I've been wondering for the past 2-3 years when you were going to break out and start your own channel - I have always liked the way you do presentation, not only on fitting but instruction as well. I have watched a lot of club fitters on RUclips, but in my opinion you're the best; I wish I could get close enough to you to have you do my fitting this year - I need a whole bag fitting to start my adventure in joining the Senior Amateur Tour this year. I watch some of your progress working toward your Pro Card Qual. and I really enjoyed watching your progress and it helped me sort through some things myself. Good Fortune to you Thomas in the days and years to come - I'm very excited to you succeed; and, hopefully, see you open your own shop. and remember, "obstacles are what you see when you loose sight of the goal"
Awesome vid, Thomas! Congrats on the new role. My main suggestion is that no one else is doing sim reviews combined with course reviews. TXG used to get out on the course, but even that was very rare. Most all other fitting channels utilize the sim and/or driving range. However, we all know that the sim and range doesn't always translate to the course because of nerves or other outside factors. Would be great to see clubs in action and how they perform during a round. Or just playing a few holes with WITB at the moment, or get out with a client/student to see how they hit it on course. Obviously, weather permitting in Minnesota. Keep it up
Love the suggestion. I love the outside content too as we have to remember the game is played outside. In Minnesota we are limited to April-October so hang in there and stay with us! - Thomas
Great video Thomas. I always enjoyed your videos with Drew. You guys had great chemistry together. Congratulations on your new position. I am looking forward to your content.
Great to see you doing this. It’s so informative. I’ve instantly subscribed. I fully endorse Yo-Yo Zamola’s comment about catering for moderate swing speeds too. Much as I love watching your swing Thomas, I’d have to 30 years younger to even try it! Keep up the good work.
Hello Thomas, I'm so glad I found your channel, I enjoyed your videos and testing on second swing channel , I watch all your club testings Before I make a decision on what I'm gonna buy. Keep the good content coming !!!!
Thomas great to see you in another venue , Thomas you'd have a 4.8 smash factor with a Hockey stick, lol the most efficient Golfer I've ever seen, incredible your ability to get then out there 30 yards apart, Thanks Thomas I definitely subscribed, looking forward to a Great Year!! Be Safe!!
Ty youtube algo, nice to see u again Thomas. Subbed! Was at a launch monitor session with g430max alta CB and tour chrome 2.0 stiff and tsr2 hzdus 6.0. Was getting better numbers with the g430 at 9deg (mid 2000 spin vs 3000 10.5deg) but tsr2 9deg spun much too low 1600-1800. So diff model head loft I needed was diff. But to be honest neither ping shaft suited me, face contact was low heel to high toe.
I play the extra same driver and have a swing speed of 108 I’m definitely knocking it up to 10 degrees and setting it to draw bias after watching this great video Thanks
Excellent video. As I remember just a couple years back you were hitting the Callaway Epic Max LS and the tour edge Exotics C721 drivers 330+ yards. One went 339. This driver works well but it almost appears the older drivers went further? But anyway it all makes sense and certainly 10° is the magic number for your drives that’s where you got the best results. This is very interesting
Just by watching my ball launch, I’ve noticed I add a lot of dynamic loft to my driver. Usually launches above 110 feet at 9 degrees. Not sure if it was the launch or the spin number but it didn’t carry like I wanted it to. I started by delofting the club. Moved down to 8 degrees. Then went with a low spinning ball. Now it launches about 100 feet. Sometimes less. Ball is carrying about 15 yards further now
It's probably spin. You can launch up to 17 degrees before the launch angle starts losing distance. Most people can't do that without too much spin though.
Thomas, for a senior golfer with club head speed of 70mph. Is it possible to gain more distance with a 15 degree two inches shorter driver. Currently playing a 12 degree driver. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Get fitted and you’ll find out what is best! Buy any driver off the shelf (or any golf club for that matter) and you’ve immediately handicapped yourself.
@@geoffcox9582 Get fitted is the mantra. In theory that sounds good. But you need to be hitting it well and be consistent. We Seniors all know we have our bad days. What happens when you're not at your best on fitting day? Which club to get then? Fwiw, i'm a 9 handicap and have a decent swing with my driver. But i'd hate to pay for a fitting on an off day.
@@melabshier5812 - I got fitted for my new Stealth when hitting it like a bit of a twat. Over the session thought we (as in the fitter and I) knew what would work based off the better shots I was hitting and what trackman was saying. My guy needed 5 balls with my old driver to see what was wrong (high spin on mistrikes, and not great consistency on the better ones) and then the new one was dialling it in over an hour or so. If you can’t hit any decent shots in an hour I suggest you aren’t off 9. You’d also be a mug to pay for a fitting when in one week the big brands will have fitting days near you for free of charge.
Great video … I liked your previous videos too. I feel like you could benefit from a trusty sidekick with a mediocre game (at best) and I’d like to volunteer for that role. I’ll definitely be making a pilgrimage to Swing Lab and hopefully pick up a few strokes in the process! Good luck to you! PS, please consider opening a satellite facility in La Crosse, WI or even Rochester, MN.
I turned my 12* G425 Max to 10.5 and hit it almost as far as any driver setup I have going from 9* to 7.5*. On downwind holes the 12* goes further. Loft up for better control and more fairways.
I'm so glad I found your channel Thomas, That was a great review on Driver loft , Please test the tour edge C723 driver , I wanna see you hit some bombs like you did with the C-721 , I haven't seen you test a club that good since that video , I have a feeling this new C723 is gonna be a bomber !!!
Congratulations on the new channel, Thomas. This is super interesting. I have an Epic Flash lofted up to 11* and the difference is night and day. Too many people have egos which hurt their game. Even Rahm (no1 strokes gained off the tee for 3 yrs) uses 11.3*.
Is adjusting up to a particular loft the same as hitting a driver with the higher loft? For example a 9 degree +1 vs a 10 degree driver? I'm mainly referring to Callaway drivers with adjustable loft and lie.
I understand changing loft makes a difference, but when you change the loft on these modern drivers you're also changing face angle and lie angle, so my question is which is more important, face angle or lie angle to keep it straight or a little draw. Like watching keep up the good work.
@@swinglabperformancegolf not that so could tell. I was actually playing a course with a buddy and on a whim decided to lower the loft down to 9* on a par 5. The data I got off the shot only displayed for a few seconds but the only thing I noticed was the yardage gain.
Good video. Gets a sub from me. I do have a couple of suggestions. First, I'd like to see a little more analysis. Most significantly, why was the spin at 10 a hundred lower than at 9, and three hundred lower than 11? Dynamic loft and spin loft was almost the same between 10 and 11, but there is more than a 10% spin difference. What was going on there? Second, could we have some more close ups of the data? It's hard to read when it's in the background. Third, when you are hitting, dial the music level down a bit, please. It wasn't especially enjoyable music, and it was mixed so that it was the dominant sound. A balance between camera mic noise (i.e., ball strike sound, shaft in motion sound, etc.) would make the video a little more enjoyable. But please understand I'm saying that in the spirit of constructive criticism. I liked the video.
I’ve always changed my loft depending on conditions. Like on super windy days i like a little help keeping that ball flight lower. Also in the dead of summer I like a lower ball flight because it gets hella roll out. I might chose to have a lot higher loft the there are doglegs where you can cut corners over tall trees or drivable par 4s it has a little more help staying on that green if by the grace of god I hit it. Is this bad practice? 😂 I can already hear people saying I should be able to manipulate ball flight without adjusting the club. What ever help I can get, I’ll take
Minnesota is home... for now I would need to convince my wife to move. Great place April-October the rest of the months I need to jump on a flight to see grass. Glad you found my new channel - Thomas
My swing speed is currently around 100mph. What would be the best loft for that SS? Also, congrats on your new gig. You were awesome on 2nd Swing & I know you’ll be even better here since we’ll get more of your knowledge than before. Great video.
A lot is going to depend on your angle of attack. If you hit up on the ball possibly less loft, but to give you a definitive answer I would need to learn more about the spin & your landing angle with the driver. Thanks for watching - Thomas
God I missed Thomas’ swing. Hoping to see some good in depth instructional videos and some technical videos about how lie angle affects swing path and launch direction
This is interesting information but it does not account for the wind on the golf course. We need empirical data that compares trajectory and spin rate in a variety of wind conditions. Also, what happens when the ball hits a soggy fairway or a hard fairway. The roll is perhaps more significant than any other factor! Think about it.
Wondered why I hadn't seen you on the other channel for a while. I tried going from a 9° to an 8° recently and couldn't believe how much harder it was to get the ball in tha air. So promptly switched back. I didn't try going to 10° though so that may be next. But with the fairways hard and fast here at the moment. I might wait till the winter! 😉
