I’ve never seen the movie and as soon as he said that, it clicked for me
People who "saw it coming" because they look for the twists so they can feel smart I'll just quote the grandpa from Princess Bride, "Yes, you're very smart, now shut up."
Wow, salty lol. Figuring out a plot point early on has nothing to do with "looking for the twists so they can feel smart". That's a pretty ludicrous statement. Some people are great at noticing subtleties and subtext, and pick up on clues and it clicks into place quickly. Some people aren't good at that, and are paying more attention to other aspects of a film/show. It's not right or wrong either way, and shouldn't be a point of contention. Everyone's brain works differently. Telling people that they're just trying to feel smart and to shut up says waaay more about you than it does about them.

@@LittleBlueOwl318two of my friends figured it out before the reveal. At least one of them couldn’t have known beforehand. I think the important thing is to keep something like that to yourself (until after the reveal/movie) unless everyone is fine with theorizing throughout the movie - which can be quite fun too

It gets dark, and the first chapter can get.. annoying because Buttercup is sitting on the verge of very stupid to ‘special’ in the book.
Westley is fantastic!
You also follow the others just enough to know how they got into their spots in our beloved story.
Even the Sicilian. Which is much different and freaking smart as heck. For real.
You follow Inigo and his dad for that year creating the sword.
How Fezzik was forced to be a fighter by his parents. (Poor baby)
And you learn enough of every character so you can be more attached or understand why they be the way they be.
Even the “mawage. Mawage is wot bring us togzer today.”
Can you tell I love the book? Lol
This movie gets even better on a rewatch because you see everything with a completely different context. You don't see a bitter and depressed woman shunning and blatantly cheating on her equally depressed husband, you see a woman so overwhelmed with grief that she can't move on and let herself even have a chance at being with someone else. Even that guy, you don't see as a sleazy home wrecker, he's actually a really nice, normal guy. One of the most cleverly written movies of all time.
"They don't have meetings about rainbows" is one of the most heartbreaking lines in this movie. Far too many kids outwardly display the behaviour they think they should, while hiding pain or confusion.

It's so satisfying seeing younger people see this, particularly the reveal, for the first time.
No need to dumb yourself down and assume most of us got it sooner; when this came out, most people didn't predict the ending. That's what made it so iconic to begin with.

Most reactors didn't see it coming. The few ones that did were usually already familiar with M. Night's later work and very much expecting a major plot twist.
So true! Seeing this in the theater was an Experience. The gasp when we all finally got it was electric.
Indeed, & very few movie goers predicted the ending. M. Night was not well known so we didn't know his style. However there were a few very bright people who figured it out early on. Like my friend who in the theater, screamed, jumped to his feet and yelled out. OMG... HE'S DEAD. Whereupon the rest of the theater goers gave him free candy & popcorn for the remainder of the movie. I had to get up & change seats. Too much of the 'free popcorn & candy' was landing on me. So rest assured, the public at the time didn't have a clue what was going on. Nor were they fond of somebody giving it away, halfway through the film.

I often wonder if this was meant to be an early hint at the twist.
I hosted the Scottish premiere of this movie and the twist blew me away. A couple of weeks later, I took my Mum, and, about 45 minutes in, she leaned in and said "he's dead, isn't he?". When I expressed my surprise, she said "he's either dead or filthy. He hasn't changed clothes in the whole film".

It's so clever how they show the breath and coldness when a ghost is near so then you realise that at the very beginning in the basement, his previous patient is already in the house and the ghosts he sees have followed him there.
I also love that there is something red whenever a ghost is near. Including the scenes with Bruce Willis after he is shot.
This kid is one of the absolute best child actors ever, the way he plays this role is incredible.

The doctor who suspected Cole’s mother of child abuse was actually the director of the movie, M. Night Shyamalan!

As many times as ive seen this movie, the car scene between Cole and his mom gets me EVERYTIME!!!! 😭 such amazing acting from them both.. Such a great movie. And also a great reaction.. 💯

@@nathanfitzgerald6651 Wow yeah, that's definitely talent! Speaking of which, it always amazes me when actors can get themselves to cry in general. When I did a little stage acting a while ago as a hobby, there was ONE play where it WOULD have been GREAT if I could have gotten myself to do that, but even after every trick in the book, it was just a "no can do". Of course, nowadays, with my noticing how infrequently even a movie can get me to cry by myself, I shouldn't be surprised lol. And until VERY recently, there was NO movie that could get me to cry MORE than once... UNTIL the one called "Nimona." I was extremely surprised during my subsequent watches of that movie (and watching reactions, and reading / writing RUclips comments) when I noticed (yes I kept count), that movie (or its scenes or even reading lines from it) got me to shed tears a total of ELEVEN (11) times! I was totally flabbergasted given my contrary history, lol. I think I may have (finally) wore it out though :P
It's true. This may be the best child role I've ever seen in a movie. He was so convincing! And that final scene with him and his mom in the car--you forget they're actors. It feels like such a real son and mother relationship. "It's like he's invisible this whole movie" LOL There were multiple times you made such remarks and I'd hold my breath and wait for you to realize.

In an interview, the director (M. Night Shyamalan) said that Haley Joel Osment was unique as a child actor. Other kid actors do their scenes (remembering that most films are shot out of sequence) with only a minimal understanding of the context, typically just some set-up instruction from the director. Osment, unlike other kid actors, had read the whole script, and genuinely understood what the film was about. That, combined with his expressive face, made for what may be the best performance by a child actor any of us have seen.

Nope. Completely got taken in by it. To me, the most amazing thing about this movie is that practically no one spoils it for others. Even all these years later, we remember just how powerful the reveal actually is, and generally speaking even decades later, we leave the same amazement for everyone else to live through. (I'm sure exceptions exist but compare this to the reveal at the end of Empire Strikes Back, and you'll catch my meaning.)
We even picked a pretty mild spoiler for the movie meme with « I see dead people » to protect the actual reveal.
If social media had existed back then, the secret would have been given away pretty fast, and the film might not have been as successful. Unprecedented.
It's funny but you're right. After all these years, still no one gives it away to anyone that hasn't seen it.

"To me, the most amazing thing about this movie is that practically no one spoils it for others." - That's because everyone can focus on the iconic "I see dead people" scene, which is a humongus spoiler for the entire movie when you think about it, but only if you *know* so that keeps the reveal intact for people who haven't seen the movie.

I'm not sure how familiar Cocoa is with Tomi Collette . She's an Aussie lady who has been in quite a few USA UK films
When Cole tells her about her grandmother... Every time I watch it she has me in tears. She's such a fabulous actress.

And she did the most perfect, natural American accent this "bloody yank" has ever seen in my beloved Ozzie Kangaroo-shagging friends. And you know I mean that in a silly, friendly manner; there is NOTHING wrong with f***ing Kangaroos. After all, just think of how good the Kangaroos must feel!

The Sixth Sense undoubtedly has the absolutely best plot twist ever. Now they do give clues throughout the film for those who can pick up on them, but also they finally reveal it so we can fully understand in the end as well for all of us. It is kind of a mix of psychological thriller-esk, mixed with slightly horror film vibe. Cause the ghosts will show signs of their murders, deaths, etc. It mixes mental health with actual ESP. The fact that Malcolm was able to help Cole by explaining that the Ghosts know that Cole can see them, and what they want is just help, and Malcolm was a ghost who wanted help from Cole as well. He wanted to know how to talk to his wife, and Cole told him to talk to her while she was sleeping, and it worked. She answered him when he spoke in her sleep. Her dropping the ring was her starting to let go, and that was the clue that let Malcolm know he had died. The ghost of the little girl is the most heart wrenching outside of Malcolm's story for me. She wanted help from Cole for justice for her death, and for the person guilty of killing her to be brought to justice. So that her little sister wouldn't have the same thing happen to her. I SUSPECT the woman that was feeding the poison to the little girl had "Munchausen by Proxy syndrome" mental health issue. MANY things make this a masterpiece. LOVE IT!
M. Knight Shyamalan is an incredible writer... Another good one by him, another thriller, is "The Village"! Go watch it if you haven't, I think you'll enjoy it...

I know!!! Makes me so frustrated but it’s also bittersweet since I get to experience what everyone else got to with the reveal.
I remember watching this movie during Film Studies class in high school. And I was one of the few people not shocked at the reveal. The teacher had us list our reasons why we suspected etc. some people said he never changed his clothes, or interacted directly with another.
Me I knew practically at the start. At the first meeting. I thought it was really weird the mother didn't introduce him to the son or ask him about the meeting after. Etc. As a protective older sister I would never leave my kid with a virtual stranger. Not without some questioning first.
Toni Collette (the mother) is Australian. She gave a great performance here.

There definitely is no good reason why the mom was poisoning the daughter, however there is a syndrome called Munchausen by proxy. Basically it's when a caretaker, usually the mother but sometimes the father or whomever is the primary caretaker of the child, will harm the child usually by poison but not always, in order to get attention themselves. There's variations on this theme, like teachers nurses doctors basically anyone who gives care to someone who can't really defend themselves. This is actually been around for a very long time just under different names. In some cases with some others they've killed up to 7-8 of their children and then one case a woman killed eight of her children and then one of her adopted children, which is what got her caught because obviously wouldn't be hereditary if it was adopted. So it's actually a real thing.
The bitch wearing a red dress to her kid's funeral is a dead giveaway. It's all about gaining attention through the child. It's possible she didn't mean to kill her and only meant to keep her sick indefinitely, but things happen. This was her last change to bask in all that sweet sympathy.
If I remember right, the mother was poising the daughter because her husband was going to divorce her and she was using the children’s sickness to keep him with her.
@@CarlyUTube I don’t recall any exposition of her motive but it’s been a long time. That scenario would also suggest the death was accidental, though.
This is pretty much the definition of a perfect twist: almost no one sees it coming the first time around, but in hindsight there are major clues in most of the scenes. And more importantly, it's a twist that makes the story better, more exciting, and more moving than before!
This is also one of the few films that's equal parts horror and tearjerker.
idk if you noticed, but there's a theme of red throughout the movie, such as the funeral when the murderous mother was wearing red instead of mourning black.

This is arguably one of the best movies, and most surprising twists in the history of Hollywood. Brilliant writing, and the little boy, (Haley Joel Osment) acted his a** off.
If you want to see him in another amazing movie, do a reaction; "Pay it Forward". It's incredible, and trust me, you'll love it. Just keep some tissues handy. You will need them.
Oh gosh, "Pay it Forward" is going on MY personal list, thanks :D (I have recently developed a taste for tearjerkers... ever since "Inside Out" when I firsthand noticed that actual feel-good brain endorphins can come along with tears lol).
I will always remember the first time I saw that movie - and the twist of course - and my jaw was on the floor. Then I watched it several times after and wondered how the hell I didn't see that coming in the first place. I guess little Cole is right, we only see whst we wanna see.

I absolutely adore watching people who have never seen this movie, watch it for the first time. I've seen varied reactions, many of which jump to condemning the wife, and then when they get to the twist they are just blown away. It's always fun to watch.

The child actor Haley Joel Osment does AMAZING work in Pay It Forward
I love watching young people react to this movie. It's so much fun seeing them see the twist! (Also the hand prints on the table after Cole's mom sees that all the kitchen drawers are open is to show that it couldn't have been Cole that did it because his hands were on the table the whole time. He was scared and sweating in addition to it being cold, hence the moisture/hand prints there. I've not seen anyone understand that bit lol)
When Cole reveals his secret, as he's giving his dead people speech, it's a close up of Bruce's face zooming slowly closer throughout. He's talking about Bruce and they're showing us its Bruce he's talking about. Very clever.
With that scene, I was too worried about Cole telling a psychiatrist he saw ghosts. And sure enough, a minute later Malcolm is making notes : "Should be hospitalized....medicated.....
schizophrenic." That made me angry, to be honest, after all his "Trust me, trust me" crap.
@@isoldejaneholland8370 I think we're meant to feel frustrated, and "Oh no, he's making the exact same mistake he made with the other boy!" because we know how badly that ended and we don't want it to happen again. Fortunately, his disbelief doesn't continue much longer.

You got way closer to it than most people do on the first time...several times you were like "Nobody else talks to him. It's like his wife doesn't even see him".

The heartbreaking final twist that no one saw coming. don't worry you're not stupid or else everyone who saw the film at the time was stupid because no one could imagine this ending.
This a perfect example of what I love about reaction videos. Oscar added a ton of value by being such a perceptive and critical viewer/commentator, though. It's so nice to be able to rewatch this film for the 100th time through fresh eyes.

I saw this in a packed theatre the second weekend after its release. When it ended, there was complete stunned silence. Nobody got up to leave, there was no chattering. I've never experienced anything like it.
Funny moment : there were three teenage boys sitting right in front of me. When the ghost of the little girl appeared, one of them yelled, "Gaaaah!" and leaped up, sending popcorn flying everywhere. I still think of him whenever I see that scene.
But no, its not horror : its a love story. Between Malcolm and Anna, Cole and his mother, Kyra and her father. Every kind of love we experience as humans.
I experienced that communal moment after Million Dollar Baby. Quite a rare thing.

I can imagine.. After Hillary Swank won back-to-back Oscars - very unusual - I decided to check her out, since I'd never seen anything she was in. I couldn't decide whether to see Boys don't Cry or Million Dollar Baby. But from what I'd heard about Boys don't Cry, it sounded soooo depressing. That's why I decided to go with Million Dollar Baby; I thought, "Oh, so it's like a female Rocky? Sounds cool."
Oh, boy. Yup, I watched this because I didn't want anything too sad. Jeez.

Haley Joel Osment, the kid, was phenomenal actor. He also played the son of Forrest Gump. But the movie i love the most with him on it is Pay It Forward.
He's fantastic in A.I., which is also a great movie.
I'd say 99% of us didn't see that ending coming at first watch...esp when it first came out
A lot of people didn't figure it out until the end. It was one of the best "Oh Shit!" endings in cinema. I saw it in the theater when it first came out. To hear a theater filled with people collectively "gasp"at the ending was fun.
Hardly anybody predicted that brilliant ending twist. That's what made this such an iconic movie and what exploded M Night Shyamalan's career to superstardom. In fact, this is the OG when it comes to twists and so many others have tried it since with few being as successful. The movie got nominated for 6 Oscars including Haley Joel Osment and Toni Collette for acting and M Night for both Original Screenplay and Best Director. it won a bunch of other Awards. M Night also appears in all his films like Hitchcock. He was the Dr. in this one.
*The Sixth Sense* may have touched off a modern fashion for "twist" endings, but I can think of several examples in previous decades in a line stretching all the way back to silent movies in the 1920's.
The scene with Cole and his mom in the car near the end always has me in tears.

Dude, like NO ONE knew watching it. And it was a magical time where we a society we all collectively decided not to spoil it for anyone. For months no one was saying anything about "he was dead the whole time."
You were talking about Cole and his performance… Haley Joel Osment was nominated for the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for this movie.
I had no inkling, until the very end when Cole's line from earlier repeats, "They don't know they're dead. They see what they want to see." I think I literally yelled when it clicked. Probably the best twist that I've experienced. Such strong acting from Haley Joel and Toni and Bruce, particularly since this is not his usual milieu. And what's great is being able to go back time and again and see all the clues and hints dropped along the way, that I completely blanked on. Early, in the church, Cole asks if he's a good doctor, and the doctor's reply is "I used to be." So literal! The only problem is that when you debut with a feature film that's this strong, it's hard to have a strong trajectory with other films. M. Night was blessed to start with this one--the writing is SO strong--but it's kind of a mixed bag with following movies. I never saw The Village so I can't speak to it, but Signs I thought was really strong with a great cast and story.
village is either love or hate from what i've seen. i quite enjoyed it but honestly they need to stop advertising shyamalan's involvement with movies. you know going into one of his movies he is going to try to pull off a huge twist at the end and it cheapens both the twist and the overall movie

When this came out, it was still very possible to go to a movie without it any spoilers, or even knowing the general plot. The Empire Strikes Back kept its big secret, as did the Usual Suspects, for most moviegoers, as did this film. But the point isn’t to challenge or fool the audience. It was to allow the most emotional, impactful moment to really gel until the climax, so that you can feel much of what Bruce’s character feels…that shock of understanding. If you think about it, it’s not unlike what loved ones feel when someone close to them dies. Even when the person has been ill and their deaths are expected, it’s still an emotional earthquake. The movie allows us time to really get to know him, and care about him, as well as his wife. So it hits with genuine force, but doesn’t leave you feeling stupid. Particularly when watching it back then with an audience, the revelation was a shared experience. And I should add, until she dropped the ring at the end, it never crossed my mind. I was totally swept up in the story. It was awesome…something guessing early would totally deprive you of.
Besides, there’s a lot to be said for simply staying in the moment in a movie, not trying to anticipate everything that will happen. Reactions where the viewer is constantly guessing about what will happen…even to the point of talking over dialogue or through great moments…become a tedious exercise of folks just seemingly trying to prove they’re clever. Which, for me, defeats the purpose.

Now you need to rewatch the film. The first scene with Cole in the church ends completely different. You related him stealing the icon to you sneaking in toys. He had just had a ghost tell him he was going to see him again. So he stole the icon for protection. You did catch.the big hint at the anniversary dinner that he had no place setting. The first meeting at Cole's house, the Mom and Bruce never interact. "You're nice, but you can't help me." His problem is seeing dead people. Though he's nice, he's dead."
Haley Joel Osment was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. Michael Caine won and gave a great speech about his fellow nominees. Definitely worth a watch.
Cole's mom is Toni Collett. Not only is she awesome in this, as an Australian, she nailed the Philly accent.
I saw it in the theater, and I didn't even know there was a twist. I got it when the wedding ring rolled, so a little behind you. In the theater the jump scares are so much worse.

I remember watching this as a teen. I was so scared. So, I recommend to rewatch and look for red. Whenever the dead are nearby, red is shown on screen. And all of Bruce’s scenes there’s red somewhere. For example the red church door in the beginning when they meet.

This one is such a classic. The twist in the third act had everyone gagged.
I don't know anybody who figured out until the end. I was shocked! I think my jaw muscles got paralyzed because I couldn't close my mouth. Great movie, great ending. One of the best movie tickets ever. Worth every penny!
The reason the hospital went straight for the mother after Cole got hurt is because certain workers in the U.S. are mandated reporters. This includes people like teachers, doctors, and therapists. They are legally responsible for reporting any possible case of abuse - otherwise they can face serious consequences.
29:01 that's one of the things that makes this plot twist so great. It's right in front of us the entire time. He toes the line of showing us the entire film, and yet 90% of us just won't put it together. But when we figure it out at the end, everything make such sense and all is so obvious. M. Night Shyamalan executed absolute genius in making this movie.
You actually caught on sooner then most. I don’t know of anyone who figured it out before the reveal. The question that is rarely ever asked is, did Cole know the whole time that he was a ghost? Based on how he spoke to him I would say he did. As always, watching you react to these iconic films is entertaining.
Well given how Malcom died, the only indication from the front would be just one teeny tiny little hole that could’ve been caused by anything. I don’t remember Malcom ever showing his back to Cole, so there’d be now way to see the bloodstain
I thought it was obvious (on second watching) that Cole knew Malcolm was a ghost. On first seeing Malcolm, Cole fled to a church for safety. Cole does end up speaking to him but I think that's because Malcolm has a gentle approach compared to the other ghosts -- probably because he wants to help Cole vs. scare, hurt or get something from him.
It’s a truly special person who can help someone even after they’re dead. A big responsibility that not everyone can handle

The only thing I thought it was a bit odd was the bus ride to the dead girls house, you got a lot more clues and like the rest of us we didn't put them together which makes the ending a kind of doh moment. Thank you for a great reaction

I wish there was a scene at the end where he walked out of his house and then it shows the thermostat going back to normal and then she opens her eyes and looks around and see's his ring on the ground, holds it and says goodbye to make peace with his passing.
When this movie was released in theaters, there was very little advertising and almost no trailer. It was offered on one screen in a given service area or city, and people who saw it told their friends they had to go see it, without spoiling it. It stayed in the theaters for the entire summer, on one screen, because it kept selling out.
I saw this in the theatre when it first came out and still remember everyone gasping when the twist was revealed. Such good storytelling, and incredible acting!
Here I am, crying again with this movie... And, it's not even the movie, it's just the reaction, but it made me cry again... This movie is so GOOD... Classic!!! Actuallly the young actor was Oscar nominaded for this... Well deserved!

Great reaction to an amazing film. All three of the main actors deserved Oscars for their performances. Bruce Willis, the comedy/action star nailing a serious role, Toni Colette as Cole's mom, and young Haley Joel Osment as Cole playing a role that many adult actors would find difficult to do properly. All bloody amazing.
And so well set and directed too. All the scenes where Malcolm was in the room with other people, and they were staged and set like they had been interacting just a moment before, but no one but Cole ever interacted with Malcolm. Just brilliant work.
And a heartbreaking tear-jerker too. Gosh, so many scenes that just ripped your guts out with sympathetic pain and sorrow. Such a devastating movie. And wonderful too.
A couple other great movies with this phenomenal child actor (Haley Joel Osment)…”Second Hand Lions” and “A. I. Artificial Intelligence”. He also made a brief appearance in “Forrest Gump” but I won’t say the character in case you haven’t seen it yet.
I definitely consider myself one of the lucky ones that saw this early and didn't see the twist coming.

The guy in the bathroom is actor / singer Donnie Whalberg who had to loose alot of weight to to play the tormented patient who shot WILLIS .

I saw this movie in theaters in the days before the internet was constantly accessible (dial-up). It was a surprise for most or all of the people in the theater. This type of ghost movie twist was made popular by this movie. People were not expecting it.
You have a very genuine and authentic feel that I really appreciate. I've seen a lot of people react to this movie, and it's clear that they're acting, when the reveal happens. Pretending that it's brand new information, when it's clear they already knew. It's so obvious from your reaction that you really didn't know and it was wonderful to see your realisation. No, no one saw the surprise twist coming. I worked in Hollywood for 36 years, green rooms, Shrine, Celebrity Center, Directors Guild, SAG, and I watched this in a full theater off Hollywood Blvd and Vermont Ave. When the surprise twist everyone in the audience gasped and blurted out NO! or WHAAAAAT?! or OH MY GOD!.... in complete shock
I love that you picked up on the little thing throughout the movie but without figuring it out, so you still got to be surprised by the twist at the end. Gosh this brings tears to my eyes every time! Such a great reaction!
Best twist in a movie ever, and the reveal was perfect. I remember watching this when it first came out, and twists weren’t a big thing at the time. Everyone was stunned, and it breathed so much life into the mystery/thriller/twist genre.
This IS probably one of the best twists in movie history. When you watch it again you can see the clues that Malcolm is dead that you missed on the first watch.

I love seeing young people watching these movies. I do find it incredible you managed to get to your first watching without someone spoiling it for you.
One clue that too that he was dead was that the mother never introduced bruce willis to the kid...he was just there.
This movie is so sad but beautiful. Even though Malcolm is dead, but without his ghost guided Cole to the right direction, who know how Cole would end up. This way Cole got the what he wants, he's no longer scared, and he can help both ghosts and some of the related living too. Like the ghost of the little girl, if Cole didn't help her, her sister was probably going to face the same fate.
You'd be surprised at how many of us were like you and totally unprepared for that twist. I think this may well be M. Night's best movie. Just wonderful! And a terrific reaction, too!
It's certainly a fantastic film, it's certainly in my top 10 and possibly my top 5. The writing and the acting, especially the car scene with Cole and his mum, was excellent. I didn't guess the ending, which I actually think made the film even better as far as I am concerned.

No amount of words can describe the masterpiece this movie is…. Toni Colette played Cole’s mom, and she’s a BRILLIANT actress; she was nominated for an Oscar for this role, it’s been 23 years, and she’s never been nominated again since, which is a major bummer… this movie is the definition of what a good plot twist should look like, and that car scene; “do I make her proud?” That scene and the twist are the two best scenes of the entire movie, NO DOUBT

The one thing a lot of people miss about this movie is that it’s not only a ghost story, it’s also a love story. People always focus on the twist, but then don’t go back and reflect on all the things that she did to try to cope with her loss. Such a great movie.
To think I was 12 when my Mom took me and my brother to watch this movie because we always loved thriller/horror 🤣 I remember back in 1999 in my towns theather we could stay and watch the movie again and again as long as we didnt leave the place.

I've seen so many people react to this and only ONE of them guessed Malcolm was dead earlier than right before (or not at all) it was revealed.
The car scene when Cole talk to his mother and reveal he has six sense is amazing ... Really break my heart too about she n her mother relation 😭😭😭
Fun fact: The doctor the mom talks to in the hospital after Cole is locked in the closet is the one who wrote and directed the movie.
In an interview he joked that his mom finally got to see him as a doctor! 😂😊
"They only see what they want to see" also applies to viewers of this film. I saw this movie the first day it was in the theaters and the audience was surprised by the ending. All the scenes with Malcolm and others in the room. We assumed that he was having a conversation with Cole's mom, the doctor, his wife, etc. But the only person he had interactions with was Cole. We only saw what we wanted to see.
So the kid's name is Haley Joel Osment. He's an adult now and performed in a bunch of stuff but my absolute favorite character that he has done is the voice of Sora, the main character of the game series Kingdom Hearts. He started as a kid and has performed into his adulthood

I figured it out when the kid was talking to his mom in the car. I was kind of disappointed it took me that long since I look for those twists since I grew up watching the Twilight Zone.

I remember watching this movie for the first time, and even today I can say it has one of the best movie twists ever!! The child acting as the main character is also absolutely incredible

You got it just before I did. It hit me when I saw his wedding band on the floor. And at 20:24 your comment that he was like invisible to everyone, I thought you would figure it out. One of the best twists in a film I've ever seen. It fooled most everyone.

The fact he got through this whole movie without observing the lead actress is Australian tells me he needs to react to *Muriel's Wedding* . That role put Toni Colette onto a Hollywood trajectory.
One thing that always gets me with these reactions is the one where everyone realizes how tragic the story is for Malcolm Crowe's wife Anna (played by Olivia Williams). We all thought she was a distant, resentful wife who was giving her husband the silent treatment. When we realize that she is in mourning all this time and falls asleep every night watching her wedding video, it literally shatters your heart.
The little boy was also in Forest Gump- I think it was one of his first roles and he was good in that too even though it was a smaller part (another great movie) but yeah the twist at the end got a lot of people- even with the hints, the writing was so good that you normally don’t see it until the end
