    I bought the Tamiya set that includes the FW190D9 a Citroen 11CV car, an officer and a pilot. Will be one of my firsts in 1/48 scale because I usually do 1/72. Having seen all the faults this kit has do you think that if I also get the Hobby Boss kit I could kit bash it to solve most of the flaws? Don't know if I could fit the engine part in the Tamiya and cut out the interior of the wheel wells to have that sorted out. The landing gear and tyres might correct the height problem and another thing I read somewhere IIRC is that the prop spinner in the Tamiya kit is too small or narrow. I would also love to see if I can use some of the Hobby Boss PE on the Tamiya kit. Then I would only need to get some good (better than Tamiya) decals and aftermarket seatbelts. Any thoughts? Great videos btw.

    Fantastic video!!! I found a small town walmart that had several bottles of Future (12). I actually bought all of them. I build mostly car models. Also race Mini Z RC cars that have styrene bodies. Future is Fantastic on the little RC cars. The paint ( i buy bodies in white an paint myself with Acrylics) really lasts, and looks great with the Future applied. On models ive found its great for clear plastic! It takes away the toy like finish and the windows or canopy looks like real glass!! Keep yp the great videos. Looking forward to more projects.

    What I look for.?.Mainly coming back to the hobby,I really enjoy going through a new tooled kits..Also building new tooled or recent releases fit well 90% of the time and I can remember in the 1980’s,fit was hit and miss..But there are some classic kits I like..In my youth I couldn’t get a monogram 1/48 B-17..So now I got the Revell/Monogram 1/48 B-17,,at last.!.Yes it’s raised panel lines,no rivets and some detail needs a boost,,but I love it..The kit still has very strong points like its shape and some details..So I plan rescribing, rivets and a few additions but not much..Not saying I wouldn’t get the HK 1/48 B-17 in the future..But I’m so happy with my old Revell/Monogram B-17 Great video asking fair questions about choice in the hobby..Thank you and all the best from Blighty🇬🇧🇺🇸👍

    I'm building the Hasegawa P-47D and looked up your video. Mine is kit 09564 the Armee de L'Air version. Re the F7 piece at the front of the cowling. Mine wouldn't fit to the engine as the instructions seemed to suggest- but I fitted it into the front of the cowling, and everything else went together snugly, but it fitted ok without chopping anything. I didn't see that tab you point to with your pen, so perhaps they've modified something? The front of your engine has detail that isn't on my kit too.

      I think you're correct, Simon, about Hasegawa modifying the part for better fit. This is not a typical Hasegawa error and I'm glad you didn't have the same problem. As for the engine front, because I'm modeling the M version that came with a different engine, I used a different crank case from a Hasegawa F4U7 corsair instead of the kit piece. Cheers!

    I have built several Tamiya kits, ships, and airplanes, but this Beaufighter has to be the worse kit I have built from them. No kidding! I built the old Revell 1/32 scale Beaufighter a few years back, and it actually had less fitting issues then the 1/48 scale Tamiya. 99.99 percent of Tamiya kits I have built have been really a nice experience to put together, and display. Jon, this is one of my favorite finish out in your series, the camo is so well defined - did you use a base coat? Interesting how you caught the design discrepancies, that's hard to do on British aircraft as it seems they were cranking out variants and modifications on a regular basis.. Model kits of the Beaufighter seem to be making a comback for some odd reason. Will be interesting to see what's next on the build list. Cheers Bob.

    I almost never comment on anything on RUclips but I thought it would be worth saying this is the best overall channel for model kit reviews I have found in terms of consistently good, useful material that is easy to digest. An in-box 'review' where the kit isn't at least in the process of construction is often just advertising. You need to be in the build to see the faults most of the time. In terms of the most important thing for me, there's something I find is often overlooked: well-defined contact surfaces for parts. I began scale modelling with Gundam kits produced by Bandai and the engineering is phenomenal, and parts very positively fit together. When I build model airplanes, armour or cars, the thing I am often most unhappy with isn't small parts or minor inaccuracies (I'm not well versed enough in the subjects to recognize these usually): it's having parts that lack a good surface to merge them when needed, or well-placed male/female connectors. Nothing makes a kit less pleasant than trying to figure out where a small part needs to link between two pieces because there's no positive contact surface where it clearly fits, then trying to glue it at both ends and praying the connection holds up. I just finished a MiG-21 in 1/72 by Eduard and the kit looks great, but the landing gear doors and weapon pylons have such tiny, weak contact points I'm scared to even look at it for fear it will spontaneously fall apart. By contrast, I think this is part of what makes many early 90s Tamiya 1/48 aircraft so pleasurable to build: very clear, strong contact points (in my experience at least). I don't expect snap-fit without glue, but I want parts that clearly are supposed to work together. Thanks for your excellent channel.

      @GHoooSTS Thank you! I really appreciate the thoughtful feedback. I can relate to your frustration with kits that have nebulous parts fit and unclear parts location. Great video Jon! I find it amazing how when one starts a kit, how much you learn about that subject, and then realize no matter how good the kit is, the inaccuracies then jump out when your building or finishing the model. Always thought the Bristol was a bit ordinary in appearance with a very early war or even 30’s look to it, but as you’ve shown, after building, one begins to appreciate the design. Hi Jon. Nice video. About the Tamiya kit of the Beau in 1/48 scale, IIRC it was referenced by the Tamiya people from the Mk 21 in exhibition in the Moorabbin Air Force Museum in Melbourne (VIC), Australia. As a consequence, the kit shows different panel lines on the upper wings (LH vs RH). This is correct for the Mk 21 version and incorrect for the other ones. The Revell offering in the same scale shows correct panel lines on both the upper wings for the versions but the Mk 21. 😊

    One of the biggest issues i see with this kit is the gun bay doors. Most modelers, yourself included, don't model the doors as a single piece. If they did there wouldn't be a seam line through the center of it. The visible engine from beneath is another but unnoticeable if on a shelf.

    • @jonsmodelkitreview4624
      @jonsmodelkitreview4624 15 дней назад

      Are you're talking about the gun cover directly in front of the cockpit? There are two seams on top of this one-piece cover in real life (I just verified this in pictures of the real aircraft). The seams are also featured on every Fw190/Ta152 kit in my stash (Eduard, Tamiya, Dragon, Hobby Boss). The seams on the real aircraft are the result of different sections of aluminum used to cover the internal framework of the single piece gun cover. Cheers!

    Hi Jon. Excellent!!! Looking forward to seeing the build. It was certainly a game changer for motorcycle manufacturing. Build quality and reliability with affordability set new levels for the industry. Owned a Kawka Z250, Z650 and GT750 (shaft drive...nice!) in 80's/90's. No chromed donk's though! (Australian donk = engine). Just recently watched a FSM vid on how to remove chrome plating (more dangerous chemicals!☠😁) I have the 1/9 Italeri Zundapp and Triumph (watching out for their WLA) in the pile. Amazing for '70's kits. Borrowed a CB200 one night, long ago. It was so cold (for an Aussie) that I had some much cold weather gear on that that I lost an exhaust silencer and didn't notice! Also ended up in someone's letterbox/front garden on another occasion. Youth!!! Cheers Matt🦘🦘🦘

      Right on, Matt! Thanks for sharing the memories. I got a CB200 running for my little brother as his first bike. One night, on a very steep downhill section of a very narrow, very bumpy back road, he decided to pass his friends who were driving a Diesel VW Rabbit. Those in the car were surprised to see my brother lying on the CB200 seat Superman-style right next to the drivers window! The CB200 was wrung out, and just managed to slowly pass the VW. It's a miracle any of us survived our youth!😂

    Hey Jon, no wings or cockpit on this kit :-) The chrome reminds me of those fully chromed Hawk kits from the 50s and 60s . They were trying to duplicate the metal finish - I remember building: the T-33 This would certainly make a nice change from aircraft. Maybe use a wash on the chrome to highlight it more. Thanks for sharing something totally different. Cheers Bob..

      Thanks, Bob! I've seen the Hawk aircraft kits, and appreciate the idea for less experienced modelers. I just don't like that the chrome prevents the glue from working - kind of a pain for those newer modelers. I am wondering if a flat black wash will tone down the chrome enough to look like the silver engine paint used on the bike itself. Cheers!

    To Everyone, Jon's Model Kit Review has bought back some vintage kits that for some reason have memories of some sort for a bunch of us. We've built the kit, seen it at a friends house or seen it on the shelf when it was first released... ohhhhhhh I gotta have one of those!! And now that we are older, we now can get those kits we couldn't get as a child. And do the build we envisioned as budding modelers. And now there several kit makers that are re-releasing these old kits, some from original molds. And I thank them for that with my purchases! I now own The Munsters Coach, The Dragula, Allison Turbo-prop, Tom Daniel's classic Rommel's Rod and last, the old Monogram 1/48 bf-109 in the vintage box art, which Jon has done a review on. So build it or collect it on the shelf. These vintage kit reviews seem to have motivated a bunch of us! Jon, please keep those reviews coming. MORE PLANES PLEASE! Just a note, I really like 1/48, just saying! Thanks ta all. The bunch of us seem to be birds of a feather. MODEL ON!

    Hello Jon, the topic with a motorcycle is very interesting, it is good to vary since you find new motivations in other types of kits. As for the kit, it seems very good to me as it comes, I look forward to seeing it assembled, even more so with the corrections and your skills in assembly and painting. You also have the original hahahaha, greetings friend, until the next video.

    Hi Jon. I like that: You build/review kits that I don't see here. Just generally interesting. (I would love the Peashooter but not at 100AUD/70USD. Hopefully re-released at some point). With unbuilt/partially built kits we get to see basic major fitment of the wings and fuselage. Even with just tape etc holding together a kit a general build quality can be assessed better than just looking at the parts. And you do - "this was like this, so I did this to fix it - looks good" - problem solved! Choices for all incomes. The latest and greatest often, (not always) costs the most. Paints, tools etc can cost as much as you see fit. It's nice to see alternatives that won't break the bank. And I am surprised at how good some of the older kits are. I've purchased a few kits after seeing your builds of them. You encourage being happy with your work and to enjoy the hobby. Nice. And sometimes I'll then go off and look up the build aircraft and the related history/science/tech behind it and peoples personal stories associated with it. Bonus. I have a some vehicle kits in 1/48 that are aircraft orientated (like Italeri's Kfz. 385 Tankwagen, Tamiya's U.S. 2.5 ton 6x6 Airfield Fuel Truck etc.). I would be cool to see you build something like that to set up next to a completed aircraft kit. (I thought the Tamiya Pz II was neat build/kit). Just my brain doing things - your channel of course. Great work and MODEL ON! Cheers Matt 🦘🦘🦘 PS I just bought -Aeronautica Macchi Fighters C200-C202-C205, Luigino Caliaro, 2024 Classic/Crecy Publishing........Wow! Just amazing. 280 pages of everything! Highly recommended.

    I built this model with the "Detroit Miss" marking many many moons ago. I remember the removable lower cowling being a very poor fit with major sink marks. Other than that it's a fun build, and a cheep but effective way to have a good looking Mustang. Love your nostalgic subjects, Jon. Keep it up!
