This is the third furniture piece of my dimensional lumber bedroom furniture set and also the second chest of drawers that I have made. With this chest of drawers I used box store 2x10 boards as my starting point and eliminated any knots to get clear quarter sawn straight gran pine throughout the project. Lots of waste but it was worth it.

How many watch Jay's videos as much for the editing as the woodworking? Entertainment and Educational.
Am I the only one envious of the wood working AND video editing?
Nope :)
I finally got the chest of drawers project complete and couldn't be happier with the results. For a lot more information and details check out the build article: jayscustomcreations.com/2015/08/knot-free-pine-chest-of-drawers/
Jay Bates Woot FIRST reply!
Keep em coming! What brand of crayons do you recommend for woodworking. Wink wink!
The commercial was well done... did you have complete creative on that?
Darin Bicknell Big red crayons are the best :) Thank you for the feedback. Yes I had complete creative on that.
Jay Bates Great build. If I were to try to make videos I sure would shoot myself in the foot a lot!
Was it hard to work out the details of the width of drawers or does that fall out from the Sketchup prep work?
Timothy Hall Everything is done in SketchUp first. Super easy that way. Also, when using 1/2" plywood and metal drawer slides the drawer is 1" less than the width of the opening and the front and back panels are 1" less than the width of the drawer.
Jay Bates
I would have much rather saw a deal like this:
Save $175 on a Festool Domino: www.festool.usa.com/jay
Mattress...who needs a freakin' mattress.
wow, not a single pocket hole! :)
Matthias Wandel He's pretty fescool now
Matthias Wandel Of my most recent 28 videos only 5 have pocket holes in them. 3 of the 5 were my miter saw station.
Jay Bates You truly are a monster.
Matthias Wandel $1300 for the Festool Domino and about 50 cents apiece for the Dominos. If you have the money I guess that is the way to go. Unless, he made the Dominos himself which seems to me the way to go. Even then, I doubt that he made the waffled impression that Festool stamps into their Dominos to allow the glue more surface area. I love your videos as well as Jays. I hope that he didn't say anything that he didn't believe in in his endorsement. Though he didn't say anything except what it was made of and how to order one. You could do that.
Hermoso trabajo.
I must say your editing skills are improving each video! It's fun to watch even if you don't like woodworking.
As for the product itself it turned out really well! I especially like the theme/finish of it and the matching furniture.
"Get to the Chopper", and the disappearing digital overlay print instructions, are some cool editing effects.
Great Job Jay, love the way it turned out. My wife saw me watching the video and she now wants one for each kid. So I now have 3 sets of drawers to get started on. Great Build.
Classic style is back! Awesome project, and great use of floating tenons to build it quick.
A great design, well thought out and constructed. Look forward to many more videos of such quality.👍
You always explain things so nicely. Your editing is great ,no repetition or unnecessary information. AND you are ninja fast with a hammer ! Thanks for the inspiration and motivation.
+twoweary Very kind words. Thank you for watching.
+Jay Bates I second that!!!!
A perfectly good mattress and no wig, no nightgown, and no lipstick. I want my money back! Seriously though, nice job on the chest of drawers man. That Domino is such a massive time-saver isn't it? Mario Bros. sound effects FTW!
The Wood Whisperer hahahaha, no way I've got the cojones to pull off your platform bed intro! The domino has definitely been a game changer so far. And thanks, dude. Much appreciated.
I really like how you show a graphic of what the part is for, during the explanations, it's really great for those of us new to woodworking. We tend to get lost trying to imagine what the piece is for, till the final assembly, thank you for that!
That one will be around for a few years to come - solid! Awesome build and video :)
Awesome Jay.
John Heisz Thanks dude. Much appreciated.
Great job Jay. It's like they say, "the masters make it look so easy". Truly a master.
Great project, Jay. Have to love that southern pine - up here in northern British Columbia the growth rings on most of our pine can be so tightly packed you need a magnifying glass to count them! In 40 years you get a tree down there that takes 150 years to grow up here!
BTW I think that if your house ever gets hit by a freak storm, your bedroom furniture is meaty enough to protect your whole family!
Cheers!
One of your finer projects! I was glad to see pine being used. I could almost smell it through my monitor!
I truly enjoy your videos and so many skills. Its nice to see a young man have the passion for working with his hands and sharing his talents. We learn so much. God bless you.
Great build Jay. You do all of this great design work with Sketch Up, cut all of the components, put it all together and edit the video. And yet you still find time to beat me in chess. Amazing.
Very nice, Jay! Looks beautiful. Also..."GET TO THE CHOPPER!"
I know this is an old video, but I had to say this..... beautiful! I love simple but elegant furniture like this.
Thank you!
Who would have thought dimensional lumber could look so good. Video also outstanding.
Love the additional editing treatment you gave this video. Best one yet!
Your dresser turned out great and your video was super amusing. I love all your sound effects. I now feel the need to go find a vintage pinball machine to play with!
Sandra Powell aka {Sawdust Girl} Thanks Sandra! Much appreciated.
Jay you are the only woodworker that has got me to burst out laughing while watching vids! Epic Arnold salute! And as always epic edit!
This beautiful craftsmanship shows how pine wood can look great when you put some thought in grain appearance (direction). Congratulations on this piece of fine furniture 😊
The transition of building style is both amazing and awesome!
Rexus King Thank you Rexus
Wow, Hello Jay... I'm new to your channel and i'm really really excited. Thanks for sharing, Great project..!!
Man you are amazing! Love your videos and super happy I found your RUclips Channel. Thank you for taking all the time to produce them!
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Your video editing skills just keep getting better and better. I don't mind sponsor ads if it means more content.
Beautiful dresser....I think my favorite project of yours to date...and that's saying a lot!
John Hamilton Thanks John.
Awesome job, Jay, and I'd like to say that your video editing techniques really set you apart from all the channels I've visited. Thanks for your hard work and keep up the good job!
holy cow, amazing diligence and work ethic.
Jay, I don't know if you still read comments on old videos, but wanted to tell you I've built four of these now, after buying your plans. I modified it a little, with raised panel sides, and dovetailed drawers with false fronts. Every time I deliver one, I'm asked to build another. People love it.
Glad to hear that, Eric. 😊
Really dig the way you got the very best out if that lumber. Beautiful
This is really cool. Wish I had all the tools and skills to build my own furniture. Great video.
Absolutely amazing! I enjoyed watching the way you make your videos as much as I enjoy watching what you're making.
Thanks, Steve Parkinson
Amazing video. I especially liked how you superimposed the sketchup drawing as you named the stiles, rails, etc.
I've watched 99% of your stuff, and I'd say this is one of your best builds to date.
***** Thank you.
Man, you found some beautiful boards in that pile. This chest looks rock solid gorgeous.
Drunkenwood How-to Videos Thanks David!
Great video. I love watching for the easter eggs.
Killer job! Thanks for sharing your time and skills.
I've never seen a drawer made with loose tenon joints. I like it !!
Awesome build Jay! I like how you find the best qualities in construction lumber. Congrats on the sponsorship too!
Phenomenal video. I have to believe the taping and editing can be time consuming and tedious but it is very much appreciated and such a pleasure to view. Keep up the great work!!
Great video production, one of the best if not the best in you tube. Congratulatios.
Love the project, I really enjoy the way you are doing your videos now. Great editing.
Great Job! your well organized shop makes a job like that easier and enjoyable
Fantastic Jay! My favorite piece that you've built. Liked the attention to the grain, and finishing with wax. Just beautiful. And it was nice to see you using the domino, my best friend in the shop.
Thanks, Guy. I appreciate it. It's becoming a good friend of mine too :)
Nice work man! I appreciate that you put this out for my wood working entertainment!
You are a magician sir. Big thumbs up.
Great project Jay. And as always, I enjoyed the little extra touches in editing.
Beautiful craftsmanship & mad editing skills!
I think you’re the only one who consistently uses the slide miter properly. I know it’s weird but seriously satisfying to watch.
Jay, your skills at building and video quality are improving rapidly. Very nice project.
I enjoyed so much this video! Really cool small details - sound, words effects and general editing. And the project itself came out really good too! Cheers :)
You’re video editing skills are as amazing as your woodworking skills! Keep it up!
Really nice build + video, Jay.
Marius Hornberger Thanks Marius. I very much appreciate it. Glad to have this one behind me. Both the video and project took up a huge chunk of time.
Jay Bates Totally worth it!
As usual, excellent work. And the best video editing on the Interwebs!
Excellent editing and show of how to use dimensional lumber, and how you go about making it more appropriately sized for finish work using tools that most of us have or at least can get without much expense.... minus the fescool
If there was an award for youtube video editing you would definitely be nominated if not win!
The video production of this is wonderful. It's a delight to watch it! Also, that's one sturdy piece of furniture. :)
Most indestructible chest of drawers ever. :) Good stuff, Jay!
Very nice build! It's really cool to see your editing, graphics work and overall video style develop and just get better and better. One last thing; the "Get to the choppa!" bit was great!
Super awesome project! I love how it turned out.
great project and the video editing makes it s real delight to watch.
Your videos are getting cooler and cooler! I might pick up the plans for this one myself!
Love your video style and the plan is fantastic. Showed my 10 year old son the "choppa" part, he said "that guy is cool."
Jason Brundage Nice!!! :)
The piece came out great!
Darbin Orvar Thanks!
Love the results and the video. Having built many pieces out of yellow pine framing lumber I suggest it is good to sort through the pile and buy the best and then let if dry a while. Its sold dry enough for framing a house but not for furniture. And you are correct, buy huge pieces and cut them down. Comes out of larger better trees and you get more usable wood. Throw the part near the pith away. I am building chest now and just got a Domino. thanks for the video.
Awesome build Jay, I think you're the master at dimensional lumber builds.
Also, get to the chopper!
Nice job working around all those knots!
Great build. Great editing. Keep em' coming.
SUPER nice build. Thanks for sharing.
Quality Craftsmanship at its finest! awesome work bud
I love your editing. Nice build.
Really nice job, Jay. Looks great!
It looks so good you did a great job.
Great work, Jay. Love the design.
Dallas Taras Thank you.
Awesome stuff! Its looking great. At 1:01 my wife says "Hope he got his fire extinguisher yearly maintenance done."
Keep up the awesome work!
Would not have thought to us lumber w/pith to get good quartersawn pieces. Great idea. It increases waste a bit, but gives a lot of straight grain wood to work with. Thanks for the tip. Chest of drawers looks really good.
Very nice! I like the look. goes well with the rest of the bedroom.
Gracias Jay. Realmente tienes muy buenas ideas para trabajar, las voy a usar en mi taller.
Wow wow wow wow!! Gorgeous piece of furniture!!! The dad in me wants you to route those edges, especially with teddy bears near by. But, the artist in me says “nah” :) minimalist styling/lines + grain choice + that wax= Whoah awesome!!
The production value of your channel is top notch. Keep it up
Another great project and an amazing video. Thanks for sharing...
Well done - that bedroom came together nicely -
Nick Ferry thanks dude. Still have more to make for it :)
Jay Bates perhaps a nightlight for when I stay over - the dark scares me
Nick Ferry No worries. That corner of the house isn't haunted.
Jay Bates only good ghosts? you promise?
Get to the choppa.....you're my hero Jay Bates!
nice job on all the furniture in the room. Love your work
Fred Watson Thank you.
That's a great looking chest of drawers.
Very Nice Jay! One of your best pieces!! 😉
