    So sorry to hear of your daughter's phobia and angst. When we are young children we can interpret what, appear to be something normal, as something to fear. I had many anxieties as a child. Thank goodness you were an alert parent and took your daughter for help. This is why I never thought children should be taken to movies with adult themes. This fabric book is really charming and looks like a fun project. Blessings to all!

    Brilliant! I am just getting ready to start my own. Who knows how long it will take me but you helped me make my decision when you talked about the benefits of working in a book that was already sewn together! This was something that was bothering me. I love what you said about it feeling like it was coming together rather than patches that may never make it into a book! ❤️❤️❤️

    Love it! When she was making her roll I made a pillow instead because I was so focused on using some of my grammas doilies. And as shes started the book I am on another project but as I watch you it has occured to me, to figure out how to incorporate what I love to do with some dinosaurs and make it for my grandson, for it to be full of yoyos and buttons and knots and textures but also his dinosaurs. I want it to be a book that he just loves to run his little fingers over. I could put a couple of pockets in it...oh now I'm getting excited...I was working on a pillow and I'm stuck...I put on all of the tufts of grass and a tree but stuck on what fabric to use for the dinosaur so I think I will just scrap that and start on a book...thankyou so much for the inspiration!

      This would be a great way to make a soft book for a child. It's funny you mention dinosaurs, my 20 year old daughter wants me to make her a dinosaur themed junk journal.🦖

    You are so me!! I went and got 6 wooden bobbins when it stared too. I had no self control. My spool is done, working on by book. I love your book so far. I so enjoyed watching you open your RAK! I sent you a email about a new book that I got yesterday called Threads of Life a history of the world through the eye of a needle by Clare Hunter it’s very cool. 😀

    So glad you’re working on this project! I started mine and lost my mojo after a couple of pages. You’ve inspired me to pick it up again and have another go.
    Please be careful with going out! I’m in Melbourne, Australia; and although we only have dozens of new cases daily we are still in full lockdown. My 3 kids have been homeschooling since March and probably won’t be returning to school until late October, but time will tell. This disease spreads incredibly fast, it’s scary.
    GIVEAWAYS - How about asking international participants to pay for shipping? I know I’d be happy to do that. Just a thought...

    This is looking gorgeous and I'm sure it's even prettier in person. The woven pages are my favorite. I love the idea of using a fabric throughout, as the blue linen, to tie it all together. I enjoyed having a look into your collections boxes and admit I paused the video to better see it all. lol I scored a jar of antique buttons at a thrift store yesterday and took me 30 minutes to look through it when I got home, such fun. TFS, blessings to you and yours.

    Found your channel by chance. Are you Aquarius? I feel the same as you about writing in a journal. I wish i could put my thoughts on paper. I love all kinds of crafts also. My mom was my mentor and taught me to sew and needle work early. She passed in February and I shipped 4 good sized boxes of vintage material and patterns and crafts. Im also in Texas.

    I bought some large wooden spools in Fredericksburg a few yrs ago. I could wrap them rather than display them bare on my bookshelf. Ok this will sound odd I guess, but I've honestly been thinking about using batting for a book, but the point is I've never seen that before. All this is new to me. The book thing I mean. I've stitched since my great grandmother taught me to embroidery. I love this!! I should have known that my idea wasn't original Lol!! I love antique buttons. I have some of my great grandmother's buttons & notions. This would give them life to put in a book with stitching & put out as a coffee table book where I can enjoy it. Thank you for sharing this:)

    • @MelanieSullivan
      @MelanieSullivan  4 года назад +1

      I haven't been down to Fredericksburg in a number of years, but I always find treasures when I go. I love it there. A book of family heirlooms or a button collection would be marvelous. I will say, I don't enjoy doing any traditional embroidery (Flowers, chain stitches, etc.) through the batting, because 1.) it's hard on my hands and wrists, and 2.) the batting pulls through the stitching holes. It's fine for random stitches and running stitches, but I think I would rather use a wool batting or wool felt. Good luck with your book. It sounds like a great project!

    Thank you for turning on the camera and sharing. You are an inspiration, and I am always interested in what interests you. I have been watching slow stitching videos whenever I can, and I have watched the sew4the soul challenges. I like the assemblage aspect in slow stitching, and how design grows organically and intuitively. I find myself using the same theme, flowers and vines, so having prompts is a good idea. I've been working in book form too, but my.intention was to make a fabric book of pockets to hold journaling spots and collection of old family momentos. I haven't embroidered since the 80s, so I was nervous at first, but it's slowly less frightful to just go where the stitching takes me. Not be fussy about imperfect stiches. In fact, I found joy drawing simple images in stitches.. A small simple stick house seemed to add another dimension. Stitching simple pics add an unsophisticated retro feel.. Also stitching words in script. So many possibilities with this type of freeform, including adding unrecognizable fabric doo hickies (?) and made up stitches.

    • @MelanieSullivan
      @MelanieSullivan  4 года назад

      I'm really enjoying taking a relaxed approach to stitching. There's so much you can do once you step outside the traditional cross-stitch, crewel, needlepoint, and embroidery parameters and let yourself explore - it's very freeing! Keep stitching!

    Oh you are hilarious! Who said you have to follow rules for giveaways? My take on anything is do as you please. Make your own rules. It is not supposed to be a “follow the rules” or nothing. You can certainly start a new trend, cause I am sure he “giveaway police” is not gonna knock on your door and tell you you can’t have giveaways as you like.
    Speaking of not knowing what to say when you are filming. I am also going speechless when my right brain is at work. It’s normal. I am always surprised when people who make art can actually talk as they make it.
    This book of stitches is awesome. I love that green page spread.

    • @MelanieSullivan
      @MelanieSullivan  4 года назад

      All it would take is one complaint and RUclips can suspend your account or remove it. I just need to get my rules written, I'll do it shortly.
      When I'm doing a demonstration or teaching, I don't have trouble finding my words, but I guess when I go full right brain to create, my left brain goes to sleep!
      Speaking of green, I have a journal I wanted to show you. Can you send me an email at melanieonyt @ gmail.com? 💚
