HiPM Pe-2 Peshka Review - Worst Model Kit Ever?

In this model kit review video, I'm looking at my build of Historic Plastic Model's Petlyakov Pe-2 Peshka (Pawn). I will be giving some Pe-2 history, what comes with the kit, construction log, paint colors and techniques used, and my conclusions. Is the HiPM Pe-2 the worst plastic model kit ever offered to modelers? How many of these have you seen built at shows?

Great clear, concise but detailed commentary. Would like to have seen some in process photos. You must be a good modeler to get this result

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I wish I had some in-process pictures, but I built the Pe-2 prior to having this RUclips channel. I'm working on a triple Thunderbolt (Hasegawa, MiniArt, Academy) build currently with lots of in-process photos if you haven't already seen that. Cheers!

Thanks for the info, I almost bought this from one expo last weekend. I passed it, goes I don't like to buy anything if I don't know what it is. I was now looking for info on the kit and it seems that this was a good pass. I think that I'm going to just wait that Zvezda will do an early version of the Pe-2. I have the Eduards boxing of the Zvezda kit of that late model, but would like to have the finnish version too.
Your built is excellent despite the kit being very difficult.

Thank you! As much as I like the finished kit, I will not be building another HiPM version. The Pe-2 is a beautiful aircraft, though, and I would like to try the Zvezda kit.

The Zvezda 1/48 PE-2 is a beautiful kit. I have not finished yet but so far there are 0 fit issues. It is almost like a Tamiya kit and others have said so. I watched some videos of the PE-2 all in Russian and they pronounce Petlyakov, Pete-lee-ah-cove and sometimes it sounded like pete-lee-ah-cova

That's good to know, thanks! The 1/48 Zvezda does look nice, and I'd love to pick one up. Last I looked, they only made the turret-armed late model Pe-2. Do you know if that's still the case?

​@@jonsmodelkitreview4624 Checked scalemates, they still only have the turreted pe-2 for sale haven't released any new ones yet, They did rerelease but they only changed the box art, and the decals

i built the Zvezda 1/72 scale kit. Similar fit issues.

Good to know, James. I'll avoid that kit. I've heard better things about the Zvezda 1/48 kit.

Zvezda 1/48 Pe-2 is a fantasitc, well detailed kit.

That's what I've heard, Andy. If Zvezda made an early version Pe-2 when I bought this kit, I would have gone that route.🙂

Absolutely one of the worst 1/48 aircraft kit I bought ever. I bought it through ebay in 2011😅.
The other HiPM stuffs I owned was MiG19, terrible 😢!

Yep, it's the worst kit I've ever built. But, I'm really happy with the end result. Only those who've tried to build it know how bad it really is. 🤪 Cheers!
