- Enjoy my reaction the outrageous film, Inglourious Basterds. What a trip this film was. I found myself laughing, confused, scared most of the time and I couldn't even articulate why.

Waltz deserved this Oscar so much, it's a rare enough thing to find a villain that is actually chilling in modern cinema.
And to go from a Nazi officer to an anti-racist dentist in Django?! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
When Brad Pitt's character said: "I think this may just be my masterpiece", it was clear that was Tarantino talking about his own movie. For me that was a brilliant way to end the film.
I love how Col. Landa started out so friendly & sweet, butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. But he gradually got more and more menacing as the scene went on and when he whispered, "You are hiding enemies of the state, are you not?" that was utterly blood-chilling.
That’s interesting because I NEVER found him sweet and friendly. I know Waltz from other (likable) roles and always found him charming but the second he walked into the frame as Landa I was afraid of him.
@@otter011 I should have said he's good at FAKING being sweet & friendly, but there was a monster hiding underneath his superficial courtesies.

Landa 100% knew that was Shoshanna in the cafe. He ordered her milk and then had them put crème on the strudel which isn’t kosher. Landa could have gotten her right there but that’s too easy. He enjoys the hunt and playing with his prey.

Tarantino’s second best quality is his casting. No one gets it better than him. His top quality I’d say is screenwriting, because the stories and the lines are SO well done. He’s a genius

Yeah he was phenomenal in this film! Obviously made a good impression since he was also cast in Django Unchained.

Just found your channel mate, LOVE your reactions. This is easily in my top 10 movies of all time. I love how in this film, Christoph Waltz is one of the greatest villains, who is completely racist and one of the best antagonists. But in Djanjo Unchained (also in my top 10) he's a slavery hating, good guy. Just complete opposite characters but both do an amazing job at showing the range and pure talent that Waltz has. I look forward to checking out more of your videos of some of my favorite movies! (Also: Happy birthday! (I'm writing this on July 2nd))
As someone who isn’t a native English speaker but who loves 🇺🇸 🇬🇧 🇦🇺 movies, I love when (casting) directors choose people who actually speak the language their character is supposed to know. Tarantino almost always chooses authentic language users. I understand that it’s difficult to find, for example, an actor for Landa because it’s a Hollywood production, it’s a major role, it’s a super complex villain. But for extras etc. I don’t get it because there are so many people from different backgrounds who speak multiple languages. There’s no good reason to choose someone who doesn’t speak the language (besides time probably 😄).
Also, I really love Tarantino‘s love for old Western style camera work.

Speaking as an American, yea this movie does me proud. Definitely in my top 5 movies, maybe tied with Django Unchained. It may not be mentally healthy but i have an absolute lack of humanity for Nazis and slavers, so seeing them get theirs is so satisfying. The scalping and baseball bat scene brings a smile to my face.
I'd love to see your reaction to Pulp Fiction! Other than Tarantino, I think you might dig anything by the Coen brothers...Fargo would be a great start.

Tarantino, lots of intense dialogue by interesting characters followed by unimaginable chaos and blood. Love every minute of it.
Was never able to relax 😂 loved it.
For me as a German it was such fun to see the cream of the crop of German (and Austrian, in case of Waltz) actors in such a movie, and of course the German language content makes it so much more funny when you compare the translations 🙂 Btw, the curly blonde guy playing Sergeant Wilhelm in the tavern scene you mentioned is Alexander Fehling, who was just starting his movie career back then. I can recommend two more (albeit German language) movies he was great in: "Im Labyrinth des Schweigens / Labyrinth of Lies" (2014) which is about the Holocaust trials in early postwar Germany, and "Gut gegen Nordwind / The Space Between the Lines" (2019) which is an unusual romantic movie based on a bestselling novel. Maybe you can get them on a streaming service somewhere, you should try them!

Man! You've no idea how excited I was when I saw the title of today's reaction!! Only a couple of days ago I was remembering the restaurant scene and the Italian language scene at the cinema. I love this movie!!
Of course you made this as exciting as watching it for the first time!
Before I forget, I have to make a recommendation: The Death of Stalin (2017) it's pretty much along the lines of this movie, don't want to spoil it but it's half historically accurate, half creative freedom; the funny and absurd parts are all accurate 😅😂
Back to the film... Landa is brilliant and horrifying, he reminds me of a line from Harry Potter: "Terrible, but great!" Every scene he's in, it's just a great memorable scene. The three fingers thing, also brilliant, it's how they spot spies, by their body language and cultural differences, details as simple as the way we hold flowers 😳

@@thecocoacouch Oh I forgot! The guy who plays the actor and soldier who fancies Shoshanna, he got famous after being in Goodbye, Lenin (2003). It's such a sweet, funny, and sad movie. You should also check it out 😊
I’ll have a look for sure. I remembered him mainly from Captain America: Civil War. Cool to see him in something else.
What I love about this film, is the subtle details: The German Three, was so obvious to all Germans. Also the language: To the jews he says: Adieu (Goodbye - he has no intention to see them again), but to Shosanna he says: Au revoir (Until we see eachother again - he has the intention of seeing her again).

Thank you 😆 I mean just objectively speaking it could be because the US is just so densely populated that hearing an Aussie or Canadian is more rare? I really like hearing some US accents like southern ones occasionally. I’m sick of my own accent 😂

Haven’t faked one at all my guy. Go see all my thumbnails and intros, I’m pretty clear about what I’ve seen and what I haven’t. Hadn’t seen this one either. If I wanted to fake it, I’d just watch LOTR trilogy and all the marvel movies 😂 trust me there are easier ways to be dishonest.
