People make such a big deal that you can't hone a nikasil cylinder. I have honed a lot of them with a dingleball hone and never had a problem. Never ruined one as people online claim it will. I think its ridiculous to claim you can not do it. Great video as usual.
Yes, I would by that in a heartbeat. In fact I just bought a 2007 YZ250F in that same state although a lot cleaner. And like you I paid less than $1000 but more than $500. No way would I pay more than a $1000 for any bike in boxes. The problem around north west florida is no one wants to sell project bikes any more. If they cant get at least $1200 to $1500 out of it then they part it out. It's a crying shame, I've seen some really nice 125s that they don't make anymore that could have been easily fixed, being parted for no good reason. Should be a crime to part out any bike worth fixing.
Hey Rooster, how to clean the engine head? What is materials you use? I'm referring to tools for cleaning the head and valves, for example on the dremel. Thank you
Hey just found your videos sorry I’m commenting so late but the videos I have watched from you they are really awesome appreciate the content but anyways I’m from Missouri and just bout a bike from my nephew for 800 the bottom end needs a rebuild he took it all apart on the top end and lost a whole bunch of bolts but it was like the bike u we’re working on in this video bike in a box so I’m having to source pretty much almost every single bolt for the engine bolts and engine mount bolts plus all the plastics bolts
I’m amazed at the comments of people they watch a fucking video and think they know something. They really don’t know shit just a wanna be making fun of someone doing something.
Yes I would most definitely buy a bike in boxes ...if all the parts are there anyways. I usually get them under 1k in eastern NC. I can usually get them a lot cheaper if its in boxes.
Hi rooster I live in the countryside of the uk and got an 05 250f completely stripped wants crank piston cylinder and chain paid £600 for it (around $730) I think you got a steal ! Love your videos man make my Saturdays worth while I’m a mechanic for Land Rover always rode bikes but not done much fixing on them they’re fun ! Could do with advice if you ever get chance and would love to speak to you speaking as a fellow fan !!!
if you go to Oklahoma or Kansas , can get project bikes from 50-250$ ... not a lot of people want projects anymore so deals are PLENTY. Can get a working kx250 for 1900$ But i understand most people not willing to travel here for just a deal.
i buy them for 500 to 800cdn price but i never save in the end time i need all new parts crank cyclinder etc it ends up being like 2500cdn but i guess i can say you know what you got now, vs buying a used running for 2500 to 3500.
Have a 98yz400f that I'm working on an wen I kick it over won't start an wen I take seat off an air filter I can see fule shooting out of into the air box any idea
brought a yzf 250. 60% of it was there he wanted £600 before I went to view it. managed to knock him down to 400 just so i could part out and get my money back (worst case) same mine suffers the same as you crank and cases shat itself missing tons of engine parts i.e correct bolts nuts them things cost some money that's before you get into the bearings crank piston balancer ect ect! deffo would of parted this bike out. I've decided to keep it as we all do haha! iv put to much time and effort cleaning everything up ect ect. at least il have a clean like new 2013 yzf250 to ride around on at the end of it all. if i was to buy this kind of bike again id prob just part it out the average dirt bike sells for around 2-3k in the uk I'm already very close to that number and its still in bits. if i could make alittle or brake even on doing this id deffo do it in my spare time as i enjoy it also but its almost impossible people want to much money for there locked up bikes here and they never seem to give you a good detailed description on what actually happened..
In the uk, this bike would fetch £400 like that. I would never buy it but if I was you 100% I would. Money to be made doing this kinda stuff . That’s the thing with 4strokes.. unless you’re able to rebuild them yourself , it’s almost uneconomical to fix them and they become parts especially the older they are. I would love to be able to do what you do.
Yea this is normal around ct people have stolen parts all over Facebook and Craig and when they are build people want 3k for it put together but run down so 1k is normal
I love basket cases cuz there cheap most peaple get overwhelmed wen they look at them but works out for guys like us tht are willing to give it a shot sure sometimes end up dumping to much money in them and you lose your ass but hey thts life and for me it’s a hobby but my 01 yz250f I got for free my buddy has had it 6 yrs torn apart
I do a pretty good job of balancing cost and profit on my machines. If they are super rough, I only pay what I can recoup in a part out. Thanks for watching.
@@restoroosterohv yeah I hear ya sometimes I go overboard on somthing I plan to keep forever then end up in 6 months selling lol and no problem I’ve learned a lot abt this yzf watching your vids keep up the awesome content
I can relate. Sometimes I go overboard on bikes that I’m going to just flip, but I just can’t put them back out there without going through them completely. I have plenty of YZ 250 F builds on here and I offer different tips and tricks on each video. I definitely appreciate your support and feedback.
I’d most definitely pay wat u paid for it especially if all the parts are there bcuz once u do the rebuild it’s gonna be worth close to triple in wat u paid for it & out here in Richmond I can almost guarantee u they wuda wanted $2k or better for it! Lol 🤦🏽♂️
YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS
Thank you

It is necessary actually. If installing new rings, they need the fine crosshatching to hold oil for proper lubrication and break-in.
Nice work!!
Thank you

$500 is good deal .....
Factor in some time & $$$ to repair .....
Potential to have a nice bike at the end 👍
Thank you for your comment
Sure I'd do a bike in the box, only if I had the knowledge like you!
Thank you sir.

Hey, use it as a learning tool. It’s rewarding when you can put one back together. Thank you for your feedback and support
I am always amazed by the lack of cleaning some people don't do to their equipment. I guess it's too much work for some.
Me too although I think for some it may be that they just don’t know to do it. Thanks for your comment.

Yes sir, that is true.
What kind of oil is in that bottle? Regular motorcycle engine oil?
I use 2 bottles, one with 2 cycle (blue) and the other has 15w40 engine oil

If you’re seeing fuel coming back into the airbox, check to be sure your intake valves are sealing.
@restoroosterohv9030 ok thank you sir

Agreed, but for $400 for a 13 you can’t go wrong. I’d take that deal all day long.
In northeast Alabama you would pay $1,000 to $1,300 for a bike in that condition
Thank you for the insight
I bought ten percent of that bike already lol she coming together tho

I'd go as much as 800. I'm in central Virginia. You can't find much for under 12 to 15 hundred round here.
Thanks for your feedback. I’m right there with you on the price.
I buy bikes likes this in the uk at 350 500 max box of bits is the way forward u no when it’s done u got a new bike
Thank you for your feedback
The best way to buy them is broken. For me. I've only bought one running bike out of prob 15.
If I bought them running and riding, I wouldn’t have a channel, haha.
Yea this is normal around ct people have stolen parts all over Facebook and Craig and when they are build people want 3k for it put together but run down so 1k is normal
$500-$1000 is a great deal. It’s just such a gamble to me, I’m too much of a chicken.
Oh, that’s the fun. Always a surprise. Thanks for the comment.

Under 1k with bad crank. 450 bikes under 1200 with bad crank. Anymore and it’s hard to make much. In KY..
Thank you for your feedback. I generally won't spend over 1K on a locked bike unless it is a late model.
I’d pay like $500. But here in Vegas can’t find anything for less then $1500. No matter condition. Lol
Thank you for the data
west virginia 600-700 if everything is there.
Thank you
I'd do it. But less than $500 ususally. Dallas Texas area.
Thank you for your insight
Yep, I would pay $750 for a bike like that. Here in Michigan guys would be asking $1200-$1500. What they got for them who knows?
Thanks for the data!
I would pay $700 for a bike like this (in texas), only reason I haven't done it yet is that I can't find one with a title...
Thank you for the data
I got One with all plastic in mint condition ill sell for 700 dont know whats wrong with it
@QuantravionWilson where are you located?
@@restoroosterohv Baton Rouge Louisiana. i can shoot you some pictures
I appreciate it. Unfortunately that is going to be too far for me to travel.

$800 b about right
I would buy this bike but I live in Portugal (europe) where every single bike is super overpriced, here, expect to pay 2k for that basket case
Wow, Thank you for the data. I’ve had a few people buy bikes from me and send them overseas. Makes sense now.
@@restoroosterohv lots of guys buy then over there and ship them here to Europe and it’s STILL cheaper if you buy a bunch in bulk
I was going to say $750-$800
