probably the one that makes the biggest difference.
Nice review. I heard drop gear 2 down, I think to 390. Helps a lot, haven't done yet. Push little bk button to stop beeping when door open, simple fix. Haven't had electrical issues yet, look's like, probably will. Still can't believe costs as much as my Tundra.
One of my favorite content to watch is crossover videos. Anytime separate channels can come together? It's always a good time. I also enjoy the fact that Brad was in a diesel powered Jeep and Nate was not. Just a little humorous thing I noticed in this video. Great video.
Just catching up on some of your vids. I've never been that far south/down that way, but it kinda reminds me of the Calico area further up north. Mud caves are very cool. Again, haven't seen all of your vids, but there's some good wheeling up in my neck o the woods, central Ca., in the Sierra national forest if you've never been!
Hey nate next time you come to socal come a little further south I dont know how much you like the dunes but come check out glamis bunch of stuff to see out there. Love your content!!
Honestly, on my 2012 TRD Sport, I just refer to it as a metal splash guard. Holds up better than plastic, good enough for bashing through snow drifts (as long as they're not iced over), but I wouldn't trust it to hold up against a large rock
Matt with bleepinjeep said he had more fun with his 5k zj wheeling with bustedknuckles xj then he did in his built rigs. Sometimes simple in a stockish rig more fun then hard-core in a buggy.
Looks like a great time! I really enjoyed the fireside chat at the end, you guys should both make this a semi-regular thing on your channels, haha. Sidebar: people like to talk smack about California, but between the beautiful weather and all the outdoor space with beautiful scenery like this, it's an amazing place.
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE your fabrication videos, especially the Discovery project, but man it's so good to see you using your rig. Looking forward to seeing what else you'll be getting up to.
😂 “I’m going to be just a person & not a RUclipsr.” Good for you. I appreciate your content; but also recognize how much work goes into it.
Thank you 🙏

Good times man, so glad you got to enjoy a little bit of SoCal. Next time I'm heading to your neck of the woods!
Fun times...Its awesome..
Marco shoulda been there to demo some killer tacos. I got a lot of my camp cooking ideas from him hahaha
It was great buddy! I can't wait to get you up here
Are y'all gonna do a video showing what minimal gear y'all took.

9:05 watch the right front tire as he goes over the bumps. That stock tire has more flex in the sidewall the the suspensions does.
Lol for sure. That is why this truck rides like crap
@@DirtLifestyle I’m a big taco guy but agree they ride like crap stock but with some upgrades can be a great TRAIL rig.
Its why the bigger you go the softer the ride. Run 40s!

Mom's Pie House in Julian is the BEST! We'd stop there every time when passing through.

Nice! I recently did an 80 mile (peddle) bike tour through that area including "heart attack hill" and "the squeeze". What a beautiful and fun area!
