2004 Kawasaki KX100 2 Stroke Build Ep64
Hello Do you need a battery to start the 450x? or will kicking it without a battery work?
It would probably start but I wouldn’t recommend running it without the battery installed to avoid potential damage to the charging system and voltage regulator
Going to buy a yz250f tomorrow only thing is a runs for a minute or less then shuts off. This kind of gives me an idea of the possibilities. Thank you.
Looks like you have some diagnostics in your future. Hopefully it’s something simple.
I got one for you shall I say it . KING QUAD 750 I bought it from a friend payed tooo much like the compression in its single cylinder put a new starter on it and fixed the pull rope with new battery and I hit the starter and pulled on the rope as hard as I could but just ripped my arm half off. I guess I'm getting old, in my younger day I at least would have broken the rope. LOL When I bought it cranked it rode it lots of power the second time it got tight and died. what ya think? 'I'm in Tennessee around Dayton's Blue water resort fishing. Do you need a challenge?
Will it pull if you remove the spark plug?
yes.. I think there is a pressure release not working.it slowly got worse just not much information about that compression release
@kevincresswell5272 what year is it? The auto-decompression is built into the exhaust camshaft and is not serviceable on its own. If you pull the valve cover and look in the center of the exhaust cam, make sure that the weight assy moves freely and returns to closed when released.
"it's going to be hard to work with one arm" 😂😂 that's to slick
Rooster man I’m doing an 07 rmz450 and the cam chain is too tight to even install it’s brand new and it’s super tight I started with the exhaust cam but it’s too tight to even go over the intake cam
Do you have the tensioner out completely? If so, be sure it’s not bound up around the crank gear. After that, you may have the wrong chain.
@@restoroosterohv yea i had the tensioner out and it’s was seated around the crank teeth but I came to the realization that I just bought a cheap cam chain even though it had the correct part number it’s just too small. Have you ever bought something with the part number but doesn’t fit? I mean it was only 13 bucks off eBay so I went ahead and got one from Rocky Mountain for 50 bucks we’ll see what happens
@@ReelLyferOS I don't buy Chinese camshaft chains. Too much at stake...Glad you found the issue.
@@restoroosterohv yea I just thought If it has the part number then it’s oem lol but that’s definitely not the case thanks rooster man you help more than you know and also I jb welded that cam chain guide seat and it’s hard as a rock
@ReelLyferOS sometimes the aftermarket companies will put the OEM part number so that you have a reference, but obviously that doesn’t work always.
Thanks!
Thank you

Still working on it
Check Rotary valve clearance. possible junk in jet pump or jet pump bearings .
I have the same EXACT quad, only difference is, I have a twin brother pipe on it (and paddle tires). I also have a 2005 Honda TRX, kick start fell off and im not sure how to put it back on. Im trying to learn how to fix these things so my dad doesn't have to. Any ideas on how to put it back together ?
just came across this video, I have the same EXACT quad. only difference is I have a twin brothers pipe on mine. such a sick quad. I also have a Honda TRX 450. Kick start fell off when I tried to kick start it, been trying to learn how to fix quads to help my dad out. Any clue on how to put it back on?
I notice you always use rtv on the cases instead of the oem style paper gaskets? I always thought that the tolerances were designed with the paper gasket included?
Not all engines use a gasket material but when they do, I will use them for sure
@@restoroosterohv right on thanks for the videos man really like your straightforward style and also how you usually get the whole builds done in one video. Awesome brother keep on wrenching and I’ll keep watchin.
I appreciate your continued support
Hi RestoRooster. Thanks for the great video. I was helping a mate with his bike. And noticed next to the oil drain plug there is another plug with crush washer next to it. Also a 17mm by the looks of it. What is that for? I can't find any mention of it online. Also is the transmission oil and engine oil the same compartment on this bike?
There is only one drain on the bottom of the engine on the CRF125F and it is a 17mm. This will drain the entire engine/transmission.
how come u didnt say how much that whole kit was?
I think it was something like $850 due to a black Friday special.
dont forget the great quality of the roll; bar ....dont ever roll or it will fold and kill u./ seen it happen first hand.
I know you’re right.
I have some questions I have a 2009 kfx450r? It cranks like yours but don’t have spark or fuel
First thing I would do is check your stator windings.
Another great video!!!
Thank you
How to bleed brakes in the most messy and paint eating way! Lol
Sure, you can use a hose into a container. I wanted to illustrate the procedure with visuals of the output. Thanks for your comment.
Another great video!!!
Thank you
Thank you
You’re welcome
Thanks for this. Very helpful and easy to follow video. Cheers
Thanks for watching
We do everything else at my shop besides this. I have a good machine shop guy who presses our cranks back together when we can't get a complete crank. I would really like to be able to check runout though just in case!
As soon as I get another crank job, I will do a detailed video on truing them.
@restoroosterohv I appreciate it. I will subscribe! I really needed a truing stand to check out the runout on a crank 3 weeks ago. We sold a brand new Gasgas MC65 and it was vibrating bad. KTM asked me to check runout but I had to send it back to them. The end of the crankshaft ended up being milled with too much clearance between the bearing. I've heard other 65s around the US have been vibrating lately as well
Bikes now pwc?! This guy can’t be stopped 🤙🏼
I would certainly prefer bikes…

Excellent video. I inherited a 2000 GTX/RFI that I’ve brought back to life . I want to redo the oil system and your video will help a lot. You scared me about the oil type though. I’m running Lucas synthetic blend two-stroke oil. It has survived 6 outings with a teenager but I’ll change out the oil when I can. Good luck with the ski
Sea-Doo is very specific with their oil requirements. A lot of people don’t follow them because they simply don’t know. Main reason for engine failures on jet skis. TCW3 is generally a no-no.
Glade to see you, you've been missed. I've got 3 Yamaha's kicking my butt at the moment I feel your pain. Except your challenges looks to be far greater. Good luck. look forward to the conclusion. Hope you got a chance to relax the the episode deadlines 😁, Ken
Thanks Ken, glad to be back.
I was starting to worry you might not be posting anymore. Hopefully the projects start coming in. I always enjoy the content and your knowledge of all things with an engine/motor. Keep it up

About to replace piston rings and valves on a 2002 yz250 was told that was all that was wrong with it you got any pointers on what else may need to be replaced as well
It’s more than just throwing a set of piston rings in, that’s what everybody says in their ad. If it was that easy, they would just do it. The piston and the cylinder would need to be measured and replaced if necessary. If you are replacing with Steel valves, the springs will need to be replaced as well along with new seals. Full inspection of the bottom end to be sure there is no wear should also be done.
@@restoroosterohv yea I’m changing the springs and seals as well wasn’t trying to take apart the bottom end but I appreciate it man
@Bigbrandywine365 do it once, do it right.
Question let’s just say hypothetically speaking, u do run the bike w/the old cam that’s slights off by literally a smidgen but the bike still runs if u finesse the timing! What’s the worst it can do to the cylinder head & valve train?! 🤔
I’m not sure if you are referring to a spun cam gear or just being off a tooth. If it’s off just a little bit it’s going to be more of a performance issue generally won’t cause any damage to the piston or the valves. If you find that you cannot line the timing marks up, look for a stretched timing chain, and that will be crucial to replace.
@@restoroosterohv my apologies I was referring to the spun gear on the cam…
@TopOfThaMotorMs I certainly would not ignore that because it could slip further in which case you would have piston to valve contact and potentially destroy your cylinder head
@@restoroosterohv & that’s wat I thought i just needed a 2nd opinion sumbodies I actually trust… Thanx & appreciate it my guy! 💯🫡
@TopOfThaMotorMs you’re welcome. Good luck with your build.
I have a tiny dribble of coolant leaking between the clutch cover and inner plate. When the engine is hot. Is it time for a rebuild?
Yes, the seal is going out
@restoroosterohv one of those shaft seals with the indent on one side and the flat part facing in?
Oh I think I understand. It's probably just the small o ring on the inner plate, if it's only leaking coolant.
@@SlabbinNCabbin Do a complete rebuild kit with all of the gaskets, bearings and seals to avoid having to pull it all back apart again.
Man you a straight up wizard
More like lucky…haha. Thank you though.

Thank you for your input.
Hey resto I know this is kinda an old video but I have a question for u is there any way to get ahold of u
You can email me at restoroosterohv@gmail.com
Rooster I need some advice I’m working on a 07 rmz450 and I broke the cam chain guide seat in the crank case it’s a super clean break and and all it does is seat the chain guide on the stator side as I’m sure you know. My question is do you think it’s a good idea to jb weld it or should I just get a left side case half. Thanks I’m advance
Ouch… anything other than replacing the case half is risky (if it throws a chain, good chance of major top end damage). Case halves are matched so technically you would need a case set to be repaired properly. Now with the disclaimer out of the way, JB weld is pretty strong if done correctly but I would recommend taking the bike/engine to someone who can tig weld the original piece on or build up weld in that spot and regrind it to shape. Good luck however you decide to go.
@@restoroosterohv thanks a lot man yea I think I’ll see if I can get a tig weld somewhere because the holder broke so clean when I hold it In place you can’t even see the crack it tell it’s broke but yea man I appreciate it

I enjoy the ski content also. You have me wanting one now.
A lot of fun when you have others to ride with. Thank you for watching.
@restoroosterohv I learn a lot watching your channel. No matter what your working on. 🤘
I was planning on buying a used 2009 KXF 250. After watching your video, both sound almost the same. The ticking noise was giving me a warning that something is not good in the engine, but after watching the video, I think the engine is fine. I have posted a video of the bike, so if you could go and check it out and tell me if you hear any sound that should not be there, that would be awesome. Thanks in advance if you do check it out.
Always a good idea to replace the cam chain and tensioner on a bike you don’t know the history of. Cheap insurance.
@@restoroosterohv ye the bike is like 1700 USD so I was planning if I buy it just take it to someone that knows more and change what needs to be changed. Its like if I buy a bike that is 2400 USD I maybe get the same bike with same issues and pay more for it. So I would rather buy it for 1700 USD put 700 USD back into it and have a perfect running bike. Did you watch the video btw? You don't have!!! But if you did what you think about the engine? does it sound fine or does it sound junk?

Hello sir, I have a 2013 Yamaha yz250f....while the piston size is 76.98..akaha there are still sizes above.
Yes, you can get larger or “big bore” kits for them. 77mm is standard
Is there a piston kit size larger than the standard 77.mm, sir? Maybe a 78.mm piston.
80mm would be the next size. The kit would include the oversized piston, rings and cylinder.
