  • One of the world's most participatory and comprehensive attempts at envisioning pathways out of the climate crisis has been South Africa's Climate Justice Charter process. Carried out over 6 years, concluding in 2020, this involved water stressed communities, media, labour, faith based communities, youth, climate scientists, academics, women's organisations, environmental and social justice organisations. Vishwas Satgar of WITS University was at the heart of this exercise, and talks here about the process, its current status and the future. In conversation with Ashish Kothari at WITS University, Johannesburg, 15 March 2023. For more on the charter: cjcm.org.za/the-charter/en
