Did u get married?
Do you still have the Yamaha snowmobile
It’s the crank bearings I think
Hi up
Must feel different working for someone when you usually buy, fix, and sell for profit. I’ve learned so much from you, keep up the great work! Thank you
Good work man I’d say that everyone that has a bike should try to at least do their own work there to many young fellers out there that are scared and just start easy I started tearing bicycles down and putting them back together when I was a kid just wanted to know how things work so keep up the good work
When you're putting them cams back in make sure you put the retaining clips on the bearings. Easy to forget.
Love the channel man as a young guy who doesn’t know a thing about motors it’s really interesting and valuable for me to watch. Amazing all of your knowledge!
Good one joe! Would love to see a xr400 to on the chanel
I got a 2001 xr400
Or a xr 650
Xrs run forever unless poor maintainer
@@project4stroke876 i got the 2000 and 1997 did a ful rebuild serie on the 2000 and the other one was arunner
@@kylechupick2232 exactly thats why i love them!
Yessss finally got another 4 stroke crossers on here been waiting ages for you to get one back on the channel
I have a 2009 kx 250f and that thing goes fast afffff
Bro seriously
@@SamyHamSam what?
@@sihx8932 finally another 4 stroke dirtbike lol
@@SamyHamSam I have had 2 strokes and 4 strokes obviously 2 strokes are always gonna be better and faster bikes but I got a 07 crf250r so good to watch some 4 strokes for a change Been ages since I’ve seen him have a 4 stroke crosser on the channel 💯
Crank is shot. My 2009 did same thing..
I’m actually rebuilding the bottom end as we speak. Waiting on gaskets right now and then rebuild time. Also. The blue is normal. Even comes on some new cranks. Good luck man.
PLEASE DON’T DELETE THIS VIDEO I HAVE THE EXACT SAME BIKE THAT NEEDS A REBUILD AND THIS VIDEO IS VERY HELPFUL THANK YOU
I love how much your posting content right now! Another awesome video!
Also be sure to check the kick start and it's gearing. Hate to break one down just to find it's actually a easier solution.
This time you were spot on.
Cheers
Get a Carillo crank and rod with hi comp piston this thing will fly
That thing blued the crank I’m surprised it didn’t throw the rod, I think someone ran it with not enough oil
That bluing is from the factory heat treating.
Brand new yz250f cranks have these heat marks from assembly
The 450s last a long time if you keep on maintenance and don’t ride the limiter 24/7. I think the early yz450s needed a crank mod as they didn’t have great lubrication for the rod
Yes a yz been waiting on a build like this keep up the good work I hope everyone has a blessed day
So your saying it’s not worth fixing them? A buddy of mines has one that’s busted and is considering fixing it since it technically cheaper then buying a newer one.
First thing you should have done is drain the oil to look for evidence of metal in the oil from catastrophic failure
great video man. I have the exact same bike as this and I had it locked up on me aswell, the problem with mine was my timing chain was old and stiff and it siezed my intake cam, I took it apart slightly sanded the seatings for the cam and redone the valve clearances and replaced the timing chain and she was mint, to check the oil on those bikes theres a dip stick on the headstock opposite side to the vin number as they have oil pumping through the frame.
This Bike looks so good! I love Yamaha!
At 25:05 you mention the coloration. That is not from overheating. That is from when the crank web is heated to press in the crank pin. I have installed many many dozens of yz250f/yz450f cranks and they all look like this new.
Your vidoes are great 2vintage. you dont skip much things but its still not boring to watch. well done!
Full on Sherlock mode commences now. Should use black thicker nitrile gloves, works great for me and stays solid even with gas. Infini touch is one good brand.
wow man that is so clean looks like a great bike! i love the older YZ250s
Wondering what you ride if this is so clean,
@@chrisatc627 i ride a 2014 ktm 150 sx its clean for a 2004 bud
The valves are pitted😂 the piston rings are supposed to be a bit loose so they can compress against the cylinder wall. The main bearings are probably cooked
Also Do not just drop another crank in if he has you rebuild it. Discover why that one failed and fix the issue. Replace the oil pump for sure as a start.
Enjoyed the summary near the end of the video of deciding when to part out a bike… hopefully never! 😜
This music intro is kick ass!
Man you are smart as s*** for your age I ride bikes and know how to do the simple s*** but that's about it you know how to replace cranks I know it's a pain in the ass but it's worth it on this bike
Was wondering about this yz
Same!
Good vid man keep up the good work I learn so much on your vids
Straight away, it looks like the jug has been replaced or at least been into/cleaned. There isn't any dirt staining on the aluminum. Botched top end job?
Very interesting vid Joe!
What would be the failure cause?-bad or no maintenance?
I love my 01yz250f its mint you're looks pretty good shape also
You should do another SXS build, if you can find something be to fix, loved watching the mule one
Sweet I got a 2018 Kawasaki 250f and they are fast I race motocross
you dont worry about any of that dirt above the mtr falling into the top end while your working?
What causes a crank bearing to seize like this? What can be done maintenance-wise to avoid it?
Frequent oil changes, and CHECK the oil as well every once in a while! Also no 5 min long limiters in neutral!
you must have done a few of theses because you were fearless when it came time to split the engine case ? since there was oil and the oil pump seemed to be functioning properly what is it that you think caused this issue with the crank bearing to have burned out ? i might presume it possible they had only re added oil after it already failed because this seems like something that should really never happen if you always maintain a bike properly ??
With everyone thinking an 18 year old bike is worth 3500 on marketplace I would just fix it. The crank kit is 100 bucks on ebay, 220 for a piston kit and maybe 50 for the gasket kit. I just did the same thing to my 426f before i got deployed.
The crank bearings probably are getting hot and expanding cause it to lock up when it cools down they shrink and become free had a 450r motor do it
Lovin the videos bro!!! When are you gonna do a Harley for us?
Such a dope bike gotta get one for sure! Does it even have a key? Must be a new gen thing?
Lack of oil or wrong oil those things just do not fail those bearings do not fail for no reason it's one of the two
I know this song from fuel TV back in the day lol
Great vid!!!!!!Good old bikes!!!!!! I will be doing a few of the old 4 strokes MX bikes starting with a 2008 KX250F in the next few weeks on my Channel, I just have to finish up on the XR600R, It should make a good vid as I got it in boxes of parts and I have to put it all back together. I should be fine as I have a heap of spare parts from previous spare part bikes and builds. Cheers Rick MTR
Just send the crank out to be rebuilt, it's much cheaper
Always learning Joe top video again 👍🙏
Thinking bout buying yz450 fx next year!
So I bought a 04 yz250 from my nephew. I got it for $500 bucks couldn't pass it up. I knew it wasnt running when I bought it but I'm getting ready to work on it tomorrow and was wondering what to look for? Something like this? He did say that it locked up on him when he crashed or something like that but it came free. He never tried to start it again.
Had a kx250f, sold it. Felt like I was about to blow it. Love my yz125 though
these channels are a love hate relationship for me. I use to ride and now I can't really afford to. once you ride it's in your blood.
That’s kinda what happened to my bike the bearings had needles and all the needles fell out same with the piston
Super nice bike already can’t wait for a top speed test
Top speed 75 mph
190 degrees out 11:50 and now correct timing at 12:03
First thing I thought was it’s overheating. Bummer on the crank but they’re only about $170.
The owner going to part it out or have you fix it?
How much for it? Bc I want to get it for my dad
11:50 and then camshafts magically change position like nothing happened ;)
Cheaper to fix than try to find one
With covid pricing
Love the channel
Great teaching as always
🤣🤣
Learned somethin!
Damn I have had some crappy luck with my 06 yz 250f thing is an absolute blast tho but for sure a lonely pit over last couple years I have put well over 4 or 5k in it. But I have an odd one for ya my head gasket now keeps leaking coolant into the piston i have changed it twice now with no luck. Has 290 big bore kit bored to 312 high compression piston stroker crank. Any idea on how to keep it from leaking? Had to tear the motor apart due to clutch basket exploding.
That hot spot on the crank was painfully obvious. That's sucky, newer 4 strokes just aren't worth the trouble when they go.
Yeah about that heat mark.. hot rods cranks come brand new with those heat marks man. And those heat marks can be there after a rod is rebuilt. I’ve took cranks to shops before.
Doesn't the early 450 engine need the oil modd. Because the bearings often go out from lack of lubrication.
I know the yfz’s did, so I imagine the bikes did too
wrench rabbit kit time
Had an o3 wr250 do the same thing
Good job.
Hey just watch the video on the 92 kx 250 do you still have the stock pipe it came with if so I will buy it from you
Hello 2 vintage pls say hi And pls tell what’s better for trail riding 4 stroke or 2
Now that’s a good find
Great video man
Hi joe!! I love your videos so much and I also learn from them! I have one suggestion though. Can you pls make your videos 20 minutes long? They are just sometimes to long for me because I don’t have a lot of free time.
U need a kawaskia brute force or a kvf 700
Would anyone here know whats wrong with my quad its a 2006 suzuki lt160 its starts first tap of the button but whenever i rev it or put it in gear it shuts off
Hell ya man that thing is awesome
Good job man and godbless
It has a dip stick and oil in the frame lol
Dude.. my 2005 wr450f has the same graphics
Kaboom.
I have a 2005 WR450 in perfect condition with 700 miles on it. I don’t ride anymore. I’ll let it go for the right price. Like new.
Are you anywhere near Kansas?
@@georgemcfly1205 nope. Ca.
Crisscross on the head 😬😬
I want to see a drz or an actual Street bike
Hey Joe when you gonna get a KTM?
Ye
Great video
Valves
What da heck
Who else saw the frog face as he was taking the head off?!
Crank is no good after getting that hot
difficult decision because i dont think these 4 strokers will become desirable in years to come, well not mx bikes anyways steel frame also probably one of the least desirable machines out there . offer the guy $350 and part it out
I found out wiseco has bottom end kit for under 500$ on fortnine dot CA in canadian funds if the person wants it done.
The cylinder is probably out of round.
How would the cylinder just go from round to not round? Not common on a 250f
Here is entire kit for that bottom end under 400 and Wiseco for a little more.

Get a xr 650
Saludos 👏👏🇦🇷🇦🇷🇦🇷
Cam chain ist bad condition!!! replace it!!
alot of these earlier 4 stroke race bikes had a problem with overheating. the majority of them around these years are the culprit of top name brand companies rushing to get a product out to compete with eachother. i had one of these, a kawi, a suzi and a honda all the same. 07+ is about when they actually did some long term testing and debugged SOME of the common issues in these bikes. basically they produced crap right off the assembly line. take it from a mechanic of 15+ years who raced for the better part pf their life. they ran their ass off but for a short amount of time because they were designed for racing. road extremely hard for a short amount of time and rebuilt after a few races. thats why i laugh everytime i see a "trail ridden" race bike because that can be even worse.
Hey bro can I have it?
Yamaha Crank or Rod barring NO... Really... Seams like everyone riding a Yammer is splitting the cases MORE than riding... Yams motors are JUNK. have been and looks like always will be.
Rebuild the crank is an option.
